Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- Went shooting with some new friends. Signed up for the Texas Firearms Festival that is going on next week. I also registered for a training course in two weeks. I joined Dan and Cheryl Todd on their program Gun Freedom Radio out of Phoenix, Arizona.

John – I booked my room and flight to Las Vegas for the 2016 SHOT Show. I got some great advice on places to stay from Gary. Even with an upgraded room, I came in hundreds less than if I stayed on the LV Strip. I figure that could pay for a lot of taxi rides or even a visit to the Machine Gun Experience in LV. Now to start looking for a place to stay at the . For those looking for a place to stay, fellow blogger Tom at Daddy Bear’s Den on where to stay in Louisville – and where not to stay.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

Paul/Susan – Working a lot. Registration is now open for the MAG 40 and we are off to a good start.

Promo about upcoming training classes here.

2- News 1

2-1 Thug’s family complains with the help of the Washington Post

After a long criminal record, Reginald Gildersleeve was just turning his life around.. again. Last week we covered the defensive gun use where Gildersleeve wore a mask, walked into a small grocery store in Chicago, pulled a gun, and announced a robbery. A concealed carry holder in the market fired several shots at Gildersleeve. Now the criminal’s family says he didn’t deserve to die.. and why did he have to be shot more than once. Their comments are The family says someone has to pay now that their brother’s been shot.

For the foggy journalists near foggy bottom, here are the rules. If you dress like a thief with a mask over your face, act like a thief, and sound like a thief, then you will be treated like a thief. If you look like you’re putting people’s lives in immediate danger with a weapon, then you can be shot and killed.. even if your family thinks you’re about to turn your life around.. again.

To be precise, the criminal was not shot too many times. He was shot until he was no longer a threat. Those are the same criteria used in either a civilian shooting or a police shooting. Those are the real rules used in the real world. Too bad the Washington Post is in its own little world.

CF – Mas Ayoob teaches that the most unloved, despised, waste-of-skin converted to room temperature in a righteous situation will have family members that haven’t wanted to see him in decades him rushing to court claiming harm and wanting justice. The type of justice that can only be had by folding money. BTW: The CCW carrier will not be charged in the shooting. A good shoot – even in Chicagoland.

John – When you work in a building with security guards…

2-2 Ha-Ooooo, a sub-gun in London

Anti-rights gun grabbing politicians here in the US say we should adopt European models of gun regulation to make America safer. Really? Semi-automatic rifles and shotguns were banned in 1988. England outlawed handguns in 1996. That means an automatic loading gun firing a pistol caliber cartridge has been outlawed in England for at least the last 80 years. Yet three police officers in London were

Gary- You mean criminals don’t obey gun laws?

Paul- No, Gary.(snicker) Thugs don’t obey gun laws any more than they obey the laws against robbery and assault. (chuckle)

Gary- Someone had better let our chicago politicians know that gun control doesn’t work.. even in England.

John- The weapon could have been a glock 18, and that model pistol has been around for 30 years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the British Bobbies who have to work on the crazy streets, and for the crazy politicians, of London, England.

Gary- I bet the British haven’t tried gun buy backs like Chicago.

Gary- That is called sarcasm, you guys.

2-3 Guns, Guns for sale.. from your local cop shop

It is hard to take the idea of gun control very seriously. The anti-self-defense gun grabbers claim we could disarm honest gun owners and then criminals wouldn’t have any guns. That might make sense if you only spent a second reading the headlines, but it is a failed idea if you read the next story. Shotguns and handguns issued to police have in an audit of the rural town of Memphis, Michigan. The small police department has had four chiefs in five years.

Criminals don’t stand in line for a background check. They “borrow” a legal gun from a relative or another gang member. Stolen guns are only 10 to 15 percent of the guns used in crime, but with , it is is foolish to imagine that criminals don’t have access to firearms.

John – I have read about “community” guns hidden in bad neighborhoods.

2-4 Where do thugs get their guns?

We talked about the gangs in Chicago, and how they borrowed their guns from friends and family members. Let’s look a little deeper into that, and ask why The gangs in Oakland use their single-mother girlfriends to buy guns. The reason is simple. Oakland prosecutors don’t want “baby mama drama” in the courtroom, so the women were rarely if ever prosecuted for straw purchases.

The same thing happened in Georgia where a 26 year old woman bought a pistol, spare magazine and ammunition for her felon boyfriend. The boyfriend then murdered a pregnant female police officer. The straw purchaser was sentenced to half a year of 中国体彩官方app confinement and parole. That is why thugs get guns in broken Democrat cities.

The contrast could not be sharper when compared to the Pennsylvania police officer who bought a handgun for his father-in-law using his police discount. The officer then had his father in law go through a background check at a licensed gun dealer. The officer was sentenced to 5 years probation because it was considered a straw purchase. The Supreme Court of the United States agreed with the prosecutor.

This is why the NRA says we don’t need more laws, but need to apply the laws that exist fairly and quickly.

John – Tell me again how so-called universal background checks are going to keep thugs from getting guns.

2-5 Drug Enforcement Agency says drugs more dangerous than guns

The US Drug Enforcement Agency released a report on the dangers of drugs and self-medication. They reported that 44 thousand people died from non-prescription drug overdose, and an additional 22 thousand died from overdose with prescription drugs. That far exceeds the rate for fatalities from motor vehicles, drunk driving, and accidental falls. Gun homicide and gun accidents barely made it onto

Rob- I dislike Governor Chris Christie, but the Governor said we need to treat addicts with compassion and medical care, not with stiffer prison sentences.

Gary- Ok, so where are the billionaires funding drug treatment?

Paul- (Crickets) No, they only want to disarm honorable citizens.

3- News 2

3-1 Thank them when the media gets it right

We criticize the media when they get the story wrong about citizen self-defense. That means we also have to say “thank you” when the media gives us fair coverage. They quoted both Rabbi David Bendory and executive director Charles Heller. Heller said, “The purpose of our organization is plain and simple: to destroy gun control. Gun control is poison, [its] that simple.” Rabbi Bendory said self-defense and owning firearms are an inherently Jewish value. Quote “God has given you the precious gift of life, and just like any precious gift, you have the responsibility to care for that and treat it with the proper respect… while initiating violence is not ever an appropriate thing to do, violence when used in defense of self is not only righteous, but a required responsibility.”

The Blaze asked executive director Heller why so many jews support gun control. He said, “Jews tend to be legalistic…we tend to be law obeyers and tend to rely on law rather than rely on force, that’s just the way we’re oriented.. Most jews grow up outside a gun culture.” Bendory added “There’s this stereotype of redneck, anti-Semitic gun owners. Jews are very surprised by what they found [after I take them to a shooting range.]”

It is always good to hear from JPFO, and thank you to The Blaze for a fair interview.

Gary –

Rob- I’m reading Loesh’s book, Hands off My Guns

John – and was struck how multi-cultural it is.

3-2 What is an elitist anti-rights billionaire to do?

We talked about the money in politics last week. You could argue that there is too much money in politics.. or too little money invested in political campaigns. What you can’t argue is that anti-rights billionaire Michael Bloomberg has invested tens of millions of dollars to buy politicians. Any sharp investor knows that a politician is worth much more when his party is in the majority. Bloomberg helped put Democrat McAuliffe (MC-CALL-IF) into the Virginia Governor’s seat. Bloomberg spent millions trying to turn the Virginia Senate from a Republican majority to Democrat control. Despite his multi-million dollar spending spree on two state senate seats, Bloomberg failed in last week’s election. The as Republicans retained all of their seats. This is important so that both houses can block Governor McAuliffe’s anti-gun regulations in Virginia.

John- Bloomberg has a terrible record at buying politicians. He lost the Colorado Senate seat and the Milwaukee Sheriff’s race to name a few.

Gary- He bought some of the Colorado Senate, and he bought the Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper.

Rob- Money talks, but so does citizen activism.

John – You forgot the attorney general of PA.

Extra- 3-2

-Four Wisconsin Democrats proposed sweeping firearms regulations last week. Their bill would The Wisconsin Assemblymen released a long list of cosmetic features they want outlawed on firearms. There is no grandfather clause, so existing firearms would have to be turned in or the owner imprisoned. At the same time that there is federal legislation to legalize firearms mufflers, this legislation would outlaw any gun with a threaded barrel that could accept a muffler.

-A New York Democrat Congresswoman proposed a bill in the House of Representatives that would The congresswoman admitted it was a way to keep guns out of the hands of poor people.

We conclude these democrats agree with Democrat Senator Hillary Clinton and Democrat Governor Martin O’Malley.. and think gun-grabs will get them elected. Well that didn’t work in Virginia, now did it.

-Who knew, but Oregon is still a state for gun lovers. Coos County Oregon just The initiative declared any state or federal infringement on gun owners to be void. The initiative also stops the county from spending any money on enforcement of gun control laws.. like the mandatory background check law the Oregon legislature passed this year. Well done.

3-3 How is that gun-free zone working for you, Governor Jerry Brown?

Faisal Mohammad brought a knife to school at the Merced campus of the University of California. Mohammad stabbed two students until a construction worker, who was working on campus, pulled Mohammad away. The construction worker had to kick Mohammad repeatedly to avoid being stabbed again. Mohammad then ran outside the classroom building and stabbed a female student advisor. Mohammad ran again and was shot by campus police.

The construction worker said being in a knife fight changed his opinion on concealed carry. He wishes he had a concealed firearm when the mass stabbing unfolded. It was almost exactly a month ago when I doubt that new law makes any of the school staff or parent of a student feel safer. It looks like Mohammad didn’t obey the gun free zone sign either.

Rob- Several unconfirmed law enforcement sources in Merced say the assailant was on a terrorist watch list. The islamic terror group ISIS praised his attack. It looks like federal, state and local law enforcement let Mohammad attack students while Governor Brown disarmed both students and staff on campus.

John- Elections have consequences but I fear the voters of California won’t heed this message.

News 3

4-1 NYT gets it wrong.. again and again

The that licensed concealed carry holders have killed almost a thousand people other than in self-defense over the last eight years. The Times has used that number before.. and been corrected before. How did the Times get their story so wrong.. so many times?

The Times takes its statistics from the Bloomberg funded Violence Policy Center. The Times list of murderers also included any concealed carry holder who committed suicide, even if they did not use a gun to take their own life. The Times did not include the fact that licensed concealed carry holders are 60 percent less likely to commit suicide than their peers. They counted any self-defense homicide by a license holder as a murder until the case was adjudicated as self-defense. The Times also added up each news report of a homicide, so a single shooting might be counted three or four times.

Using that method, a justified single defensive gun use might be counted as a murder each time it is in the papers, and only counted as self-defense one time when the grand jury gives their report.

The Times has been corrected several times before.. but they are not interested in using the truth when a lie serves their purpose of smearing honest and honorable firearms owners.

John – If they ever make a correction, you have to search to find it.

Gary –

Paul- The Zimmerman case must have been worth 200 or so murders

4-2 Self-defense news matters, because the media DOESN’T cover it.

This is our chance to thank our listeners. We hear about it when a crazy murderer shoots children. The media covers that event for hour after hour, and day after day. Then the media and the gun-grabbers say we should ban guns because guns only hurt people. This actually sounds reasonable to the average TV viewer because they get their news from the mainstream media, and the media never mentions the examples where guns save lives. That is the pernicious bias of the news media against gun owners. Let’s set the record straight.

This month, John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center collected 21 examples of for self-defense. Each example was covered by the local media, but none were covered by the mainstream media. This distorts how the public views a firearm in civilian hands. Hundreds of people might see the local news when a gun owner saves his family, millions of people see the national news if the gun was locked away and the murderer kills the entire family. Those 21 examples from October are the ones you didn’t hear about where ordinary citizens stopped carjackings, bank robberies, delivery man robberies, and numerous assaults.

Gary – Thank you John Lott.

We only bring you a few of these stories each week, but we wanted our informed listeners to know how many self-defense stories were out there, and how important these stories are. Thank you for listening. Please tell a friend.

JOHN- Gun Quotes- A lie doesn’t become truth, wrong doesn’t become right and evil doesn’t become good, just because it is accepted by a majority. Pastor Rick Warren

John- Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guest, Don Irvine after this advertisement.

6-1 A 中国体彩官方appowner living north east of san antonio, Texas had a hard night this week. There

have been over a dozen burglaries in the area, and many 中国体彩官方appowners were spending nervous nights wondering if they would be next in line. Each robbery involved a thief prying open a back door in the early morning. This time was different. This time the 中国体彩官方appowner heard the intruder and armed himself. The police took the thief into custody and transported him to the local hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to the groin. The police also found gloves, a pry bar and a head lamp with a red lens at the crime scene, and the articles did not belong to the 中国体彩官方appowner. Checking with local pawn shops, the thief had pawned a large number of objects in the last few weeks. It looks like this 中国体彩官方appowner stopped a crime wave.

6-2 Three armed and masked thieves entered Longs Jewelry store in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Two of the robbers waved guns around threatening customers and employees. The third thief stood guard at the front door. The thieves then smashed the display cases and grabbed the jewelry. The store is family owned, and one of the managers took his own firearm and One of the criminals was struck twice. All the thieves fled, with the injured thief collapsing on the ground outside the store. The two other criminals were long gone by the time the police arrived. Medical responders pronounced the wounded criminal dead at the scene. The dead man had two prior felony convictions for armed robbery in North Carolina. A spokesman for the local district attorney’s office said the store owner acted in defense of himself and others so no charges would be filed.

Rob- That is a tough problem for a gun owner to solve.

Gary –

John- Also under NC law, the family of the thief cannot sue the jeweler.

6-3 Elderly Man Fires a McLatchy and Scares Off Invaders

Hey, someone actually took vice-president Joe Biden’s advice! An elderly Utah couple opened their door Halloween night, not to a pack of sugar-crazed munchkins, but to pointing a shotgun and a rifle. However, the 中国体彩官方appowner was no Biden: he had a pistol on him. He drew and put one round — into the ceiling. That warning shot, know as a McLatchy North of the Border, shocked the invaders into dropping their weapons and beating feet. Score one, well: one half, for the 中国体彩官方appowner. He survived, but he does have a hole in his roof.

Gary will tell you that with his warning shot, the 中国体彩官方appowner was likely every bit as dumb as Slow-Joe and his advice to “”. Thankfully, the 中国体彩官方app-invaders were even dumber and panicked themselves into fleeing. If they had been a little smarter – or somehow even dumber – the situation could have quickly turned very bad for the owner. With four armed thugs inside the 中国体彩官方app there is absolutely zero time for anything but direct action. The good guy has to immediately start evening the odds, and the criminals holding the shotgun and rifle would be excellent places to start. Wasting precious seconds, some very limited ammunition, and perhaps endangering an innocent in the path of the warning shot was not the thing to do.

Thankfully, it all worked out for the better. We guess: better lucky than good.

John – There are a lot of good trainers in Utah and I’d suggest some training for this couple.

Paul – A great example of how not to do it.

6-4 Love Beats 911
They say love conquers all — especially when love is armed with a self-defense pistol. A San Antonio, Texas woman was grabbing her purse from her apartment when three suspects tried to rob her. – not from 911, but from her boyfriend – who got there a whole lot faster. In the confrontation, one robber was shot in the shoulder and one in the leg.

The suspects escaped by car, but investigators found them lying on the sidewalk at another apartment complex. Naturally, they claimed to be the victims of the robbery. The cops weren’t buying it, and the perforated duo will be charged with aggravated robbery. The boyfriend is not expected to face criminal charges. We suspect he will be rewarded in other ways for his timely and brave actions.

Paul – Call 911 as well!

John – Doesn’t Mas Ayoob always say be the first to call 911?

Rob- We post each of our news and defensive gun use articles at Polite Society Podcast.com Please take a minute and share them with a friend.

John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money.

. It was what one would expect from CBS and the mainstream media. Among the interviewees was NJ State Senator Loretta Weinberg who was the sponsor of New Jersey’s “smart gun law”. Lesley Stahl asked her a lot of questions but it was the one that wasn’t asked that was important. That is, if smart guns are such a good idea and if police officers have often been shot with their own firearms, why is law enforcement specifically excluded from the requirements of that law? The answer is that cops like anyone with a modicum of commonsense don’t trust them to work when they need to work.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

John – This week has been tied up with business. On Monday I had to attend a district meeting for my company. The one thing I like about people in my district is that they aren’t anti-gun. Indeed, one of my co-workers wanted to show me a video he took of him shooting with his new suppressor. It’s good to work where you don’t have to hide your pro-gun views from your co-workers.

Other than that, I haven’t really done anything gun related.sigh.

Rachel – Finally, lots of guns & politics news! The highlights: Appleseed shoot in Fredericksburg, new , and a new holster that I absolutely LOVE for concealed carry – check for pictures and a full review this week.

I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Seg 2- News

Hillary Clinton For President

Barring a well deserved, but politically unlikely, FBI Server-gate indictment, Hillary Clinton will be the Democrat candidate for President. Joe Biden blinked, Jim Webb found himself at odds with the current party, and Lincoln Chafee wandered off in confusion. Bernie Sanders and the other non-entities still running are likely no threat to the Clinton machine.

In November ‘16, Americans will likely have a choice between two very different directions for the country中国体彩官方app. Restricting gun rights has already been targeted by candidate Clinton as a major portion of her campaign. She has proposed the Australian model of gun control, with it’s door-to-door confiscation of firearms and destruction of the citizenry’s Constitutional Rights.

If you do not agree with the elimination of your Rights, now is the time to get involved. Support the candidates of your choice in national, state and local contests. Join organizations that speak your values, and contribute your money and especially your time. Now is the time to fight – before the doors are kicked in.

John – I notice that Hillary’s spokeswoman tried to walk back off some of the comments about gun confiscation.

Ben Carson

Presidential candidate Ben Carson has a very different take than Hillary on the 2nd Amendment.

Dr Carson said that logic and common sense make clear that it’s time to talk about eliminating gun free zones, not guns. He observed that a lot of these shooters are people who are mentally unstable, but they’re not so unstable that they don’t recognize that if I’m going to kill a lot of people, I need to go to a place where people are not likely to have guns and kill me. We should be concerned about [these tragedies] so let’s sit down and let’s talk about reasonable ways to prevent this from happening without infringing on our 2nd Amendment rights. He added, that’s what intelligent people do.

And that’s probably why Hillary doesn’t.

Rachel-Carson hasn’t always had pro-gun rhetoric. In fact, he has some disturbing statements about not wanting people to be able to have semi-automatic firearms.

John – So has Jeb Bush whose campaign seems to be imploding.

NRA More Popular Than Obama or Hillary

Despite decades of political demonization, a new shows The National Rifle Association is much more popular than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. 58% of Americans said they have a favorable view of the gun rights organization, while 35% said they have an unfavorable view. Seven percent were undecided. By contrast, Less than 50% of the populace supports Obama, while only 39% favor Hillary.

CF – I’m amazed that toe fungus isn’t more popular than Hillary.

John – I got the results of a poll taken of NH voters.

New York and Connecticut Anti Gun Law Upheld

On Monday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit most of the 2013 arms prohibition laws enacted in New York and Connecticut. According to David Kopel, the 2nd Circuit decision exemplifies the pattern in many lower federal courts of defying the Supreme Court’s admonition in McDonald v. Chicago that the Second Amendment is not “a second-class right, subject to an entirely different body of rules than the other Bill of Rights guarantees.” The approach of some lower courts seems to be that Heller stands for little beyond its holding that handgun bans are unconstitutional.

It is all very interesting reading – and very detailed. We recommend that our listeners read the entire excellent article at the link in the show notes. However, as a take-away, one of the underlying themes is that Elections Have Consequences. The President gets to appoint the federal judges, including those in the Supreme Court. Who you elect – or allow to be elected due to non-participation – is very important!

Gallup’s Annual Crime Poll

Another Gallup poll, the Annual Crime Poll, also had some . 56% of Americans say more concealed weapons would make country中国体彩官方app safer. And all political candidates should take note that more than one in four U.S. registered voters (26%) say they would only vote for a candidate who shares their views on gun control — about double the 11% to 15% who said this in the year after the 1999 Columbine High School massacre.

However, the public’s support for Universal Background Checks and a centralized database is strong. Even though they are uncertain that the background checks would actually reduce the number of mass shootings.

It seems we have more education to do.

Lucky Gunner Reviews Self-Defense Cartridges

Here’s another article our listeners absolutely need to read. Lucky Gunner has tested . Put a little science in your duty pistol. Link is in the show notes.

John – Lucky Gunner is a good company. I don’t say this because my blog is one of their affiliates, I say it because they stood up to the Brady Campaign when they were sued over selling ammo to the Aurora, Colorado theater killer.

Finger Gun Forces Emergency Landing

A San Jose to DFW flight was because of an unruly, armed passenger. The passenger who allegedly boarded the flight already in his cups, became belligerent when the attendant would not serve him any more alcohol. The plane was diverted when the man produced a gun and was then subdued by several men.

It was not know how the 26-year-old passenger was able to get his weapon past TSA. There are reports that he had it in-hand when he went through the security theatre checkpoint. However, it’s unclear if it can be legally considered an arm, because technically, it was attached to his hand. Which is where most of us keep our fingers. The weapon that diverted a flight, burned tens of thousands of dollars, and delayed 96 passengers — was a finger gun. The very same fearsome weapon that has armed generations of 4-year-olds.

After the landing, a shamed-faced American Airlines refused to prosecute, released the plane, and sent the drunk to a hotel to sober up. He’ll continue his flight later. After all, It could have been much, much worse – the man might have been armed with a Pop Tart gun.

CF – Our society has become insanely hoplophobic if a finger-gun requires the emergency diversion of an airplane.

Hearing Protection Act of 2015 Introduced

Rep. Matt Salmon, Republican from Arizona, introduced this week. It is called the . The bill, if it becomes law, will remove suppressors and silencers from the purview of the National Firearms act. Even though they really aren’t firearms, they would now be treated like any other firearm and you would go through a NICS check. You would no longer have to pay the $200 tax nor would you have to wait 6-9 months for a background check to be completed.

The bill would also preempt state laws that would tax or require registration of suppressors. It would also refund the $200 tax if paid after October 22nd.

The Hearing Protection Act has the support of both the and the. is significant as they haven’t been pro-suppressor in the past.

John – As I’ve mentioned in the past on this podcast, I have some hearing impairment due to shooting without hearing protection when I was in my teens and 20s. I am a strong supporter of this bill and would urge our listeners to contact their representatives and Senators to push this bill.

Rachel. – You can use to send a letter to your congressman and state’s senators.

Rachel- , recommendations for preventing hearing loss – “If state law permits, consider providing noise suppressors for gun barrels”

CF – Teach your family and friends the importance of hearing and eye protection. We were young and stupid and ignored our eyes and ears out of machismo. Now that we’re old and stupid, we know better.

Gun Quote

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.”

The Liberal Party won a big majority in this week’s election. The Conservative Party under PM Stephen Harper suffered a big loss.

Will this be a loss for gun owners in Canada and if so why?

Part of the Liberal Party’s platform involved gun control. Do you think the gun registry will be coming back?

What other impediments will gun owners in Canada face?

I listened to an interview with the director of the Canadian Shooting Sports Association and he seemed quite concerned with UN marking requirements. Why is that an issue?

What is the role of bureaucrats and the RCMP in gun regulations in Canada?

Where do Canadian gun owners and enthusiasts go from here?

CCW Holder Shoots an Attacker In Front of His House

Alertness and preparation likely from serious injury or worse.

The 21-year-old pulled into his driveway after his late night shift as a welder. A car slowing down in front of his house concerned him enough to put his legally carried CCW pistol in his pocket. Going toward his house, he was rushed by a robber, who leveled his pistol at the victim’s head and shouted “Don’t move!” In that deadly situation, the victim refused the thief’s order and moved decisively. “He was a little quicker on the draw and he shot the suspect,” says Lt. Joe Heffernan of the Toledo Police Department. (As an aside, this is a nice illustration of action beating reaction.)

The victim’s shot hit the suspect in the abdomen. He called 911 while the former aggressor fled. Police found the suspect in a hospital, where he is expected to live. “We have no reason to believe that [the victim] did not fire in self-defense, so no charges have been filed as of yet,” says Heffernan. However, it remains up to the prosecutor’s office to decide if they will take the case before a grand jury.

The victim’s mother says her son bought a gun and got a permit this year after two break-ins at the family’s 中国体彩官方app. “I have a very good kid,” said the mother. “He doesn’t bother no one. He’s not in a gang. He’s not into none of that. He’s just trying to make an honest living”. A neighbor also approved of the victim’s use of force. The neighbor had been jumped and robbed himself and is in the process of getting his own CCW permit.

We too applaud the young man’s preparations, alertness, and courage. It certainly looks like he did everything right to save his life.

Oklahoma woman shoots boyfriend during domestic dispute

An Oklahoma woman was forced to when he allegedly threatened her two children. An early morning domestic dispute took a violent turn when the man assaulted the children and went after one with a knife. The woman armed herself and shot twice. Deputies found the boyfriend dead in the front yard.

So far, no charges have been filed.

A Young Man Uses new CPL
Just , a young Detroit man had to use the weapon he lawfully carried. Three teens approached him at a bus stop and told him if he moved they were going to blow him [up]. One thug demanded money and pulled a gun to back up his threat. Temporarily distracted by the victim’s $220, they allowed the man to draw his pistol and fire. Two were hit and the third took to his heels.

The victim called the police, who found the two wounded assailants in a nearby hospital. One of the teens confessed to this crime and others; further evidence was found on the pair’s Facebook pages. The CPL holder has been questioned and released.

No one has been charged yet, the case still has to be handed over to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office.

The victim’s brother believes this is a perfect example of why he and his brother have no choice but to carry in a city that is plagued by crime. “I believe you should have the right to protect yourself from any danger,” he said, “We should be able to walk and go where we want freely and not be in fear of our life. That’s why I believe your CPL is protecting you from any danger you may come across.”

Pastor Shoots Man in Church

The of the Detroit area City of God Ministries shot and killed a man threatening him with a brick. The alleged assailant was shot 4 or 5 times in front of the congregation.

Police said the pastor had had issues with the man before. He had been threatening him to do bodily harm. On that Sunday, the man posted to Facebook, “Can’t wait to see Sunday message at the City of God Ministry. I’ll be there with the truth. Later he typed, “This (expletive) gonna hit the fan.” The man believed the pastor had an affair with his wife and had gotten her pregnant.

The pastor has not been arrested and is cooperating with the police. Prosecutors will decide whether the shooting was justified.

Self Defense at Frisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf

It may seem fishy, but police say a was likely justified. A 73-year-old resident heard someone in his 中国体彩官方app just before midnight. The man walked downstair and encountered a 54-year-old intruder — and shot him in the knee. The old guy then politely “escorted” the burglar out of his house and called police. They found the kneecapped bandit hobbling about a block away. He was treated at and was expected to be booked into jail when released from the hospital.

CF – Not a good idea to clear one’s house. That’s what the professional donut eaters are trained, equipped and staffed to do. And escorting the wounded man out the door… wow. The 中国体彩官方appowner certainly needs to work on his 中国体彩官方app-defense tactics. Fortunately, it all worked out for the good.

John – I wonder if the gun was locked up and in secure storage before he retrieved it to defend himself.

中国体彩官方app Invader Climbs Naked into Bed With 中国体彩官方app Owners
Finally, in our News From the Really Weird comes a (hmph, go figure); A 中国体彩官方appowner was awakened by a late night smoochie. However, it wasn’t his honey bunch looking for a little sugar, but a naked 中国体彩官方app intruder in their bed.

The amorous cat burglar broke into the couple’s northside 中国体彩官方app and started collecting their valuables. Spying the sleeping 中国体彩官方appowners, the robber took off his clothes and climbed into bed with them. He wasn’t completely naked, as the invader had a knife. Awakened by the kiss, the man pushed the criminal off him, and was fortunate to be able to back up his No-Means-No with a handgun.

An ear-witness related; “Screaming. It was screaming at each other. There was something about a knife and then after that, that’s when the shots.” Three shots were fired, driving the invader away, while struggling to get back into his pants. Police found the jilted thief a block away in a vacant house he had broken into. He was hospitalized for possible drug use (No, really?) and then booked. The Robbing Don Juan was charged with first and second degree burglary, first degree sexual abuse, and the unlawful use of a weapon. He can add those charges this to his already extensive arrest record from Oregon and California.

Our congratulations to the 中国体彩官方appowner for stopping what could have easily been a deadly situation. But please sir, put some pants on.

Listener e-mail discussion

1st email is from Bob in South Carolina

Greetings All.

I listen to and enjoy your podcast each week. On the last podcast you mentioned a DGU at a Waffle House somewhere in SC (I don’t remember where). Apparently someone affiliated with Waffle House mentioned continuing their gun-free policy. While I am not sure, I assume this person was just affiliated with Waffle House in the location where the incident occurred. I live in SC, have eaten in quite a few Waffle Houses, and have yet to see one that is posted to prohibit concealed weapons. You mentioned how you would not be eating there again, but you might want to actually check before you just decide to pass them all by as I know for a fact that there are others in SC that have no problem with concealed carry – or if they do they have not posted their restaurants in any way to indicate that desire.

Keep up the good work and take care.

Bob in SC

Next we heard from Greg in Washington about shoulder holsters.

Paul & the gang,

I got a Galco JackAss shoulder rig for my 1911, for driving and wearing around the house, I love it, I can pack a REAL gun & mags in gym shorts and a tanktop.

Hope this helps

And we got a VOICE MAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted . This post which is a collaboration with Rob Vance features a graphic which shows the FBI Violent Crime Rates (crimes per 100,000) plotted against the percentage of the US population that lives in states with either shall issue concealed carry or constitutional carry. While as they say in statistics that correlation isn’t causation, you can see a negative correlation meaning that as the population with more gun rights has risen, crime rates have fallen. So much for the blood running in the streets thesis of the anti-rights groups.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

John – No gun shows or shooting this week. However, I did do a bit of blogging including an important post entitled Every Picture Tells a Story, Part Three. More on this post at the show close segment of the show.

We are spending the weekend with our granddaughter and her parents. Olivia has a lot of theme-related outfits like UNC Tar Heels and the Carolina Panthers. It got me to thinking I need to find a NRA tee shirt for a toddler. Just imagine how a picture of her in a NRA shirt would drive the anti-rights crowd mad!

On a more serious note, I had my hearing checked this week. I have moderate 4000 hertz notch hearing loss. It along with my tinnitus can be traced to shooting in my younger years without hearing protection. My audiologist made the recommendation to use both foam plugs and muffs when shooting indoors. Given her boyfriend shoots 3-gun, I think she may know what she is talking about. I would urge all of our listeners – and especially the younger ones – to really make an effort to protect your hearing. Hearing loss is irreversible. This is just another reason that suppressors need to come off the NFA list. It is a safety issue.

Rob- Mailed in the last paperwork for my CCW. More dry practice. I’m excited to go to Florida next weekend.

Paul- Not a lot of news as I unexpectedly got a student on Tuesday and that turned a 70 hour work week into a 100 plus hour work week.

Training – We just booked a training class for next year and I am HUGELY excited about this. May 12th through the 15th of 2016 will be the Polite Society Podcast MAG 40 in Sioux Falls, SD

Seg 2- News

Hillary Declares the NRA an Enemy

In the first Democrat , Hillary Clinton proudly claimed the NRA as her . In the following days she continued her demonization of the organization, equating it with terrorists, communists and Iranians. She promoted the Australian Model of gun control, deliberately hiding it’s jack-booted door-to-door confiscation of guns. Clinton has announced her gun control, promising that when she’s elected, she’ll ban some guns and impose restrictive gun control laws on all others, even without Congress.

Clinton has chosen to make an enemy of the hundred million law-abiding gun owners; making them the problem instead of the drug gangs, criminals and the insane who are the real source of crime. Constitutional protections apparently mean little to her and she has openly challenged the Supreme Court’s pro-rights gun decisions. Her election would mean a direct assault on the rights of free men and women.

As such, we’re proud to be Hillary’s Enemy.

RM – If the NRA was truly the same as terrorist, communists and Iranians, It would probably be a good thing, as the ‘Boma administration and Clinton have a long history of rolling over for them.

John – I would also note that Hillary, in a New Hampshire town hall, advocated using a “cash for clunkers” approach to achieve her Australian style gun control. OK, just whose money is going to pay for that? Hers or ours?

CNN Money says NRA funded by small donors

If you watched the democrat debates then you heard the chant that the NRA is funded by the gun manufacturers. Journalists at CNN Money did their 中国体彩官方appwork and looked at the public record. None of the donations to the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative action come from corporate interests. over the last ten years. The largest donation was 50 thousand dollars. We gave 22 million dollars during the 2014 election. As one NRA official said ‘politicians don’t listen to the NRA, but they listen to the NRA’s 5 million members.’ There is a reason. The NRA has been effective in getting its members to donate their money, their time for campaigns, and in getting their members to the polls on election day.

John – Hillary just gave the NRA a gift. It will make fund raising that much easier.

Rob – It is all good publicity.

Harvard Study: More Guns – Less Crime
Always good to have some to offset the emotional drivel of the politicians. Especially when they come from the Dear Leader’s own school. A Harvard University thoroughly refutes the anti’s long held belief that more guns means more crime.

According to the news site , a study in the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy said the more guns a nation has, the less criminal activity they find. The study collected data from the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the United Nations International Study on Firearms Regulation.

Now, where have we heard those same results before? Could it be…. ?

John – the anti’s are also trying to inflate the number of deaths.

Gary –

Rob- that is why I compared the rate of violence, not simply violence with a handgun.

Gun Violence Decreasing – Guns Sales Increasing
Refuting the scare-mongering of Clinton and the Obama administration, National Shooting Sports Foundation that, “Historical data from FBI Uniform Crime Reports show significant decreases in both the number of annual violent crimes committed as well as the violent crime rate in the United States.” The figures show a 35.2 percent decline in violent crimes over the past 20 years and a 16.2 percent decline over the past 10 years. The continuing decrease in violent crime comes at a time when firearms ownership has increased significantly across America, a fact that utterly contradicts the mantra of anti-gun groups that more guns equals more crime.

With the Left’s demonization of the firearm, it is no small coincidence that last month’s adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of just over a million inquiries is the highest September on record for the 17-year-old system, with an increase of 4.7 percent compared to the September 2014 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure. Obama continues his record as the best gun salesman ever.

For our new listeners, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System is run by the FBI. The system reports to gun dealers and local law enforcement if a gun buyer is a prohibited person.

The Creepy Ballerina Blames Deadliest September in 13 Years On Police Being Afraid to do Their Jobs

Years of Progressive policies have to the Windy City with a spike in murders. You heard that right; rabidly anti-gun Chicago is bucking the nationwide trend of diminishing murder rates. Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel blames Chicago’s in 13 years on police being afraid to do their jobs. Rahm said “We have allowed our police department to get fetal and it is having direct consequence. (The police) have pulled back from the ability to interdict … they don’t want to be a news story themselves, they don’t want their career ended early, and it’s having an impact (on crime).”

The so-called Ferguson Effect is causing police officers to fear for their freedom, families and careers if they aggressively go after criminals of a protected class. They can see that their police commanders and political leaders will happily throw them to the wolves if their actions excite the professional activists or sensation-hungry media. As a result, the street officers are deciding to play it safe, get their 20 years in, and retire. Criminals on the street are reacting to the withdrawal of enforcement.

If you demonize and demoralize the cops, and disarm the populace, what did the politicians think would happen? Congratulations Chicago — and Baltimore, Washington DC, St Louis, Frisco, LA… all cities with radically increased murders rates — you are reaping what you’ve sown.

Rob- That is sad news. The people being hurt the most are poor minorities. I’m sorry, but we tried to tell you that elections have consequences.

John – Rob you are absolutely correct. When I was looking at the CDC mortality statistics, a combination of African Americans and Latinos comprised the majority of deaths.

John W. – Camen NJ and what is the real cost of this policy in terms of residents lives.

Rob – We have 15 black people killed every day by black people.. and the news media ignores it as if black lives don’t matter.

Texas Police Offering Free CCW Course
Not all police are retreating from the criminals. The police department in Aransas Pass, Texas is offering . Police Chief Eric Blanchard says he wants people in the community to be educated when it comes to guns. “The bad guys don’t care about the rules. If they want to be armed they are going to be armed. If we can offset those numbers with good people being armed out there. I think the odds are in favor of the good people winning when a disastrous lunatic decides to strike.” The first three classes are full. But they plan to offer more classes in the coming months.

Yah gotta love Texas.

Rob- I do. Many sheriffs across the country中国体彩官方app do this.

John – I just wish more police ranges were available to the general public.

Gary –

Indiana Sheriff Vows to Ignore Obama’s Executive Actions on Gun Control
Not all police are retreating from the politicians. appeared on a local PBS panel discussion about gun rights and gun control in the wake of recent college shootings. He went on to say that he wouldn’t obey orders from on high that went against his constitutional oath. Quote “We’ve always had this conversation that we need more reasonable gun control put in place. But we (already) have what is reasonable, in my opinion, and in fact it’s probably overdone. I think people are tired of being victims and a firearm is a great equalizer. Whether it’s a female, whether it’s an 80-year-old, the guy who’s kicking in your front door after he knocked and you don’t answer — that is a very scary event. You can call 911, but I’m telling you, we’re not gonna make it in time to neutralize the threat … the people of this nation [have got] to take responsibility for their own safety.”

Another guest, a local radio host, said gun registration is a “feel-good” measure that actually “works” only when the government moves against the people. He added that following England’s gun restrictions that there is now a “knife culture” there. That’s absurd, It’s not the tool, it’s the bad guy.

Sounds like Indiana has a hot-spot of common sense in media and law enforcement.

Constitutional Carry Takes Effect in Maine

We have some great news this week as Maine became a Constitutional Carry state. According to a poll in the, a clear majority like the idea. Maine citizens have flocked to gun stores in order to exercise their Constitutionally guaranteed right. Blood is not running in the streets, despite the usual hyperbolic claims of the anti-rights groups. that the sky is falling.

Maine State Senator Erik Brakey sponsored the new law. He said, “A criminal is not going to get a permit. He’s going to break the law. The same goes for gun-free zones. Criminals are not going to obey these zones.” Likewise, firearm instructor Adam Foster added the perspective of someone who lived under a similar law in Alaska. He said, “The world continued to turn round and round. Nothing changed, really. There were no wild, crazy gunfights in the street.”

Well, heck, we could have told them that. And we will continue to.

Six states down. Only 44 left to go.

John – if you are not a prohibited person and are 21, you can carry concealed or openly. If you are a vet, then it is 18 or older.

Princeton Turns to Firearm to Protect Students and Staff
In our last story, there’s been a sudden, unexpected rush to sanity at an unlikely place: the ivy covered walls of Princeton.

The reports that Princeton Department of Public Safety officers will have access to rifles that can be used in the event that a gunman tries to take innocent life or simply brandishes a firearm. DPS Executive Director Paul Ominsky said, “The national best practices for responding to an active shooter have evolved. It is now a law enforcement best practice to get an armed officer to the scene as quickly as possible to save lives.” He added, “Response time matters. Even a few minutes can make a difference to save a life.”

Well, heck, we could have told them that. And it wouldn’t take a half million dollar education either. See, a professional, degreed educator CAN learn. But can Harvard and Yale?

Gary –

Rob- Blue polyester uniforms don’t bring you superpowers?

Gun Quotes

We chose this week’s gun quotes in honor of the New Jersey SAFE conference and the Gun Rights Policy Conference.

This quote is from Ayn Rand. She said, There is another kind of social pyramid. The genius who fights ‘every form of tyranny over the mind of man’ is fighting a battle for which lesser men do not have the strength, but on which their freedom, their dignity, and their integrity depend. It is the pyramid of moral endurance. Close quote.

Let me add that I am more than willing to be a step in this pyramid

Rob MorseObama’s Executive Orders – or why we don’t trust the government with our guns

Rob- One of our listeners contacted me with a criticism. On this podcast we speak as if our listeners knew all the previous news. That means a new listener is missing part of the story. Thank you, Alana, for that comment. Here is a story that brings new listeners up to speed since the murders at Sandyhook, Connecticut two years ago.

Many gun owners are antagonistic towards the Obama Administration. There is a reason for that hostile attitude today. The Obama administration lied to us again and again. At one point, Obama said he was not here to take our guns. Later, he said we should turn them all in. The president has also weaponized every aspect of government to suit his political ends. From the Internal Revenue Service, to the Veterans Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency, each agency maximizes the political donations they receive and ignores the people’s business.

After the public murder at a community college in Oregon, President Obama again said he’d issue executive orders to regulate firearms. I read his 23 point plan, and it is important to read his orders to see how they will be abused by a corrupt Chicago politician.

Gary- This doesn’t sound too bad. Obama said he’d require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. Isn’t that a good thing to stop criminals from getting guns?

Rob- This sounds good, and it might be good under an honest president. First, criminals don’t buy guns at gun stores, so they never bother with background checks. All our recent murderers either passed their background checks or murdered to get their guns.

As to the national gun owner database, Unfortunately, there is insufficient fact checking before the feds put garbage into their national database. We’ve all read about people who have a similar name or address who were denied a gun or the ability to get on an airplane. Making bigger mistakes faster is not progress.

Suppose someone with a name similar to yours tries to buy a gun. There is a terrible bias to use military tactics on gun owners when a phone call would do.

Here is an example. Suppose your brother is a military veteran. He listed your house as his address when he was deployed. Years later he lives somewhere else and is being treated by the Veterans administration Now the cough medicine your brother took is sufficient cause for you to get a SWAT team kicking down your door to disarm you “for your own safety”. After all, we wouldn’t want a gun owner taking dangerous drugs.. even though your brother is now thousands of miles away.

Those are not accidental faults; those are key features of the Obama plan. The political goal of this administration is to promote their political ends, not to help those who are struggling with addiction or depression. They want to punish gun ownership and make guns unattractive to the general public. A federal database is only another political tool to that end.

Gary- OK, so how about this one. Obama wants to remove legal barriers in Obama Care that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. Wouldn’t that help find crazy people and keep them from getting guns?

Rob- Good question, Gary. This proposal means the private information you gave to your doctor isn’t private any longer. How about the night you stayed awake worrying about your nephew. That can now be seen as a disqualifying sign of mental illness. Don’t talk about the headache your spouse had last week. Those can be considered critical indicators that when taken together allow the government to seize your firearms. The government now pays your doctor, so the doctor you visit actually works for them, not for you. Find a private doctor and pay him yourself if you want advice on any mental health issues.

Gary- Obama says he wants to improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system. What could be wrong with that?

Rob- Let me translate that bit of bureaucrat speak for you. “Improve incentives” means withhold federal money unless the states do what the Obama’s donors want done. In our case, states will fork over information about gun owners or the feds will cut state funding.

I’ve seen Chicago politics, and believe me that a loyal socialist bureaucrat can always find a paperwork violation.

Gary- Obama asked the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks. Don’t we want to keep guns away from danger people?

Rob- Remember, Gary, that the Obama administration called Christians, veterans, and the Tea Party the greatest threat to America. The southern poverty law center called my wife a terrorist.

Meanwhile, Obama invited thousands of Syrian fighters and thousands of Mexican drug gangs across the US border. We’ve already seen military veterans and social security recipients stripped of their ability to own firearms because they have their monthly checks sent to a third-party payee. According to the Obama Administration, anyone who isn’t a dues paying card carrying SEIU member is a threat.

Gary- Obama also proposed new rules to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

Rob- That sounds so harmless.. and it so so easy to abuse. First, the government comes into possession of firearms for many reasons. It might simply mean you had a gun in your car when you were the innocent victim in a traffic accident. You might be a passenger in a car that was stopped, and now the government takes your firearm “for officer safety” and without probable cause.

You would think that running a background check simply means determining that a gun owner is not a criminal. If you think that, then you date yourself to an earlier time when we had an honest government. Today it means searching your medical records to see if anyone in your family ever asked for a sleeping pill. You can have your firearms seized if your niece, who now stays with you, ever saw a mental-health counselor or had a restraining order when she was getting a divorce. You can be disarmed if you had your dying parents move in with you while they were receiving pain medication.

Once the government has your guns, then they will determine when they are done with their investigation. If that takes 15 years or 20 years, well that works for them.

Gary- Obama wants the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to issue guidelines on background checks for private sellers. That seems OK to me. I want everyone to have a background check.

Rob- Of course you and I want to keep guns away from violent criminals. At the same time, we don’t want to turn honest gun buyers, gun sellers and Federal Firearms License holders into criminals through bureaucratic regulations. There are some 23 thousand firearms laws, and government lawyers have all the time in the world to prosecute you for each regulation. Some states already require that every firearm transfer go through a gun dealer and receive approval by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Failure to comply can be a felony.

Even handing your gun to your hunting partner as you cross a fence line is now illegal in some states. Think about background checks for a minute. If I sell a gun to someone with a concealed carry license, then I already know the person has passed a background checks.

No, this proposal is not about criminals getting guns. I’ll say it again; criminals never use background checks. This executive order paves the way for a national database of all firearms owners.

Gary- Obama asked for a campaign to promote safe and responsible gun ownership.

Gary, it sounds like Obama is going to promote your concealed carry class. I guarantee he is not going to fund the NRA to run more firearms safety campaigns. This order allows Obama to give federal dollars to his anti-gun lobbyists. You and I now get to fund their propaganda with taxpayer dollars. Of course they anti-rights groups can and will endorse candidates before the election. That is what community organizers from Chicago do with their phone and their pen.

Gary- President Obama asked the Department of Justice to report on lost and stolen guns. That sounds safe enough.

Rob- The Department of Justice is headed by US Attorney General Loretta Lynch. She is a noted anti-gun bigot. An anti-gun bigot would write a report about the so called lost and stolen guns that criminals use. She would say we need “smart guns”. Those are guns that become inoperative if they are stolen from the rightful user, just like smart phones. Of course, the Attorney General would exempt police, military, and the security details that protect politicians.

PAUL- That’s because no one wants to trust their life to a gun that can be hacked by a chinese teenager.

Gary- Obama asked the Consumer Product Safety Commission to review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes. Don’t we want top quality locks and safes?

Rob- Paul, Gary and John, when was the last time you had your gun-safe tested and re-certified by a licensed gun safe inspector?

John- There are no licensed gun safe inspectors!

Rob- Exactly. So the Consumer Products Safety Commission can now report you as a danger to the public because you’re using an unregulated gun safe. They will issue a report saying firearms must be locked and inaccessible.. preferable buried under several feet of reinforced concrete. And the rest of us need our safes inspected every 90 days.. or they come take our firearms because we were negligent. I trust this president as far as I can throw my gun safe.

skip Gary- You have to like this one, Rob. Obama wants to provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

Rob- Gary, the NRA is not going to write that report. It’s Obama who will tell us how to react when the next murderer comes to a “gun free” school. Unfortunately, we need a plan that goes beyond run, cower and die.

The NRA and other organizations have begged schools to plan and train for active shooters. When such laws were proposed in congress two years ago, the bills were buried by democrat legislators! The Obama Administration will produce a propaganda piece so that urban school boards can safely continuing their policy of “gun free school zones”. Me, I’d prosecute every school administrators for criminal negligence after each and every violent injury in their school.

Gary- I’ve one more question. President Obama wants the Surgeon General to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. That sounds good to me.

Rob- Gary, this might sound like research into public health to treat the mentally ill. Instead, Obama wants to spin up his propaganda machine. The anti-gun Surgeon General is named Vivek Murthy. He will issue propaganda from the Centers for Disease Control. He will report that all firearms in civilian hands are a risk to public health and safety. The Surgeon General can define anyone who wants to defend themselves as mentally ill. The Surgeon General can also fund the Schools of Public Health that anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg has already set up. Those universities will produce more government propaganda using taxpayer dollars.

Gary- You’re saying our own government will be twisted against us no matter what the letter of the law says.

Gary, that is it exactly. I judge a politician by his results, not his words. If you have not been listening to the podcast for a while, then you might have missed our recent political history. I am critical of this president for turning government against his political enemies.. and the american people. The Obama administration does anything it pleases. There is no law to constrain them as long as they have 40 loyal Democrats in the Senate and cowardly Republicans leading them. No one’s rights are secure.. particularly firearms owners.

Paul- We will be back with our stories of defensive gun use after this break.

Segment 4 DGUs

Please try not to say “And”, “Ahh”, “So” and “Ummm”.

Concealed Carrier Stops Kidnapping Attempt
A Pennsylvania man used his concealed firearm to stop an near Plymouth last Monday. A criminal first assaulted a local woman outside a gas station and tried to steal her car. Frustrated, the man ran into the road to steal another car. The car he stopped had two children secured in the back seat. The woman driver began yelling for help as she was pulled from the wheel and thrown to the ground.

It was at that point a local man drew his concealed handgun and intervened in the desperate situation. “I have a license to carry this gun, don’t move!” Rob Ragukus held the man at gunpoint until police arrived. No shots were fired.

The owner of the gas station said that Ragukus was “The best man. He saved all of us.” The CCW holder said “I had to do what I had to do. It’s something everyone needs to do, step up and take back their town.”

Congratulations, Mr Ragukus. Well done, well done indeed.

Rape Victim Snatches Assailant’s Gun and Shoots Him in the Face
A woman found herself late in a Springfield, Ohio night. The rapist held her body, but could not constrain her will to live. When she saw an opportunity, she took it – and the gun – and shot her attacker in the face – twice.

It only took the jury four hours to convict the one-eyed rapist.

In the situation the woman was in, she could have been easily been further injured or killed after the rape. In that desperate situation, she acted, and used the best tool at hand to even the terrible odds. Our congratulations to the heroic, resourceful woman.

Two Thugs Try To Rob Armed Citizen Walking Down Street
Here’s a damn good example of why we need to bear arms when outside the 中国体彩官方app. A Houston area man was taking a late night stroll in his neighborhood when he was . The man used his firearm to defend his life, killing one attacker and wounding the second.

A neighbor related; “The shots sounded like they were fired by somebody who knew what they were doing; very distinct and deliberate,” said Marcel Smith, who lives feet away from the shooting, “From my balcony, I could hear the deputies and the robbery victim talking about it all.”

No arrests have been made so far. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has not said if the shooting was justified.

Woman Who Shot at Fleeing Shoplifter is Charged
It is a terrible thing when someone uses their CCW firearm. The only thing worse would be the injury or death of an innocent. Laws require that the weapon must only be used when serious harm or death is imminent. A Detroit-area woman ignored what she was taught in her CCW course and injected herself into a shoplifting situation where no lives were at risk.

The CCW holder saw a man with a shopping cart running from 中国体彩官方app Depot security. The man jumped into a waiting SUV with about a thousand dollars of merchandise. The woman drew her CCW and fired at the departing vehicle. The SUV made good it’s escape, limping away with a flat tire. Two Flint men, ages 52 and 46, were later for the shoplifting. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Detroit police investigated and determined that the woman was not being threatened when she fired the shots. She has now with a misdemeanor count of reckless use, handling or discharge of a firearm. The woman’s lawyer said she made “a spilt-second decision to take action, trying to help.” We disagree; she should have already long known this was NOT a time to employ her gun.

A Detroit Free Press columnist that the woman was only was “…only doing what she’d been told, time and again, from people like National Rifle Association chief Wayne LaPierre to presidential candidate Ben Carson.” This is, of course, is a damn lie. Shame on the columnist for writing such libel and the Detroit rag for printing the lie. But print it they did – harming the CCW movement that we support.

The woman’s CCW class was required to teach her when a CCW firearm can be lawfully used. Since no lives were being threatened, she should have kept the gun in the holster and acted as a good witness for the police. Because of the critical nature of what we do, all CCW carriers NEED additional training, recurring training, and ongoing practice. DON’T be this woman.

Waffle House concealed carry permit holder Shoots an armed robbery suspect
There are a lot of places we’d rather be than in a Waffle House at O’dark thirty. However, the employees and customers of one hash house are glad a was amongst them one morning. “He saved us, that’s what he did.” according to one employee.

Charleston, South Carolina police received a 5 AM report of an armed robbery and shots fired at the local Waffle House. Police arrived to find the suspect was already on the ground with a bullet wound. The suspect was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

An investigating officer said, “It says something about firearms, for good people with firearms being in the right hands.” The division manager for the restaurant chain, said this was the first incident he could recall since it opened a year ago. “No one was hurt, which is the best part,” he said. “No one was injured — besides the suspect.”

The suspect later died at the hospital. The Coroner’s Office later identified him as 19-year-old . Davis was thought to be living with a friend in the downtown area.

The customer had a valid CCW permit. Police said they are not pressing any charges at this time. Despite this situation’s outcome, Waffle House will maintain their No Carry policy in all of their restaurants. I guess we will be finding better places to be at 5 AM in the morning.

Rob- I wrote a post called Please Regulate Guns Like Cars, and another one called Why we Don’t Trust Government With Our Guns. They are at Clash Daily, at Ammoland, and at my blog. That is at

Paul – I want to talk about the Please Regulate Guns Like Cars article. Rob, you have caused quite a stir with this post. I posted it on my personal Facebook page and if the results there are any indication a lot of people are talking about this. I consider myself a gun rights absolutist. I believe that there should be no regulations on any type of weaponry at all period. I don’t think that you wrote this as a advocacy piece saying that this is what we need to do, however if somehow everything in your article were to come to be the law in all of the US, as the anti rights crowd likes to say when they propose changes in gun laws. “It’s not going to solve all of the problems but it’s a good start”

John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money

To commemorate the state of Maine going constitutional carry, With the help of Rob Vance, the blog post graphically shows the growth of shall-issue and constitutional carry since 1986. It updates a post we did in 2011. At that time, approximately 2/3rds of the US population was living in states that had either shall-issue or constitutional carry. With Maine going constitutional carry and Illinois and Wisconsin adopting shall-issue CCW, this has now grown to almost 3/4ths of the US population.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- I carried at GRPC. I had an additional adventure on the way 中国体彩官方app because I had a gun. Here is a pro-tip for traveling with a gun. Carrying a gun only adds a few minutes to your travel time at the airline counter, but it could add one problem. You CAN NOT be late at the airport, not even by one minute, if you’re carrying a gun in your bag. There are hard cut-off times for checking a bag before your flight.

You can’t dash to the gate and then check your bag as you walk down the boarding ramp. We have to check our bags at the counter if we’re flying with a gun. I missed my flights so I had to rent a car and drive the last hundred miles.

One of the highlights of the trip was to meet AWR Hawkins. He has been writing a lot these days. I also got to talk with Jim Irvine. One of my disappointments was the people who did NOT go to GRPC. Come on, guys. Go to Tampa and stop making excuses. Really, I lost respect for some people who didn’t go to the conference.

You know we have to shout out a thank you. You know that, don’t you? Guys? Who do we owe a thank you?

I was on Mark Walter’s Armed American Radio and on Bill Frady’s Lock and Load Radio program a couple of times. We have to tell them that we’ll hold a seat in the front row for them in Tampa.

I’ve also stopped carrying concealed in Louisiana. I carried as a non-resident because I had nonresident reciprocity from my licenses in other states. Those licenses are not valid for carry in Louisiana now that I’m a Louisiana resident. I’m applying for my new permit and going unarmed.. unless I go to Texas, where I can carry again. Don’t you all feel safer?!

I made room reservations for nra convention in May.

I have some training coming up. I’ll be a line coach with Jeff and Robyn Street in Naples Florida on October 24th. They are having a The entry fee is $5, and they have loaner guns. If you’re on the South West coast of Florida and are free on Saturday, October 24th, you should look into it. Maybe you have a friend who talked about self-defense. Look for glock range day at step by step gun training in Naples, Florida.

John – I spent yesterday morning at the local gun show working the Grass Roots North Carolina booth. We got a number of people to sign our petition saying no more gun control at the Federal level. It will be delivered to our US Senators and Congressmen. While at the show, I bought enough ammo that Hillary Clinton would say I need a license to purchase – if she had her way.

I have talked to a number of people about attending the next GRPC in Tampa including fellow GRNC volunteers. I think this past GRPC in Phoenix had to rank as one of the best. I talked to more activists than ever before from a number of states. I credit the podcast for this as I was more visible and people sought me out. The other thing I enjoyed about this GRPC is that I finally got to meet Gary and Rachel in person. It’s one thing meeting a person over the Internet, it is another to meet them in person.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

I had to block a friend on Facebook for posting a name calling article to me. That really makes me sad, when someone reverts to name calling they are admitting they have lost the argument. Please try to avoid this in your conversations with the anti-gun crowd. This brings me to this post on Facebook: This is a post about the concealed carry school ban in California. The horrible things people are saying to each other, from both sides of the argument, are despicable. Please remember we are a polite society. Aside from that, someone posted “…no armed bystander has ever stopped a mass shooting. Ever.” and it got 8 thumbs up. There were also several posts about how a concealed carriers will just start wild west shoot outs with the bad guys and cause more carnage and kill innocents. I just want to say with no animus and only love in my heart, if you believe this you are flat out wrong.

I and most concealed carriers take carrying a self defense tool as seriously as most people do driving a car or surgeons do when operating on people. If you think me being in your proximity while I am carrying a concealed firearm puts you in more danger again you are just wrong.

Oh, yah GRPC…the water slide was awesome. Seriously, amazing, got to meet so many positive minded gun rights people that it recharged my energy to do whatever I can in my own small way to support gun rights. Take your time and watch all of the video that we recorded at GRPC, I promise something from the speakers or one of our exclusive interviews will make you say to yourself, “Wow, that was interesting or I hadn’t thought of that.” The listeners have been so helpful in the past I’m reaching out to them again. I have a student that is interested in switching to a shoulder holster for the winter and since it’s been over 20 years since I did bodyguard work and wore a shoulder holster under a suit I’m sure things have changed, so if anybody out there is currently using a shoulder holster please share your experiences with us at OnAir@ Sig P938

Paul – WOW what a GRPC in Phoenix. Had a great time while we were down there and an amazing trip back. Highlight of my time down there had to be Dave Workman giving us a little grief and then jumping on the mic after finding out we were on the air and coming through like a trooper. Also getting Alan Gottlieb (my personal hero in the gun rights arena) on the air.

Highlight of the trip down was a tie between meeting Laura Carno for lunch and taking US 160 just east of Pagosa Springs Colorado. Really experienced truckers that spend a lot of time in the west or southwest will know the reference to Wolf Creek Pass, made famous in the C.W. McCall song. It is a BEAUTIFUL drive… in a car… I can only imagine what a pain in the butt it is in a truck.

The Trip back was highlighted by a stop for breakfast at the Shooters Grill in Rifle colorado. A few things about this stop, first there isn’t any truck parking close by. the nearest truck parking is about a mile and a half away at a rest area. Secondly the food is REALLY good. I was expecting that they were getting business off of the gimmick of the staff open carrying, but I was pleasantly surprised! Yes, our waiter was open carrying (he carried an XD) and was super attentive to us. Another surprise about Rifle is that of the 3 cafe’s that were on Main street 2 were open for breakfast and of the 3, two had pro gun signage up. Also there were 2 ummm marijuana dispensaries and both had very clear no guns allowed signs.

Was on the GunBlog Variety Cast this past week, thanks to Sean for asking me to come on and doing a masterful job of editing my ramblings. We talked GRPC and why more people should be there.

Seg 2- News

UCC shooting

The members of the Polite Society Podcast would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and community of the nine victims off the Umpqua Community College tragedy. Trapped by madness and religious hatred and bigotry, the students and staff of UCC paid a fierce price in what the school administration had declared as a gun-free zone. Not even the school’s single security guard was allowed a firearm to preserve the fantasy of an unarmed oasis.

Obama didn’t wait for the bleeding to stop before he rushed before his cameras. In twelve minutes of rambling petulence, he expressed his frustrations with his six years of gun-control failures. Referring to himself 28 times, much more than twice a minute, he personalized the gun-control debate, holding it as a personal affront that his desires had not been granted. He trotted out the usual non-sensical “common sense” demands, backed by discredited studies, half-truths and outright lies. And he pledged to politicize the tragedy even further and push the usual gun banner’s dreams – NONE of which would have prevented the murders.

Obama targeted a unnamed, sinister, shadowy organization that was wholly responsible for frustrating his whims. His willing minions in the media were quick to take up the boogeyman fallacy. More than a few people who should have known better responded and demanded that the NRA be labeled as a terrorist organization. No mention was made of the millions of people that actually make up, support and guide the NRA.

It’s hard to believe this latest divisive distraction from his collapsing presidency will go anywhere legislatively. The Congress is in relatively friendly hands, even if Boehner and McConnell roll over once more for old times sake. The danger is in Obama’s lawless and unConstitutional executive actions. The one phone and pen action that has been floated will do absolutely nothing to affect violent crime, other than possibly criminalizing some wives for selling their late husband’s firearm collection.

What the Obama tantrum did is identify his desired end state for the gun “problem.” He favors the British and Australian models of gun control. Have no doubt those models mean draconian bans on nearly every firearm in private hands, door to door confiscation, mass destruction, and the centralization of all arms and power in the hands of the government. This, Mr President, we will resist.

It’s going to be a long, difficult wait until the Twentieth of January, 2017.

Comments: Okay – I’m outta here. The Princess is back. Thanks again

How’s the tone for the above rant? OK, Dan.

-john – I want to point out the killer passed background checks.

Paul -There were widespread protests in Roseburg, Oregon when the president came to visit. Roseburg is a deeply red working class town. The president and the media were widely resented as using the town’s tragedy for their personal profit.

Rob- I want to talk about gun control. Oregon has mandatory firearms registration. The murderer registered his firearms. Oregon has mandatory background checks. The murderer passed those background checks. The school campus is restricted as a gun free zone, and honest students were disarmed as the murderer went to a gun-free zone. Oregon is a gun control paradise, and the state is ranked 18th out of 50 by the Brady campaign because of its strict gun control laws. Obama had to speak out quickly. Not because he has a solution, but because his policies failed so miserably and he needed to distract the public from noticing his failure.

As to the news media, they have been horribly corrupt in their coverage. Here is a thought experiment for you. Do you think the media would be chanting for more “gun-free zones” if the murderers we’ve seen this last year were attacking newsrooms rather than schools? I think the newsies would start carrying at work. The CNN studios in New York had armed guards the day after the Charlie Hebdo murders in France. and they do today as well. They have armed security every day.. yet they say we should put our children in disarmed schools.. and blame the National Rifle Association even though the NRA has begged for armed school guards.

Open comment- If gun free zones are such a good idea, then start with the White House.

-John – I will say that some Republican presidential candidates responded appropriately. I want to mention Bobby Jindal and Ben Carson in particular. Jindal asked where the father was and Carson asked why more people didn’t fight back.

Rob- Did you hear where 22 people were stabbed when a 16-year-old boy went on a rampage. It happened in Pennsylvania.. in a gun-free school zone.

Hate to the NRA

Top strategists in the Democrat party have decided this is the year to attack gun owners. We’ve heard several outbursts from politicians condemning honorable gun owners and the National Rifle Association after this last public murder.

  • Hillary Clinton said “You know, the NRA’s position reminds me of negotiating with the Iranians or the Communists. You know there is no possible discussion and it’s for political purposes.”
  • President Obama asked America’s gun owners ..to think about whether your views are properly being represented by the organization that suggests it’s speaking for them.
  • Bernie Sanders said “we have got to come together on common sense approaches.. to ban semi-automatic assault weapons, guns which have no other purpose but to kill people.”
  • The Chicago Sun Times says every politician in washington should pass a law making it illegal to sell a gun online or at a gun show to anybody who is a convicted felon, repeat domestic abuser or seriously mentally ill. How unreasonable would that be?

Obviously the Chicago Sun Times and leading democrats don’t know existing firearms laws that already make those transfers illegal. They don’t know how mass murderers actually get their guns.. or they don’t care, because they only need to sell voters and advertisers, not solve a real problem.

Gary? open comment- The NRA is the only organization that gets blamed for things its members never do.

  • John – I don’t have a problem with neg. like the Iranians. They got the bomb and the USA got nada.

Rob- I called the NRA and asked them how NRA membership numbers look. In particular, I asked the membership office in Fairfax, Virginia if people were calling up and cancelling their memberships. They aren’t. The rate of is up, but they have noticed a particular surge in new lifetime memberships. Life memberships are usually a thousand dollars, but the NRA runs a promotion at each annual meeting where they drop the rates. You can become a life member, an endowment, patron or benefactor member.

A friend of mine in New York City is a photographer. She doesn’t own a gun, but after hearing the progressive politicians dump hate gun owners and the NRA, she became a member.

John- Now your friend gets daily e-mails from Fairfax.

CF- She doesn’t have to get them if she doesn’t want them. The NRA is EXTRAORDINARILY good about respecting their members desires. My Father bitched and moaned until I talked to the NRA for him. They immediately took him off all their mailing lists. This forced my Dad to find something else to bitch and moan about.

Do Non-Badged Citizens With Guns Ever Stop Mass Shootings?
In his televised fit only hours after the UCC murders, Obama dismissively asked if more guns actually reduce crime? , of the blog, answers definatively: !

Professor Volokh cites ten times where a civilian with a gun stopped a mass shooting. Of course, such instances are relatively rare, as the diseased mass killer usually chooses places where he will not be restrained in his sick fantasy. Areas like gun-free zones. As an example, the Aurora theater killer deliberately bypassed nine closer venues and choose a smaller movie house – because it was the one protected by a gun-free zone sign.

It seems the only logical way to reduce these mass killings is to eliminate gun-free zones.

Rob- I’ve written about this. John has written about the failures of gun control.

Gary- He references an article that talks about a dozen cases where a concealed carriers stopped mass shootings. It is good to see other journalists weigh in.

-John – I love what Mas calls GFZs – hunting preserves for psychopaths.

Cuomo Throws an Anti-Gun Tantrum

Speaking of petulant tantrums, New York Governor Cuomo threw a at the funeral of an ex-aide. His former aide and friend was shot at an early morning party in the Bronx. Instead of eulogizing his friend, the rabidly anti-gun Governor of New York City and Albany delivered a political anti-gun stump speech. He demanded the Democrats shut down the nation’s government until the gun control laws that are not working in New York are legislated nation-wide.

We certainly agree with Cuomo’s demand to shut down the non-essential portions of the federal government. However, the laws that the citizens of his state are roundly ignoring are nothing we could tolerate under our Constitutionally guaranteed Rights. Better try again, Stumpy.

Ronald Reagan Carried a Gun While President
Another President had very different ideas about and use. Brian Meltzer, author of the new book The President’s Shadow, reports that President Reagan carried a weapon in a bag or briefcase with him after the assassination attempt. A Secret Service agent revealed this info to Meltzer while he was researching the book.

Looks like the nickname Ronnie Raygun was a little bit closer to the truth than his detractors would have hoped. Good on you, Mr. President!

For any commentator: Sooooo, what gun do you think Reagan carried? A 1911? ;^)’ Old School Cool.

Paul- I remember an old interview where RR stated that he saved a woman from an attack from his room by pointing an unloaded handgun at the perpetrator. It was widely thought of as a made up story until NPR (seriously!) tracked down the nurse who corroborated the story.

CF-Yep, a 45 Colt single action, if I remember correctly. Definitely old school cool.

Felon Shoots and Paralyzes a Veteran Outside of St Louis Cardinal Stadium
This story strikes too close to 中国体彩官方app for one of our staff members. A 43 year old veteran celebrating his mother’s birthday at a St Louis Cardinals game was shot and paralyzed by a felon with a decades long rap sheet.

Chris Sanna and his girlfriend were walking back to their car after the Cardinals game when they were assaulted by two armed robbers. Despite giving the criminals everything they wanted, Sanna was shot in the back. The bullet punctured his liver and lung after destroying two vertebrae and his spinal cord. Doctors do not expect Sanna to walk again. There has been a recent spate of victims being shot after a robbery, perhaps related to the racial tensions in the city.

Several days later, police arrested Kilwa Jones for the assault. Jones was already in jail for beating the mother of his two children. Police found video of Jones using Sanna’s credit cards. They’ve also recovered a 9mm Hi-Point from the career criminal’s car.

The Cardinals do not allow any weapons in their stadium; that includes knives and pepper spray. They do back up their policy with metal detectors, but that works only inside the stadium walls. Fans must walk the downtown streets to get to get to their cars. The fans are known to be weaponless – and very attractive to criminals. From personal observation, city police and security guards are largely absent from the streets after the games. Fans disarmed – and abandoned – Cardinals games will be few and far between.

Rob- Gun free zone. fugitive from justice. Tell me again how the state will protect us from thugs.

Governor Brown Vetoes SB347
It’s a sad commentary on the state when “Flaky Jerry” Brown, Governor Moonbeam of California, is one of the more rational political voices.

, authored by Senator Hannah Beth Jackson, a member of the Barking Moonbat Caucus, would have eliminated Second Amendment rights for some minor firearm-related misdemeanors. For example, possession of a single round of ammunition on school grounds could have cost a citizen their firearm rights for ten years. Brown vetoed this bill and eight others, stating; “Each of these bills creates a new crime — usually by finding a novel way to characterize and criminalize conduct that is already proscribed …without commensurate benefit.”

Congratulations Governor Brown, for bringing a small amount of common sense to California.

Unfortunately, sanity was apparently only a fleeting acquaintance, as Jerry has . The bill, despite the experience of the UCC murders, prohibits licensed, law-abiding CCW holders from carrying firearms on school property. The law further criminalizes the simple possession of ammunition on campus, even without the firearm. Apparently, the politicians decided to Gun-Free Zone HARDER!

Rob- This is more of the culture war on gun owners in California. So the inadvertent possession of ammunition on school grounds was vetoed in one bill and then passed in the next bill. The democrat politicians of California are abusing gun owners while they build another school shooting. The California Attorney General said the legislature should show autopsy photographs of the murdered students in order to pass more gun laws. I like that. I want to show the pictures of the murdered students to show how their gun free school zones failed again and again.

John – I think Gov. Brown is trying to split the baby. He vetoes one anti-rights bill and then signs another. It doesn’t work that way. You are either pro-rights or anti-rights. There is really no in-between. The fact that SB 707 creates a privileged class – retired LEO – is wrong.

Professor leaves Texas for Australia

Here is a lighthearted take on the very somber subject of guns on campus. MIssouri and Texas passed laws allowing carry on campus. A local campus denied its staff the right to carry. In similar situations, some professors have written articles saying students are at a greater risk once licensed concealed carriers are disarmed. at the University of Missouri is suing the school for a civil rights violation by denying him the right to carry. A in Indiana is also fighting for that same right.

John- William A. Jacobson is a clinical professor of law at Cornell Law School. He also blogs at the Legal Insurrection website, and he came out against gun-free schools.

In contrast, one professor at the University of Texas at Austin said he will leave Texas and go to Australia to teach because of Texas carry laws. Another 390 faculty members from UT said they would not allow students with CHLs to carry in their classrooms. Given that few of their students are over 21, that is a hollow threat.

John- They could be 18 if they were in the military.

John –

Susan- Rachel had this to say about her fellow texans.

Maybe all the anti-gun professors will leave and get replaced by a friendlier faculty.

I hoped that someone who has the credentials and education to be a professor would understand some basic logic, including but not limited to the following points:

-We’ve already had campus carry for almost 2 decades, just not inside the school buildings

-this new law does not allow 18 year old freshmen to have any more access to guns, nor does it permit them to use guns to murder professors

-someone intent on shooting a professor out of anger is not super likely to go to the trouble, expense, and time of obtaining a chl.

Unfortunately, UT Austin professors are baffled by such simple arguments.

Rob- Most of these professors are elitists. A university president with either conviction or bravery would accept their resignation and say good riddance. If you’re carrying in class, it is not a sin to tell a lie to someone who does not deserve to know the truth.

Gun Quotes- Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Martin Luther King, Jr. I would add, do you love your family and community enough to protect them?

Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our guest (Name).

Campus Carry in Texas

Campus Carry goes into effect on August 1. It will allow CHL holders to carry concealed inside buildings on campus. Schools in Texas are currently deciding what their policies will be, since they are allowed to restrict carry in areas of their choosing. Our activists are speaking up to try to prevent carry restrictions.

Houston Deputy Shoots 中国体彩官方app Invader

A Houston, Texas criminal made a in the victim selection process. Behind Door #1 stood a Harris County Deputy Sheriff and his duty weapon. When his door was kicked down and the invader rushed into his 中国体彩官方app, the deputy fired. The suspect fled in a car likely driven by a second suspect. Because blood was found in the hallway, it is almost certain the Deputy wounded the invader. Area hospitals have been alerted to watch for a black male with a gunshot wound.

We note that the Deputy was in the same desperate situation that many normal 中国体彩官方appowners are finding themselves. He relied on his weapon to save his life, as many of the other 中国体彩官方appowners have done – and will do in the future. That’s certainly a common sense reason to own a firearm.

Three Against One Turns Out Poorly For 中国体彩官方app Invaders

A 中国体彩官方appowner turned the tables on – through the use of a firearm. A Dallas-Fort Worth 中国体彩官方appowner found himself under attack by three invaders. Their robbery and assault was going as planned until the 中国体彩官方appowner was able to grab a gun. Neighbors heard the five shots that hit all three invaders. The criminals ran from the house and escaped in a car driven by an accomplice. The driver abandoned the car at an intersection, and the three wounded robbers were arrested and taken to a hospital. The feckless fourth remains at large.

Rob- Point shooting was taught at an NRA safety class.

John- look for one handed point shooting Col. Rex Applegate.

Husband Shoots From Behind a Robber
As they say: Location, Location, Location. An elderly Indianapolis couple is together today because the husband used the advantages of position, stealth and a firearm to stop a .

The 75-year-old woman was at their property rental office when she found herself under the gun of a 27-year-old attacker. Her husband heard the commotion from the front office, entered the room from behind the attacker and saw the gun pointed at his wife’s head. The man describes his fear for her life and shooting into the robber’s back. When the criminal got up and pointed his gun again, the elderly man fired twice more. Those shots struck the thief in the head. The attacker is in critical condition in a local hospital. He has a long rap sheet with several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Police will not charge the elderly man. A spokesman stated that if someone comes into your 中国体彩官方app and you’re in imminent fear of danger for your life, you have a right to protect yourself.

In such a deadly situation, an armed citizen is under no obligation to warn the attacker, nor chivalrously face him. The elderly man was completely justified in shooting the attacker in the back without warning. He rightly used every advantage he had in that deadly situation.

However, most firearm instructors advise to shoot until the threat stops. Allowing the criminal to regain his feet and point the gun again is not a good strategy. Many self defense instructors also believe that with a finger on the gun’s trigger, a central nervous system hit is best. For immediate incapacitation, without the reflexive tightening of the trigger finger, a shot to the brainstem, the , is recommended. However, the citizen must be able to make the shot to a racquet ball sized target at the base of the brain. Education, training and practice are a must.

This episode is just one more common sense reason to have a gun — and to know how to use it.

Another Craigslist Ambush

Police say at least after a Craigslist ambush was foiled by an intended victim.
A father and son from Grand Rapids drove into Battle Creek, Michigan to buy a car. When they arrived, they were jumped by three robbers. The son, a concealed carry license holder, fired twice, hitting two of the alleged attackers. The third criminal is still on the loose. Because of the son’s action, neither father nor son were injured.

It should come as no surprise that people with cash or valuables meeting anonymous strangers at an unfamiliar location are in a risky situation. Buyers and sellers should both take precautions. Many police departments are setting up Craigslist Transaction Zones outside of their stations. We urge our listeners to stay careful, observant, and prepared.

Don’t Torque Off The Old Guy

“I wanted to . I really wanted to shoot him”; said Old Guy Robert Hamm, who had his 10 AM nap interrupted by a man carrying an armful of his tools. “I just pointed the gun at him and told him I’d blow him in two if he moved.” The very expressive Old Guy made the thief lie on the floor until the Carter County, Kentucky Sheriff’s Department arrived. Hamm said he’d known the suspect from birth and he has a reputation for this sort of thing.

Unfortunately, the 75-year-old might get his shot, as the 中国体彩官方app-invader is still at large. The suspect was so intoxicated from pills and booze that he was taken to a hospital to detox. A day or so later, the thief checked himself out of the hospital — and disappeared. Hamm felt it’s inexcusable that a man who broke into his 中国体彩官方app carrying a knife was given a chance to walk away. “It made me madder than hell.” The Old Guy had predicted the legal system would let the burglar off lightly. “I’ve seen where they’ve turned people loose who’ve done it four or five times,” he said. Officials say the burglar could be held in contempt of court (ooooo!) since he didn’t turn himself in.

Hamm’s not overly concerned about a return visit. The Old Guy said, “I wish he would. I would finish the job.” The thief should know that you just Don’t Torque-Off The Old Guys. And you certainly don’t interrupt their naps.

Subject: Guns in the cold

Apologies for the delay in sending this in. You had a guest on recently discussing the effects of extreme cold on the functioning of semiautomatic weapons. Immediately it made me remember the exploits of my “cousins” back in Finland during the Winter War with Russia at the outset of WW2. The winter of 39 was one of the coldest on record, so cold that the Baltic Sea froze ships in place. The Finns had to change how they handled the cleaning of their guns, adding gasoline to their gun oil for their rifles, mainly Mosin Nagants. For automatics and their artillery they used a mix of alcohol and glycerine to avoid the freeze. I’ll attach an image from William Trotters book Frozen Hell (an amazing read FYI).

As a side note, this would have been the practice of Simo Hyha during the war. Hyha is by far the highest numbered sniper in World history, especially confounding when you consider the short time span of his engagement. Also his weapon of choice was an iron sighted Mosin, scopes raised his head too high.

Love the show, keep it up.

Email from Bud with the Subject line Crazy Gun Studies

I happen to run across this interview today and couldn’t believe what this professor was stating. I immediately posted it on Facebook, with a detailed overview and the links, to show to my pro-rights friends and followers. I couldn’t locate it on Facebook, so I reposted it later in the day. I think that I will post it daily and in different areas of Facebook and other social media sites to ensure that it is seen by many.

Here is my posting

Is anyone buying what this “Professor” is selling when it comes to CHL’s, guns and crime rates? “There isn’t any correlation between concealed handgun license holders and crime” according to the professor and his colleagues at Texas A&M. He also describes how they collected and formulated their data, which is drastically different than normal research performed by others. You can listen to a short interview that the professor gave on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at.

Texas A&M Regents Professor Emeritus Dr. Charles Phillips states that he was not surprised by their findings. He said a couple of things during this short interview that leads me to believe that he has an agenda in obtaining his results. One is he states that “according to the NRA, if you don’t carry a weapon, you are a CHUMP”. And secondly, “the NRA’s definition of a victim is someone who doesn’t own a gun.” I’ve never heard anyone from the NRA state this and I’ve never seen it written on their website. Maybe the Dr. can point this out or provide a link where I can find this information?

He states that their research shows that the number of CHL holders in Texas counties has a direct correlation with the number of firearm dealers in that county, but nothing due to crime rates. CHL holders are very seldom convicted of crimes, but when they do happen they are big time serious crimes. He references previous studies that he or Texas A&M have done named “When CHL Holders Break Bad”. In these studies they found:

  • There are very few convictions or occurrences of crimes by CHL holders
  • They are violent crimes
  • A firearm is usually involved
  • There is a death

He also states that “easy access to a means of deadly force means that it is likely to be used.”

Dr. Phillips cites 3 recent studies conducted by the American Journal of Public Health which conclude that more guns (he doesn’t state whether legal or illegal, and I have not read them yet) equal:

  • More police officers are killed
  • Higher rates of young male suicides
  • Guns are more likely to be used by, or on, another occupant of the 中国体彩官方app, rather than to protect you from an outsider or stranger (criminal).

The Dr. provides the following advice – “If you are thinking of buying a firearm for 中国体彩官方app defense, consider the following:

  • Guns in households are dangerous
  • It is more likely that GUN suicides will occur
  • Don’t believe that you are going to save yourself from, or during, a criminal encounter.”

Just for the record, I am biased on gun ownership, CHL holders and I’m a lifetime member of the NRA.

I hope that you guys can create a research topic on firearm studies and results in a near future podcast. I would really like to hear someone have Dr. Phillips on their show to challenge him on his research tactics and conclusions. Maybe having Dr. John Lott on the show to discuss specific issues with the way that studies such as this one is slanted for certain results would also be very enlightening? We all hear of different studies, with major differences in their results and are often left wondering who is right.

Keep up the good work on the Polite Society podcast. I look forward to listening to it each week and I have even gone back and listened to the older podcasts to hear topics of the times and the fine DGU stories.

Thank you,

-John – Believe or not, I actually know Charles Phillips. Or did. He was an asst prof of political science at UNC-Chapel Hill when I was in grad school. He got there in about 1981 and left in 1987 when he didn’t get tenure. He was one of the young liberal professors. I didn’t know he had become a prof of public health.

Rob- I’ve read the studies. They count a criminal bringing a gun on your property as if it was your gun… and therefore you had a gun on premises.

Jacob emailed us a video of a hero who stepped in and ended up losing his life trying to help rescue a woman being threatened by a man with a gun

This guy is a hero. Full stop. He made a risky move when he saw an opportunity, and it could have turned out very poorly, but I find it hard to fault a man who is so clearly willing to give his life for a stranger. He gets shot, mortally wounded, and continues fighting to subdue the attacker and save the victim. I hesitate to call him a victim in return, because I doubt he would want that – I think he knew the trade he was making and went in knowing he might not come out. I think it really drives 中国体彩官方app what Paul always says – weapons and tactical advantages might make defending yourself easier, but the fight is never over as long as you’re conscious and willing to fight back.

William also emailed us.

Greetings All,

I’d sent this weeks ago but I am a world class master procrastinator. I’ll reference several shows.

You had referenced the wonderful NY trigger and kind of equated it to that of a double action revolver.

While that can be true it really depends on the revolver, specially the time frame of it’s design and build. My wife has an old Webley revolver made back in the early 1900’s. It was carried by her grandfather who served as a sheriff somewhere in West Texas. We don’t shoot it but the trigger pull is such that I’m tempted to use two fingers when I play with it. (Not very often due to its on hammer firing pin.) I suspect that is very close to the NY trigger. I hear the new S&W J-frames are as bad but haven’t pulled the trigger on one to see. On the other hand the K-frames made back in the 50’s and 60’s when the police were using them were very nice. Maybe 7 to 8 pounds, smooth and were a joy to shoot, if you used proper trigger technique. Still kicking myself for selling one that I had. And while python’s stack a bit differently I’ve heard few complaints about their triggers.

Next topic. Several time you, and those on other podcasts, seem to make a distinction between the police and civilians. Unless a police officer is also a member of the military they are also civilians. While that is nitpicking word usage we really need to be careful as those opposed to our views will use anything they can against us. Perhaps “private citizen” would be a better term to use for distinction.

Last topic for this email is the apparent misconception with regard to using a gun to protect property in Texas. In spite of what has been said Texans can no more use guns just to protect property than anyone else. We do however have a bit more leeway. As it was explained to me back when I took a concealed carry class in the 90’s. The teacher was a police officer and what he said summarized and in my words.

If I see someone in my workshop I can go out and confront him. However unless he has a weapon, picks up something to use as such, or makes a furtive movement I can’t just shoot him. I can however have a gun in my hand. At night things are a bit different because I can’t see as well. Does he have a weapon I’m not seeing? What during the day time might look innocent might look like a dangerous furtive motion at night. Is someone else hiding in the darkness. It all comes down to whether we think we are in mortal danger.

>From past episodes I know you will say that you shouldn’t go out and confront them. While that may be true it is a personal decision and realize that when people live in rural areas things are a bit different. That 911 call which may take 10 long minutes in town can take hours in the country中国体彩官方app. The last time I needed an officer’s assistance they had to patch me through to the responding officer so I could talk him in. Couldn’t find the place.

Either way, I for one, don’t want to just sit and watch while someone carries off all my stuff. I guess it boils down to the feeling that if something is worth having it is worth fighting for. It is a decision I’d just have to make at the time and the situation. If there is a team, they can take what they want. My life isn’t worth the risk.

Is a human life worth my table saw? I don’t know. Is the bad guy really human or a predatory animal? While legally human you have to wonder what will he do on his next job? I think we all would do what was necessary to stop him if he was stealing a firearm. It’s a very complex issue with lots of what ifs.

Enjoy your show. Keep up the good work or I’ll cut what I pay for your show. 8->

Rob- badged and unbadged civilians

Paul: Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Rob- I posted the links to the Gun Rights Policy Conference along with a list of the speakers. I did that for each of the three segments we recorded. I also wrote up a review of the conference.

After the recent murders in Oregon, we’ve heard the howls for more gun control. The politicians and news media got me thinking, and I asked myself if gun control works. We know it doesn’t work in schools, but I wondered if I was missing something, so I looked at the data from each of the 50 states. I put the states in order based on their level of gun control, and then looked at the FBI data for the crime rates in each state. I printed the data out as a graph so anyone can see it. After looking at the results, I can say that gun control does not reduce violent crime. The article is called “Does Gun Control Work” I’ve seen several other authors write similar articles, so it is a good time to study that question.

This may sound simplistic to our long time listeners, but most people have not studied these issues at all. They think violent crime has increased when violent crime has fallen since the early 1990s. I want to thank our listeners for reading past the headlines and staying informed.

In another article I said gun-free zones and fatherless boys are killing us. That was in the article called

My articles are up at Ammoland and Clash Daily. After the shooting in Oregon, I noticed I had 55 entries in my category called Public Violence. You can find all of them on my blog at

John, tell us what’s new at your blog

I’ve done a number of posts since GRPC . Dr. Carson said that if the Jews had not been disarmed it could have made a difference with regard to the Holocaust. He was correct and the mainstream media piled on trying to discredit his statements. They are trying to make out like he is a kook and trigger happy. Frankly, they are afraid of the truth. One need only listen to our friends in JPFO and read the writings of Stephen Halbrook to know that.

I will have an important post coming out on the 15th. It will be called Every Picture Tells A Story, Part 3. It will be in honor of Maine going live with Constitutional Carry on that day. It graphically shows the growth of freedom from 1986 through 2014.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

John – I am still trying to get over this crud. However, I have brought in the big guns to clear it up before I leave for Phoenix – the high-powered cough syrup that pharmacists keep in a safe. Seems to be working. I am also working on what I plan to say in my presentation at GRPC. As the only person coming from new media, I see myself as representing all of us who blog or podcast. I only have five minutes and that can be a lot of time or not enough. I’m open to suggestions.

Rob- Got my standard capacity magazines. Nothing else.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

Paul – Sorry that I wasn’t on last weekend’s show, and sorry that it took so long to get the episode out. What usually releases Sunday evening didn’t release until six days later on Saturday afternoon. On Friday of last week I got the call that I needed to take a California run for a driver that couldn’t make the run that night. So on Sunday while everyone else was recording I was driving to make a Monday drop. After we finish tonight I get to tear down the studio and pack it up as we leave on Tuesday afternoon to start the drive to Phoenix.

Seg 2- News

Poll show Registered Voters Resist Additional Gun Laws

This had to have hurt: A shows that the nation’s registered voters are increasingly becoming concerned with gun rights as well as other internal issues. A significant majority of us now believe that gun laws are about right or too restrictive. The recent poll showed a loss of faith in gun control, as 56 percent of registered voters doubted more gun control “would be able to prevent those with mental health problems from buying guns” and 58 percent doubted more laws “would keep guns out of the hands of convicted criminals.”

(here, this will make it feel better.)

The above findings are a significant improvement over prior years. The difference is the ongoing, broad-based efforts of communication and education. Gun rights leaders, gun owners and activists, like our listeners should be proud of their success. And mindful that there’s still so much to be done.

John – I think people are seeing more restrictive gun laws don’t stop anything.

California Residents: “Attention Scum, You Loot We Shoot.”

When an out of control brush fire forced residents of to flee, they left behind a pointed message: “Attention Scum, You Loot – We Shoot.” There have been many reports of looting with the 70,000 acre wildfire. Residents who were able to stay behind will be keeping their eyes open.

Only media, first responders, and those authorized by law enforcement are allowed to enter the area. However, tech-savvy looters are using social media to locate evacuated 中国体彩官方apps. Two were arrested with burned-out safes in their vehicle. When things get hot, it’s comforting to have some way of protecting yourself from those all too willing to take advantage of a crisis.

The Obama Administration Is Doing Something Good On Guns
It’s probably just one more screw-up, but it does look like the Obama administration Is doing . The U.S. Department of Justice granted $2.4 million for firearm-safety education and free gun locks through NSSF’s program.

Show friend Miguel Gonzalez the antis immediately lose their minds. The misnamed gun-banning group Committee to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) took to Twitter to write a frothing damnation of the grant. They ignored the long running successes of Project ChildSafe and the NRA’s Eddie Eagle to complain about the NSSF. Apparently, the CSGV’s hatred of their blood enemy overwhelms their concern for the children. Shame on them.

We haven’t been able to say this in a very long time, but Good on the Obama administration.

John – CSGV believes that the state should have the monopoly on violence.

Appeals Court Strikes Down Some DC Gun Laws

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled 2-1 that the city of The city had claimed that honest gun owners only needed to register one gun a month. The judge said “the suggestion that a gun trafficker would bring fewer guns into the District because he could not register more than one per month there lacks the support of experience and of common sense.” This lawsuit was brought by Dick Heller, the same human rights advocate who was the title plaintiff in the original DC VS Heller case. The court also said gun owners cannot be forced to re-register their firearms every three years, and the city cannot demand gun owners bring their guns to city hall, or pass a test on firearms laws.

Unfortunately, the court upheld other parts of the law, such as requiring that rifles and shotguns must be registered along with handguns. The ruling upheld that gun owners pay certain fees, complete a firearms safety training course, and be fingerprinted and photographed.

But wait.. there is more and we’ve saved the best news for last. DC copied its oppressive firearms laws from the laws in New York City and Maryland. That means we have regulations in New York and Maryland that have been found to be illegal in Washington, DC. A federal district court will have to decide who is correct.

Rob- bullets- re I wonder about the bullets outlawed in DC. was found guilty of “attempted possession of unlawful ammunition” for having antique replica muzzleloader bullets. Because they called it attempted possession, Witaschek was denied a jury trial. DC says you can only have ammunition for guns you register. DC also says you don’t have to register muzzle loading rifles, but you can still be convicted of owning muzzle loading ammunition. That is insane bigotry against gun owners. Anyone heard of a criminal using a muzzleloading firearm in the last hundred years?

DC still has their special need requirement before citizens can get a carry permit. The city will be back in court.

John – I think the ruling Heller II should be helpful in the Wynn case or so I hear.

Papa John’s Pizza Stands By Employe Who Used a Gun

Here something we can all sink our teeth into: A Decatur, Georgia Papa John’s Pizza franchise will stand behind their delivery driver who used a gun to defend her life. While Papa John’s prohibits their employees from carrying a gun, the woman will not be fired, but moved to another position within the firm.

The woman’s Sunday night pizza delivery turned into a violent ambush. A thug pulled the driver from her car while another got behind the wheel. She was slammed to the ground and things were looking bleak for her. However, the woman had a pistol in her pocket; she fired from the ground, striking Donquaz Stevenson, 24, in the face. Stevenson was captured hiding in a backyard, abandoned by his confederate escaping in the woman’s car. Authorities said the woman was protecting her life and there will be no charges.

The job of delivery driver is one of the most dangerous in the States. We applaud the company’s recognition that the drivers do not have to die for Papa John.

Mmmmmm, Papa John’s Pizza

John – While I’m not a fan of Papa John’s pizza I may have to reconsider.

You don’t have to take a bullet for your boss

The Utah Supreme Court said Walmart fired six employees because they fought back against threatening customers. Store policy says employees must withdraw when threatened. The court said that employees could be safer if the defended themselves. Those situations included cases where they could not retreat or if they were immediately threatened with injury or death. After the court’s ruling, those employees who sued for their jobs will have their case go to trial.

Rob- Walmart said everyone is safer if employees retreat. They judge said everyone is safer if employees use their judgement and management does not second guess them.

Chicago mocked in the satire site “The Onion”

We talked about Chicago last week, the city where jobs, gun rights and honest citizens go to die? Chicago’s reputation is so bad that the city was mocked at the online satire site

Quote “Chicago officials unveiled Monday the city’s new gun-sharing service, “QuikShot,” which allows individuals to check out a loaded firearm for short periods of time.

The municipal initiative, through which users can rent semi-automatic pistols, shotguns and rifles at more than 250 self-service kiosks, has reportedly been designed to make firepower easily available to residents and tourists alike nearly everywhere within the city limits.”

Thanks to listener Greg for sending in the link.

Rob- I know it is only average satire, but I think a business like that has possibilities in free america.

The Donald on Guns

We’re seeing position papers come out from the presidential candidates. Trump posted his position on guns this week.

Enforce laws on the books and put criminals in jail.

Stop ignoring mental illness and fix our broken mental health system.

Defend the rights of law abiding gun owners and stop gun bans and magazine bans.

Fix NICS so states report criminals and the mentally ill.

Form a national right to concealed carry.

Allow the military to carry on base.

Rob- I didn’t know The Donald was a listener to our podcast.

Segment 3 Interviews

Lance Reeter from

I’m talking to Lance Reeter from San Diego, California. Lance started TheShootersHangout.com It is a regional online clearing house of shooting activities. Lance also includes news articles of interest to most shooters.

Lance, how is it being a gun owner in Southern California.

Here in Krazyfornia gun owners have to deal with a lot of things that most of the rest of the country中国体彩官方app do not have to deal with.

Things such as:

Not having a concealed weapon permit in California?

Being limited to 10 rounds in your handgun AND your rifle?

Being required to have an asinine bullet button on your rifle?

Not being able to own a short-barreled rifle for 中国体彩官方app protection?

Being limited to buying only handguns on an approved CA roster?

Why is it that the rest of the country中国体彩官方app doesn’t have to worry about these backwards things, but here in Krazyfornia our gun rights are severely limited!

The reason is that individually we have no power against liberal politicians. By myself I cant change things, by yourself you cant change things. Together we can change everything!

So what sort of things have you done to change the firearms culture in San Diego?

We do that the same way Colorado did it, by unseating and ending the careers of anti-2nd Amendment politicians! Thus putting career ending fear into all other politicians who even THINK about taking away the peoples gun rights!

We cannot sit and simply HOPE that things will get better. That tactic only results in more gun rights being taken away.

We cannot sit and HOPE someone else will change things for us, we get the same results.

We all have to work together, and together it is not hard work.

Usually all that it takes to make major changes is to shoot off an email or fax when a gun right bill is up for a vote. Or vote for the right candidate in a political race. Just that easy!

But we all have to be on the same page so that you know that an email needs to be sent out, or a certain candidate needs your vote.

That is where gun rights organizations like Gun Owners of California come in. They are a force multiplier buy leveraging the power of hundreds of thousands of gun owners in California. Also media organizations like the news site TheShootersHangout.com work hard to keep the gun owning public informed and educated on important issues.

On August 25th the shooting community came out to meet both of these organizations at a free social event 2nd Amendment Night!

They dont ask a lot from anyone, but if every gun owner is willing to carry one small cup of water then we can flood the political landscape in Krazyfornia and get our gun rights back!

Tuesday, August 25th the free news site TheShootersHangout.com and gun rights organization Gun Owners of California hosted a 2nd Amendment Night at a large microbrewery in San Diego county.

-There were drink specials, woodfired pizzas and BBQ.

-They also set up a mini gun show set up with 25 local firearms businesses setting up display tables, showing the products and services they provide.

400 people showed up for this event, including almost a dozen pro 2nd Amendment politicians.

This event was all about bringing the shooting community together to form a cohesive and powerful coalition that will be successful in restoring Californias gun rights. This coalition being made up of the shooting enthusiasts, manufacturers, retailers, instructors, gun rights organizations, the media, and pro 2nd Amendment politicians.

What we didn’t know was that the woman had the shooting to plead for the police. She was told she would have to wait her turn. She huddled in fear until the violent felon finally found her. Fortunately, she had a firearm, and she was able to defend herself when her government would not.

When seconds count… the cops could be an hour, or a lifetime, away.

John – Unlike the story we covered from Pope Valley, Detroit isn’t a rural area. It is a major US city.

Paul- young lady from Oklahoma took an hour as well but she was in VERY rural Oklahoma

Gary –

Sometimes There’s a High Cost For Defending The Family

Nothing is certain in this life. Sometimes self-defense comes at a . The very same price that not defending oneself might incur. A Houston area man paid the ultimate price to protect the lives of his wife and daughter. A price that all who carry concealed or keep a weapon for 中国体彩官方app defense should consider.

A family’s trip to a Houston ice cream parlor was interrupted by an armed robber. The felon jumped into the vehicle and pointed a gun at the wife demanding “everything you have.” The husband struggled with the robber, enabling his wife to escape. However, their two year old daughter was still in the car, requiring the father to continue the struggle. The fight eventually went to guns, and both the father and the crook were mortally wounded. However, in the end, the daughter and wife were unhurt.

We salute the young man. The epitaph “Died Defending His Family” is a harsh and bitter one, but very honorable.

High Cost For Defending A Business Incorrectly

There can also be a price for doing things wrong. An Albuquerque, New Mexico used car dealership owner will likely pay a high price for . He shot a burglar — when maybe he shouldn’t have.

Jorge Mateo-Segura was tired of his dealership being burglarized. The police didn’t seem to do anything. So when the alarm went off once again, he told the alarm company not to send police and that he’d check it out himself.

Mateo-Segura found Joe Gutierrez breaking into cars at the dealership. The owner said he thought Gutierrez was reaching for a gun and he shot him. As part of their investigation, the police arrested Gutierrez, who had an outstanding warrant for breaking and entering. Mateo-Segura was cuffed for assault with a deadly weapon and battery with great bodily harm, citing his inconsistent and changing story. Gutierrez, who admitted to breaking into the cars, has filed a criminal complaint against the owner, saying he was running away when he was shot. A civil complaint is sure to follow.

Self-defense law is clear, the victim cannot take the law into his own hands. If life is not endangered, the victim cannot employ deadly force. In many jurisdictions, the victim cannot be the aggressor. So if the criminal is running away, it’s Vaya con Dios. If Mr Mateo-Segura had taken some self-defense training, this would have been explained in significant detail. Enough, perhaps, to prevent him from throwing his life away.

Gary –

John – Very rarely does state law allow you to use deadly force to defend property. The case of Joe Horn in Pasadena TX is the exception.

Pacifist Kills a 中国体彩官方app Invader

Reality came a-knockin’ in the for a 59 year old New Mexico man. The avowed pacifist had his dog pepper-sprayed and a shot fired at him. He used his cane to knock the gun from the invader’s hand. And used that gun to fire the fatal shot into the suspect.

Paid liar… excuse me, lawyer Richard Cravens said his client suffered a broken arm and cuts to his face. Other reports have the 中国体彩官方appowner’s injuries as minor. My client is completely traumatized, Cravens said. He’s a pacifist and was forced to deal with an extremely violent situation. As author Robert observed, “

By the way, police found found a large amount of cash and more than 200 marijuana plants in the 中国体彩官方app. No mention was made of a Jolly Roger.

Five to One Odds
is horrendous odds, but it really helps if your opponents are Floridians. Five proto 中国体彩官方app-invaders staged themselves in a stairwell outside the target apartment. However, they did so with enough hubbub to attract the attention of the designated victim. So when they finally got organized and bum-rushed the door, they ran right down the barrel of a gun. The 18 year old female ringleader and three of her accomplices are in jail, charged with 中国体彩官方app-invasion with a firearm. Their point man is cooling his heels – permanently. The survivors will likely be charged with the felony murder of their accomplice

The Stupid is Strong With NBC

In our DGUs, much of our discussion is based on the broad range of advice from leading self-defense thinkers, authors and instructors. They’re people with literally centuries of cumulative experience; Mas Ayoob, Kathy Jackson, Michael Bane, Andrew Branca, etc. We try to stay well within the accepted span of the opinions of people who know the best.

NBC’s Today Show apparently felt none of these obligations to their viewers. In a September 8th scare piece on 中国体彩官方app invasions, contributor Jeff Rossen spoke with William Zeins, a retired NYPD detective and hostage negotiator. How his 22 years as a negotiator made him an expert on 中国体彩官方app invasions was never explained. Zeins has almost no Google or web presence, nor any books or articles we could find. He does, however, have a bullet-proof hair-spray pompadour.

Zeins’ advice runs counter to much of the accepted advice for 中国体彩官方app invasions. Among other things, Zeins wants the victims to treat the invaders like royalty, sleep with bedroom doors open, run throughout the house gathering the family, and keep a can of wasp spray by the bed. There was no mention of training, awareness, on hardening the perimeter of the house, dealing with strangers at the door, hunkering down in defensible spaces, nor any any active defense with firearms or other weapons; with the exception of the long-discredited wasp spray.

In our opinion, The Today Show has put their viewers at significant risk with their poor advice. Bad show, NBC. Get professional trained people, and don’t listen to the mainstream media: they don’t know what they’re babbling about — and they likely don’t care.

John – Too bad another former NYPD officer has passed away. I doubt Jim Cirillo would have given the same advice.

Paul: Rob, what did you write this week at ?

Rob- I posted the second second part of a series on the virtue of self-defense. Society often treats self-defense as a right we are barely willing to tolerate. It should be more. I have some ideas about what we can do today if we really value life and the virtue of self-defense.

First, if self-defense were a virtue, then a private school would include self-defense as a required element in the school curriculum. If we’re going to value human life then we need to children to defend theirs.

The second point is that several anti-gun states have passed pre-emption laws so bigoted politicians can pass local gun-prohibition. Those same laws could allow pro-rights politicians to advance the right of self-defense.. for example, by issuing non-resident permits.

There is lots more. The series is called It has been shared about 600 times on facebook. You can find my articles at Clash Daily, at Ammoland, and at my Slowfacts blog. That website is

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

John- Paul is on the road earning a living today.

Not much from me this week. If my voice sounds weird, it is. I’ve been battling some viral thing that had me coughing and hacking. By Friday, I had lost my voice. I’ve been resting my voice since then so that I could be on the podcast today.

Rachel- went out to Davilla and shot some yesterday…it was harder than I thought to be there shooting. This morning I ran a 5k. So now hopefully I am ready for the run ‘n’ gun in Pecos this weekend!

Gary –

What training do you have coming up?

Rob- Made airline reservations to Phoenix. Wrote to California Governor Jerry Brown and asked him to veto the anti-gun bills on his desk. I also was hit in the face with a stick a few seconds after I took off my safety glasses. Be careful.

I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Seg 2- News

-Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun advocacy group Everytown for America held a small rally in Washington D.C. last week. They gathered in front of the Capitol Building. The few demonstrators said they wanted to shame Congress into passing more firearms prohibition. Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe Never letting the truth get in the way of a useful lie, McAuliffe’s claimed that people “can be armed” where he was standing on the Capitol grounds in Washington D.C. That is a lie. First, it is nearly impossible for law abiding civilians to be legally armed in Washington D.C. Second, it is illegal for civilians to be armed at the Capitol.

Virginia Governor McAuliffe also said that booths at Virginia gun shows openly advertise with signs that say “no background checks.” McAuliffe also implied that background checks are non-existent in Virginia. The man lies boldly, if not well. Firearms purchases in Virginia require two forms of identification AND lengthy ATF paperwork including a background check with the FBI. Someone must have paid the Governor to advertise the myth of the gun show loophole.

McAuliffe isn’t alone in his hypocrisy. Shannon Watts, founder of Bloomberg’s Moms Demand Action holds an extremely rare carry permit issued by the City and County of San Francisco. She is also rumored to have asked for deputization from the US Marshals Service. That would give her nationwide carry privileges. That request was denied by the US Department of Justice.

-We have some moms on our side too. Dana Loesch starred in saying SHE is an armed mom. The video, besides being well produced public relations advertising, also reminds us that women are the fastest growing segment of gun owners, and the media is desperate to ignore their story. Why would journalists ignore that women are one of the fastest growing segments of the concealed carry community. Listen to the video now.

(insert MP3 clip of advertisement audio from Dropbox)

John – it hit a nerve with Shannon Watts.

Women and minorities are gun culture 2.0.. and the best kept secret of 2015.

Rob- Chicago’s highest concentration of permits is in the That is on the city’s southeast side with a population made up of 55 percent blacks and 34 percent Hispanics. That is further evidence that women and minorities are providing their own security.

Rachel- I hear they finally put in an outdoor gun range in Northern Illinois.

Gary- I have to look into that. What is it called?

Rachel- it is open all night long, 24 – 7.. and it is called Chicago.

Gary- You’re picking on my city.

Rachel- Too bad you can’t all be from Texas.

-Speaking of Texas, The New York City police department had its first It was a surprise to the journalists that they have joined clergy, school children, school teachers, and mall crawlers on the list of mass shooting targets. To raise their concern further, mass murderers and terrorists are increasingly sophisticated in their planning and their media strategy. For some murderers, providing publicity before, during and after the attack is just as important as pulling the trigger. The murderers study the success and failure of other murderers.

A brochure from the active shooter seminar suggested that office workers “Attempt to quickly overpower the individual with force in the most violent manner possible.” Their options are limited since they are merely disarmed civilians working in “gun-free” New York City.

One journalists asked if the police considered the Good Guy With a Gun scenario when developing their active shooter protocols. Deputy Police Commissioner John Miller replied with a flat no. Quote- “It’s not like Texas where two terrorists can show up to an art show with two AK-47s and multiple magazines and still be outgunned. I love that about Texas.” Close quote.

Rachel- I told ya that Y’all can’t be Texas.

John- I read the story. The reporter let their anti-self-defense bias show. I like the question that Mark Walter’s asks. “If you were in a violent murder scene, would you want to be disarmed or have a gun?” The honest journalists say they want a gun. The dishonest ones say they want to be disarmed.

-All of us can’t be Texas, but we can come very close. A small town in southern Oklahoma has a thoughtful school superintendent. First, they take three phases of instruction totalling 63 hours.

Instruction began with unarmed security procedures, rules and regulations. In short, how to fill out reports. Each of the volunteers provide their own firearms while the school district pays for their training.

High School Principal Gary Labeth said, “A school shooting situation, even in a small town like Wilson, is over by the time the police department arrives. A tactical team would take 15 minutes coming out of Ardmore. Arming staff is just another level of protection.”

School Superintendent Smith said, “Should the unthinkable happen, smaller schools without resource officers are left to fend for themselves as first responders speed toward the scene. Putting concealed weapons in administrators’ possession allows us to provide a more effective line of resistance until help arrives. I hope we never have to use it. I hope it’s a deterrent. That being said, when those kids are here, they are ours and I will do anything to protect them.”

Rachel- It sounds like those children are in good hands. I’m surprised they mentioned the concealed carriers by name.

Gary- Yeah, I would have left them anonymous.

-Marines and sailors were attacked in Chattanooga this July. The Pentagon recently decided against arming military recruiters. Instead of guns, Remember that the last islamic terrorist killed four Marines and a sailor. The terrorist had hundreds of rounds of ammo and could have killed dozens more service members or civilians. The terrorist only stopped when police and a Navy commander who was carrying his unauthorized sidearm at the time, finally fired back and killed him.

Quoting Marine Corps Commanding General Mark Brilakis, “Recruiters showing up armed is not going to make either educators or parents comfortable.” The Pentagon will instead protect recruiters from future ambushes by training them to take cover or evacuate in the event of an attack.”

Rob- Really? Think about it. If your son or daughter were going to join the military, would you be comfortable knowing that the military leadership of this country中国体彩官方app did not think your child’s life was worth defending? If they won’t defend your child here at 中国体彩官方app, how can you trust them to protect your child overseas?

John – What happened to every Marine a rifleman?

-A recall campaign against Oregon state Senator Floyd Prozanski survived one election-law complaint. The recall was launched after the Eugene Democrat sponsored a bill requiring

repeated background checks for casual firearms exchanges. The complaint against the recall was funded by Michael Bloomberg. The Oregon secretary of state to acquire any of the signatures turned in last week. The secretary of state is currently checking the 10 thousand signatures submitted by the recall campaign. The effort needs 84 hundred valid signatures from voters in Prozanski’s district. The decision will be in next week. The recall effort against House Majority Leader Val Hoyle was stopped after Hoyle resigned from office.

Rob -Mexican Diplomat Alejandro Estivill sent a letter to US Democrat Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland. Estivill said the Government of Mexico’s deeply appreciates . The diplomat also urged a stronger push for gun control.

As if on queue, Democrat to make “gun sellers” criminally liable for the misuse of guns they sell. The bill expands the seller’s obligations and exposes gun sellers to criminal civil penalties if the buyer doesn’t meet federal purchase criteria. Currently, the law protects dealers from criminal prosecution unless the dealer “knew or had cause to believe the customer had a criminal record, history of mental institutionalization or other disqualifying factor.”

John- This legislation makes the seller responsible for the state’s mistakes. I look at the buyer’s carry permit. I look at his ID. I run a NICS check, and I’m liable if the government made a mistake. This is a plaintiff’s lawyer dream come true. It also seems to contradict the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act

Also from Virginia, Democrat Patrick Hope was joined by most of the Democrat Representatives from Virginia as he held a press conference. to stop the gun show loophole. Within minutes Representative Hope said “I chose background checks, not because it would have prevented the shooting but because this would be easiest to pass. We will not be able to prevent every single incident. If we can prevent one incident from occurring, then we should do it.”

Rachel- Let me translate that for you. I’m going to make a non-violent gun owner into a criminal.. because I can.

John – Hope is what I call a blood dancer. He was calling for UBC before the blood had even

Cuomo Calls For National Gun Control – And Threatens More State Laws
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo wasted no time in after an ex-aide was shot and critically injured at a late night street party. Carey Gabay, 43, is hospitalized in a medically induced coma. Gabay was just one of the many victims of NYC’s violent Labor Day weekend.

According to Cuomo, New York’s tough firearms laws are ineffective if they stand alone. No mention was made of where the nation’s so-called lax gun laws have played a part in significantly reducing murders and assaults. Cuomo seeks to hide the failure of his draconian laws with even more gun laws. He stated that anyone who doesn’t believe federal gun control laws are needed is “delusional.” And Hiz Honor certainly knows delusional first hand.

Cuomo indicated that he will follow the failures of his misnamed SAFE Act with even more anti-gun legislation. The governor has started discussions with leaders of the New York State Legislature about new gun control measures, He plans to propose a package of gun legislation in his State of the State address on Jan. 9. No specific goals have been listed, but modern sporting weapons have always been in his sights. Looks like those who choose civil disobedience when not registering their rifles may have made the right call.

Rachel- OKay let me translate that for you: what we did didn’t work….so let’s do more of it!

-We’re seeing the presidential campaigns start their opposition research. came out with a bit of old news. They remind us how First Lady Clinton testified in 1993. She called for a 25 percent tax on all gun sales. The Clinton library has a document with a Clinton wanted a court appointed monitor to review all firearms advertising. Also, no one under the age of 18 would be allowed in a store that sold firearms. That entry is dated 1999. Last month while campaigning in Iowa, she said

Rachel- Gary, tell me again about pro-gun Democrats?

Gary- We have them in Illinois, but not in Arkansas and New York.

John – One of the architect of those terms was Andrew Cuomo whom we just mentioned.

John- That is scary. If American gun owners sit on the sidelines this election, then they don’t deserve their guns. They didn’t care enough to get involved with politics.

Rob- Just because you are are not interested in politics.. does not mean politicians like Comrade Clinton are not interested in you.

-Our next act in the ongoing drama of gun security theater is being played out in Boston. Expect to be hearing from the mayor and police commissioner soon if you’re a legal gun owner. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner William Evans The letter gives gun owners information on how to report a private gun sale, and how to report loss or theft of a firearm. It also advertises a free gun lock and advice on gun storage. Last, but not least, the city offers a $200 gift card if a firearm owner turns in their guns.

Gary- That really is security theater for the media. You and I know where criminals get their guns. A mayor and chief of police should know as well. We’ve read the crime research so we know that thugs get their guns from their family and friends. This is letter to gun owners is propaganda for the media.. and it’s enabled by an ignorant news media that doesn’t do their research. They simply read the press releases handed out by anti-rights politicians. Shame on them.

Rob- Reading a press release without asking skeptical questions is bad journalism. We don’t do that and we’re amateurs.

-It isn’t enough that the NSA wants to monitor our calls. It isn’t enough that the US Department of Justice wants a list of firearms owners. New as early as kindergarten. The new class materials teach children to tell school officials about any incidents at 中国体彩官方app. From : quote “The Task Force supports these efforts to educate all students on domestic violence, dating violence, healthy relationships, and other related issues. Education for young people is important to help end the cycle of violence and prevent abuse and deaths among teens.” If found guilty of violating healthy 中国体彩官方app living standards, . Restoration of gun rights would be awarded only after the FBI removes the subject from a national database.

Rob- The most dangerous 中国体彩官方app situation for a child is in a 中国体彩官方app with unwed parents where one of the partners is not the biological parent of the child. That is exactly the situation that government fosters.. and now they want children to report what they think they heard at 中国体彩官方app. When you’re actively promoting the problem then I don’t believe you’re serious about finding a solution. Besides, wIth all its yelling and screaming, how many bogus reports will child protective services receive after parents have friends over to watch a football game.

Rachel- They want school children to turn in parents.. but let Planned Parenthood ignore if an adult is having sex with an underage girl. I guess parents are out of political favor.

John – It sounds like the Young Pioneers or the Stasi.

FSU Sued for Violating Florida Gun Law Preemption

Apparently fearing the armed criminals and maniacs who are not on their football team, the Florida State University President and Chief of Police are prohibiting firearms in private vehicles on school property. Florida Carry joined FSU graduate student Bekah Hargrove of in for violating the state’s preemption law. The law specifically mandates that only the state legislature can regulate arms in Florida.

The Florida First District Court of Appeals ruled in Florida Carry v. UNF, that Universities have no authority to regulate the lawful possession of firearms that are properly stored in private vehicles on campus. Despite this clear precedent, FSU chose to illegally prohibit the possession of firearms in private vehicles. It has a chilling effect on the right to bear arms when law abiding gun owners are lied to by public officials, especially ones who control their own police forces, according to the Executive Director of Florida Carry. We demand that public officials follow the law and will stand for nothing less.

We can only wish FSU’s President and Chief of Police would join the new Thug U’s Defensive Line in jail for their blatant violations of Florida law.

BREAKING NEWS! Florida State University football fans are now allowed to bring their guns to Doak Campbell Stadium as long as they have a concealed weapons permit and they keep the firearms locked in their cars, the — one day after being sued for banning guns on campus. Whatdayahknow; The intelligentsia can learn. Congratulations Florida Carry!

– Our last news item comes from our colleague Liston Matthews, where he reports a similar problem for gun owners in Knoxville. The Tennessee Valley Fair notified the public that the fair is a gun-free zone. Quote “no weapons of any kind are permitted at Chilhowee Park. All entrants are subject to search.” Chilhowee Park is owned by the City of Knoxville. The state of Tennessee and the state Attorney General recently reminded cities that they are prohibited by law from regulating the possession of firearms. It sounds like Tennessee needs a law like Florida’s that holds local politicians personally liable for violating the civil rights of gun owners.

Segment 3 Interviews

Doctor Bruce Eimer

Rob- We’ve heard politicians and anti-rights activists cry out for gun control after the murder of two TV journalists in Virginia. At the same time the gun grabbers admit that their proposals would be largely ineffective in stopping public murders. That doesn’t make sense. We called Doctor Bruce Eimer to tell us what is going on.

Welcome中国体彩官方app to the show, Doctor Eimer.

Doctor Eimer is a licensed psychologist. He is board certified and practices in clinical, pain and forensic psychology. He has decades of experience in a broad range of settings, from clinics, hospitals, universities, and private practice. But there is more.

BE- I also teach and write about armed self-defense.

1- Doctor Eimer, what makes this particular shooting of two broadcasters from Roanoke, Virginia so powerful?

Youtube from camera man-

Youtube from murderer point of view-

BE- We have video. We saw it happen. We heard the people shout and scream. Viewing a murder in real time on TV is shocking. Like seeing the planes hit the WTC towers on 9/11/01.

-This is up close and personal. Two nice people. America’s middles class next door neighbors, the young adults we went to grade school with are murdered right in front of us and we are helpless to do anything! We have very strong feelings seeing them murdered.

-We all have a part of us that feels guilty that they died and we are still alive. This is termed “survivor guilt”.

-This is what makes us all want to do something. What that something is depends on what side of the gun rights/gun control fence we stand.

Rob- Politicians proposed the trendy gun grab of “universal background checks”. In the next breath these proponents admit that background checks don’t stop murderers. Why does that make us feel better? What is attractive about gun prohibition?

BE- “Gun control laws” do NOT make everyone feel better. The motives of the legislators and lobbyists for gun control are often divergent from the motivations of the general public who support more gun laws.

-For the legislators, motives range from power, money, and control all the way to hoplophobia.

-For the public, the uneducated public and even the educated public like the idea of “common sense” gun laws. If you use denial to deny logically thinking through the issues and consequences of more gun laws as well as the existence of the ones currently enforced by the BATF, then you can continue to believe it makes a difference in terms of deterring violent crime.

Then you have the segment of the population who know better. However, they have a stick up their you know what as a result of some unresolved inner conflict, traumatic personal experience, secondary benefits from professing we need more gun control, identification with someone who believed in gun control, a fixed belief, and even the possibility of self-blame, self punishment and general punitiveness and hostility.

This leads into the territory of true hoplophobes.

Rob- Why are we attracted to a plan that doesn’t work? Why does gun control work for the politician even though it doesn’t work in the real world?

-Gun control is NOT placebo which is a “sugar pill” that one believes is the real medicine. It is a “Nocebo”. It is a belief that is fueled or motivated by the irrational belief that if we DO NOT have it, Mad Max will come to our society. It also has lot to do with how one was raised and who one identifies with.

-And it is NOT superstition. But it is or should I say, can be, magical thinking. In other words, make more laws, and the problem will go away. Then it is no longer our problem since we did everything we could.

Rob – As part of your professional practice, you do psychological evaluations of security officer candidates, police academy candidates, and new police hires. Is there any common thread present in those that you recommend should not be hired?

Rob- How should advocates for self-defense respond? What should we say and do to fight this magical thinking?

-We cannot afford to sit on our hands, or bite our tongues. We must fight more oppressive legislation with more grass roots education. This does require community outreach, and most folks, myself included, do not have time for this. And that is what the “Chuck” Schumers and Bloombergs of the world count on. But as long as we turn the other way, or do nothing, good old Chuckie and Mikey will steal your face, steal your guns, steal your rights, and steal your life.

Rob- Doctor Eimer, where can our listeners follow you?

Stephanie asked that we call her at 406-350-2088 and not on Skype.

-Stephanie Spika

John – Stephanie Spika is running for the NRA Board of Directors as a petition candidate. She is a native Montanan who worked for many years with the NRA Institute for Legislative Affairs. She was the NRA ILA’s Social Media Manager before she left to take a similar position as the Social Media Manager for Benelli USA.

Stephanie, welcome to The Polite Society Podcast

John – Could you tell us why you are running for the NRA Board?

John – Looking back on past elections, I don’t remember a candidate under the age of 30. You are now 29 if I read correctly. What do you think your relative youthfulness would bring to the Board?

John – Do you think your age would be an impediment to either being elected or to your effectiveness on the board?

John – You worked for the NRA-ILA for a number of years. I remember meeting you in the Media Room at a number of NRA Annual Meetings. Do you think your prior work for the NRA will help you as a Board member?

John – Finally, what do you hope to accomplish if you are elected to the Board?

Rachel- What are 2-3 practical steps you’d want the NRA to take to become more attractive and helpful for women?

You said you’d like to see more involvement by women and youth in the NRA. What would that look like?

John – Remind our listeners who can sign your petition and then hopefully to vote for you.

Please tell our listeners where they can find out more about your and your campaign.

Gary- Four to One Odds Overcome by the Use of a Handgun

A 34 year old Gresham, Oregon man found himself in a fight for his life as late Saturday night. More than a dozen officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots, but found the fight was all over, except for the bleeding. One criminal was hospitalized for gunshots, one for stab wounds, one was booked for assault and burglary, and the final invader is cooling his heels at the morgue. The busy 中国体彩官方appowner was hospitalized for stab wounds and later released.

Detectives leading the ongoing investigation believe the suspects specifically targeted the victim. What is known is that a single armed man was able to successfully defended his life against terrible odds by the use of a firearm. This is just one example of why magazine capacity limits are dangerous to the law-abiding who are increasingly facing multiple attackers. Something the politicians protected by submachine-gun totting professionals should note.

Rob- capacity 2.3 attackers.

Gary –

Connecticut Family Man Fights Off Two Armed Attackers

Two Massachusetts criminals had their plans interrupted by an alert – and . He might have saved his wife and child from an especially evil fate, as the thugs packed zip-ties along with their guns.

Two men pointed a gun at the resident as he returned 中国体彩官方app around 11 at night. The pistol permit holder pulled his handgun and shot both attackers multiple times. He was slightly injured in the exchange of gunfire. His assailants are in the hospital in critical but stable condition. His wife and child were thankfully unharmed.

Police have not charged the victim; however, the investigation is continuing. Neighbors in the quiet community were very supportive of the 中国体彩官方appowner, saying that he did what he had to do to defend his family. Several hoped they would be able to do the same if in a similar situation. The staff of the Polite Society applaud the 中国体彩官方appowner’s foresight and courage in the defense of his family.

Son Kills Armed Masked, Violent Man – His Father

Startled awake by screams for help, a Florida son found a holding a gun to his mother’s head. The man then pointed his gun at Malachi Heisler, forcing the youth to use the rifle he had grabbed. The invader fell dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

It turned out that the attacker was the mother’s estranged lover… and Malachi’s father. He violated a restraining order granted after a prior attack and assaulted Jolene Andrews once again. Investigators said the felon had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and was likely drunk when he broke several windows and forced his way into the house. According to police; “He was there meaning business and playing for keeps.” The sheriff’s office said no charges will be filed against the teen. “When you open the door and you see somebody dressed in all black, in fatigues, with a ski mask on and a gun in your mother’s face — he did the right thing”, according to the county sheriff. The fact that the madman was armed with two BB guns does nothing to change that fact.

Dayton 中国体彩官方appowner Shoots a 中国体彩官方app-Invader Twice – Two Years Apart
Some guys just can’t take a hint.

DeBrandon Jurrod Dickerson, 22, of Detroit was found dead on a Dayton street, . Dickerson’s end started early in the morning, when he broke into a house via a second story window. The searching invader found a woman hiding in a bathroom, an armed woman, who shot him in the chest at close range. Dickerson escaped out the same window and ran a block before dying.

To this point, this is just another justifiable case of self defense; necessary far too often. It becomes additionally disturbing as the owner’s 中国体彩官方app had been robbed 5 times in 11 years, the last just a month before. Examining Dickerson’s criminal record, this sad event takes a decidedly stranger turn. It now appears that Dickerson had crossed paths with the 中国体彩官方appowner before; almost 2 years to the hour. Then, two men broke down the back door of the same house, and the 中国体彩官方appowner had to use a firearm to defend herself. Dickerson and an accomplice were arrested, one with a wound to the arm. Apparently, the pointed lesson of a gunshot, and whatever limited punishment for this and all his other offenses, simply didn’t work. He returned, literally, to his old ways, but had to pay for it with his life.

If Dickerson wouldn’t, the law-abiding should take advantage of this lesson. Once again, the legal system failed in its goal of reform or even to just keep the criminal away from the public. We must be prepared to defend our lives at all times, often from people that should have been behind bars.

Hello all,

I wanted to write in after listening to the recent interview with Matt Martin from Geeks, Gadgets, and Guns… Not to detract from the potential of the Apple watch to be used as a shot timer, but a wristwatch shot timer with an accelerometer already exists. It’s called the Shotmaxx. I have one and I can report that it works as advertised. If your listeners are interested, I recently posted a brief review of the shot timer to my blog at. My coauthor and I blog there about a variety of topics that we hope are of interest to gun owners and the armed citizen.

Anyway, keep up the good work, I really like listening to the podcast every week on my commute to and from work.

Take care,

Hey Paul and the gang,

I heard Gary asking again about a way to use a revolver for dryfire training and thought this would be of interest.

Orleans, VT

Rachel: Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote an article about the virtue of armed self-defense. We don’t hear that word virtue used much these days. A right is an activity that the government must allow and protect. A virtue is something we want to promote. We are in a culture war.. and most of our politicians are pacifists, so what should we do. The article is called It is up at Clash Daily. Ammoland and at my blog I’d appreciate your comments.

Show intro music.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- We moved 8 ton’s of our personal possessions to Louisiana. The cardboard content in my 中国体彩官方app is dropping steadily day after day. I’ve already fed and eaten alligator. As to guns, I’ve only dry fired, but I did lay hands on all my guns and ammunition in the new house. I have standard capacity magazines on order.

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

John- I registered for the SHOT Show this week. I want to thank Susan for the head’s up. Now I have to find a place to stay which seems harder this year than last. Hotels affiliated with the SHOT Show seem to have filled up much quicker this year. Hopefully, that will mean the SHOT Show will be bigger than ever! Other than that, the only gun-related thing I did this week was order a new t-shirt (like I don’t have enough already!). Rob will appreciate this – it was from Apex Tactical and it says, “Manufactured behind enemy lines in Los Ochos, CA”. What can I say? I just couldn’t resist. (throw to Matt)

Matt – Filming slow motion of many handguns from a Savage 1905 in .32 and a Mauser c96 through a Glock 42 and Walther CCP.

Paul – Started ordering equipment for GRPC. Final stages of planning, and starting the planning process for SHOT Show.

Paul- We’ve had Bob Mayne on the show before. He is an instructor and podcaster over at the Handgun World Podcast. He had brain cancer. We are all relieved that his latest scans show him to be free of cancer. We want to wish Bob the best of luck

Seg 2- News

We’ll start with news from Rob’s former 中国体彩官方app in Southern California. The City Council of Carlsbad California took a small step towards permitting a recreational shooting range inside city limits. The existing gun store was included in the revised zoning plan that would include usage such businesses as an indoor shooting range. Congratulations to the store owners and the self-defense activists who made this possible. They had already raised funds to put an initiative on the ballot that would have revised the zoning code. The fight against the anti-gun bigots in Carlsbad isn’t over. The planning commission can still prohibit any existing facility by adding a requirement the existing site doesn’t meet. Stay vigilant and politically active out there.

John – Contrast this with San Francisco which is considering a new ordinance that will force the only gun store to close. The ordinance requires a log of all gun and ammo owners sent weekly to the SFPD along with video.

-What do you do when the police break down your door and point guns at you? What do you do if you’re a retired law enforcement officer living in Los Angeles and the local cops break down your door to grab your guns. That is exactly what happened to Wayne Wright. Wayne is a decorated former helicopter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, a former firefighter, and police officer. The LA gang and gun unit grabbed Wayne’s gun collection and refused to return it. The LA police lost their case in court. The LA police had a judge’s order to return Wayne’s firearms.. and the police destroyed Wayne’s million dollar collection anyway. It appears the police destroyed the guns in order to receive federal funds designed to stop gang activity.

They destroyed Wayne’s collection even after a judge ruled in an earlier case that the police must return firearms to their rightful owner, and after the then chief of police entered into a binding consent decree to change police policy. That means the police broke the law and they knew it.

So what do you do to the police who break the law? Wayne Wright is under the Federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, commonly referred to as RICO. This provides extended criminal AND civil penalties for acts performed as part of an ongoing criminal organization. The judgment should top four million dollars including attorneys fees.

Rob- Police departments have been charged and convicted under the RICO statutes before. It is hard to stand by police when some of the agencies are corrupt and padding their numbers with false convictions so they can get government grants. That makes it hard to tell the good cops from the bad.

John – Tom Gresham interviewed his atty regarding this. The LAPD is sending people to gun shows to find those who have legal gun collections so they could get large numbers of guns to destroy to pad their numbers.

-I wish Rachel were here for this next story. New firearms laws went into effect in Texas this week. Many government buildings are no longer off limits for concealed carry. It won’t surprise any Texans, but the Austin City Hall left their old gun ban signs in place.. at least until a local human rights advocate took action. Michael Cargill delivered a letter to the mayor and said he would sue the city if the signs stayed up.

Gary- Good work, Michael Cargill.

Paul- The new law in Texas allows carry in some government buildings. Schools, hospitals and courthouses remain off limits to licensed concealed carriers.

-Also in Texas, a new state law allows a concealed handgun license holder to avoid arrest for accidentally …so long as the person immediately leaves the area upon being told about the weapon. Local law enforcement now has the option to charge or not charge the traveler. Careless passengers moving through secure airport areas with a firearm in Texas could still be slapped with a hefty fine from the TSA. Civil penalties involving unloaded guns can reach $3,000, while a similar penalty for possessing a loaded gun can run as high as $7,500.

Rob- Only 3000?

John – TSA doesn’t have arrest powers.

John – (TSA) Thousands standing around.

-We have some good news brought to us by a human rights activists in Alabama. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled a state law that banned the open carry of a gun on someone else’s property was unconstitutional. The case started when Jason Tulley wore a gun into the First Educators Credit Union in 2011. A cop acting as a security guard asked Tulley to put his gun in his car. Tulley did so, but received a ticket and summons two days later. The Alabama high court overturned Tulley’s conviction. Businesses may post their property asking gun owners not to enter, but

John- The city of Jacksonville, Alabama tried to use this obscure “own premises” law to gut the state’s open carry laws. The city attorney of Jacksonville failed because someone was willing to take them to court and stop it.

-Also from Alabama, require probate court judges to report to law enforcement when the judge commits someone for involuntary mental health treatment. Under federal law, a person who is involuntarily committed for treatment cannot possess a firearm. However, people who are forced to undergo treatment are able to appeal the ruling at a state level and have their rights restored. A second law requires Alabama state judges to report all people who are found not guilty of a crime because of mental illness or due to a mental defect.

John – Our mental health system is broken.

-Let’s move over to Georgia. A baptist church in Calhoun, Georgia started . A church member had concerns about physical security. He collected news reports of attacks and threats on churches. He took those concerns, and the information he collected, to the church council. The council wanted the church to protect itself rather than hire an outside security service. When they looked, the church council found it had good trainers and candidates in its own congregation. They started a 22 hour long safety and training course at the church for their members. The governing board of the church also allows members of its congregation who have their license to carry concealed on church property.

All this happened because someone raised the question of security, did their 中国体彩官方appwork, and asked for an answer. That sounds like our audience. That sounds like something you would do.

Rob- That is how we change our schools and churches. Our audience knows things that other people don’t know. It is our duty to raise appropriate concerns if we care about our community. We raise our concerns and ask for an answer. Well done.

-A wealthy fashion designer named Kenneth Cole put up an anti-rights billboard in New York City. The sign said “Over 40 million Americans suffer from mental illness. Some can access care…all can access guns.” The American Psychiatric Association immediately criticized the advertisement. because it incorrectly links mental illness with gun violence and the need for gun control.

Quoting the APA president, the billboard “provides the gross misimpression that people with mental illness are violent. The vast majority of people with mental illness are not violent and most acts of violence are not committed by people with mental illness.”

The unasked question is how do we respect individual rights and treat mental illness at the same time. How do we respect the right of self-defense and still limit crazy people from getting guns?

Rob- Whoever put up that billboard never went through a background check? That is a tough question and politicians want to ignore it. Mental health treatment is expensive and the issue doesn’t have a large donor base who makes political contributions. I notice that most of our mass murderers are on anti-anxiety drugs and I want to know what side effects are too severe to put those drugs on the market. What should we do if a drug makes one out of 10 thousand people violent?

Gary –

John – Isn’t the thing that the gun controllers say in defense of gun laws, if it saves only one life….

-Gun control isn’t about crime control. A recent survey funded by the anti-rights Joyce Foundation interviewed 99 inmates at Chicago’s Cook County Jail. These inmates had illegally possessed a gun within the last six months. Almost all the criminals got their guns from people they knew and trusted.

, “It is rare for offenders to buy from licensed dealers, and also rare for them to steal their guns. The predominant sources of guns to offenders are family, acquaintances, and fellow gang members. Criminals would only make illegal gun purchases from people they knew. Only 3 percent of the guns used in crime were purchased directly from a gun store. Criminals used handguns and never used modern sporting rifles.”

John- I want to emphasise that this report is from an anti-gun group who still claimed that gun control works. The good news is that we are not the only ones reporting accurate news to the public. You won’t see this study reported fairly on mainstream media like MSNBC or CNN, but conservative commentators are willing to talk about the success of armed self-defense. Conservative writer Dr. Tom Sowell criticized gun control. His article was picked up in major news outlets around the world.

Paul they are talking about straw purchases and NOTHING will stop straw purchases

John – I have read most of the study. It was a study of mostly identified gang members.

Matt – Could we not crack down on straw purchasing by prosecuting the illegal transfer after the fact that would be far more effective than the put the guns down billboards.

Rob- Legal or not? Abuse of “stolen” gun and

John – Milwaukee report – multiple illegal transfers to felons – guy got probation.

-Guy Smith at GunFacts.info put up a new page on so called “Universal Background Checks”. Needless to say, background checks don’t stop criminals because criminals don’t buy their guns at gun shops. This data looks at guns used by criminals over a 7 year period. through a pawn shop or gun store. That means anything called a universal background check law will be 89 percent ineffective. It won’t stop crime.. and gun bigots know it. Such a law is designed to hurt the culture of armed self-defense, not hamper criminals.

John – UBC are flypaper laws.

-Reason magazine had another thoughtful review on gun laws. In particular, the Reason article for their conclusion that guns cause crime. A thorough review would determine if gun control laws changed the rate of criminal gun deaths.. or merely continued a pre-existing trend of lower crime. Reason concluded that the right to own and carry a personal firearm for self-defense does not lead to more criminal homicide.

Rob- We hear lots of bad statistics thrown around, statements like “guns cause gun deaths.” Yes, that is true in a narrow sense.. and lightning cases electrocution deaths. I’ve seen studies that deliberately put justifiable self-defense in the same category as criminals who use guns. Before I trust a study I have to see the precise question they asked and how they collected their information. We’ve seen studies funded by anti-rights foundations that hide the truth rather than reveal it.

John – Gary, What year did Illinois get CCW? 2014

John- Most injuries or deaths with a firearm are from suicide. Then comes gang shootings. You or I discharging a firearm in self-defense happens much less often, though we use a firearm for self-defense more often that criminals use guns for crimes.

Gary- The man on the street in New York City doesn’t know that. I doubt they would believe it if we told them.

Paul- So we need to take our friends in New York City shooting.

-Detroit police chief James Craig “We’ve had a 1 percent uptick in homicides this year, ..but if you look at what’s happened since 2013, when I got here, (homicides are) down 14 percent.” close quote.

Reductions in robberies and carjackings have been even steeper, with each dropping 38 percent over the past two years. Craig credits the decreases to several factors, including citizens who legally carry guns. Again quoting chief Craig “Detroiters are fed up. You’ve seen the stories: A woman shoots a 中国体彩官方app invader, a man shoots an armed robber.. I believe suspects know Detroiters will protect themselves when faced with an imminent threat, and that’s had an effect on crime.”

Paul- We are lucky to have Chief James Craig in Detroit.

-Starting next year, residents of Albany, New York have to keep their guns locked up or risk up to a year in jail. The Albany Common Council voted for a city ordinance requiring that all firearms, including rifles and shotguns, Penalties start at a $250 fine and grow to a year in jail.

Paul- Wasn’t the Heller case in Washington, DC about storing your guns so you couldn’t get to them?

John- It was, but after the Heller case, federal judges have refused to hear similar cases.. like the ones coming from California and New Jersey. I guess decisions like Heller and McDonald don’t apply in those states. It must be nice to be above the law.

Rob- The Albany City Council is not trying to control crime. They are writing laws for anti-rights activists who promise campaign donations. They want to drive out the self-defense culture in Albany. That makes it easier for these politicians to retain office.

John- NY is two states – NYC and the rest of the state.

Gary –

John – you are running into the issue of Federalism.

Rob- Who pays? Head, I get campaign cash, Tail- the taxpayers pay

Gun Quote – From Dr. Thomas Sowell: “The key fallacy of so-called gun control laws is that such laws do not in fact control guns. They simply disarm law-abiding citizens, while people bent on violence find firearms readily available.” The quote is from one of his oldie-but-goodie columns. The to the article is in the show notes.

Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our interview segment.

  4. 1911 or Striker fired?

#2 You have been doing some torture tests on YouTube, Tell us a little bit about what you have been doing.

Segment 4 DGUs

-Here is our first story of defensive gun use. 24 year old Joe Lanier has a concealed carry permit. Joe’s mom is also a firearms instructor, and she taught all her children to defend themselves. They need to, because Joe lives in Detroit. Joe was working as an exterminator last week. He stopped in traffic when a 17 year old boy tried to rob him at gunpoint. The 17 year old demanded Joe’s sunglasses. You can guess what happened next. Quote “The boy tried to rob me, and . That’s what happened. That’s why he’s in the hospital and not me.” close quote.

Firearms instructor Rick Ector runs the firearms academy of Detroit. He writes at Legally Armed In Detroit. Rick said “If you are old enough to (commit robbery) then you are old enough to get shot.”

Joe Lanier wasn’t hurt, but he needed to replace the windows on his car.

Woman Defends Herself and Child Against 中国体彩官方app-Invader
Somehow, the 911 call to police didn’t work instantly, so a young mother was forced to and her child from a determined 中国体彩官方app-invader. Just after 10 am, Williams Evans finally broke into the house. The woman dropped the phone, picked up her gun, and shot the intruder. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The 中国体彩官方appowner said she did not know Evans.

Evans’ mother said her son was at the house because the man who lives there was speaking negatively about the mother of his child. “My son was a good boy,”

Retired Lobsterman Shoots Violent Felon – May Lose His Apartment

who had broken into his apartment in search of prescription drugs and money. Police arrested the wounded Christopher Wildhaber, 45, in the nearby woods after a struggle. Once treated for his shoulder wound, the criminal was jailed. Wildhaber is a violent felon with a record of domestic violence arrests. His intended victim, Harvey Lembo, 67, uses a wheelchair to get around his cramped rooms. He had just recently purchased the WWII era Russian revolver to protect himself after two prior 中国体彩官方app robberies.

Police are still investigating, but it is unlikely the lobsterman will face any charges. However, the apartment house owner is demanding that Lembo do away with the firearm that may have saved his life – or be thrown out of his 中国体彩官方app. Firearms are prohibited in the lease agreement for – wait for it – safety reasons. We all know that Gun-Free Zones are sooooo much safer.

John – Wow! A 1895 Nagant revolver in 7.62 Nagant. A curio & relic for the win.

MM- An interesting if inefficient design.

John – And the worst trigger pull to boot.

CF – So ugly, that only a despotic regime could have made it. Kinda like Obamacare.

John – Sorry – original design is from the Czarist days and done by a Belgian. (CF – I stand – and sit – corrected!)

Taxi Driver

A and a Florida couple traded “four, ten … about five, six rounds” in heavy midday Miami traffic. The driver’s customers put a gun to his head and grabbed some money. The driver pulled over and chased the couple, who opened fire. The taxi driver then went all Robert De Niro on them. The couple was taken into custody, along with two others, after an hours-long standoff outside their motel room.

Fortunately, none of the stray bullets injured anyone on the busy street. It looks like Murphy may have had a hand in that. Police recovered a pistol with what was described as a nasty double feed failure. Another pistol was found hidden outside the suspect’s hotel. As Miggy Gonzalez would say: Eh, .

Rob- A double feed occurs when a case fails to extract and a second cartridge is forced partially out of the magazine on top of the already occupied chamber. I’ve had double feeds for two reasons. The first was from shooting cheap range reloads that were improperly sized. The second was during an endurance tests when I refused to clean my gun. If you want to trust your firearm then you must look after your equipment.

John – To paraphrase DeNiro, “You pointing that thing at me?”

Paul -Had training where we intentionally had a double feed and tried to clear it.

11-Year-Old Defends Himself and His 4-Year-Old Sibling

This next story was sent in by several listeners. St Louis County Police say that an and his 4-year-old sister from a 中国体彩官方app-invader. The 16-year-old suspect was found in the 中国体彩官方app’s foyer, dead from a single gunshot wound to the head. The handgun used by the child had recently been purchased by his mother because of several similar robbery attempts. The children had already endured two attempted breakins earlier that morning. The parents were not 中国体彩官方app at the time.

The dead man’s 22-year-old male companion was arrested for attempted robbery. Police say evidence shows that the deceased was shot inside the 中国体彩官方app. However, some neighbors are telling the media the suspect was lured closer and hit outside the 中国体彩官方app. Other say that the child was seen waving a gun around the neighborhood earlier in the week. Police are continuing to investigate, but are standing by their initial determination.

We certainly believe firearms should be safely secured when there are young children in the house. However, having a firearm available may have made the difference in this critical situation. It’s tricky when making the transition from child to trusted son or daughter. We’ve known 10-year-olds mature enough to be trusted with a firearm – and 40-year-olds that shouldn’t have water in their squirt-guns. The parents must decide.

Thanks for the tip, Anthony and Scott.

John- To offer some perspective, there are about 30 million children under the age of 15 living with firearms in the 中国体彩官方app. The Centers for Disease Control reports that 69 children in that age group died from firearms accidents last year. These children are a thousand times more likely to face a criminal invasion than be injured with a firearm.

Gary- We can cut the number of accidents even farther if we teach our children to be gun safe.

Listener e-mail discussion

Peter sent us a message on our Facebook site,

Listening to episode 346 as I type this. Gary was asking about training barrels for revolvers. I don’t believe anybody makes anything that will not permanently alter the weapon. I do have two ideas that might work. As long as the gun is going to be used as a “non-firing” trainer, he could remove the firing pin, thus allowing load/unload and dry fire. Another suggestion would be contacting the manufacturer and see about obtaining a separate cylinder that has not had the chambers cut.

Gary –

John –

Paul- Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote an article called

We all have friends who say they don’t want to become involved because their activity could get them on a government list. Tom Gresham asked a great question. “What would you pay to make a SWAT team go away once they were at your front door to take your guns.” Would you pay a thousand dollars? It costs less than a hundred dollars a year to join the NRA, SAF, GOA, JPFO and the Crime Prevention Research Center. You’ll have money left over to join your state firearms group and the local political party. Those are the groups who can constrain our government. It is better to be on their mailing list than on the government’s list.

That article is up at Ammoland. I also write at Clash Daily and on my blog, slow facts dot wordpress dot com.

John tell us what is new at your blog, Only Guns and Money.

are appearing in traces for crime guns in New York. The head of the ATF’s Charlotte Field Division, Wayne Dixie, said “we are the supplier of those firearms that end up in northern cities” and blamed this on “lax gun laws” in NC and SC. I disagreed. WE are not the suppliers. Thieves and criminal gangs are the suppliers of stolen guns that end up in NY. Moreover, there were 5 times as many traced guns from New York itself than either of the Carolinas. I also noted that I saw more people prosecuted by his office in the last two years for cigarette smuggling than gun trafficking.

Rob- Dixie is a political hack.

“An armed society is a polite society.. and this is the Polite Society Podcast where we support and report on civilian self-defense.”

Paul: Welcome中国体彩官方app to the polite society podcast presented by the Firearms Policy Coalition recorded Sunday August 30th 2015, I’m Paul Lathrop

Kelly : I’m Kelly Lynn from the New Shooter Canada Podcast, and since Rob is still working on his move this week I am stepping in to help co-host..

Rachel: I’m Rachel Malone, and we have good news about carrying knives in Texas.

John: I’m John Richardson, and we’ll talk about the Virginia on air killings

Gary: I’m Gary Daugherty and in one of our DGU’s a fast food worker defends himself while working the drive thru, so climb aboard

Kelly: strap in

John : and hang on!

Paul: episode 346 of the Polite Society Podcast starts right now.

Show intro music.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rachel- Went to my local A Girl & A Gun chapter girl’s night out – shot my Glock, gave new shooter instructional, and coached shooters. Signed up for GRPC range day. Running and working out to get ready for the Pecos Run N Gun.

John – I spent yesterday morning and part of the afternoon at the Greensboro, NC gun show. It was the biggest gun show I’ve been to unless you count the SHOT Show or NRA Annual Meeting. When we got there the line for time had about 35-50 people in it! The show itself was a good mixture of the old and the new with some junk thrown in. For every 2 ARs, I saw one Colt Python. I also – and please don’t tell Mike Bloomberg this – engaged in a private transaction that was in full compliance with NC law. A nice Ruger Security-Six – the predecessor of the GP-100 revolver – came 中国体彩官方app with me. I think it probably spent most of its life in a holster. The barrel was clean except for some cobwebs!

Throw to Kelly here

John – Kelly, I have a question re Appleseed

Gary – What training do you have coming up?

Paul says- Rob made it to Louisiana, and a big moving truck is in front of his house right now. He got to visit with friends on his drive east. He had dinner with Charles Heller in Tucson, Arizona. He also visited with Ben Branam and John Edeen in San Antonio, Texas. Anyone who thinks the US is crowded has not driven US Highway 10 from Tucson to San Antonio. Rob is writing about gun owners who “don’t want to be on a list”. He has an internet connection in his new house, so he should be on next week’s podcast.

I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Seg 2- News

Two Journalists Killed On-Air

Two Roanoke, Virginia TV journalists were killed on-air by a deeply disturbed former coworker. The killer then posted his own video of the shooting to Twitter and Facebook and faxed a 23 page rant to ABC News before killing himself several hours later. Per our longstanding principles, we will not broadcast the killer’s name, nor sensationalize his so-called reasons. We do express our sincere condolences to the friends and families of the victims of this senseless attack.

The killer was still at large when politicians and activists elbowed their way onto the airwaves and social media. Candidates Clinton and O’Malley were quick to focus on the gun, as was the White House. Without even a significant fraction of the facts, they recited the usual half-truths, spin and nonsensical “common-sense” demands. Of course, Bloomberg’s minions were not far behind. Many remarked on how extraordinarily quick the anti-gun response was. Universally, the gun was the thing demonized.

However, it’s the chattering class and the media that are very likely the real reason for this tragedy. This attack was the direct spawn of the media’s obsessive fascination with mass killings and the killers. The attack was designed from the start to get the attention the killer longed for. He wanted to ensure a stage for his beliefs, his perceived wrongs and himself. The killer brought his own body camera, stalked the news team, waited until they were on-air, then delayed his attack until the perfect moment when the news camera returned to the reporter. It is the stuff of cold, calculated madness — and showmanship. The killer – and the media – got what they wanted.

Now, the pro-rights community must once again defend itself and it’s Constitutional Rights. It’s again time to stand up, to refute the lies and half-truths, and to actively support those that support them. The law-abiding, the rational, the sane, will be facing a flood of the usual, emotion-driven, nonsensical attempts to limit their freedoms with a host of ultimately ineffective laws.

Related to this story, was on the Fox news Hannity show the day after the shooting, after President Obama renewed his calls for more gun control. Sheriff Clarke had the following quote. “Here’s my challenge to the president of the United States, You think this is so easy? Forego your Secret Service protection for you, for the first lady and your children, and see what it’s like to have to defend yourself, And then we’ll sit down and have a conversation so you know what we here at ground level have to deal with on a daily base in terms of self-defense.”

[Our commentators may want to remark that the media is having a rough time – as the shooter was a black, gay, progressive, anti-gun, disaffected, Obama supporting racist – leading them to focus almost exclusively on the gun and anti-gunners. He passed the background check. He apparently would not have used all the rounds in a limited 10 round magazine. Most of the anti’s demands would have made ZERO change to this atrocity.

This is an extremely important story – if anyone has any suggestions how the article or the one beneath can be improved – please sing out! ]

John – The reason we didn’t hear about the killer as much as the gun was that he didn’t fit the usual constructs. He was a gay African-American man which meant he was sacrosanct.

John – It got a lot of press because of two facts- video and they were journalists.

Paroled Violent Repeat Felon Kills 9 Year Old

Just how effective gun laws can – or can’t – be is shown in the tragic death of Jamyla Bolden. The precocious 9 year-old was killed in her mother’s Ferguson, Missouri bedroom while doing 中国体彩官方appwork. The murderer that fired into Jamyla’s house had a significant, including weapons violations. Despite his prior arrests and convictions, he was free to roam the streets. Months before, he had been convicted of an armed drug robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. But the judge commuted his sentence to just 5 years of probation, sending him back into the public once more. And a beautiful, intelligent, vibrant little girl was laid to rest this Saturday as a direct result.

The Pro-Rights community often points out that gun laws only affect the law-abiding; criminals naturally operate outside those laws. However, laws are especially ineffective when the authorities choose not to enforce those laws. For reasons of ease, expense, misguided compassion or the desire to hide uncomfortable demographic truths, the prevalent “Catch and Release” philosophy is tearing at our society’s perception of justice. And it’s just one more reason why we must stay armed and alert. We. Are. On. Our. Own. (Michael Bane)

Texas Knife Law Preemption Goes Into Effect Sept 1

We on the podcast have often criticized the knife laws and policies of certain Texas cities such as San Antonio. goes into effect. It is legislated state knife law preemption such that no county or municipality can have a knife law more restrictive than state law.

The immediate impact is that it invalidates the knife ordinances in Corpus Christi and San Antonio. These two cities made Knife Rights Worst 10 list for the knife ordinances. Moreover, the 2013 Texas law change allowing automatic or switchblade knives will now be effective throughout the state. Knife Rights and its volunteers are combing city and county ordinances searching for locales whose ordinances are now invalid.

John – Knife law preemption like state gun law preemption should be the rule in all states. Unfortunately, it isn’t.

Gary – Illinois State Senator Tim Bevins has introduced legislation, SB 711, that would legalize switchblade (automatic) knives for anyone who holds an Illinois concealed carry license, as well as for peace officers. It includes legalization to manufacture and sell to these individuals. – See more at:

Rachel- believe it or not, it took multiple sessions to get this passed

John – I’d like to say this about switchblade bans – it was the result of politicians seeing West Side Story.

Seattle gets hit with lawsuit

A hat tip to Bob Owens over at , it’s not like no one warned Seattle that this would happen. Before Seattle Mayor Ed Murray signed the seattle gun and ammo tax into law, The National Shooting Sports Foundation warned him that they would sue the city should he actually sign the ordinance. Well he did, and they did. Actually the NSSF teamed up with the NRA, the SAF, and 2 local gun stores as well as 2 private citizens to file the lawsuit. The attorneys that are representing the plaintiffs are the same ones that won a 2009 suit that required Seattle to follow state preemption law.

Paul – I don’t know about anyone else, but I really would not want to fight the SAF, the NRA, the NSSF and others all rolled into one. There is a LOT of legal muscle coming to bear here.

John – I’d like to also note the historical significance of this. This lawsuit marks the FIRST time that the SAF, NRA, and NSSF have all been party to the same lawsuit.

Mike Bloomberg for President?

seeing the success of Donald Trump is trying to start a Draft Bloomberg for President movement. He made this suggestion in a tweet after the large stock market decline on Monday. He said it was time for Bloomberg to step into the ring and referred to him as the “greatest mayor.”

John – As I titled my blog post on this, Not only no but hell no.

comment – Can you imagine what this nasty little fascist as Michael Bane calls him would do to not only gun rights but all rights?

Rifles, muskets, long-bows and hand-grenades are inherently democratic weapons. A complex weapon makes the strong stronger, while a simple weapon — so long as there is no answer to it — gives claws to the weak. — George Orwell

Domestic Violence Victim Shoots Attacker
We’ve covered the tragedy of New Jersey resident Carol Bowne, who died waiting for permission to buy a handgun to defend her life. In this story, we see the difference a gun can make in a domestic violence case.

Early in the morning, a domestic dispute degraded into violence. Police received a 911 call involving a domestic dispute with the suspect armed with a gun. During the domestic incident the man choked the victim. As the victim escaped, two gunshots were fired striking the man twice. Enterprise police arrived to hear multiple gunshots from inside the 中国体彩官方app.

A police spokesman said the victim suffered minor injuries. He said the alleged assailant remained hospitalized as of mid Thursday morning. He will be officially arrested when released from the hospital.

Armed Robber Approaches Two Men, Demands Wallets, Gets Killed
After watching a Tennessee Titans football game, when a SUV stopped in front. Several armed men got out and demanding the friend’s belongings.

While one thief was taking the keys and getting into to a victim’s car, he saw the 中国体彩官方appowner drawing his own gun. The thief opened fire and the 中国体彩官方appowner shot back, hitting the criminal. 22-year-old Clarence Goins went to his reward in the Nashville street. HIs accomplices fled in the white Jeep Cherokee. Nashville Metro Police said that both victims waited at the scene and cooperated with officers when they arrived.

Our takeaway: even when you’ve just enjoyed watching your team beat the hapless St Louis Rams, criminals can attack. Stay armed – stay aware.

中国体彩官方app Invasion Lands A Criminal in the Hospital
Another Tennessee 中国体彩官方appowner answered a on his door. He naturally found three armed men on his stoop. In that touching tablou, everyone began shooting.

The three suspects fled on foot. A short time later, a Mr. Dre’An Whitherspoon entered an Emergency Room with a bullet wound. Dre’An remains in the hospital in stable condition. Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, believes Whitherspoon was one of the three men involved in the robbery and since they have retrieved the bullet, a ballistics test should confirm he was shot by the victim.

Five people (including a 7-year-old child) were in the 中国体彩官方app during the robbery but no one in the 中国体彩官方app was injured. Police believe there is a ring targeting local Hispanics. It is not likely that the victim will face any charges,

Paul – Please, dear listeners, NEVER open the door to someone you do not know or expect. But at 2:10 in the morning — JUST DON’T!

John – This also shows that criminals are targeting communities that they don’t think will fight back.

Fast Food Worker Uses Gun To Ask If There’ll Be Anything More?
In Canton, Ohio, a pulled his own gun when threatened by two armed suspects. The two drove off quickly with the clerk’s response to their order. The suspects, who police did not provide a description for, are wanted for attempted aggravated robbery. The police report did not indicate if they got fries with that.

Listener e-mail discussion

The 1st email is from Peter in Virginia

Hi folks, When/how do you transition from teaching kids Stop, don’t touch, tell an adult and leave the area to the four rules?

My oldest, who turns 5 on Monday, has recently shown a big interest in guns. She got the Eddie Eagle spiel at preschool this past year (I think it was when they had a fireman come in and talk to her class) and we’ve been reinforcing it constantly, whenever she brings up guns.

I finally showed her my collection tonight, after another Eddie Eagle reinforcement, and another couple in the middle and end. I just showed her what each of them was, a little about how they worked, and how to hold/shoulder them. I don’t have a cricket or anything, so she couldn’t really hold any of them, but I let her look through the scope of my Ruger 77-22, which was my first rifle around 30 years ago. She already has a thing for “spotting scopes”, brought on, I think, from cartoons, so she was fascinated. Then Mommy walked in the room and she said, “I want to look at Mommy through the spotting scope”.

Well, that’s pretty much the impetus for the email. We told her, basically, Rule 2, then reinforced the Eddie Eagle thing again, and told her not to tell her friends (which won’t happen, but at least she’s not in school yet, so she may have time to forget before then, and certainly can’t say “I played with Daddy’s guns last night”.)

My current thoughts are:

  1. Reinforce Eddie Eagle every time she brings up guns.
  2. Make her tell me the Eddie Eagle rules, without prompting, before getting to see them again.
  3. When I show her, teach her Rule 2, and reinforce beforehand, and if necessary during.
  4. She doesn’t get the mechanisms yet, so rule 1 and 3 are over her head, but once she gets what the trigger does, I’ll add 3.

Ya’ll have any thoughts on how to handle it better? I know there’s a video out there on Kkds and guns that got brought up on the podcast a while back, that I’m going to find and watch soon, but anything else?

Next we got another email from Clayton in Minnesota

Alright grumblers here is some gosh darn Minnesota nice for you!

Minnesota does give out non resident permits that can be applied for at any sheriff office in the state.
If you come within a couple hours of me during a visit to the great white north here, I’ll give you a “name your price” class and accept as little as a penny to show my appreciation for all your time and effort to the Polite Society Podcast. I have lots of guns and ammo we can qualify with if you don’t bring your own!

Thanks for revisiting my email, I really enjoyed the way Susan could really bring out the meaning of my words onto the air.

Best regards from the North Star State,

John do you want to mention anything from you would like to talk about?

I have a couple and they are related. You know how the anti-gunners and their progressive kin believe in never letting a tragedy go to waste? as an example of how “you don’t need a gun to stop a bad guy.” They say that this validates some anti-gun research coming from Harvard’s David Hemenway. They conveniently forget to add that the train was a “gun free zone”.

asking me to sign a Change.org petition for universal background checks. It was sent approximately 15 hours after the murders of the journalists. I pointed out the Hope seems to be the kind of guy who will surrender all principle if it gets him ahead. Hope is originally from Texas, attended a Christian high school, and then Catholic colleges for his undergraduate and graduate degrees. Despite this background, he is proudly proclaiming he won a major award from NARAL for protecting abortion funding. Pardon me if I am suffering from a little cognitive dissonance.

Gary – Rob is moving this week so he hasn’t had time to post anything on his. He is prolific though, now is a good time to get caught up. Also I have good news for Paul, . Wrong, Gary there was a problem with the 9mm so .40 S&W is delayed.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- Cleaned some guns. Dry practice. Bill Frady commented on one of my articles on his Lock and Load Radio program.

John – I’m baaack! What I thought was going to be a one week absence from the show turned into two weeks due to my mother-in-law suffering a fractured pelvis. She is on the mend and is in an acute rehab facility.

While I was gone I got to meet Charlie Foxtrot in person. We had a great time over lunch. I couldn’t thank him enough for all the help he has been to us on the podcast. As an aside – and Rob will be interested in this – Charlie has a really nice classic open cockpit sailboat.

Doc Wesson mentioned me on the last Gun Nation podcast. We are trying to get Grant Cunningham and Paul Carlson to a class in NC.

In gun related stuff, I presented my nephew with a Ruger 10/22 in stainless for his combined 18th birthday/HS graduation gift. The rifle was one that my late father-in-law had set aside for him. I just added a nice red dot sight on it. Grant was very excited to get it. I’ve also started to re-read John Ross’ classic book about the gun culture entitled .

Gary- Had a strange exception from FedEx on some ammo LuckyGunner.com was helpful with information about that. Helped some former students with their IL FCCL applications. Cleaning guns I have to put another 100 rounds through with no malfunctions before I switch over to the Para.

Rachel- Last weekend I instructed a ladies-only rifle marksmanship course at Battle Road. We set this up for some folks from A Girl & A Gun. They’re the best. I always love hanging out with those ladies. I knew it was going to be a great weekend when I was standing at the gate in the pouring rain to welcome them on the first morning, and they all came rolling in in their trucks and jeeps with big smiles on their faces, ready to work rain or shine. And we had a good deal of both! We instructors noted several differences with this line: lots of yoga mats, not so many shooting mats; almost all centerfires (mostly AR-15’s), carts for gear, and of course a different dynamic that comes with the female-only courses. Can’t wait to have the Girl & A Gun ladies out again for another shoot.

Meanwhile, we’re gearing up for more Battle Road courses this fall. There’s our Zombie Run on October 10, which is already around half-way full. Besides that, we’re looking at a precision rifle course to learn the math and science behind those sniper shots, some intro to firearms and self defense courses geared toward women, CHL classes, and as always, our normal tactical pistol and shotgun classes. I’d like to remind our listeners that we offer specialized courses tailored to your group, and we also love doing private courses. Let us know how we can help you out.

I’m also preparing for the 2-week girls’ camp that I lead, . It is August 2-14 this year and I will be teaching firearms to all the girls who come.

Paul- I need to apologize to the listeners. I did not finish editing the show Sunday night before I HAD to get to bed, so took the laptop with me to go to work on Monday. I figured that I would get some time monday or Tuesday to finish editing the show and get it uploaded, yeah right. I did not finish it until Wednesday evening, and what was supposed to be a mid week show did not release until after I got 中国体彩官方app on Saturday.

I had a GREAT time shooting with friends on Saturday morning. We had 5 new shooters! Well almost, 2 of the 5 had shot before, but not for more than 5 years and so we counted them in as among the newbies. 3 of them actually took their first handgun shots yesterday. This has brought about a bit of a dilemma for me.

I was fortunate enough to be considered among the most trained handgun shooters in our informal gathering so it fell on to me to do a safety briefing and help the newer shooters out. I absolutely fell in love with helping them.

One thing that I have always asserted is that I am NOT a firearms instructor. I got involved with handgun shooting to protect myself and my family and started the podcast because I thought that I could help make a difference in the direction that our nation was headed. I don’t like to follow. One reason that it took over a year and a half for us to start doing DGU stories is that I didn’t want to do the same thing that The Gun Dudes and Cam Edwards did on their shows. In the same vein a LOT of podcast hosts are trainers, and again I have never wanted to follow the pack.

Now having said all that I am actually considering going through the steps to become an instructor. I truly loved helping out the new shooters take their first steps and would like to be able to do more of it.

I got a chance to put a few magazines worth of ammo through the H&K VP9 while I was at the range. Talk about a SWEET gun! I do not like the mag release on it, but that is about the only thing that I can say negative about the gun. On slow fire at 15 feet the group that I fired could have been covered by a half dollar coin. 15 feet rapid fire could have been covered by a dollar bill, one that had been cut in half. I don’t know how but H&K has defied the laws of physics, they made a lightweight full size double stack 9mm that has next to no recoil and feels great in your hand.

Kathy Jackson class coming to Sioux Falls on August 15th and 16th. We are extending the free handgun retention class for paid class members until July 10th. If you email Susan@ad7.8f3.myftpupload.com to register and pay for your class by July 10th you get the 4 hour handgun retention class for free. this class is a $50 value.

Anti-gun Cali Senator Yee Guilty of Corruption

California Senator has long been a thorn in the side of many of the state’s citizens. He was a San Francisco hard leftist, unrestrained free-spender, and a virulent anti-gunner even by California’s wild standards. He was given an A+ rating by the Brady Bunch and named to their Gun Violence Prevention Honor Roll. So, it was a bit of a surprise when the Feds arrested the powerful, well-connected politician for corruption and gun-running.

In an , Yee was accused of providing automatic weapons and rocket propelled grenades to California’s extremely violent Chinese drug gangs. He was also accused of money laundering, murder-for-hire, and drug distribution.

This week, Yee and several confederates pled guilty to a . He could face a quarter million dollar fine and twenty years in prison. HIs primary criminal partner, tong leader Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, was not part of the plea deal. Also not included were the gun-running, money laundering, murder-for-hire, and drug distribution charges. There’s hope that these charges are being deferred to assure Yee’s cooperation in a widening investigation of California’s endemic political corruption. It is also possible that these charges will be dismissed in a dysfunctional legal system.

We can only wish Leland Yee a long and healthy life behind the bars of a Federal maximum security prison. With lots of his political friends for company.

Woman Killed by Paroled Illegal Alien With Multiple Felonies, Multiple Deportations

, 32, was shot to death at a popular San Francisco tourist spot, a victim of political correctness as surely as if the elites themselves pulled the trigger. is a hardened thug, an illegal alien deported five times, and a criminal with seven felony convictions to his record, four of them involving narcotics. He was on parole for yet another crime. Francisco Sanchez, 45, is a reprehensible man, an evil man. Yet, he was allowed to traverse the border and country中国体彩官方app seemingly at will, stay here illegally, and largely avoid any significant punishment for his crimes. The first day of July, a man that should have been behind bars or a thousand miles away, took a gun he wasn’t allowed to have as a felon, in a city that is largely a gun-free zone, and went to a tourist attraction looking for someone to kill. There, without a word, he shot a random stranger through the heart.

Sanchez’ latest outrage started in March, when he was turned over to San Francisco police on an outstanding drug warrant by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE officials issued a detainer at that time, requesting notification prior to his release so arrangements could be made to take custody. However, ICE knew that San Francisco had declared itself a “sanctuary city” and that the request would not be honored. ICE effectively, cynically washed their hands of him. Sanchez was also in violation of his ongoing Texas parole. His legal status, his prior convictions, his parole violations didn’t matter: San Francisco released him on an unsuspecting public.

A few weeks later, Katy Steinle, a beautiful, vibrant young woman lay dying in a pool of her own blood, begging her distraught father to help her.

There can be no better – or worse – reason why we fight for our Second Amendment Rights. No greater proof of why we must be our own first responders. We. Are. On. Our. Own. We cannot afford to do otherwise. Not when our own governments favor criminals over the law abiding. Not when feel-good sentiments trump reason and justice. Not when our governments seek to remove our most effective means of self-defense against the evil they nurture.

TV News Crews Robbed at Gunpoint While Filming Story of San Francisco Pier Shooting

Further illustrating just how well San Francisco’s draconian anti-gun policies are working; several at gunpoint while filming the story of Kathryn Steinle’s shooting death at the San Francisco Embarcadero. Three males in dark clothing, one with dreadlocks, participated in the early morning attack. They drove a late-model BMW with aftermarket rims and no license plates. The armed attack resulted in several injuries and a significant loss of TV station property. This seem completely implausible, as San Francisco is almost entirely a gun-free zone.

It’s hard, okay – impossible, not to indulge in a bit of . The city’s media have long been eager supporters of Frisco’s many harsh and intrusive anti-gun laws. Law-abiding citizens find it difficult to legally possess a firearm for protection even within their own 中国体彩官方apps. The lawless find no impediment, as the TV news crews can testify. Our glee is somewhat tempered, as this event will undoubtedly lead to still more ineffective anti-gun proposals to limit the rights of the law-abiding. But, that’s life in Baghdad by the Bay.

Kansas is Now a Constitutional Carry State

As of July 1st, Kansas is a Constitutional Carry state! The recent NRA backed bill provided for permitless concealed carry became effective the first day of July. Kansas already enjoyed open carry.

Congratulations, Jayhawkers! You’ve made us proud!

Rachel: OK, NRA. You backed permitless carry for Kansas? What about Texas?

One in Three ‘Muricans Owns Guns

Columbia University recently published a study on gun ownership. Interestingly, the study was performed by an assistant professor of of epidemiology. That’s the science that studies the patterns, causes, and effects of disease conditions. Could it be… biased? Yet, the study found mostly positive results for gun owners. The study holds that one out of three Americans owns a gun. Ownership by state ranges from Alaska’s high of 61.7 percent to the lows of Delaware’s 5.2 percent. Most gun owners were white males 55 and above (guilty!) and the majority were married (Guilty and sentenced to life.)

Anti-gunners have claimed for years that rising gun sales, soaring concealed carry applications, and record breaking background check figures all indicate that gun ownership was shrinking. The study claimed that approximately 1 in 5 Americans owned a gun and that the number was diminishing.

None of the studies seem to take into account that Americans often refuse to admit to owning a gun when asked by an unrecognized voice on the telephone (Oh so guilty!)

‘Muricans Don’t Want Gun Control Discussed in 2016 Elections

A Suffolk University/USA TODAY survey finds that Americans do not want gun control to be a significant portion of the 2016 election discussions. The survey was performed just a week after the attack on the Charleston Emanuel AME church. 52 to 43% do not want further gun control discussions. Similarly, 56 to 40% do not believe expanded background checks would reduce mass shootings.

The Suffolk study comes months after the PEW study that found the majority of Americans supported gun rights rather than more gun control: 52 to 46%. The Suffolk study supports the PEW study and further confounds the challenges by Bloomberg and the Huffington Post.

You know, it’s a bit disconcerting, although nice, to be in the majority for a change. ;^)’

Chris P. Cream Christie Creates Panel to Delay Changes to NJ Gun Laws

Showing none of the aggressive, decisive behavior he’s known for around the buffet table, New Jersey Governor Chris to recommend possible changes to New Jersey gun laws. This is a rather transparent way of avoiding any of the substantive changes he could make to New Jersey’s abusive and unConstitutional gun laws. Christie is obviously feeling a little pressure in his ample hindquarters from the Carol Bowne killing. Her tragic death points a finger at New Jersey’s deliberate mishandling of the CCW permit process.

Show friend Frank Fiamingo of the believes that Christie could write an executive order accepting self-defense as a justifiable need to carry arms. Christie could also address the unlawful delays in answering the request for a CCW.

Christie’s use of the advisory panel is just a way of providing cover while he attempts to position himself as a conservative presidential candidate. It is disingenuous in the extreme, disrespectful of the memory of Carol Bowne, and smacks of contempt for lawful gun owners and the Second Amendment. It will be a cold day in the fat farm before many gun owners vote for Christie. Choke on your overfed ambitions, big guy.

What to Do When Your Doctor Asks About Your Guns
Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership (DR GO) is out with recommendations of . Surprisingly, they don’t recommend lying like a rug, but instead favor a graduated response ranging from a polite refusal to answer the questions to submitting a complaint to the doctor’s licensing board. It’s all very interesting reading, especially when the Feds have access to everyone’s medical records. The link can be found in the show notes.

damn lies and statistics

The tyrant Joseph Stalin famously said “Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes decide everything.” The same can be said of statistics when the United States murder rate is compared to other countries.

For example, England and Wales do not count murders in their statistic unless there’s a conviction. The U.S. could cut its murder statistics in half simply by adopting the same practice. That shows that country中国体彩官方app to country中国体彩官方app comparisons are hardly comparing apples with apples. What these statistics won’t show us is that the trend in homicide with a firearm have been going down in the US as gun ownership increased, and going up in Britain as they banned civilian ownership of handguns. Gun-related crime has doubled in England and Wales in the past ten years. While the armed homicide rate in the US dropped by 40 percent over the last 25 years.

CNN Anchor Saved By The Gun

Thank you to listener Anthony for sending this in.

It’s fortunate that two former CNN On-Air personalities didn’t believe the anti-gun rhetoric spouted by their past employer. CNN anchor and her correspondent husband were . Their assailant was a convicted criminal wanted for violating his Memphis parole.

Russell had left the hotel room to get something from her car. surprised Russell with a gun to the head and forced her back into the room, throwing her on the bed and demanding her valuables. de Caro emerged naked and dripping from the shower into that desperate scene. Russell relates; “The man was just wild. He was pointing the gun, and the way that he was acting, it was as if he’d done it before. I suddenly realized that it wouldn’t bother him at all to pull the trigger.” Fortunately, both Russell and de Capo were concealed carry permit holders and had their firearms in the motel room.
For a time, it looked like the thief would be content with de Caro’s briefcase. But he turned around and opened fire. “My husband returned fire. And he’s a better shot.” said Russell. Police reported that multiple rounds were fired by each man. de Caro was hit twice in the abdomen and once in the leg. However, he was indeed the better shot, as the assailant stopped his attack and staggered into the parking lot, where he died. de Caro was taken to an area hospital and is expected to make a complete recovery.

Many media outlets reported that Russell and de Caro had CCW permits. Although, the ever-partisan New York Times hid the the fact of their CCW permits in the story’s last paragraph. CNN conveniently forgot to mention that their former employees were legally carrying firearms. However, we will commend Russell and de Caro for recognizing that the Cable New Network’s anti-gun agitprop was and is the stuff of nonsense. Believing that idiocy can get you killed — on the street — or in a Motel 6.

One Dead, One Wounded, Five Saved in Las Vegas

Using the ol’ “My car is broken, can I use your phone?” ploy, a woman tricked a child into opening the front door of a Las Vegas 中国体彩官方app. past Tiffany Carter, AKA Tarnesha Harris, who had forced the door and grabbed the child to silence him. Armed with a stolen pistol, Willie M. Pro ran down a hallway and kicked open the door of a bedroom.

That’s when their carefully planned 中国体彩官方app invasion was literally blown off the rails.

Behind Door Number One was Jesus Sanchez. Jesus was armed. Jesus! (You shouldn’t include the exclamation. It was too tempting for an itinerant wordsmith. ;^)’ ) Pro staggered back into the hallway, wounded. However, he still had his handgun, and with the child nearby and in danger, Sanchez fired another telling shot. The badly wounded suspect dropped his pistol, turned and ran toward his getaway vehicle.

The 12-year-old managed to get Harris’ hands from his mouth and scream for help. A mother’s instinct drove Sofia Velado from her bedroom. The obsessively-focused Harris ran into the room to steal Velado’s purse. Once back in the hallway, Harris struggled with Velador, forcing several shots by Sanchez. Finally breaking off her attack, the wounded Harris crawled to the car and escaped. But not before Sanchez fired a shot from an AK-47 at the fleeing felons.

Police arrived at the 中国体彩官方app several minutes later to find Sanchez outside, standing guard with his AK-47. Fortunately, he immediately followed the cops’ instructions and dropped the rifle. While evaluating the confusing scene, police received a call from a hospital about two people with multiple gunshot wounds. Willie M. Pro died from his wounds. Harris was flown to a trauma center in critical condition.

Tarnesha Harris will likely survive her gunshots. She has been booked for conspiracy, attempted murder, 中国体彩官方app invasion and robbery, all with a deadly weapon. She and her deceased accomplice were found to possess extensive criminal records, although relatively little punishment. Thanks to the actions of Jesus, the Velador family survived their hellish 中国体彩官方app-invasion.

There’s a lot to be learned from this chaotic self-defense situation: Never allow a door to be opened for a stranger. Have a weapon at the ready. Criminals may stick to their goals even when the stuffing has hit the fan. Pistols are not guaranteed stoppers. When you can, go for the long-gun. Follow the cops’ commands immediately. And when the criminals break off their attack and are no longer a threat, for dog’s sake, let them go. All that being said, we unreservedly commend Sanchez for his actions which saved the four other members of his family.

Man Shoots Grandma and Pays for It

Tuesday morning when he got into an argument with her. The argument became heated and Coleman shot his grandmother in the leg causing her to crash her car into a telephone pole. Hearing the crash, Steve Sellers, a former Mecklenburg County prosecutor, came out to investigate.

He saw Coleman still holding the gun on his grandmother. Sellers told Coleman to drop the firearm and when Coleman didn’t, shot him. Both Coleman and his grandmother were taken to Carolinas Medical Center where Coleman later died. His grandmother is expected to recover.

While the case is being reviewed by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office, North Carolina law allows you to intervene if someone’s life is being threatened.

Alabama 中国体彩官方app Invasion Goes Bad….For The 中国体彩官方app Invaders

on Monday afternoon. This awoke the tenant who was sleeping in his second-floor apartment. Fortunately, he was able to arm himself with a handgun. The would-be victim shot one of the alleged burglars, and both suspects ran out of the apartment and jumped over the second floor railing trying to flee the scene.

Courtney Campbell, 24, died of his wounds in the parking lot of the complex. His accomplice, Marcus McCall, 25, broke several bones in his jump but was still able to drive away. The tenant immediately called police with a description of McCall and the getaway car. They stopped him less than a mile away. for his injuries at a local hospital.

McCall is charged with 1st Degree Burglary as well as Felony Murder. The murder charge comes because his accomplice died in the commission of the crime.

. Alabama’s “stand your ground” law allows people to use deadly force against a burglar who is about to use deadly physical force. The head of the Tuscaloosa Homicide Unit said that both Campbell and McCall were armed and had covered their faces with a bandanna and a hoodie. He also also said the tenant appears to have known one of the 中国体彩官方app invaders.

Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Last week I wrote an article about the fantasy of gun control. I said gun control advocates were crazy. This week I wrote about the reality of gun control and said gun control advocates were liars. The article is titled “” I also reposted articles by Kurt Hofmann and Russell Smith. I recommend them.

My next article is about this golden age of self-defense instruction, and I’d like to thank Kathy Jackson for the sanity check, and thank Mark Richardson at the NRA for the statistics. You can find my articles at Ammoland, at Clash Daily, and on my blog at Slowfacts dot wordpress dot com.

John do you want to mention anything off of your blog, you would like to talk about?

We have talked about the efforts to recall NJ Senate President Stephen Sweeney a number of times. As with most stories relating to gun control, they had to have a comment from the gun prohibitionists for “balance”. I think the guy that they quoted, Bryan Miller of Ceasefire NJ, must have had the taste of sour grapes in his mouth. He said that having 200 people at the NJ2AS event wasn’t “an impressive number”. Actually, I think he was jealous because the gun grabbers never get that many people at their events even when they pay them and bus them in.

Paul – Did some more looking at campers this morning. not much gun related. been absorbing the news of the week. Looking at ordering a new belt for Susan to use at the Kathy Jackson class.

Rob- Did you consider Jason’s belts?

There are 2 things that I want to address before we go off into the news segment, although they both are technically news that relate to guns.

First is the statement by the pope that came out just about the time we were supposed to go to air last week and so we weren’t able to properly vett the story to make sure that it was a real story. It was a real story.

I was born and raised in the Catholic church. I now consider myself a Christian not connected to any particular church. I believe in the bible and not what people have inserted as “doctrine” I would like to read some of the pope’s comments as reported on

Pope Francis of young people at a rally of thousands at the end of the first day of his trip to the Italian city of Turin.

Francis started by attacking the Right to Keep and Bear Arms as well as accusing the allies during World War Two of being complicit in the killing of Jews, Christians and homosexuals.

Francis issued his toughest condemnation to date of the weapons industry, saying.

“If you trust only men you have lost,” he told the young people in a long, rambling talk about war, trust and politics after putting aside his prepared address.

“It makes me think of … people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn’t it?” he said to applause.

He also criticized those who invest in weapons industries (gun owners), saying “duplicity is the currency of today … they say one thing and do another.”

Francis also built on comments he has made in the past about events during the first and second world wars.

He spoke of the “tragedy of the Shoah,” using the Hebrew term for the Holocaust.

“The great powers had the pictures of the railway lines that brought the trains to the concentration camps like Auschwitz to kill Jews, Christians, homosexuals, everybody. Why didn’t they bomb (the railway lines)? (end of ammoland story)

There is something that I believe his holiness has forgotten, that evil does exist in the world. Edmund Burke is quoted as saying “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” The pope seems to be like the liberals who are at work right here in America, he thinks that if we click our heels three time and say there is no place like 中国体彩官方app that everything will be alright.

Ladies and gentlemen, everything will not be alright. American, and indeed world history is replete with examples of disarmament leads to slavery or even worse death.

I am sorry that a man (and the pope is a man) is in charge of the catholic church that I grew up in and had a great deal of respect for. Popes are supposed to serve a lifetime, I will never wish ill on any human, however I can only hope that this man decides like his predecessor that the papacy is too much for him and retire early. I would like to say to my fellow Christians to pray like it depends on God and prepare like it depends on you.

The armory of the Swiss Guard who protect the Vatican.

Secondly there was a major ruling from the Supreme court late in the week that proclaimed through the 14th amendment that all states must allow gay marriage. What does this have to do with guns? Well there are many that are saying that with the language in the ruling that the 14th amendment would also require a concealed carry permit issued in one state to be accepted by all. And I have to say that there are strong arguments for this. I would like to caution our listeners strongly, that right now that is a THEORY, not tested in court. I will not be the test case, I encourage you not to as well. The SAF is tuning up right now to introduce lawsuits to that effect.

I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Seg 2- News

Police chief advocates civilian disarmament in Saint Petersburg, Florida.

Two Tampa Bay Florida real estate agents were robbed at gunpoint this month. One was shackled at her hands and feet while the attacker made ransom demands to the victim’s husband. Police admit that agents have a dangerous job. St. Petersburg police Chief Tony Holloway said real estate agents, particularly women, because the criminal would only take their gun and use it against them.

Paul- Wait a minute. Female agents are the same as any other women in their ability to defend themselves.

Rob- Maybe Florida laws are different. I have a Florida carry license instructor to talk with us.

Dramatic Rise in Crime After UK Ban Guns

The blog has an interesting analysis of the increase in violent crime after the UK’s total ban on handguns and severe restriction on all other firearms. The ban was a knee-jerk reaction to their Dunblane massacre. It is certainly interesting reading in light of the efforts attempting to capitalize on the Charleston tragedy. The link can be found in our show notes.

NY State Residents Disobeying Cuomo’s Registration Scheme

“One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws.” From his cell in the Birmingham jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote those words that are being taken to heart by New York State residents. of New York State’s 20 million residents have registered their so-called assault weapons since Cuomo’s SAFE act took effect in 2013. Less than 45 thousand rifles have been registered. Law enforcement estimates there are. The citizens are engaging in civil disobedience even though failure to register is a felony, punishable by up to four years in prison.

Cuomo rammed his though the legislature weeks after the Sandy Hook tragedy. The act was an anti-gun activist’s dream: a ban on high-capacity magazines, universal background checks, stolen gun reporting, safe storage, mental health provisions, warrantless firearm seizures, ammunition sales checks, as well as the key registration requirement. Tellingly, NONE of the provisions, even if followed exactly by the madman, would have prevented the shooting at Sandy Hook.

“Many people have been calling for a full repeal of the SAFE Act. It would appear the people have just bypassed the legislature and simply repealed it on their own,” said Tom King, of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association. Communities and LEOs outside of New York City seem to be ignoring or openly challenging the Governor’s draconian law.

While we cannot tell New York’s residents to resist this unjust law – that would be illeeeeeeegal – we can certainly applaud the State’s residents who are adhering to Thomas Jefferson’s words; “If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.”

Rob- 950 THOUSAND New York gun owners told the Governor to shove it. Cuomo is only the Governor of Albany and New York city, but not the rest of the state.
More Anti-Gun Stupidity

Leading Democrat adviser led with his tongue when he opined that the Emanuel shooting would have been a “” if the black parishioners were armed. On MSNBC’s The Ed Show, Shrum said QUOTE “I cannot imagine the horror that could have occurred if people were sitting around with concealed weapons, this thing started, and you have a full-scale gunfight.” END QUOTE

The mind boggles. Experience shows that resisting a madman significantly decreases the death toll. Even if unsuccessful, the nine still would have died. And the concealed carrier would have died on their feet, rather than on their knees.

Taking Shrum at his word, the advisor to Teddy Kennedy, Carter, Gore and Kerry would rather see the parishioners completely disarmed, defenseless and good little victims, rather than fighting for their lives. As insane as this sounds, this IS one of the anti’s core beliefs. They believe that it is somehow morally preferable to be the victim, rather than acting in self-defense. As rational beings, we absolutely reject this dehumanizing belief.

Rob- Gun prohibition is a superstition, and the anti-rights advocates live in a fantasy world.

Bill to Restrict 中国体彩官方app Assembled Firearms Proposed
Another in our Cavalcade of Legislative Stupidity, this one somehow not authored by Carolyn Maloney, is the . This bill would prohibit of the sale of certain firearm receiver castings or blanks, assault weapon parts kits, and machine gun parts kits (what?) and prohibit the marketing of the items on any medium of electronic communications. The parts would be banned as hazardous products under the Consumer Product Safety Act. Enforcement would come via the Federal Trade Commission. It would eliminate the 中国体彩官方app hobbyist who assembles a completely legal firearm out of commercially available parts.

The bill mentions semi-automatic rifles and semi-automatic pistols, and is an unique thrust in the effort to disarm Americans. Our response should be the same. However, the amount of tar and feathers involved would certainly be an environmental disaster. HR- 376

Collectible Firearms Protection Act.

Not all legislation sinks to the level of Carolyn Maloney or Mario Cuomo. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) recently introduced H.R. 2611, the “.” This bill would reverse the Obama/ Kerry State Department’s decision blocking the reimportation of M1 Garands and M1 Carbines from South Korea. The completely legal firearms would then be sold commercially to the American people. The Obama administration also opposes l to allow the CMP to sell the Army’s excess 1911s. All these firearms were paid for by the American taxpayer, and we would like to remind our rulers that we own them.

You can contact your U.S. Representative to support this legislation by using the NRA/ILA’s tool or calling (202) 224-3121. You can also register your opinion at

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker To Sign Two Bills Expanding Gun Rights

In a clear victory for gun-rights advocates, Wisconsin governor Scott Walker signed bills to eliminate the state’s 48-hour waiting period for gun purchases and to allow off-duty police officers to carry concealed weapons on public school grounds.

Congratulations Cheese-Heads!

Rob- Let me get this right. The school staff would call the police if the school was attacked. They call the police because the police carry guns and could stop the attack. Somehow, this bill was considered a great act of political courage to allow the police to carry their guns in school before the attack? This is not a moment for congratulations but for shame. I want to find the idiot politician who told the police they could not go armed in our public schools.

(Denver, Colorado) – In yet another decision that thumbs its nose at the Supreme Court’s landmark D.C. v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago rulings, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals held today that the Second Amendment does not protect gun rights outside of one’s 中国体彩官方app. The case, Bonidy v. United States Postal Service, challenged the statute (39 C.F.R. § 232.1(l),) which prohibits the storage and carriage of firearms on USPS property. The district court decision found that the law was unconstitutional as applied to its prohibition on guns in parking lots, but not the ban on carry inside government buildings.

Gary – As I was reading this my thought was what about the people that are walking to all prohibited locations. Don’t they have the right to self-defense?

“The possession, carrying and use of firearms require not only training and skill, but intelligence and responsibility. When persons act with deficiency in intelligence and responsibility, it can be both dangerous and unlawful.” Police Chief Leonard Papania of Gulfport, MS said.

Carl Chinn– at 4:30 central time.

You’ve studied violence in Churches. You were on the scene for a violent attack in the lobby of Focus on the Family. You also were working at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs when it was attacked. Since then you’ve kept an exhaustive list of violent attacks that occur on church property.

Tell us about the path a church takes to address physical security. What are the steps to success? I’m guessing the subject gets brought to the church board or leadership team. What happens next?

Is an active defense similar to concerns the church already faces such as medical first responders and physical security?

The church leadership gathers information to understand the problem?

They select staff to address it?

Staff brings them a proposal?

Outside training?

On site training?

Ongoing recruitment?

What does the church have to do to succeed long term?

I was at a large local church, and to put one security person behind each gathering would take 20 volunteers. What about the men’s group that meets mid week? The new mom’s group? A successful church is filled with life all the time. That means you need volunteers from every group.

We’ve had almost a thousand attacks on churches in the last 5 years. To me that is a wake up call. Talk about the pastors and leadership teams who won’t address security. What excuses do they use to justify inaction?

Why do security teams fail long term?

Dan Roberts-

New Jersey Senator Steve Sweeney faces a well deserved recall drive that started yesterday. An hour after the New Jersey Second Amendment Society announced where they would rally to start the recall, the venue owner called them up and cancelled on them. They had that venue and date reserved for the last two months. Several other venues refused the group fearing political retribution from the democrat controlled bureaucrats.

350 people showed up to collect signatures. It was raining on the signature gatherers as they went house to house. Many 中国体彩官方apps were empty since the power has been out in some areas for several days. Surprisingly, some union members and government employees were eager to sign the recall while anyone who needed a permit to operate their business refused to sign. About a quarter of the people on the list signed the petition to recall Senator Sweeney.

“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny.” and New Jersey citizens are afraid of their government.

Domino’s Driver Shoots Assailant
Just after midnight, a Hollywood, Florida Domino’s driver was forced to defend his life with a firearm. Two men attacked the driver in a robbery attempt. The driver pulled his gun and fired six shots at the men, killing one of them. s that at least eight Domino’s drivers had been shot–three of those killed–since the start of 2012. Many more have been assaulted, kidnapped or raped.

Domino’s Pizza will not comment on the ongoing investigation. Domino’s continues their policy of barring drivers from being armed for self-defense. We continue to feel there are other pizza restaurants.

Benihana Shoot-Out
The parking lot was the scene of an armed robbery and shootout this week. Two people were leaving the upscale Japanese restaurant when they were approached by a man asking for a lighter. The man then slipped on a mask and pulled a gun from his waistband. A victim retrieved his firearm from his vehicle and six to eight shots were exchanged. The robber was pronounced dead at an area hospital, the victim is in stable condition.

Both men were young black males. It is not known if this was a targeted crime or random. Police are focusing on a white Camaro in the parking lot, found with a handgun nearby. Neither police nor Benihana employees are forthcoming. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

中国体彩官方appowner Shoot Armed Car Burglar
A Milwaukee, Wisconsin man was forced to shoot a car burglar in self defense. The man challenged a thief burglarizing his car. The thief pulled a gun and the car owner pulled one right back and shot. The thief ran away and was arrested in an area hospital. The DA will decide if charges will be pressed against the car owner.

Police Arrive to Find a Hog-Tied Suspect
While not strictly a DGU, the following shows that we are the weapon, the gun – or a vase – are the tools.

A heard “that noise” very early in the morning. He found a man climbing through an upstairs window, who asked the 中国体彩官方app-owner if he wanted his grass cut. Justifiably outraged at the aggressive sales tactic, the 中国体彩官方appowner brained the door-to-door salesman with a nearby vase. Police arrived to find the man hog-tied with a garden hose. The twenty-two year old is charged with burglary, theft and disorderly conduct. He is also the suspect in a recent string of local burglaries.

While we never want to be in a self-defense situation, the ability to smack a pushy salesman, even a pretend one, is certainly tempting.

Rob- It has been a busy week at the slow facts blog. I wrote four articles covering the murders in Charleston and having guns in church. I also posted a fairly long article talking about the marketing aspects of gun control.
