Paul: episode 334 of the Polite Society Podcast starts right now.

Show intro music.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- I mentored a first shots class for a group of staffers and councilmen from San Diego City Hall. I found out one of the mentors listens to our podcast. Made some donations for a local initiative to re-zone gun ranges, and to the New Jersey recall effort. I’m scheduled to be on Lock and Load radio next Friday, and to mentor another first shots class for medical professionals next Saturday.

Rachel-I’m so glad to be back on the podcast today! The past few months I’ve been taking care of my 10-year-old brother, as well as working through the biggest music jobs of the year. The past several weeks, my two youngest brothers, my sister Deborah, and I took an amazing vacation to Colorado and Wyoming. I attended the weddings of a couple long-time friends and we visited Pikes Peak and Yellowstone, among other thrilling sights. I also enjoyed the freedom to open carry a full-size handgun in NM, CO, WY, MT, and ID. Only a few more months and we’ll be doing that in Texas, too. This weekend I’m instructing a ladies rifle class at Battle Road ().

George Hill (three sentence biography and any personal gun news this week)

Tatiana Whitlock: I am a Mom, industrial designer, firearms student and instructor and member of the NRA Women’s Network. I am also the owner and designer of ID Target Systems which creates realistic 3D training aids for personal and 中国体彩官方app defense training. My career took a shift from fine art and design to firearms five years ago. Since then my focus has been in real world, practical application of firearms for 中国体彩官方app and self defense.

(What did you do this week, Tatiana?)

John Edeen: I am a Pediatric orthopedic surgeon practicing in San Antonio for the past 17 years. I am a Navy veteran have been pursuing firearms training since 2010. I am also the membership director for Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership. I have been active in the Second Amendment rights movement for two years.

This week I attended the Threat Centered Revolver training course taught by Grant Cunningham in Ohio. The course was hosted by Paul Carlson of Safety Solutions Academy. It is essentially Combat Focus Shooting for the revolver. If you’ve taken CFS, you will recognize many of the general principles of the curriculum. The focus is on the threat and the techniques that are taught are adapted to what your body does under extreme stress. Grant emphasizes using visual information in target selection and shoot-don’t shoot exercises. What makes this course unique is the revolver. Grant teaches the fundamentals of grip and trigger manipulation of the double action revolver first, so by the end of the course, you are doing the shooting automatically. It’s a good thing, because the second day you are using your brain in decision making. Reloading a revolver is a manual skill, with multiple steps that, by the end of the weekend you have mastered by sheer repetition. He showed us some one handed reloading techniques, both strong and weak hand, but emphasized that actual use of these techniques is unlikely in an actual defensive encounter. If you carry a revolver for personal protection, you will benefit from the knowledge you gain from this course. Much of the content of the course can be found in Grant’s book, Defensive Revolver Fundamentals.

Paul Carlson did a great job of organizing the course. The facilities and range were well suited for firearms training and Paul also did some instruction.

A bonus to the course was dinner with David Codrea. David lives nearby, so I invited him, Grant, Paul and the other students. We had a nice dinner at The Chophouse , but the conversation was lively and stimulating…Paul

Susan – won’t be here for the intro she will be back 中国体彩官方app as soon as she can, but will be at least late.

Paul – Worked as usual this week. Definitely decided that I am going to order another barrel for the G22, going to get a .357 Sig barrel and see if I like shooting that better. That is one thing that I like about Glocks is their flexibility.

Nothing else gun related. Susan can’t join us at least during the first segment as she is at a meeting at her soon to be former job. She interviewed for and has been offered a job with a considerable raise in responsibility and more importantly pay.

We have been going out on Sunday mornings and have started looking at campers. I want a camper that I can pull behind my Dodge half ton pickup, which means that I am looking at campers on the smaller end. we have 2 absolutes that we are looking for, #1 it MUST have a bathroom (Susan’s requirement) and it MUST have air conditioning (mine)

>live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Charleston’s Emanuel AME Church Murders
The staff of the Polite Society Podcast would like to extend our sincere condolences to the friends, family, congregation and community of the nine victims at the Charleston AME church. We count ourselves as part of the community that is grieving their loss. We surely condemn the evil that raised its head in that holy place.

The devil goes to church too.

‘Boma Exploits the Emanuel AME Murders

The investigation of the to push his agenda of division and gun control. Instead of acting to heal, he did the opposite according to . “I think it was completely shameful. Within 24 hours we’ve got the president trying to score cheap political points.” Jindal observed.

During the seven minute prepared statement Obama said, “At some point, we as a country中国体彩官方app will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it.” Obama is mistaken in those statements – no, let’s be honest: he lied. Most, if not all, endure mass killings – evil respects no borders. Countries like Finland, Russia, Germany, France and England, have endured these tragedies, some much worse than Columbine, Sandy Hook and Charleston together. We see mass murders with weapons in countries with far more oppressive gun laws than the US. And — Obama certainly does not have the Constitutional power in his pen and phone to override Congress and the Will of the People.

If one of the 12 people present had been armed, the AME massacre might have ended very differently. At fearsome odds, , , and stopped attacks on their churches. They are just a few of the pastors and parishioners who have successfully defended the lives of their flock. Unfortunately, South Carolina makes it to carry a concealed weapon into a church without permission. Good people were disarmed and helpless when evil intruded into their sanctuary.

The host of federal and state laws also failed the victims. Official information is hard to come by, but the killer apparently was able to obtain his weapon over the counter despite his drug addiction and several felony arrests. He violated a host of laws possessing, concealing and transporting the gun. 911 also failed: the police arrived an eternity too late. The killer had enough time to taunt his victims, expend six magazines and then make good his escape. The only thing that could have stopped the hateful spree was a good guy with a gun.

Obama made his comments moments before jetting off to attend three Hollywood fundraisers and put in another round or two of golf. At one , Obama discussed his plans for gun control with the entertainment industry elite. After all, Matthew Perry knows everything about guns.
One of the Polite Society’s core philosophies is that good guys with guns do good things. Carry your CCW if you can, where you can, when you can. Stand as free men and women; not as victims. Stand.

Comments from Rob, John, Tatiana and George.

Rachel-Apart from legal issues, this story raises other questions that Christian/church-going gun carriers need to have considered, foremost of which, “Is it appropriate to carry in church?” I’m a Christian all week. I worship God and seek to serve Him all week. So I feel if it was inappropriate to carry at church it would also be inappropriate to carry away from church.

Loving and worshipping God involves valuing what He values. He created life, and that life is precious and valuable. I believe in the principle of self-defense not out of spite or vengeance or selfishness, not because I think I’m more important than someone else, but because God made me in His image and I as a person have value.

I believe in protecting others’ lives because they as people made in God’s image have value. This is part of loving my neighbor as myself.

I believe that if another person devalues human life by trying to extinguish it – for example, pulling a gun and beginning to murder people – it is good and right to protect the innocent life, even if that may call for taking the life of the killer. This is valuing justice as well as valuing life.

So, I see value and rightness in welcoming a stranger into one’s midst for a prayer meeting and extending the love of Christ to him, but I also see value and rightness in carrying a firearm and being ready to use it to defend life.

Things that we value help us make choices in living our lives. Sometimes we decide to intentionally make ourselves more vulnerable, but that’s a calculated risk. It’s a decision you make for yourself. Each of us has to weigh safety, living life, enjoying freedom, sharing and loving others.

Rob- This news breaks my heart and it makes me proud of you. Everyone on this program has taken training and wishes they were sitting in that prayer circle and carrying. It also makes me wonder about values. On one hand we’re told that all values are the same. In that case crazy paranoid racist rants are just a lifestyle choice. I think values matter and this kid was crazy.

George? President Obama said that in order to stop violent attacks we have to turn the legally armed US into the disarmed AME church. That takes a heck of a speech writer to pull that one off.

Tatiana?- The president said we should stop 21 year olds from buying guns because they are too irresponsible. Is he also advocating raising the age to vote? +1 DM

John: My passion is to get rid of gun free zones. This unfortunate event demonstrates the futility of a law that disarms the law abiding and allows the evil actors free reign to murder unopposed. This is a moral issue. It is immoral for any legislature to leave gun free zones in place. Every time there is a mass shooting in a gun free zone, the legislature is an accessory and has blood on its hands.

Rob- This crazy murderer proved that magazine capacity restrictions don’t matter.

If I can be funny for a moment, the president said at his fundraiser in Hollywood that anyone could go to a gun show and buy a gun without a background check. I bet that gave his audience some hope that they could get a gun despite their prior drug convictions.

George- The president is wrong. Every gun law that applies outside a gun show also applies inside the gun show.

Welcome中国体彩官方app to the polite society podcast presented by the Firearms Policy Coalition

Of Course She Did
Front running Democrat presidential candidate (gawd help us all) lost little time before calling for new restrictions on firearms in the wake of the tragedy at the Emanuel AME church in Charleston. Just as predictable was the standard anti-gun litany of “common-sense” reforms, universal background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers or people suffering from mental illness, or even people on the terror watch list.

Someone should tell Ms Clinton that none of her wish list would have kept the gun out of the murderer’s hands. He apparently passed the background checks they are so fond of.

Paul – in other news water is wet!

-A firearms instructor wanted to do more than be a good witness. He wanted to prevent another crime before it happened. The owner of Bear Beam Firearms in Tulsa, Oklahoma offers Charles Peters said “Protecting .. their flock is important. Being prepared for that unfortunate event when it happens needs to take place prior to it happening. Not reacting to it afterwards. I’ve (offered these classes) before and nobody shows up because nobody thinks it affects them. The recent event will cause them to see how much it can affect them.”

Peters said he has already received calls from pastors interested in his free course and some have signed up. He cautions anyone who seeks out a conceal carry permit, that they also need to receive proper safety training. Pastors will only need to show identification showing they’re a pastor or assistant pastor. They will still need to pay any state fees associated with the permit.

Comment- Rob- Why do religious leaders think it is noble to be disarmed victims?

Welcome中国体彩官方app to the polite society podcast presented by the Firearms Policy Coalition

Cuomo Creates ‘Total Cluster F—k’ in Escaped-Killers Hunt
Not only is New York governor Mario Cuomo a rabid anti-gunner, a hard-left progressive, the head of an administration that’s corrupt even by New York standards, and a publicity ho(und), he’s now credited with creating a (no relation) of the hunt for two escaped murderers.

With TV cameras in tow, Cuomo elbowed his way to the scene of the upstate New York prison escape. His unwelcome presence disrupted a crime scene only hours old. The ongoing search is hamstrung by competing agencies, bureaucratic infighting and publicity seeking officials. Heavily armed officers are bumbling about random patches of forest, often without coordination with other groups in the woods. Many are openly talking about the mess the search has become. As the murderers remain at large for days, now weeks, the pressure on Cuomo grows.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Texas is definitely NOT New York. Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a knife law preemption bill which keeps cities and counties from enacting local knife laws. City laws such as those in Corpus Christi and San Antonio will be effectively repealed after September first. Cities are allowed to regulate possession of knives in schools, on government property or at certain public events.

John Edeen- Will the San Antonio city council copy Chicago and outlaw knives on public transportation?

Also in the good news category, Nevada changed its reciprocity laws. Nevada now recognizes the concealed carry permits from Nevada now recognizes the popular Arizona permit, but not Utah and Florida. The Nevada legislature also eliminated the handgun registration requirements in Clark County.

Indiana Will Allow Short Barreled Shotguns
As of July 1st, will be allowed to possess shotguns with a barrel length less than 18”. The owner will still have to have the proper federal Class III paperwork for short barrelled shotguns. Which still makes no sense. Heck, Canadians can have short barreled rifles and shotguns without asking for permission and paying a special tax.

-In the not so good news category, the digital ridesharing company Uber now prohibits drivers and passengers from having weapons in its vehicles. Uber made the change back on June 10. Both Uber and Lyft are

Rachel- Does each car come with a little plastic no-guns sign on the window? Is the driver going to wand me like a TSA checkpoint? Seriously, I don’t want to get into a car when a thief knows I’m disarmed.

Rob- A regulated company can be pressured to follow ANYTHING the regulators tell it to do.

John- Can Uber be sued if the driver is attacked?

-Rob, you were thinking of moving from California. Maybe you should consider Puerto Rico. A class action lawsuit was brought by a group called “the Ladies of the Second Amendment”. They sued the commonwealth of Puerto Rico to allow firearms purchase and carry without having to show good cause. The Commonwealth attorney argued that having arms is a privilege and not a right. The intermediate appellate court ruled with the plaintiff citing the Heller and McDonald cases. , without a permit and they no longer need a permit to purchase a firearm. The court’s ruling also abolished the gun registry in Puerto Rico. All firearms transactions will be handled in accordance with US firearms regulations.

Paul- Freedom is breaking out in unexpected places. We had Ed Levine with us last week talking about non-resident permits in Washington DC. He finally picked up his DC carry permit. Unfortunately, this week a court imposed a stay so DC is again denying carry permits to mere mortals.

中国体彩官方appPhoney Baloney Maloney

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY, has found her nitch: the underside of the gun-control rock. This legislative session she has on the so called gun-show loophole (with a hidden registration requirement), a gun liability insurance mandate, funding for CDC anti-gun studies, and now the Handgun Trigger Safety Act. This bill would require all new handguns to utilize smart gun technology within 5 years, and the retrofit of all handguns within 10. The fact that acceptable smart gun technology doesn’t exist is probably not a bug, but a feature to her.

Fortunately, the above bills don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of passage in the Republican controlled House. Perhaps, her puppetmasters have other objectives. They may be laying the foundation for when the political pendulum swings to the left again. More likely, they are hoping to get these ideas out to the states and cities. Once there, each anti-gun law must be fought individually, straining the resources of the pro-rights organizations. This could be gun bans by a thousand cuts.

As always, support your local, state and national gun-rights organizations. They’re going to need it.

Bloomberg Funds New Gun News Site ‘The Trace’
Speaking of the puppetmaster: Our ol’ friend Michael Bloomberg is at it again. That Nasty Little Fascist (thank you, Michael Bane) is using his billions to try and change the debate on guns in America. Bloomy is funding a media organization to . And, of course, impart that unique Bloomberg spin to the news. New York’s “Capital” said the site will be the editorial arm of Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety. He obviously hopes to become a reference source for mainstream media, like the now largely discredited Brady Bunch was in the past.
A look at “” website shows a very heavy-handed spin on gun news. The few articles that were briefed (we lacked sufficient blood-pressure medicine) were long on allegations and short on facts. Did you know that If you bothered reading the article, you wouldn’t know much more.

This website does no credit to the already badly damaged standards of journalism. However, it does have that unique Bloomberg stench.

Gun Quotes (give the gun quote to the person who has said the least so far)

If they think gun buybacks get guns away from criminals, then why don’t they ever do crack and heroin buybacks? That quote is from Facebook.

Paul- Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our interview segment.

advertisement Concealment Solutions

Segment 3 Interviews

Gary Slider of handgunlaw.us.(wednesday?)

Carl Chinn about church security

Dan Roberts about ongoing protests in New Jersey. Steve Sweeney got his democrat city council members to bar protests in front his house. The event is next week, June 27th. Sweeney is using the victim card for his special needs daughter claiming the protesters frightened his family. A mental health search takes less than a week. Some New Jersey gun owners are afraid of political retribution.

Segment 4 DGUs

Three men approached a resident of Hope MIlls, North Carolina as he arrived 中国体彩官方app after midnight. The three thieves drew their firearms and demanded money. The resident reached back into his car and He shot one of the thieves and all three of the thieves then ran off on foot. The victim was shot in the abdomen, was taken to Cape Fear medical center, and is expected to recover. Police found one of the thieves wearing latex gloves and with a gunshot wound to his chest. The thief died before medical help arrived.

Rob- The victim was not carrying. Three on one. Six shots doesn’t seem like enough.

Atlanta, Georgia 中国体彩官方appowner Defends His Life Against Two Intruders
An Atlanta 中国体彩官方appowner was forced to overpower an attacker and then shoot him several times in defense of his life. Two men busted through his door at 3 AM. The wounded burglar was taken to the hospital where he died several hours later.

Police are still looking for the other 中国体彩官方app invader.

-The police tell us to be a good witness. That sounds like good advice, but could you watch and do nothing while a friend of yours was being robbed at gunpoint? A thief walked into a Breadbox Convenience store in Knoxville, Tennessee. He pointed a 9mm pistol at the clerk and forced her behind the counter. The thief didn’t see the clerk’s friend waiting in the parking lot. The clerk’s friend grabbed his own handgun and entered the store. That is when and saved the clerk. The thief died.

Police called the shooting justified because of the threat to the clerk’s life. They also reported that the thief’s gun had the serial numbers filed off.. and the police are still trying to trace where the gun was stolen.

Family members of the thief said the friend in the car shouldn’t have gotten involved.

Two Thugs Have a Gun Wrestled Away By A Mom (Do we really want to use this one? RM) (It certainly shows the essential will to overcome and the inadvisability of opening the door to anyone unknown – DM)
Two thugs got between a momma bear and her cub, but did live to regret it. Barely.

A opened her front door to two men saying they were the police. The masked men blew in, grabbed the 中国体彩官方appowner and demanded her money. When she was unable to give them what they wanted, they began to beat her. With her daughter looking on, she resisted and fought back. The fight rolled out onto the front lawn where she was able to grab a thug’s gun and turn it on the cowardly duo. Several shots chased them down the street. Neither suspect is known to have been hit.

The woman was taken to the hospital with cuts and bruises. Her daughter was unharmed. Police have been unable to find the hapless thugs, and have not said if the woman would be charged for firing at the fleeing invaders or if she will be allowed to keep the gun. We say she’s earned it.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant (when you are done with your segment please ask the next person what has been up with them)

Rob- I spoke with one of our listeners. Tony is running some introductory training classes in New Jersey. I had some repairs made on my Glock 19. Shot an IDPA match. One stage had 18 separate cardboard targets. That stage took a while to score and tape.

I was shooting a mix of defensive and practice ammunition. The glock doesn’t care what it eats so far. On a personal note, we went and heard Rand Paul speak last night.

John – Not much in the way of personal gun stuff to report this week. I did pick up 4 Aero Precision AR stripped lowers this week. I found and couldn’t resist. I think there will be more AR builds in my future! Planning what to do is half the fun.

Gary – Sorting brass for reloading and teaching Plus just opened the new scope for my M&P15

I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes here.

Seg 2- News

Guns For Me, But Not For Thee
doesn’t believe the public should own guns. According to him, the Second Amendment is blind and stupid. Oddly enough, when push comes to maybe being shoved, he becomes a believer in a firearm – for his self-defense. Covering the Baltimore riots, Geraldo could have felt uneasy about being as defenseless as one of the little people. So, the Very Important Person got some muscle – muscle with guns. What his didn’t have was a hard-to-get permit to carry those guns in Maryland. Now, Geraldo’s bodyguard sits in jail, unable to meet the outrageous $350,000 bond.

While Baltimore’s mayor gave the rioters room to destroy, the politicians would not allow the citizens their right to an effective self-defense. Just as hypocritical, Geraldo was protected by the same firearms he would deny from the people

Blind and stupid? Well, Geraldo is certainly one to know blind stupidity.

We like guns.. and so do you. A reports that American voters overwhelming prefer living in a neighborhood where they have the option of owning a gun rather than living where nobody is allowed to be armed. Only 22 percent of likely U.S. voters feel safer living in a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun. Sixty-eight percent would feel safer in a neighborhood where guns are allowed. That more than a three to one ratio.

That leads us to ask.. why aren’t they all listening to our podcast?

Total Recall is more than a movie. Patricia Duffy had her recall petition approved by the Oregon Secretary of State. She wants to recall state Senator Floyd Prozanski because of his vote on mandatory background checks for Oregon gun owners. This recall is in Lane County which includes the liberal college town of Eugene. You’d think that gun prohibition would succeed there, but the Lane county politicians said they would not enforce the firearms transfer law. This is the fourth Oregon legislator facing a recall over the firearms transfer law. Citizens have until September fourth to gather 8,700 signatures for the recall.

Rob- Speaking of recall petitions.. the petition drive to remove New Jersey Senator Steve Sweeney is in two weeks.

Our next story could be called total recant. The FBI released a report before the 2014 midterm elections that claimed mass murders were on the rise. Criminologists looked at the report since then and said the report was deeply flawed. The report ignored older attacks and overcounted recent ones. Now, two of The authors paid by the FBI to write the report said the study’s “data is imperfect. Because official data did not contain the information we needed, we had to develop our own.”

John- That is academic speak for “I made it up.”

Rob- The way the authors built their study, their methodology would report an increase in any event they looked for. The authors can always go to work writing reports on global warming.

-Yes, crazy people get guns. What are you going to do about it? The Aurora theater murderer kept a journal. It is now public. The journal includes lists of possible targets, diagrams of the movie theater, and the advantages and disadvantages of mass murder, serial murder, bombs, biological warfare, attacking a theater or an airport. It details which auditoriums in the theater complex had the fewest exits and which rooms offered the least chance he would be detected as he slipped out and in the back door. The journal documents the murderer’s struggle with mental illness for the last ten years. Like the jihadi terrorist, the murderer did not fear death. He feared failure.. and would not be stopped by a plastic sign that said “no guns allowed”. He is being tried for murdering 12 people and wounding an additional 70.

The Supreme Court refused to hear a court case from San Francisco. They let stand a case that was very similar to the Heller case in DC. San Francisco requires that a firearm be locked in a safe and inoperable whenever it is not being carried on body.

Rob- Three New York cities passed the same storage requirement law the day after the Supreme Court refused to hear the case. Alito and Roberts blinked.

John- Judge Thomas spoke out against the ban and wanted to hear the case. He said the 9th Circuit’s ruling was “in serious tension” with the Heller decision. He was right.

Rob- as long as they are in your hands or a locked safe. A woman in San Francisco who keeps her gun in a nightstand is now a felon.. and she can’t wear it as she take her garbage can to the curb or to get her mail. That requires a carry permit.. which she won’t get.

Bill to Fix Sporting Purpose Language in 1968 Gun Control Act
has introduced H.R. 2710, the “Lawful Purpose and Self-Defense Act of 2015”. His bill aims to fix the flawed and much abused Sporting Purposes language of the ‘68 Gun Control Act,. The bill has already garnered strong support from the , , and the , as well as 50 co-sponsors.

Misdefining Sporting Purposes has led to recent ATF overreaches such as the attempted ban of the 5.56 M855 round and could threaten larger calibers and shotgun self defense loads. Most importantly, the Sporting Purposes phrase has no foundation in the Constitution. As the Supreme Court determined in DC v. Heller, the right to keep and bear arms was never written to protect hunting or target shooting.

Representative Bishop hopes to “…slap the over-reaching hand of the federal government and restore some of the freedoms our grandparents enjoyed.” A NSSF representative stated that; “This is one of the most important pieces of reform legislation that the firearms and ammunition industry has seen come before Congress in recent years,”

We certainly wish Rob Bishop all the best.

-This is more sad news from the failing city of Chicago. Chicago had its this year. If there is any good news it is this. Not one of the victims was attacked by a concealed carry holder as the police chief alleged when concealed carry was passed.

Gary- That news is out of date. I checked the statistics today, and the total number of people wounded or murdered with a firearm in Chicago is 1114 so far this year.

Voters in Montana could have the chance to vote to allow teachers to carry guns in schools. This is because of the efforts of a 17-year-old junior at Whitefish High School. Chet Billi filled draft language for a proposed initiative for the 2016 ballot this week with the Montana Secretary of State. He’d like to see teachers armed in accordance with state concealed-carry laws. A measure to legalize concealed-carry on Montana’s public college campuses passed the Montana Senate in the last legislative session, but was died in the House on a 49-51 vote. Maybe the voters will do it themselves.

We discussed the proposed changes in the ITAR regulations last week. We asked you to write your lawmakers as well as submit comments. where you take a cut and paste pre-written comment and send it to the State Department. This is going to be one of those proposed regulations where we need thousands and thousands of comments just like with the ATF proposal to label green-tip M855 ammo as armor piercing.

John – We need to bury them with comments because they have to read and consider each and every one.

There is lots of news out of New Jersey this week. We have an interview coming up with Dan Roberts. He’ll cover the ongoing protests after the murder of Carol Bowne. Here is some good news out of New Jersey..

We had Steffon Josey-Davis on our show several months ago. Davis was arrested, charged, and convicted of a felony in 2013 for accidentally transporting his legally registered handgun. He has finally received a pardon from Governor Chris Christie. We’re glad for Steffon, but remain worried about the two million gun owners trapped by New Jersey gun laws.

John- I remember Brian Aitken, James Kaleda, Shaneen Allen and Gordon Van Gilder. There are hundreds of honorable gun owners who’ve been harassed by New Jersey law enforcement.

Rob- New Jersey gun laws are a problem, not the solution. Look at the most violent cities in America. Five of the worst 40 cities are in New Jersey.

John- Rob, that isn’t news. We’ve seen the same thing before after Britain imposed firearms prohibition. They are now the most violent country中国体彩官方app in Europe.

Sweeney has a carry permit and cops on his doorstep, but Carol Bowne was disarmed. The NBC station interviewed NJ2AS.. but left out the remarks from Senator Sweeney.

Segment 4 DGUs

-A Houston woman was sitting in her car at a gas station. A thief jumped into the passenger seat. and put a knife in her face. He demanded her money and her purse. The driver told the thief she would get the money. Instead she grabbed her pistol and shot the thief in the shoulder. The thief ran and collapsed about a half mile away. The thief is expected to recover and the driver is uninjured.

-Five armed men broke into a 中国体彩官方app on the east side of Detroit. The 中国体彩官方appowner with a concealed carry license grabbed her gun as the thieves broke in through her bedroom window. They shot at her. She shot at them and the thieves fled. Unfortunately, the 中国体彩官方appowner was shot in the foot. She is expected to make a full recovery.

She was selected as a likely victim because she is receiving cancer treatment and lives alone. The victim got a gun three years ago after her 中国体彩官方app was burglarized. I was going to fault her marksmanship, but five against one in the middle of the night is a really tough problem. She solved it.

-This next story comes to us from one of our guests, Tatiana Whitlock. A 35-year-old woman from Portland, Maine defended herself with a handgun. A man approached her and asked for money as she walked across the parking lot near Maine Medical Center. She said no. The beggar turned thief and threatened her with a knife. The woman retreated to her car and grabbed her handgun. She pointed the gun at the man and told him to leave her alone. The man ran and the victim reported the attempted robbery and assault to police.

-A school bus driver saw two strangers with guns in her school parking lot. The assailants charged her and the driver retreated to her car. Then she took action. Police found the two attackers high on drugs and armed with several handguns.

Rob- Her actions broke up their plans and gave authorities time to respond. Good work.

-A robber walked into a Kansas City, Missouri, pharmacy wearing a mask and carrying a gun. She demanded oxycodone from one of the clerks. The pharmacist came over and asked what the woman wanted. She said, ‘I’ve got a gun in this bag.’ to which the pharmacist replied, I got a gun too, as The woman ran. No shots were fired. Cameras captured video of the suspect and her getaway car. Police recovered the bag the woman carried into the pharmacy, which contained a fake plastic gun.

Scott wrote in from Houston.

I noticed on the news from New York that all the cops have 30 round magazines for their patrol rifles. I thought the governor said no one needs a 30 round magazine.. yet only law-abiding citizen are required to have seven rounds. Isn’t that pathetic.

Thank you

Paul- Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote about New Jersey judges and how they disarmed Carol Bowne before she was murdered. Judges ruled that New Jersey firearms laws are not infringements. Excuse me, but it isn’t a minor legal regulation when people bleed to death.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Rob dry practiced with friends Thursday night. Shot IDPA with my G19 friday night. Picked up some new magazines for my small browning 1911-22 saturday morning. I talked with John Edeen about his new 10mm version of the Sig 220. Finally cleaned my Mosin Nagant. (Sorry it took me so long, John.)

John – I doubt the Finns had much time to clean their Mosins when they were fighting the Red Army! The one thing I did this week firearms related was email my local state representative, a Democrat, asking him to support HB 562, the Second Amendment Affirmation Act, as it would eventually do away with North Carolina’s pistol purchase permit system. Imagine my surprise when I got a call yesterday evening from him asking to discuss the bill. He said he was a gun owner, CCW holder, NRA member, and a hunter. He went to say there was a lot in the bill he could support and would with a few changes. He gave me his cell number and asked me to call or text him with my comments if the bill changes. I didn’t vote for him but I was impressed that he took the time to call me.

Gary – Class and more shooting

Seg 2- News

-The Texas legislature completed the final steps for campus carry and governor Abbott signed it into law. The new law requires Texas public universities to allow licensed concealed carry holders into dorms, classrooms and campus buildings. College campuses have often sprawled across town, with a department building intermixed with private businesses and public roads. Licensed concealed carry was already allowed on campus, but you couldn’t enter the school buildings. You can in the fall of 2016.

The law allows universities to carve out gun-free zones in locations of their choice – establishing their own rules on where handguns are carried and how they’re stored. We will see what college administrators do with that loophole. Private universities can opt out of the carry requirement altogether.

-There were 27 shootings in Baltimore over the Memorial day weekend. 19 people were robbed in New York City’s central park. Chicago had 12 people shot to death and an additional 47 shot and wounded over the same weekend. That is a tragedy. Baltimore, Chicago, New York.. these deep blue cities are the very model of progressive regulation. In response to continued violence, the Obama administration called for more anti-rights controls.

The White House press secretary said, Quote “Obviously there’s some common sense things we could do – certainly passage of some gun safety laws in Congress that could keep guns out of the hands of criminals would be one thing that we could do to try to limit the violence.” Also, the government could improve the lives of citizens living in poverty stricken areas of our inner cities. close quote.

They called it gun safety, but it is really about people control. The White House failed to tell us that assaults with a firearm are down. That is why I have to ask this question. There are thousands of firearms restrictions in these cities already, and the violence marches on. Which criminals do they think will obey these new restrictions?

Even though people can’t work and raise a family in those examples of a deep blue progressive paradise, the obama administration wants to blame firearms for violence. This week the Department of Justice said it will institute over a dozen new regulations to make it harder for law abiding gun owners to own a firearm for self-defense.

We don’t think these anti-rights laws will help our friends trying to live in the inner city.

Rob- DC had violent weekend too. People shot = 9. People stabbed = 7.

John – It just infuriates me that the gun prohibitionists try to call what they do gun safety.

-In chicago, publicity seeking priest Michael Pfleger said the NRA was responsible for the shootings in chicago. Pfleger was joined by Jesse Jackson and Brady Campaign president Dan Gross as they staged a rally outside Dick’s sporting goods in Chicago.

Gary- This isn’t about firearms safety. There were 300 shootings in Chicago last month. None of them were by concealed carry holders or honest citizens who legally bought a gun and had a background check. My students don’t shoot innocent people on street corners.

These spokesmen are chasing dollars in a witch hunt against guns.

Rob- Lots of our deep-blue progressive cities have seen a surge in violent crime.

John – You don’t think some of those shootings might have been gang on gang, do you?

-Those gun grabbers in Chicago are not the only people seeking public attention. A man carried his AR into Atlanta airport. He videoed himself doing it as he trolled for the police. A second man wore his Star Wars stormtrooper costume, complete with blaster, outside a school in Massachusetts. He also got some police attention. If you absolutely positively need public attention, then please enter a beauty pageant or buy a dog. You are undermining the right of self-defense as you shock the average citizen. You’re really working for gun grabbers like bloomberg while you feed your ego.

-This news should make our inner cities safer. Last week we reported that Washington, DC’s good cause requirement to get a carry permit was enjoined by a judge. In the last few days, I’m hearing reports that ordinary citizens finally received approval to take a class and receive a DC carry permit. DC also said licensed carry holders could carry a spare loaded magazine.

Rob- We’ll have an interview on applying for your non-resident DC permit.

-Self-defense news may seem politically partisan. There is a reason for that, as documented by a recent Yougov poll. Republicans were 50% more likely than democrats to say they owned a .gun. 69 percent of Republicans say the ‘average American’ can be trusted with a firearm while only 32 percent of Democrats trust the average american. Democrats were almost three times more likely than republicans to want stricter gun laws.

The meaning is clear to me. We need to take more friends shooting so more democrats will stand up for the human right of self-defense.

Obama Seeks To Limit Communication About Firearms
It’s often said that those who would eliminate one fundamental Constitutional Right would have little problem eliminating others. From the NRA-ILA comes a warning of the Obama administration’s . It reads like a tinfoil hat fever dream, but we assure you that the source is the reputable NRA-ILA. Obama is once again attacking the First and Second Amendments.

In the June 3rd issue of the Federal Register, the administration proposes “clarifying” the International Traffic in Arms (ITAR) regulations pertaining to the sharing of technical information on firearms and ammunition. Since Algore’s internet is worldwide, under the new rules any firearms data published on the web could be deemed an export of ITAR controlled information. Prior governmental permission would be needed or the poster could face 20 years in prison and a million dollars of fines. The chilling effect on free speech is obvious.

The firearm technical data would include blueprints, drawings, photographs, plans, instructions or documentation. Gunsmiths, manufacturers, reloaders, and do-it-yourselfers could all be suddenly subject to ITAR regulation. Under the proposed gag orders, your next issue of Guns and Ammo might only be a pamphlet, firearms specific websites would be blank pages. And the broad online open discussions about firearms we enjoy nowadays would only be a another fading memory of freedom.

Comment will be accepted on the proposed changes until August 3, 2015. Comments may be submitted online at or via e-mail at DDTCPublicComments@state.gov with the subject line, ‘‘ITAR Amendment—Revisions to Definitions; Data Transmission and Storage.” Please contact your U.S. legislators. Urge them to oppose the State Department’s attempt to censor online speech concerning the technical aspects of firearms and ammunition. You can use the NRA’s feature (link in the shownotes) or call the Congressional Switchboard at (202) 225-3121.

Please, please make your voice heard — while you still can.

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy Intends to Pursue Gun Control as a Health Issue

When Dr Vivek Murthy was being confirmed as the US Surgeon General there were a lot of questions about his sparse medical qualifications, lack of experience, untested leadership and his hardline anti-gun stance. He mollified the Senators by promising to not let his personal convictions interfere with his duties as Surgeon General.

He lied, of course.

In a recent fawning , Murthy reiterates his statement that “guns are a health care issue.” He further states that “Violence of all kinds is a public health issue. When you have large numbers of people dying from preventable causes, that’s a health care issue. I want to find a way that we can reduce violence in America. … What I’m calling for is for more common sense.”

Despise Murthy’s claim of common sense, treating violence as medical issue is largely nonsensical. Common sense and statistics show that violence declines when criminals are targeted. Regardless of facts, it is apparent that the Surgeon General will join the Obama administration’s coordinated assault on the Right To Keep and Bear Arms.

Legislation Proposes $60 Million for Anti-Gun Research
On Monday, NRA F-rated Sen. Edward Markey and our old friend Rep. Carolyn Maloney introduced to authorize the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to give $60 million of the taxpayers’ money to anti-gun activists to conduct “research” promoting gun control. If approved, these studies would use taxpayer monies to promote a political agenda against a constitutionally-protected right.

We wish that if Bloomberg would like to fund additional questionably biased anti-gun studies, he would use some of his own billions rather than getting Maloney to use our tax dollars.

Rob- It won’t be approved in this congress.
Republican Representatives Preparing to Block DOJ Anti-gun Initiatives
Republican Representatives are attempting to use the Constitutional to frustrate Obama’s Department of Justice anti-gun initiatives. They are preparing to use a funding bill to roll back some of the Department of Justice’s backdoor gun controls and to completely block the implementation of others.

the DOJ’s plans to circumvent Congress with ‘more than a dozen’ new gun control regulations. These include new limitations on who can buy or possess guns, new reporting requirements for gun dealers, and new controls on certain types of firearms. also add a whole new category of persons who have to undergo background checks when estates hold National Firearm Act guns in trust.

House Republicans are planning to stop the backdoor gun control push via riders to current funding legislation. The GOP-attached riders mean the DOJ cannot get the money it needs unless the Obama administration backs down from certain gun regulations. It is not known if House Speaker John Boehner retains enough of a spine to effectively back these initiatives.

The SAF Files an Appeal in Their Challenge of Washington’s Initiative 594
Several weeks ago we discussed the . The judge dismissed the lawsuit on what many legal scholars believe to be the shakiest of grounds. Now, the SAF has filed an appeal of the dismissal before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
“We believe an appeal will result in the case being remanded for full hearing because there are serious issues at stake,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb. “Citizens should not have to actually be criminally prosecuted in order to challenge the constitutionality of a poorly-written law.”

We wish Alan Gottlieb and the SAF all the best in this important effort.

Harbor Freight Allows Open Carry In Its Stores
In a recent press release, Harbor Freight stated “We understand that there are a wide range of views on ‘open carry’ and other policies concerning firearms. We believe these policies should be addressed by the appropriate government agencies—not by Harbor Freight Tools.” Based on that wise understanding of the situation, Harbor Freight will permit the open carrying of firearms within its stores as long as local laws are being followed.

We applaud Harbor Freight’s decision to respect the rights of all of its customers. And we must confess to a sudden urge for some more power tools…

Welcome中国体彩官方app back to the defensive gun use segment

A Gun Saves a Life
In this DGU, a victim’s gun saves an innocent life. A couple walked out of a Tampa eatery and into two robbers with a gun. As the woman attempted to run, one suspect aimed his gun in her direction. The woman’s companion defended her life with his concealed carry weapon, shooting the criminal and stopping the attack.

The highwayman is in the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. His accomplice later turned himself into the police. The woman suffered minor injuries from falling in the parking lot. Her protector was uninjured.

Clerk Shoots at Three Armed Robbers

Three masked and armed men attempted to rob the Happy Daze Smoke Shop in Houston. Unfortunately – for them – they did not hide their preparations any too well, and the observant clerk was ready for them. Unfortunately – for them – the clerk was armed, and he fired as the trio rushed into the store, yelling Go, Go, Go!

One of the robbers stumbled back into the parking lot, where he collapsed. His two confederates left him there to die.

It seems a clear case of self-defense, and in rights friendly Texas, the clerk is not expected to face charges.

Elderly Man Thwarts 中国体彩官方app Invasion

at 2am on last Sunday. Fortunately, the Sullivan County, Tennessee 中国体彩官方appowner was armed. Mr. Dykes said he only had seconds to react so he pulled out his gun and shot the intruder. Mr. Dykes’ 中国体彩官方app had been previously burglarized in April.

Police found the burglar at the Holston Valley Medical Center where he was seeking treatment for his gunshot wounds.

Mr. Dykes is protected from any prosecution by Tennessee’s Castle Doctrine. Sullivan County District Attorney Barry Staubus said, “It has to be a reasonable defense of your 中国体彩官方app and you have to be in imminent fear of death. If those things exist, then you have the right to defend yourself.”

Texas Woman Stops 中国体彩官方app Invasion

on Tuesday afternoon. Trent Sinyard, 32, first knocked on the front door and then went to the back door where he started to kick it in. As the door broke, the 中国体彩官方appowner shot at him through the door multiple times wounding him in the head and shoulder.

Here is where this story takes a funny turn. Relatives say Sinyard, who lived next door to the victim, was only looking for the family dog that had escaped. That must explain why sheriff’s deputies found him hiding in the attic of his mother’s 中国体彩官方app. They took Sinyard to a local hospital for treatment for his wounds and then arrested him.

A spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office had this to say about defending yourself from a 中国体彩官方app invasion. “As soon as we know something’s going on, we’re coming, but our sheriff is very adamant letting 中国体彩官方appowners know you have a right to take care of yourself on your property.”

Woman Uses Gun to Stop Three Murderous Carjackers
A wrong turn on the mean streets of Detroit resulted in a woman desperately battling for her life. While attempting to make a U-turn, three armed thugs approached her car, jerked open the door and opened fire, putting two slugs into the door. What could have have been just another Detroit murder took a decidedly different turn when the woman emptied her CCW handgun’s 13 rounds of .357 SIG at the offenders. The hoodrats scurried away to the safety of some nearby abandoned 中国体彩官方apps.

The woman defiantly stated that; “All the residents of the city need to come together and take back this city from the thugs and the criminals that have taken over this city, and if you live in fear you’ll never bring this city back. You should be able to go anytime to get gas. This is the land of the free and the 中国体彩官方app of the brave, right? Why can’t we act like it?”

Detroit Police say she legally defended herself and, so far, it appears no one was hurt in the shooting. We sincerely applaud the woman’s moxie, but we believe she could benefit from one of Rick Ector’s Legally Armed in Detroit handgun classes to tune-up her handgun skills. Rick is training 300 Detroit area women for free.

Listener e-mail discussion

From listener Bow in NY,

I was “lucky” enough to get a pistol permit in the state of ny. The county I’m in issues it as a “sportsmans carry” permit. Meaning I can carry to and from the range or approved hunting grounds. If I were to travel to a state that actually recognized ny permits would those states rules apply or would I be stuck with the moronic laws of my state. I mean I passed their background check and they allow me to buy guns, why only allow me to carry to certain areas? Again only punishing the people that follow the law. Seems to be a lot of people being shot on a daily basis, funny they are no where near a range, don’t have a permit, and the guns were obtained illegally.

The next email is from Peter The subject line reads “Topic idea”

Hi Guys,

Wonder if you might think about getting someone on to talk about the process of getting a non-resident DC carry permit? I live across the river in Virginia and I do have to go into the city from time to time.

Plus, it seems like now might be a good time to inundate them with a few tens of thousands of applications.

Also, when ya’ll interviewed Bob Mayne a month or two ago, you were talking about testing a gun to make sure it’s reliable before you carry. I wonder, does that still apply if it’s your first gun, or your first carry gun? It seems to me you were mostly talking about people who have a reliable carry gun they’re thinking of replacing. If you buy your first handgun, I’d think you’d want to wring it out and make sure it’s reliable, but I don’t think that should stop you from carrying it while you do.

CCW reliability-

Good idea, Peter. We have an interview scheduled for next week.
