Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)
Rob- This is our personal news segment. Rachel is traveling to a shooting event, so she isn’t with us today. Paul is training a new truck driver so he couldn’t join us either. We have Tatiana and Jenna joining us today to help with the podcast. Let’s start with John. Welcome中国体彩官方app back from SHOT show.
John- Recovering after the SHOT Show. It took me a day and a half to both get there and get 中国体彩官方app. I did get to see the Pacific Ocean on my way 中国体彩官方app from Las Vegas as well as Houston. The best part of the SHOT Show was seeing old friends and making new ones. For example, I got to finally meet Ken Kowalski of Modern Rifleman Radio and Reed Snyder of AR15 Podcast in person. I got to see our old friend Rev. Kenn Blanchard who was introducing 2AO.org which is an outreach to minorities and women. As for other old friends who I saw at the SHOT Show, I saw Tatiana there who was kind enough to pose for a selfie with me.
Tatiana- Hi, I’m Tatiana Whitlock director of training and development at Ann Arbor ARms Academy (A4), NRA Women’s Network member and firearms instructor. It was an honor to attend Shot Show this year and introduce A4 and our diverse offering of courses for those seeking foundational firearms, self defense and emergency preparedness education. The best part of the show of course, taking selfies with members of our community we only get to see at the yearly Shot Show Family Reunion!
Jenna- Hi, I’m Jenna Meek with Carry On Colorado. I am a certified MAG Use of Deadly Force Instructor and I teach alongside my husband in the greater Denver area. Our focus is on self-protection as a whole. We offer classes on violence awareness and avoidance, gun skills and the legal aftermath of a defensive shooting. I was not able to make SHOT this year as my energy has been focused on a big project, but, I was able to take enough time off to teach a Concealed Handgun Permit class this week which a was a lot of fun.
Gary – Someone posted this on Facebook. As I don’t go to SHOT I try to read the articles just to get a feel of what is happening at the show. In the first paragraph the author complains about how the show has grown, which seems like a good thing to me. In the second paragraph he says that range day sounded like the , or perhaps , with the distinctive pop-pop-pop of full-auto fire, which was extremely popular amongst all the SEAL wannabes. While I’ve never been to SHOT I did go to a couple of times to shoot full auto guns when I lived in Vegas, and I never wanted to be a SEAL. I just did it because I thought it was fun, the same reason I go on water slides. I just wanted to point out that it hurts all of us when we mock any segment of our industry. I had another start to an excellent private group concealed carry class. A student that I trained over a year ago contacted me to ask about mixing ball and hollow point ammo in his concealed carry pistol.
Rob- Carried every day. Dry practiced. Went shooting. Called a state senator in California and asked him about the delay processing Concealed Carry Applications. He is still looking into the delays. I helped Cheryl Todd get . Was a guest on Armed American Radio for two hours, and I’m shopping for a bedside gun box.
Comment – Gary – Rob, I use the and of course like you Rob, I train with all of my equipment and I’ve got to tell you after years of owning this safe it is still awkward to draw from it. I would recommend you look into or or any other where the lid opens up completely. I also will mention that Rob Pincus is a SpokesRep for GunVault and he recommends storing a semiauto with an empty chamber because you are going to be acquiring this gun typically in a groggy state.
Consider a wristband/key fob.
John- We’ll be back with the news after this break.
2- News 1
1 Pushing Back On Obama Latest Anti-Gun Executive Actions
Tatiana- Attorney General Loretta Lynch was called before the Senate Appropriations panel to defend . Lynch described the 80 million dollar efforts as “well-reasoned measures, well within existing legal authorities, built on work that’s already underway.” Obama’s actions include significantly broadening the definition of sellers the government will consider “in the business” of selling firearms. Even those selling a few guns online or at gun shows could be required to get their FFL license and perform background checks. Other actions include requiring doctors to inform the FBI of patients suspected of mental illness, and thus eliminating their patients 2nd Amendment rights forever.
Committee chairman Richard Shelby said quote “This subcommittee will have no part in undermining the Constitution and the rights that it protects.” The Appropriations panel was largely divided along party lines. However, in another committee Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) by urging her fellows to; “…Solve the problem. Let’s not get involved in Constitutional arguments.” We fear that Mikulski is not alone in her off-handed dismissal of the Constitution.
At the same time, Obama was named in the first lawsuit his anti-gun executive actions. Freedom Watch accused Obama of circumventing Congress to “invent” new gun laws. Quote “These actions are unconstitutional abuses of the president’s and executive branch’s role in our nation’s Constitutional architecture.” Also named as defendants were Loretta Lynch and Thomas Brandon, director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Summarizing her testimony, Lynch told the senators she has “no illusions that these measures by themselves will end gun violence in America.” and we have to agree with her.
John – Given that the Clinton Admin cut down on 中国体彩官方app based or kitchen table FFLs, this seems to reverse it.
Rob- other than excusing long delays at atf and fbi
john- 2 Fast and Furious 50 Cal Found in El Chapo’s Hideout
Speaking of gun control, or lack of same, Obama’s discredited Operation Fast and Furious is once again in the news. A in drug warlord El Chapo’s hideout when raided by Mexican Marines, and traced back to the ATF program. The .50 caliber gun is powerful enough to take down a helicopter or stop a car in the breathless prose of the media. Obama’s administration provided the 50 cal and thousands more guns to the drug cartels as Obama tried to discredit American gun owners and gather support for additional anti-gun measures. The thousands of weapons illegally given to the cartels have been directly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Mexican citizens and two American law enforcement officers. The weapons have been found at crime scenes from Mexico to Texas, Arizona and California.
Former Attorney General Eric Holder was held in Contempt of Congress for refusing to provide Fast and Furious documents to the investigation. Holder was allowed to retire. Obama declared that the required records were covered by his executive privilege. That executive order was immediately challenged in Federal court. Now, a federal judge has Obama’s assertion of executive privilege. The judge didn’t question Obama’s privilege claim, but ruled that the claim could not be sustained because of the other information the Justice Department had already released, namely.
The judge will hear more arguments before ordering the documents released. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said the Operation Fast and Furious documents could and his staff. It would be up to the incoming administration to choose to deal with the crimes that have cost so many people their lives. The memory of Agent Brian Terry demands nothing less.
John – Even if Congress does get the documents, a lot will depend on Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the new chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, actually doing something with them. While he has talked a good game, he hasn’t been on this like Darrell Issa.
Rob 3 FBI stops appeals for NICS checks
The rate of gun sales has more than doubled since June. We are selling over 3.3 million firearms a month. That overwhelmed the ability of the FBI to process “instant” background checks.. and I put quotes around the word “instant”. Several things are happening here. Investigators have less time to separate you from a prohibited person with a similar name, separate you from an illegal alien who is using your social security number, and separate your information from the prohibited person that used to live at your address. The investigators produce more incorrect rejections. You can appeal your rejection if you think you’ve been falsely denied, but the FBI stopped processing appeals in October.
.. again. The Brady Law that created the background check system gives the FBI 5 days to provide an explanation for the background check rejection and to correct errors in their records. They don’t, and they won’t. Not this Obama Administration.
This is why the state and local laws are critically important. Some state laws don’t require a background check for some purchasers, say if you have a carry permit for example, or if you’re buying from another private seller. Some states give the federal government three days to explain why you were denied. The sale can proceed after three days unless the government provides an explanation. Other states require that you pass the background check. In those states, all the government has to do is stop processing background checks and then gun sales stop.
Rob- This bothers me. It is time we write laws that assume the government is corrupt and incompetent. Credit card companies process a thousand times more data than the FBI. When was the last time their system went down? Also, why do I have to prove that I’m not a felon? The list of prohibited persons is small. It would fit on a flash drive. Again, I like the green stripe idea that shows I’m a card carrying good guy. It acts like a concealed carry permit in that it shows you’ve passed a background check.
John – Does your LA permit allow you to purchase without a NICS check?
Jenna- TX did, last I knew
Gary- 4 Gun owners are everywhere!
Some news media reluctantly admit there are a record number of guns being sold, but they claim that the number of gun owners is decreasing as fewer and fewer gun owners buy more and more guns. The data says otherwise.
This is from our colleague Dean Weingarten who posts at Last year, the number of legal Massachusetts legal gun owners increased nearly 8 percent. We have this data because all legal gun owners require a state license. Massachusetts is part of a small and shrinking minority of states that requires each gun owners to be licensed. The number of licenses increased by 7.8 percent from this time last year.
There is also a hint from a related trend. The total number of private guns in the United States has increased by about 90 million in the last seven years. At the same time, the number of people who are willing to admit to gun ownership in national polls has varied considerably. Some polls have shown gun ownership up, some have shown it going down. The issue is clouded because polls ask different questions; some about whether there is a gun in the house; others as to whether the person answering the poll owns a gun. Massachusetts serves as an example of hard evidence because the state requires a license to own a gun and we can easily count the number of licenses each year. If more guns are going into fewer hands, the number of Massachusetts gun licenses would be decreasing. That growth is a trend, not a fluke. The number of gun licenses in Massachusetts since 2010. Other states that register gun owners also show strong increases. In Illinois, the number has , from a little over 1 million in 2010, to 1.8 million in 2015.
It is possible, but extremely unlikely that gun ownership increased in restrictive states that license gun owners, but decreased in states with fewer restrictions.
Rob- What do our instructors say? Are you busy?
Jenna 5- City of Lowell Massachusetts says you have to submit a written essay before you can buy a gun. It is surprising that gun ownership has increased as much as it has in Massachusetts since some cities restrict our right to carry. The police superintendent of Lowell Massachusetts gets to make firearms policy. He has said you need a training course and to write an essay explaining your prior law enforcement experience or your military training before you can have a carry permit. The accepted training courses are offered once a year, take five days, and cost over $1,100 dollars. The city council approved the chief’s recommendations.
A local newspaper looked at the fraction of people with carry permits in different Massachusetts cities. Lowell was in the bottom 20 percent.
Gary- Their harassment works. John Lott said that it is the poor people who most need guns for self-defense. Poor people are the ones who can least afford to take a week off and pay thousands of dollars to take a course, write a recommendation, pay license fees, and buy an approved gun. That is why the number of carry permits are down.
Rob- This is racist. In United States anti-discrimination law, the theory of disparate impact holds that practices in employment, housing, or other areas may be considered discriminatory and illegal if they have a disproportionate “adverse impact” on persons in a protected class. Labor law says the difference is enough evidence and a plaintiff does not have to show intent. A rich man can ask his lawyer to go to the courthouse and search through past applications to see what reasons the police superintendent has found acceptable and which ones he rejects. A rich man can pay for private instruction. The poor can’t. There are particularly severe monetary penalties when a city is shown to discriminate.
John- That assumes a judge actually tries the case on evidence.. and the judge doesn’t wave his hand and say this is simply another tax, and taxes are allowed. There is no proof that any of these restrictions do anything to reduce crime. Our friend David Jensen is already looking at the case.
Jenna- am I understanding that you have to have had LEO or military experience to qualify for a permit
John – Massachusetts has a series of different permits.
Rob- The rules of engagement, the justifiable use of force is different.
John- take us to break
3- News 2
john 6- US Air Force says guns allowed on Base The air force looked at active shooters who attacked men in uniform. Then they told their base commanders that they can There are three existing programs that commanders can use.
They are the Unit Marshal Program (UMP), Security Forces Staff Arming (SF) and Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) programs. Under the Unit Marshall Program, unit commanders can have airman to train under Security Forces personnel and open-carry an M9 pistol at their duty location.
Rob- I was struck by what the air force brass didn’t say after I read the reports. They supported open carry on duty. They did not recommend concealed carry. They did not recommend to carry when they are in base housing off duty. They didn’t support licensed airmen carrying their personal weapon on and off base and to store their weapon on base. They did not tell base commanders what they should do, only what they could do. The air force is intensely political. This looks like a move by the senior Air Force officers to deflect blame if there is an attack on an air force base.
John- This is only a political solution. US soldiers were attacked off base in Germany at the end of the cold-war and probably will be again with the rise of ISIS. Airmen need to defend themselves all the time and everywhere. A good commander would care about the safety of his airmen both on and off base.
gary 7- Press charges so it will save one life We’ve reported similar stories. At the national level, we’ve seen 40 to 50 thousand people rejected for their instant background check. The anti-rights extremists say those were 40 to 50 thousand criminals who didn’t get a gun. They never explain why there were only a handful of convictions each year.
We see a similar trend in Delaware. There were almost 12 thousand felony firearms charges filed, but only 36 hundred were ever brought to trial. This means that violent felons served much less time than they should have. This puts violent felons back on the street when they should be incarcerated. We’ve seen many examples of their next victim when the thugs are released after a plea bargain. One Delaware state senator went on the record and said there is no reason to have more gun laws when Delaware State Prosecutor Kathleen Jennings said for every repeat criminal she can provide 50 cases where weapons charges are dropped and defendants are sentenced to longer prison terms.
Gary- President Obama said we need more laws to save one life.
Rob- Democrats want it both ways. They want to be tough on crime without putting anyone in jail.
Jenna 8- Some news services miss the real story on guns
Let’s give credit to Bob Owens at Bearing Arms for highlighting this story. CNS news said that 70 percent of the firearms seized by Mexican authorities between 2009 and 2014 came from the United States. That’s not actually what really happened at all. In reality only 8 percent of the guns recovered by Mexican law enforcement came from the US. Mexico has access to the list of firearms made by US factories and sent into US distribution channels. When the Mexican government asked the ATF to confirm that the firearm was sold through a US gun dealer, the ATF confirmed the sale .
I wonder who issued a talking point to say that 70 percent of the mexican guns come from the US.
John 9- Bloomberg — for President?
Finally – we’ve got a article about America’s Nanny: Michael Bloomberg. Apparently, ex-New York mayor Bloomberg, infamous for using city government for his personal crusades against salt, fat, and dangerously sugared, high-capacity Big Gulps, is considering a . He is said to be ready to use One. Billion. Dollars. of his own money in a bid for the presidency. Reportedly, he has instructed aides to prepare plans for his run as an independent.
We pity those aides having to plan the election of one of America’s most despised men. Not only has he well-earned the disdain of America’s gun owners, he has become the pinched face of New York City progressives and nanny-staters to all of America. In polling, his negatives rank somewhere around the fungus found in public toilets.
That being said, we are completely supportive of Bloomberg’s run for the Presidency. Not only would he be too busy to mess with gun owners, but as the New York Observer , his candidacy would certainly eliminate any chance Hillary or Bernie currently enjoy. Bloomberg’s candacy would certainly split the looney-left, useful idiots now expected to vote for the Democrat offering. The nation would certainly be better for the elimination of those anti-Constitutional and anti-gun pretenders.
Run – Mikey – Run!!!
Rob- Gun Quotes- Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’ because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual. Thomas Jefferson
Rob- Hang on everybody, we’ll be back to talk about new gun owners with Tatiana Whitlock..
4- Interview 1- Tatiana Whitlock
You are the training director at Ann Arbor Arms in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We have a million new gun owners each month. What do they need to know.
They need to know they are not alone. Yes, there is a lot to learn. The great news is that even though you’re new to guns, you can learn from other people’s experience.
To start at the beginning there are basic, foundational, skills that are critical to being a safe and responsible gun owner. Rather that heading online I strongly suggest investing in a course with a certified and insured instructor at a reputable training establishment.
Many of the big ticket questions that new gun owners have relating to gun safety, handling, how guns and kids can co-exist safely in the 中国体彩官方app and storage are answered right out of the gate. At a beginner level the focus is on the logistics of gun ownership and how to safely master key skills to effectively handle and use the firearm. We start at the VERY beginning: how to pick up and handle your gun, how check it’s condition to see if it is loaded, how to load, unload and reload, what to do if your gun malfunctions, and of course the fun part – the fundamentals of sight picture, sight alignment and trigger control to get you on your way to becoming a bullseye shooter!
This is where many new firearms owners start to identify which facet of our world appeals most to them. Are you interested in competition – bullseye? Self defense and concealed carry? These are two basic sides of a coin that can help you map your personal training path.
At an intermediate level we introduce students to broader skill set that gets you moving and is a whole lot of fun! A few of the topics covered involve shooting on the move and how to engage from behind and around cover. Students learn how to shoot with accessories such as handheld or weapons mounted lights in low to no light environments. One handed shooting, back up guns, essential concealed carry skills like drawing and engaging from concealment are just a few of the topics to explore.
To generalize what an Advanced program entails the best way to explain it is that the class is NOT about the gun. Classes encompass the HOW and the WHEN and the WHY we use a gun in the worst case scenario. These are thinking classes, decision making classes, they are intended to make good gun handlers and shooters into good problem solvers and ultimately responsibly armed citizens.
If you are just starting the journey know there are many facets to the firearms world from shotgun sporting clays to bullseye pistol to close quarters combatives.
The most important thing is to INVEST in YOURSELF and continue to train over time. Keep your skills fresh and maintain your shooting abilities (which DO fade over time).
Do your 中国体彩官方appwork on your instructor of choice. Make certain that they share your personal values and have the credentials and experience to invest your time and resources with.
Bottom line – Learning to shoot is fun!
Where do our listeners find out about you?
5- Interview 2
Reed Snyder from .
Reed Snyder – Skype – areedsnyder – confirmed
Reed Snyder is the host of the AR15 Podcast, a former Marine, and a practicing attorney in Texas. Welcome中国体彩官方app back to the Polite Society Podcast.
AR-15s and their components were everywhere at the SHOT Show. Was there anything that caught your attention that was out of the ordinary?
How about stuff that has become seen to be ordinary such as rails, magazines, or stocks? Are there changes in these products that have made them stand out?
There were some new optics at the SHOT Show including Trijicon’s MRO red dot scope. Did you see this scope? What was your impression of it? What else in the way of optics?
Did you see Crimson Trace’s LINQ system which provides a wireless connection between a light/laser and the handgrip? What did you think of it?
Charlie Foxtrot who writes much of our show notes had a question – Any manufacturer suggestions for a .223 Wylde barrel, SS, fluted and 20” for a DMR-ish build?
Gary 1- Old Hunting Rifle Saves Two in a Violent 中国体彩官方app Invasion
An old family made every bit of difference when two men burst into a metro Atlanta man’s 中国体彩官方app. The man opened his door to a dinner-time knock, and was immediately knocked to the ground and pistol-whipped by one of the intruders. The other intruder viciously went after his mother, pistol-whipping and kicking her in the side.
The man’s attacker demanded money and dragged him from room to room with a pistol to his head. Dragged into the guest bedroom, he was thrown to the ground and threatened with death. There, things changed; “He put a gun to my head, and I just started fighting back.” In his desperate fight for life, the owner was able to grab his father’s old hunting rifle and start firing. Both criminals were hit, one died on the neighbor’s lawn, the other escaped, but collapsed in a restaurant’s parking lot and later died in the hospital.
Obviously saddened, shaken and bruised, the victim told the news crews that; “I feel like if I hadn’t had the gun in there, this whole news story would be about me and my mother being dead in this house. I never want to hurt anybody like that, but they put me in this situation, and I only reacted to it.”
Police found badges and zip ties on the bodies and believe they were intended to be used to impersonate police officers. The 中国体彩官方appowner will not likely face any charges. However, his mother remains in the hospital after suffering a heart attack after the assault. The attached article contains a link for donations to her medical costs.
Jenna 2- There is armed self-defense even in California-
A 中国体彩官方appowner in Redondo Beach, California shot and then detained a burglar early Tuesday morning. The 中国体彩官方appowner and a friend were in the house when his smart phone alerted him to an intruder in his detached garage. The security camera showed a man wheeling a motorcycle out of the garage.
The 中国体彩官方appowner and his friend then confronted Laurencia Gamboa, 33, who dropped the motorcycle, began to flee, then turned around, confronted the residents and that’s when the shooting occurred. Gamboa suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated at a local hospital and booked on suspicion of burglary and auto theft. Redondo Beach PD Lt. Todd Heywood said It’s unclear whether the 中国体彩官方appowner will face any charges at this time..
Rob 2b – There is armed self-defense even in Joisey
The owner of a Newark, was forced to use deadly force when confronted by an armed robber. Mark Robinson, 46, was killed during his apparent robbery of the small storefront Neighborhood Deli Supermarket. According to prosecutors, Robinson went into the deli, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the owner; who fired his gun in defense of his life. Robinson was pronounced dead at the local hospital. HIs gun was recovered at the scene.
The crime and shooting were recorded by the store’s video surveillance system. No charges have been filed.. even in new jersey.
John 3- Hands off my groceries!
18 year old Michael Clark of Mobile, Alabama picked the wrong couple to rob of their money and groceries. His mistake cost him his young life.
Clark had a gun and approached the intended victims while they were taking groceries from their car up to their apartment. Clark showed his gun and demanded they turn over their money. The intended victim gave Clark his wallet. He then drew his own weapon and shot Clark. Clark ran a short distance. Police found his body in a breezeway between apartments where police recovered the stolen wallet and a weapon.
Police are calling the shooting justified. The victim was in a place where he lawfully had a right to be. He was confronted with a dangerous situation, and he had reason to fear for his own life.
gary 4- Louisville parking lot-
A woman was sitting in her car in a parking garage in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. A man approached her, presented a knife and demanded her money. The woman reached into her purse as if she was going for her wallet. She pulled her gun instead and The man ran a few blocks and then asked for help. Bystanders called for EMTs and the woman called for police. She was unhurt. The attacker is in the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Rob- This was just after work, not at midnight. We commented that thieves would try to grab a woman’s purse, so that means a thief could disarm you if you carry off-body. here is an example where off-body carry in a purse was an advantage. NRA convention is in Louisville, but not downtown.
Gary- Let’s see a show of hands. How many of you have shot a firearm from inside a vehicle? It is very very loud.
CF – Shot a SASS yearly match that featured a run down a shipping container, shooting from several windows and doors cut into the steel walls. Even with our puffball Cowboy loads, it was damn loud. When I counted for the shooter, foamies and my shooting muffs barely made it tolerable. Soooooo….. I NEED suppressors for my 中国体彩官方app defense weapons!
Jenna 5- Barbershop
Two masked and armed crowded with customers and children. The thugs demanded money and repeatedly threatened everyone with violent death. Fortunately, two of the victims had CCW permits and were able to draw and shoot at the criminals, hitting one several times.
The two suspects ran from the barbershop. One escaped, the other dropped to the street, dying later in the hospital. None of the victims in the business were injured.
Investigators determined that one of the suspect’s weapons was stolen from a South Carolina 中国体彩官方app back in 2012.
Police do not believe they will charge the two CCW carriers who — wait for it, Shannon! — likely prevented mass-murder.
Rob 6- Two Store Employees Shoot Robber
Two employees at a Deerfield Beach, Florida convenience store suddenly found themselves in a with an armed felon. Raymond Prescott entered the store, pointed a gun at the workers and demanded money. He punctuated his demands with a shot that barely missed Hamam Alfala, 24. The store clerk dove behind the counter and grabbed a gun hidden there. “I take the gun, I shoot then duck … Shoot, shoot,” Alfala said. “I shoot him first. It’s my life.”
Another employee picked up another gun from behind the counter and also began firing at the criminal. [We were] firing back and forth, employee Dexter Leon said. “The only thing I thought of was my son. It was scary.”
A least one of the workers connected with their assailant, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives believe the dead criminal was involved in similar crimes in nearby counties. He had a criminal history of drug trafficking and – who would have guessed? – was currently on probation.
John 7- Austin TX Clerk Defends Himself – Stops Robbery – Shoots One – Two in Custody
Two criminals bit off more than they could chew at an . One armed man walked into the store, while his partner in crime remained behind the wheel of their get away van. Photos show the minivan equipped with a pine-scented air freshener and a baby seat.
As the robbery progressed, a David’s Food Store employee drew his own weapon and shot the robber. The wounded criminal stumbled back into the minivan, and the dynamic duo made good their escape. A short time later, the injured criminal called 911 from the minivan, asking for aid. Police hustled him to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds. Shortly afterward, A K-9 unit found the driver hiding in the neighborhood. The escape minivan was found to have several aftermarket bullet holes; it is not known who installed them. Both criminals will be charged with aggravated robbery.
John – I just hope that the “aftermarket bullet holes”

Update on my Hawaii dilemma- my wife was offered the job but the salary wasn’t near enough to cover the higher cost of living so we declined it. I’m happy to report we are limiting our search to Florida, Texas, & Arizona where I can remain a free law abiding gun toting American with my gun of choice !
As a proud member of the NRA and Second Amendment Foundation, I strongly support our second amendment rights and reject efforts to infringe on those rights. That being said, I find myself wavering on a couple of issues.
“The Gun Show Loophole”. I realize that this is largely a fallacy and over exaggerated by the Left. Most gun show sellers at the shows I attend are gun dealers and therefore a normal background check is completed. However I guess at some shows individuals selling as a private party or collector can sell guns without a background check. To that end, if a seller is offering a multitude inventory of guns and does so frequently, I’d support a background check for these sales. I feel like I’m not toting the party line, but it makes sense.
snip <<“Internet sales”
Again often exaggerated and over reported, I am aware of some websites/pages on Facebook or Craigslist-type of ads that engage a sale between buyer & seller. As long as these sales occur within a state, I see that as no different than any other private party sale. I’m suspicious of the Bloomberg/Obama agenda to require every sale between private parties to go through an FFL. There would never be a way to regulate these types of sales, even though they are enabled by Internet ads, it’s still a private transaction.>>snipp
So I’m happy I get to keep my in my inventory of Glocks, H&K and S&W’s.
Thom in Indiana
Rob- Comment- why does it bother you if there are private party sales? It doesn’t bother me. We already know that criminals don’t do background checks, so I don’t understand your concern.
John 2- This is from Alan
Sorry this is a bit long and preachy, but once I get started . . .
The Gun Rights movement has a problem. Actually it has two problems. It is likely that anyone reading or hearing this will already agree with me that the 2nd amendment exits to ensure the people have the absolute right to keep and bear arms as a final defense against any government evolving into tyranny. The founding fathers escaped such a tyrannical government through the use of arms and wanted to ensure that future citizens of the United States would always have access to the tools to execute a 2nd American Revolution if, and when that time came.
I’m not suggesting that time is now.
Snip <<I believe, and I think most right thinking people would agree, we are far from that time. However, individuals in various levels of Federal, State and Local government, and even many private citizens, continue to try to chip away at the absolute right to keep and bear arms. Perhaps some have nefarious dreams of an all powerful government, but I think most anti-gunners simply fear the unknown. >>
So, as gun supporters, our first problem is that we are not very good evangelists. We gun people spend a lot of time preaching to the choir, but what is important is for every gun owner who believes in the 2nd amendment to talk to his or her anti-gun friends and introduce them to shooting.
Forget about trying to start a conversation about tyranny and the real reason for the 2nd amendment – you can get to that later.
One of the fortunate side effects of the 2nd amendment is that personal firearms happen to be the best available tools for self protection.
Start conversations with non-gun folks by talking about their absolute right to defend themselves, and the absolute right to have the tools to do that. This is a simpler, more concrete and personal argument. Once you’ve established some basic agreement that we should be allowed to keep and bear arms you can start teaching about the real purpose of the 2nd amendment if you want to.
Our second problem is that many, many gun owners DO NOT VOTE. In this upcoming election its winner take all; whichever team wins the top spot takes the whole prize.
SNIP For every voter who thoughtfully works through the election ballot, reviewing each candidate individually, there are probably three who simply vote straight party ticket; and if more vote “D” than vote “R”, its game over. So, you have go to vote – in self defense if for no other reason. If you are not registered to vote, get registered. And why don’t you go head now and turn in a Vacation Request to your employer for the 2nd Tuesday in November. Take the whole day off! SNIP
No excuses – YOU MUST VOTE.
I would love to see every pro-gun radio or television program, every podcast, every blog for the next 10 months start each and every program or post with a demand that all gun owners vote. Simply put, if you don’t vote, we lose.
Finally, one last comment: I am not crazy about some of the candidates in the current Republican presidential campaign; nevertheless, I do hereby solemnly pledge to support and vote for w中国体彩官方appver eventually becomes the Republican presidential nominee.
SNIP In my youth I helped elect Bill Clinton by voting for Ross Perot. It is perhaps unfortunate, but it is a fact that the next president of the United States is going to be a member of one of the two major parties. There is no way for a 3rd party candidate to win – the deck is stacked. SNIP
So I solemnly pledge to support the Republican candidate and to work vigorously against any candidate who decides to run a 3rd party campaign. Down that road lies gun confiscation.

Could Joe Biden’s advice, “Jill, if there’s ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out and put that double-barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house,” have more validity than we have given credit?
SNIP Let’s start with the reckless endangerment myth. Below is a photo of a group of dove hunters, there are probably hunters surrounding this field all armed with loaded shotguns. But why are none of them hunkered down behind sandbags or wearing body armor for protection. The only protections they have are safety glasses, ball caps and possibly ear plugs and yet they are safe. First they are shooting small pellet bird shot, then there are field safety rules you never fire on a horizontal plane always fire up into the air. So why is it that in the city these same procedures are a hazard to everyone within 20 miles even if they are in the basement of a 2 story 中国体彩官方app? It is easy to push this line of reasoning over an urban populace that has no experience hunting with a shotgun but why would the hunting community let this go unchallenged in court. SNIP
The shouting fit from the tactical experts you would hear is never fire warning shots if you are really in danger. But let’s look at human nature, I can’t quote figures but I think it was Lt. Dave Grossman that researched the low percentage of people in the military and law enforcement that could not shoot another human even with training and a mindset to take a life. Why would we expect an untrained civilian man or woman to overcome this natural instinct? Now I know there is a special class of men who are proven in combat but how many trainers have never fired a shot in anger but speak like they have. What makes them think that firing at a target for a few moments at the range can overcome their constant training to insure that they never point a gun at someone else because they are protecting the lives of others.

Dear Paul and crew,
Living and working in MN can be a sub-zero experience. I cannot carry at work, so I leave my Glock in a nano-vault in my locked car. When I return 中国体彩官方app after my shift, my gun frosts up once I bring it inside. I have been carrying for 6 years and have not had a bit of rust or a dud round with my self defense ammo, which I shoot off once a year to keep fresh. (Remington Golden Saber.) Am I pressing my luck exposing my gun and ammunition to these conditions? I hate cleaning guns and do it as little as possible. For giggles, I didn’t clean my gun for an entire summer until the last IDPA match of the 2014 season. Luv my Gen 3 Glock 19.
Thanks for your podcast. It’s my favorite one.
Rob- it is hard to argue with success. You can always bag your gun to keep it dry until it warms up.

Hey guys and gals,
Greeting from the middle of nowhere in southern Arizona. Just listened to the SHOT show recap podcast and I’m glad you had a good time. Thanks for taking the time to look into some of the suggestions I made (FNS-9c and Ruger LCR in .327 Federal). I know Paul said that he found the FNS to be a nice shooter, but we didn’t get Susan’s opinion on it. Also, is she still planning on buying the SR9c? Or did she see anything else that caught her eye?
I know Paul has mentioned using his Glock 22 as a trade-in towards whatever new gun Susan finally purchases, but I would advise against that. Once Susan gets here new pistol, put her G23 in storage, that way if either one of you is forced to defend yourselves, you each have access to another firearm while the other is taken as evidence by the police.
Stay safe, and stay dangerous.
Gary: Thank you again for all this e-mail. We received three voice mails and we will include those in next week’s episode. Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?
Rob- If you like our DGU stories, I wrote two articles about armed . I wrote about Obama’s lie when he told rape survivor Kimberly Corban that she is . I also had a guest blog by Cheryl Todd about people who pretend to support the right of self-defense. All those articles are up at , at , and at my blog I checked my statistics and I’ve been getting between 4 and ten thousand page views a week. John, tell us what’s new at your blog no lawyers only guns and money
John – I want to point out . It is about an incredibly biased story on the SHOT Show by reporters from the British newspaper The Guardian. After first muzzling a bunch of people, Rupert Neate thought it would be cool to ask Smith and Wesson on camera if a .22 rimfire AR was like the rifle used to kill 14 people in San Bernardino. He and his videographer were later escorted off the Sands Expo property by SHOT Show staff for violating the conditions of their admittance. What makes this story more interesting is that the Poynter Institute, a mainstream journalism foundation, severely criticized Neate and the Guardian for their biased editorializing disguised as a factual story.
John- That and more is at
John- We would like to thank Charlie Foxtrot for writing up show notes for us. Even though you don’t hear him on the air he is certainly part of what you do hear. Look at his blog at
John: That wraps up another episode of the Polite Society Podcast. I’d like to thank Tatiana Whitlock and Jenna Meek for joining us today. We have Kimberly Corban scheduled for next week. Maybe. So for Charlie Foxtrot, Paul, Gary, Rob, Rachel and Susan; until the next time…
