John : and hang on!

Paul: episode 327 of the Polite Society Podcast starts right now.

Show intro music.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Rob- I made a guest appearance on Armed American Radio last sunday. Wrote news for Kenn Blanchard on Black man with a gun. Went to a local meeting for self-defense activists on Tuesday. Heard Ed Peruta speak at a local Tea Party meeting, and wrote two articles for Ammoland and ClashDaily. My night job is feeling like my day job.

John – I just spent the weekend visiting with my granddaughter Olivia Grace. It is amazing how much she has grown in a mere 3 weeks or so since I have seen her last. The semester is winding down and papers to grade are piling up. I love the teaching, I tolerate the grading. With regard to gun stuff, Gary will be interested in this – the lightweight AR is done. I thought I needed to trade out the buffer tube but it is just because the Mission First Tactical stock is tight on it. I still need to zero it before I do a review and blog post on it.

Paul – More work on audio book. Did some dry fire practice specific to the draw. I wanted to find out how what I normally wear as cover garments work with drawing. I found that a hawiian shirt does a great job of concealing and a great job of not getting out of the way when I draw. A photographers vest does a FAR better job of getting out of the way, but it is a “shoot me first” vest.

More work on the 中国体彩官方app studio. it is almost where I want it for the audio setup.

Working on ordering stuff for the bob mayne/ben branam class.

Gary –

(Weekend shows only) I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes in Sioux Falls here.

Seg 2- News

–We’ve heard anti-gun groups say that firearms ownership is falling. They claim that record gun sales are going to fewer and fewer gun owners, and that the majority of people are calling for gun control. New polling data from Pew research calls that claim into question. In fact, the poll discovered a huge shift in public opinion about the right of self-defense.

Today, and for the first time, more Americans support the right of self defense instead of asking for more gun control. 52 percent say that protecting gun rights is important while only 42 percent say the government should do more to control firearms ownership.

There are several reasons for our changing opinions, though not all of them make sense. 63 percent of us think crime is rising. In fact, crime rates continue to fall, with current crime rates falling to only a quarter of the crime rate of the early 1990s. We have a distorted perception of violence in society.

Perhaps that is why today 63 percent of us say a gun in the 中国体彩官方app makes us safer. Ten years ago we were in a 50/50 tie on that issue.

comment- I didn’t know we had that many listeners, but someone is changing hearts and minds.

-Here is another measure of the changing view of firearms. A priest in a Detroit suburb now wants his parish to take a concealed carry class. Father Edward Fride wrote to his parish and scheduled a concealed carry class at Christ the King parish. Father Fride was a pacifist. He ministered to military veterans and their families. It looks like the influence went both ways, since the Father is known for recruiting new vocations to the priesthood.. and Father Fride is now studying martial arts. He said it hurt to imagine an innocent person being hurt while all he could do was watch. The father was overruled by his bishop, so the next concealed carry classes won’t be held at the parish.. for now.

-There is more news on the culture front. Catholic College students have traditionally been more supportive of social justice rather than supporting the right to keep and bear arms. That is changing.. at least in anti-gun Washington DC. The student government at Catholic University voted for concealed carry on campus. The vote for armed self-defense won by a margin of 16 to 11. Catholic U has policies and practices that are both liberal and conservative. The school is located in the Northeast quadrant of Washington, DC. There are many news articles about students being robbed on campus and off campus, and they say a conservative is simply a liberal who’s been mugged.

-Campus carry isn’t academic or theoretical. We can examine real world experience. We see the effects because Colorado had campus carry for the last 12 years. There was only one reported incident. That was by a university employee and no one was injured.

Census data from the 1990s surveyed rape victims and victims of attempted rape. 26 of these victims said they used a firearm for self-defense. The armed women stopped their attacker in every case. They were neither raped nor injured after they presented a firearm. That tells us what to expect on campus.

-We have more news from Washington DC. A gunman walked onto the steps of the US capital.

(Sound effect- GASP)

I know you’re shocked, but the gun free zone signs failed to stop the armed man. This disturbed individual committed suicide with a shot to his head. That means that the law abiding citizens were at risk.. from those who do not obey the law. You’d have to be crazy to think that plastic signs stop violence. The Capital was locked down for two hours after the shooting.

-We have a bit of unexpected sanity to report from Maryland. The Maryland legislature repealed their ballistic imaging program. Ballistic imaging looks at the microscopic abrasions formed on a shell casing as it is fired. It turns out the case marks change as the gun gets dirty, as ammunition changes, and as the gun wears and springs fatigue. Ballistic fingerprinting has never been used to solve crime. maryland stopped funding the program several years ago, but gun owners were still required to submit shell casings of new firearms. Not any more.

(Sound effect- Cheers!)

Now we have to ask if New York is smart enough to learn from Maryland and stop their own unsuccessful ballistic database.. and let’s ask if California will foolishly try to implement microstamping by looking at the mark left by the firing pin on the primer. I don’t know if they are as smart as the politicians in Maryland.

-Politics is as much about appearance as performance. The director of safety in Cleveland said as much. Michael McGrath proposed new gun laws and openly admitted they might not do any good. They were passed by the Cleveland city council. Quoting the mayor, “the legislation was not designed to stop gun violence” to begin with. Instead, he hopes it will “encourage responsible gun ownership.” Here are the new laws that reflect the council’s values:

  • Outlaw carrying a concealed deadly weapon or handgun, unless the person is a police officer or a person who holds a license to carry a concealed weapon.
  • Requires a person who sells or transfers a gun, and who is not a licensed gun dealer, to report such transactions to police
  • Requires an owner to report a lost or stolen gun to police.
  • Creates a gun offender registry, requiring people convicted of gun crimes to register their names with Cleveland’s Safety Director.
  • Prohibits the display, marking or sale of a facsimile firearm and prohibits brandishing a facsimile firearm in the presence of law enforcement or with the intent to frighten people.
  • Prohibits the negligent transfer of a firearm to a felon or intoxicated person.
  • Sets restrictions for firearms in the hands of minors and restricts discharging firearms in public areas, including schools, churches, cemeteries, playgrounds, and parks.
  • Requires owners to safely store firearms to keep them from being stolen or out of the hands of children.

Gary- sounds like they must make crime illegal.

Rob- sounds like a politician who wrapped his anti-gun bigotry in feel-good public relations.

-Sometimes the anti-rights politicians lose. Park carry is now legal in Tennessee. Some city officials who had preempted discreet carry complained about the new law. Officials like Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero ignored the attacks that occurred in the disarmed victim zones known as her parks. Maybe that was because Mayor Rogero has an armed security detail of her own. They forget that most Tennessee cities let armed citizens travel without restriction in city parks. The anti-rights politicians were projecting their hoplophobia and ignoring real world experience with gun owners.

Here is a shout out to Tennessee gun owners and legislators. You did the right thing.

-Senator Ted Cruz is running for president. When he spoke in New Hampshire, Senator Cruz said, “I think it’s very important to have a public discussion about why we’re denying our soldiers the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights (on military bases).” Currently, only law enforcement and security personnel are permitted to carry weapons, while soldiers are strictly prohibited from being armed on post. That prohibition was signed by President George Herbert Walker Bush.

-Speaking of candidates.. another presidential candidate was at the NRA annual meeting. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush bragged about his record and said, Quote “Today there are well over 1.3 million law-abiding Floridians with a valid concealed weapons permit, 1.3 million. That’s the most in the nation – nearly double that of the second state, which is Texas. Sorry, Gov. Perry.” Close quote. The number is closer to 1.4 million. A key factor is the ease and reciprocity granted through non-resident Florida permits.

-This good news will still make you cry. In 2010, four gang members charged into a southern California jewelry store and rushed the staff. The thugs were armed with hammers and clubs. The store owner was armed with a pistol. He shot the robbers. One died, but the store owner was sued by the family of the dead robber. Even though the police said the store owner defended himself and the store staff from a deadly threat, California law allows anyone to file a lawsuit at any time for almost any reason. It took six years to obtain a full dismissal of the case against the store owner in California.

Comment- Who has CCW insurance?

-Pennsylvania isn’t like California. Three Pennsylvania state representatives set up a seminar to inform gun owners of their legal rights and responsibilities. Representatives Seth Grove, Kate Klunk, and Kristin Phillips teamed up to hold the event May 2. An attorney will cover Pennsylvania’s concealed carry laws and a police officer will discuss how to safely interact with the law enforcement. The seminar is free. There are no training requirements for a Pennsylvania CCW.

-This story is from the Chicago area. Two Arlington Heights police officers who were found guilty of constitutional violations and ordered by a federal jury to pay a resident $80,000 in damages for illegally searching his 中国体彩官方app and seizing his guns. Art Lovi lost his wife to cancer. He was talking to his therapist for grief counseling. Lovi made a threat against a doctor who misdiagnosed his wife’s cancer years ago. The therapist reported the threat to the Arlington Heights Police Department, although she added she did not believe Lovi was a threat to himself or others.

A few hours later, Lovi got a call from police, who asked if he had any weapons in his 中国体彩官方app. Lovi told them yes, he had a valid FOID card and three antique firearms, including a musket that was more than 100 years old, but that he had no ammunition. That night officers showed up at Lovi’s house, where he says they entered without a warrant and confiscated his weapons. The next day the police told him he had to have a psychiatric examination. Lovi’s lawsuit says police threatened that if he didn’t go into the ambulance willingly, they would handcuff him and physically put him in the ambulance. Lovi was released later that day after a medical evaluation determined he was not a danger to himself or others. Lovi was never arrested or charged with a crime. He says he tried to get his guns back several times, but it wasn’t until two months later, when he hired an attorney to help him, that the guns were returned. He then filed a civil rights lawsuit and two years later a jury found Arlington Heights police officers guilty. If the jury decision stands appeal, Illinois law says the individual officers would be responsible for paying those damages.

Parents of Aurora Victim Might Pay $220k For Frivolous Lawsuit

With backing from the , the four online retailers for selling equipment and ammunition to the shooter. Claiming that the firms should have somehow known the mental state of the purchaser, Sandy and Lonnie Phillips sued for unspecified damages and changes to business practices.

At the time of the suit, many noted that a federal law, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act of 2005, protected firearms firms from lawsuits based on the acts of their customers. Colorado had a similar law, but added a provision that allows defendants to recover their fees and costs from unsuccessful plaintiffs. The lawsuit was always a longshot, and it failed in federal court. In dismissing the case, the judge ruled that the defendants may collect appropriate damages from the plaintiffs and their attorneys. In the resulting fee application, the Brady Center was specifically named for fostering the political lawsuit.

Defendant Lucky Gunner requested that the judgement be recovered equally from the Phillips and their attorneys. As the Phillips were represented by both their attorneys and the Brady Centers’, there is a possibility that the Brady’s might have to pay something for their abuse of the legal system. One can only hope.

While we deeply sympathize with the Phillips over the tragic loss of their daughter, we would remind them of the old proverb: If you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas.

Threats Coming to Our Door

We have several international terrorism stories that may have direct impact to this nation.

In Italy, police are working to round up eighteen . Nine suspects have already been arrested; another nine are being sought, some may have escaped the country中国体彩官方app. Prosecutors believe they were behind a failed 2010 plot to attack the Vatican as well as a Pakistan market bombing that killed more than a 100 a year earlier. It is not known what they were doing in Italy.

Italian officials are responding to the threats of the Islamic State group to conquer Rome and destroy the Vatican. Security has been beefed up at the Vatican, but there is no information about any specific threat.

In France, a in the leg, foiling plans for attacks on two churches. Police followed a trail of blood to a car were a stash of weapons including a Kalashnikov was found. More weapons and evidence of the terrorist plot were seized from the suspect’s 中国体彩官方app. DNA evidence ties the suspect to this week’s murder of a woman near the French capital. Police are searching for the others involved in the plot.

French Prime Minister Manuel Valls warned that his country中国体彩官方app was facing an unprecedented terrorist threat.

Eight miles south of the Texas border, a Mexican military personnel identified an . The heavily-defended camp sits in the Mexican state of Chihuahua, a haven for drug cartels. Another sits across from Columbus, New Mexico. The Examiner reports that Obama is aware of ISIS and other Islamists in Mexico but is ignoring the threats to avoid compromising his amnesty program.

Islamist have openly bragged about targeting Western civilization. The military, malls, and now religious congregations are on their list. Their plans have brought them to Europe and now North America. As Americans, Christians and Jews have been targeted, it is up to us to be ready.

Paul- I want our listeners to know we send our staff to the far corners of the earth to cover stories. Rob had to drive about an hour to hear Ed Peruta speak to a tea party group. Tell us about it.

Rob- It was tough, Paul. You used to live in south San Diego County. Ed Peruta spoke in Ramona California. He spoke at the Ramona Tea Party event held at the Ramona Mainstage. I ordered a hotdog and beer while we listened to Ed.

Ed now runs a news service covering breaking stories in the North East. He also does legal investigations for Attorney Rachel M Baird in Torrington, Connecticut. Ed is also a director at Connecticut Carry.

Let me give you some background about Ed. He joined the marines when he was 17 years old to fight in Vietnam. He is deeply patriotic and supports law enforcement. He was a policeman for two years. He was dismissed because he did not shoot a black man when he was running away. Ed also hates dishonest policemen and politicians. He is skeptical about every claim made by a government official.

He has a firearms permit in Connecticut, Utah and Florida, but getting a permit is not about guns for him. It is about the constitution. You can get a hearing to have food stamps in Connecticut, and you must have your hearing within 60 days. They can stall you for two years to get a permit in Connecticut. That makes Ed angry.

Ed has several apartments across the country中国体彩官方app, including one in San Diego. Ed was living in his motor 中国体彩官方app with his wife when they visited San Diego one winter. He spoke to the local gun shops and asked about a concealed carry permit. Then he did what any investigator does, he read up on the suspects and interviewed them. He read about “good cause” in San Diego and recorded his two interviews with the San Diego deputies. He expected to be turned down.

At first the NRA, SAF and CRPA didn’t help him. Ed paid the first 15 thousand dollars of his own legal bills to get the case to trial. The NRA funded his case on appeal.

Ed has a permit in Connecticut. Notice these similarities between Connecticut and San Diego. Connecticut has 3.5 million people. San Diego County has 3.3 million. Connecticut covers 5, 500 square miles. San Diego County covers 4,500 square miles. The population and population density is very similar. Connecticut has 203 thousand concealed carry permits, or 4.5 percent of the population. San Diego has 1200 permits, or .04 percent.

Ed is in his mid sixties. He said, I may not get to see the case settled, but I hope you will! The legal case, Peruta VS San Diego will change the lives of 60 million americans.

Here he is after his talk.

Paul, play audio (Insert quote)

He was as comfortable with a tea party group as he is giving legal testimony.

(who???) Gun Quotes- If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country中国体彩官方app will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin. Samuel Adams

Rob- Let me comment on Jews can shoot. Some of my friends feel they need to be perfect instructors before they take a friend shooting. Doris would like to be perfect, but progress is more important than perfection. She is a teacher and a student. She has some lectures in mind with police officers, assistant district attorneys, and defense lawyers. That should be interesting.

This story was emailed to us by listener and frequent email correspondent Anthony L. Thanks to all of our listeners who frequently email us to let us know about stories that they think we may be interested in! You knew this next story was bound to happen in Chicago. A licensed concealed carry holder was also a driver for Uber. He was waiting in the Logan Square area while a group of people walked in front of his car. That is when Everardo Custodio began firing into the crowd. The Uber driver pulled out a handgun fired six shots and hit Custodio. No other injuries were reported. The Chicago Police chief said concealed carry holders were a danger to the public, but this Uber driver is a better shot than Chicago and New York police officers.

中国体彩官方appowner Defends Himself From Driveway Robbery

A Conway Arkansas 中国体彩官方appowner effectively and somewhat exuberantly defended his life Monday night. Two men interrupted James Allen’s walk toward his car and demanded money. He drew his CCW, but the robbers shot first and missed. Mr Allen then performed a fighting retreat behind a hail of 20 bullets. The altercation left holes in a neighborhood house and Mr Allen’s car. Fortunately, no one was injured and unfortunately, there have been no arrests.

The value of suppressive fire has long been known by the military. And while we will not argue with success, Mr Allen’s neighbors might have appreciated a bit of restraint. We must reiterate that a shooter is morally and legally responsible for every round he or she fires.

A Self-Defense Shooter is Shot in Self-Defense

A woman learned the harsh fact that a self-defense situation doesn’t stop with the shot.

The Huntsville, Alabama woman was forced to shoot when her armed estranged husband invaded the house she shares with her mother. When the police arrived, she was standing in her garage holding a shotgun. When ordered to drop the gun, the woman, who could have been in shock or partially deafened, turned toward the cops with the gun. At least one officer fired. The woman is expected to survive, her ex is in critical condition.

Self-defense instructors point to the first contact with the police as an especially dangerous time. If possible, someone should meet the cops and explain the situation. Again, if possible, no gun should be near the victim’s hands; it should be either holstered or put on the ground well away from the perpetrator. It goes without saying that the victim should be as non-threatening as possible and immediately follow the cop’s instructions. If there is a doubt, slowly getting flat on the ground with hands spread would seem to be a good course.

Shopper Interjects Himself Into a Family Feud

A simple trip to the grocery store got a lot more complicated for a Little Rock, Arkansas man Wednesday. Walking out with his groceries, the man identified as Gene saw an elderly man being attacked by seven younger men. He could not ignore that situation, so he dropped his groceries and drew his concealed weapon. He stopped the attack – and provided all CCW carriers with a learning opportunity.

The altercation Gene had injected himself into did stop. However, another shopper dialed 911 and reported him as a man waving a gun. Others hung around a potential gunfight taking video and pictures. The men told him this wasn’t his fight and to put his gun down. When the police finally arrived, both the attackers and the victim had long since fled.

Gene had involved himself in a situation that most cops dread: a family feud. The old man was being set upon by his nephew. What looked like a serious attack might have really been a loud, somewhat physical argument. Fortunately, Gene maintained his composure and kept his finger outside the trigger guard and alongside the pistol.

Several bystanders indicated they would have also have acted as Gene did. So, what would you have done?

Self-defense philosopher Michael Bane strongly cautions about getting involved in someone else’s problem. It is almost impossible to correctly grasp a situation at a glance. Is that man wrestling a woman a rapist — or a husband trying to restrain his wife from hurting herself? Michael urges people to first ensure the safety of themselves and their loved ones, and only then act as a good observer for the cops.

Although we certainly tip our hat to Gene and his decision to help an elderly gentleman, we must reiterate that as concealed carriers we are not law enforcement; rather, we are sheepdogs protecting a very small flock.

Don’t Torque-Off the Old Gal

A kindly old Fort Worth grandmother proved she was made of much sterner stuff than her age would suggest.

Jewell Turner, 74, rolled down her minivan window to help a stranger asking for directions. That stranger put a knife to her throat and demanded the contents of her purse. The Old Gal thought about what was in her purse, briefly considered her deceased husband’s switchblade, but instead choose the handgun. “I just reached down, got the gun and turned around and pointed it to his face. And I told him; ‘You back off, or I’ll blow your head off.’ “

Turner said she felt taken advantage of by the man, who preyed upon her sense of kindness. “This let me know there is a dark side,” Turner said. “I noticed there was a dark side in me, too. Because when I first pulled that gun on him I actually wanted to shoot him. But I stopped and thought about it. I just hope they find him before he hurts somebody, or somebody hurts him.” Somebody like a steely-haired grandmother.

As for that very, very lucky stranger, the pistol-packing granny remembered that “…his eyes got big and he just backed up and he took off walking down the street like nothing happened.” No doubt resolving to never again Torque-Off an Old Gal.

We post each of our news and defensive gun use articles at Polite Society Podcast.com Please take a minute and share them with a friend.

Segment 5 Show close

Paul- Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote about a new gun ban at San Diego’s Petco Park where the Padres play. The local police and the team owners don’t want concealed carriers in the park. Now they won’t let off-duty law enforcement officers into the park either. It is a political decision, not a security decision.

I also wrote about the new Pew Research poll we covered in the news. It made me laugh at the news media. The news media sensationalize crime and violence.. and then they seem surprised when their viewers think we live in an unusually violent world. It comes as a shock to the journalists, but an armed society is a polite society. Take an example from the NRA convention. Even the police could relax when 80 thousand gun owners had their back in Nashville.

John do you want to mention anything off of your blog you would like to talk about?

I have started my blog series . It will profile the attorneys who are behind the lawsuits intended to curtail gun rights. Many of these lawyers are with large law firms and they are donating their legal expertise pro bono or free to the Brady Center and other groups. Lawyers and others who practice lawfare on the Second Amendment need to be exposed for the anti-civil rights bigots that they are. The first to be profiled will be law professor David Kairys who’s theories were used in many of the early lawsuits in the 90s and early 2000s.

You can find this and other posts at onlygunsandmoney.blogspot.com.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Rob- They advertise the NRA annual meeting as 9 acres of guns and gear. That misses the point. There are acres of experts waiting to meet to you. I talked with Col. David Grossman, John Lott, Michael Bane, Anette Wachter, Rick Ector, Jim Clark, Joyce and Bill Wilson, Katie Pavlich, Cam Edwards, Tom Gresham, Mark Walters and his family, Julianne Versnal and Alan Gottlieb, David Jensen, Tatiana Whitlock, Laura Carno, Tim Schmidt, Billy and Rachel Johnson, Jim Curtis, Mike Vanderboegh, Dean Weingarten, David Cole and the bloggers. I listened to Rob Pincus, but didn’t get to talk with him.

I added a customized sight to my Mosin-Nagant. Then I sold a gun, bought a gun, and ordered a gun belt.

John-I’m not sure if I talked with as many people as Rob but I did talk with a lot. The NRA Annual Meeting was great for catching up with old friends as well as making new ones such as Richard Johnson of Guns Holsters and Gear. Unfortunately there are too many old friends to mention or we’d never finish the show. I was invited to the rollout of the new Glock 43 and got to shoot it. It is a solid little gun that should sell well but should not be considered a beginner’s gun. I also attended the Annual Firearms Law Seminar which was time well spent. It gave me the idea to start a series of blog posts called Bad Apple Lawyers which is a play on the Brady Center’s Bad Apple Gun Dealer lawsuits. I think it is past time to call out the attorneys at “Big Law” who are donating their time pro bono to curtail our 2nd Amendment rights.

My only regret is that I didn’t get enough time on the show floor to see more of the gun collector displays. Those historical firearms tell a story and I didn’t get to hear all of it.

(Weekend shows only) I am going to insert a live promo about upcoming training classes in Sioux Falls here.

-Maine Governor Paul LePage signed a law legalizing automatic opening knives. Freshman Representative Joel Stetkis helped pass the bill. The new law takes effect 90 days after the legislature adjourns, so we can’t really give you a date at this point. Automatic knives are now legal for civilians without restriction in 27 states, and legal with various restrictions in 10 more.

College’s Gun-Free Zone Failure

All the laws, policies, surveillance cameras, campus security, no-guns signs and gun-free zones .

Ron Lane, a long-time employee at Wayne Community College in Goldsboro, North Carolina was shot and killed Monday morning. Armed with a rifle, a former student stalked the victim across the gun-free zone and finally cornered him in a campus bathroom. There, a single shot ended the employee’s life. The alleged killer escaped and was eventually captured on a beach in Florida.

School was in session at the time of the murder. A student reported that her teacher moved them to a corner of the classroom, turned off the lights, and barricaded the door with a table. Innocents cowering in the dark without any real protection is a chilling metaphor for what comes from the sheep-like reliance on gun-free zones.
We call on our bureaucratic managers to recognize that evil will not stop at the edge of a fantasy. Gun-free zones only ensure that the law-abiding will be helpless to resist the lawless. It’s a tragedy that people will die – have died – because of that fiction.

John – This was a targeted attack. The killer, whose face and head are covered with Nazi and white supremacy tattoos, was not going to be deterred by mere signs.

Oregon Legislatures Pushing Gun Sale Background Check has Citizens Pushing Recall

Bloomberg’s billions are making gun-control inroads in the Oregon state legislature. A long delayed universal background check bill patterned after the Bloomberg inspired Colorado fiasco has passed the Oregon Senate. Just like in Colorado, this initiative has riled the populace. Just like in Colorado, certain legislatures are feeling the hot breath of recalls.

Three petitions for recall have been filed against the anti-gun bill’s cosponsors and the Democrat leader of the Oregon House, who expects to move the bill quickly though her chamber. The petitions are not restricted to gun rights complaints, but encompass other issues such as education funding. Other recall petitions are surely possible. Sufficient signatures must be collected before a special election is called.

Like Colorado, the recall efforts come from grass-root sources. The two small organizations are aware of each other, but only connected informally. There is the possibility of funding from gun-rights organizations.

Although these efforts are in their infancy, they are following the same unlikely peoples protest that occurred in Colorado. We wish them the incredible success of Colorado.

At least one sheriff doesn’t plan on enforcing the background checks if the proposed measure that passed the senate does indeed become law. Sheriff Dave Daniel, from Josephine County has stated that “I can’t enforce that law, so therefore it won’t be enforced,” He continued, “I have felonies going on daily in Josephine County. That’s my priorities.”

If it becomes law SB941 would require background checks for all firearms sales, including private sales. It would make a sale without a background check a class b misdemeanor.

Our Old Friend Dudley Brown is at It Again.

Speaking of Colorado, it appears our old friend Brown, who heads both NAGR and Rocky Mtn Gun Owners, wants the Colorado magazine size limit repealed, all or nothing. There was a move that many Democrats could support that would raise the size of the mag limit to 30 rounds. In other words, virtually all standard capacity handgun magazines and 99% of AR mags would become legal again. However, anything other than a complete repeal wasn’t good enough for Dudley and which would have helped Colorado gun owners went down the tubes. To make matters worse, Dudley has promised primary challenges to 5 Republicans who voted to abide by House rules after a House committee rejected the Senate bill that would have lifted the ban. in an editorial regarding Brown and RMGO that they are, “notorious for launching primary challenges against pro-gun conservatives, replacing them with ineffective activists who reject incremental victories and the art of compromise.”

John – Incrementalism or taking what you can get this time is how the gun banners have achieved so much over time. We in the gun rights movement are stupid if we don’t learn that lesson. In military terms, full frontal attacks rarely succeed unlike flanking attacks.

NICS Mentally Defective List Is 99.3% Vets

Specifically, he wants to know why the list consists primarily of veterans and their families. The Congressional Research Service estimates that 99.3% of all names submitted to the NICS System’s mentally defective category come from the Veterans Administration even though all Fed agencies can submit names. Grassley wants to know the review process used to ensure that these names were properly put on the list as they have been singled out for deprivation of the Second Amendment rights. Grassley goes on to say “VA reports individuals to the gun ban list if an individual merely needs financial assistance managing VA benefits. Although the VA process is not designed to regulate firearm ownership, it results in veterans and their loved ones being barred from exercising their fundamental, Constitutionally-guaranteed Second Amendment rights.”

Police Officer Denied Medical Treatment

In what can only be considered a case of extreme hoplophobia, at the Walk In Urgent Care Center in Mansfield because, get this, he was carrying his firearm. The Center is posted against concealed carry but Ohio law exempts police officers from these prohibitions. Officer Liggett had sought treatment for his eye because he was seeing floaters and flashes. Instead of treating Officer Liggett, the urgent care center called the Mansfield Police Department who told him to come out of the treatment room with his hands up and then handcuffed him. After confirming Officer Liggett was indeed a police officer they returned his weapon. However, he was still denied treatment and escorted from the building. His eye condition was later diagnosed a retinal tear for which he has had two surgeries. This whole incident has Plymouth PD Chief Charles Doan very concerned saying, “”Officers carry to be prepared, and citizens do too. If you have a concealed carry and get hurt, are they going to say, ‘Get him out of here?’ ”

Magpul does it right!

At SHOT Show this year Magpul industries announced that they were starting to ship magazines for the glock 17 9mm. The mags received good reviews and left many gun owners wondering when they would be available for the .40 and .45.

This week Magpul released a statement titled “OK we screwed up.”

There seem to be issues with the new mags feeding into Glock 19’s and 26’s. Magpul not only immediately let the problem be known, they found a fix and started production on the fix immediately. They are going to replace the magazine body of every one sold so far. They expect new magazine bodies to be shipped May 5th. That is customer service and integrity. Remington are you paying attention?

Wal-Mart wins against an anti rights church

On Tuesday a federal appeals court issued a ruling that Wal-Mart can continue selling firearms and ammunition. This after a small church in New York filed suit trying to force the retailer to stop selling firearms that can accept a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds. The church had bought a few thousand shares of Wal-Mart stock went to court to try to force more oversight and make it harder for Wal-Mart to sell the guns. It should be noted that although buying a few thousand shares sounds impressive, the church actually owned less than one one hundredth of 1 percent of the company.

Daughter Actually Listens to Father – Possibly Saving Her Life

“Honestly, I mostly carry it because my dad wanted me to. Now I’m glad I listened.”

The unlikely decision to listen may have saved a young Indianapolis, Indiana woman from injury or worse. Crystal was on her way 中国体彩官方app from a grocery store late Friday night when she was ‘Shut up, be quiet, don’t say anything’ and the one here had a weapon,” said the victim. When one man made a grab for her, she started shooting, hitting one and forcing them all to flee. Police later arrested an 18 year-old with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. They’re still looking for the other two. Police found items in the suspects’ SUV from an apartment take-over robbery earlier that night. In that crime, the suspects pistol-whipped a defenseless woman.

Crystal has some advice for women: “Learn how to protect yourself if you don’t know how. Be more aware. I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings at all.”

I wonder if her father would share some secrets on getting a woman to listen?

Man Defends His Three Children From a Crazy in WalMart

A man used his licensed CCW to defend himself and his three children from an unprovoked attack in a Yakima, Washington WalMart.

Security video shows a 30 year-old transient suspect picking up an aluminum bat and striking the victim on the shoulder. No words had been exchanged between the two, they did not know each other; the attack was completely at random. Compounding the danger, the victim’s three children were within easy striking distance.

Faced with a potentially deadly situation, the victim drew his .357 SIG pistol. Store security heard a man in the sporting goods department shouting “Get on the ground!” and found one man pointing a pistol at another — who was indeed on the ground. Police arrived minutes later to arrest the proned-out assailant, who remains in jail on a $30,000 bond.

We certainly applaud the CCW holder for his foresight and his measured, textbook response to this desperate situation.

Phoenix Man Shoots Assailant Pistol Whipping Him

In a textbook Failure in the Victim Selection Process, as defined by Massad Ayoob, a 22 year-old thug was shot by the man he was pistol-whipping.

Early Sunday morning, three men were walking across a Phoenix bridge when a stranger approached, pulled a handgun, and pistol-whipped one of them. The victim pulled his own handgun and fired several shots, striking the assailant at least once. The alleged criminal expired at the scene.

The investigation is still on-going, but it seems to be a case of justifiable self-defense.

中国体彩官方app Invasion Crime Spree Ended By 中国体彩官方appowner With a Gun

A string of violent 中国体彩官方app invasions was ended by a 中国体彩官方appowner with a gun.

Two men went on a 中国体彩官方app-invasion crime spree in Madison, Wisconsin Friday morning. Their of crimes included armed breaking and entering into three 中国体彩官方apps and an assault on a 90 year old woman. It ended with a struggle and a shot fired.

Police were too late to help the first two residents. However, an armed citizen made all the difference in the third. At 10 in the morning, 911 received a panicked phone call from a woman locked in her bathroom. She had heard the sounds of a break-in and her husband had gone to investigate. Invader and 中国体彩官方appowner struggled and a shot was fired. The criminal dropped his weapon and was detained at gunpoint by the husband. The robber’s accomplice fled, but was nabbed before the getaway car got too far.

We applaud the bravery of the 中国体彩官方appowner. His actions successfully protected his wife and stopped a string of armed 中国体彩官方app-invasions – which could have very well lead to additional injuries or even deaths.

However, we need to point out that most self-defense instructors would recommend – if possible – holing up armed in a safe area and forcing the criminals to come to them. All the 中国体彩官方appowner’s possessions aren’t worth their lives. The cops will get there — eventually.

中国体彩官方app Invasion, Robbery, Kidnapping and Rape Ended by Neighbor’s Shot

If you don’t have a gun – it’s best to know somebody with a gun.

, three violent criminals splintered the front door of a sleeping Gadsden, Alabama woman. Looting the house wasn’t enough for one thug, he put a gun to the woman’s head and viciously raped her. Even that wasn’t enough, he continued to beat her while demanding all of her money. The desperate woman concocted a story that a neighbor down the street had the money.

The invader dragged the woman to the neighbor’s door at gunpoint. She pounded and pleaded for the unknowing man to give her the money, telling him that she was being threatened. The neighbor saw the gun and punched in 911. However, the thug didn’t give the cops the time to arrive. He yelled for the neighbor to hang up, punctuating his demands with two shots, and then aimed his gun at the 59 year-old man. That man was armed.

The neighbor’s single shot hit the rapist in the chest. The thug ran a short way, then collapsed in a heap and died.

The woman was taken to the hospital, the neighbor to police headquarters, the thug to the morgue. It was found that the dead criminal had packed a lot of violence into his 17 years. Police have not released the dead man’s name or a description of his two accomplices. The Etowah County DA’s office said they are reviewing the case to determine if any charges will be filed against the good samaritan. At this time the investigation is ongoing.

Stay aware, stay capable, stay safe out there — it’s a dangerous world.

Hi All,

I don’t think listener Ken in Phoenix can equate the “gun show loop hole” with “selling guns to felons”. Closing the “loop hole” does not ensure felons will not be able to buy firearms. Closing the “loop hole” does ensure additional fees, time, and steps to registration for the law abiding. The only dangerous sales that are “closed” at that point are the very rare number of private sales by law abiding sellers to someone without personally knowing the buyer or checking their CHL. Those could be eliminated by encouraging, (not requiring) those the law would realistically effect to ensure the buyer is a not a felon. What if we opened up the NICS check to private individuals to have the option (not requirement) to check on the background of a potential buyer, WITHOUT having to fill out a 4473?

BG check to registration is a far leap, I will give Ken that, but they are not 2 separate things . Currently there is a buyers name DOB and birth city, tied with an approval number; written on a 4473; that also contains make model and SN of a firearm and an address where that firearm could be found. It’s a big leap but it is feasible to use that as a defacto registration.

One final point. No tin hats here. I don’t believe Feinstein is gonna come a knockin’ across the country中国体彩官方app , “Mr. and Mrs. America turn them all in”. VERY unlikely. What is likely and is happening with more regularity is when someone says “That Paul guy and his wife Susan are hot heads, the only proof of that is my opinion. They can be disarmed of every firearm they have bought on a 4473 if tell the state my opinion”.

I just thought I’d write in about the discussion you had on background checks and the “gun show loophole” prompted by the listener e-mail.

I understand the confusion about the loophole the listener expressed, and you are correct – It is already illegal to knowingly sell a gun to a felon. The issue is that it’s difficult if not impossible to know who is and is not a felon when you’re exchanging e-mails on a local listings site or chatting with someone at the range. Dealing only with those with CCW permits greatly reduces your potential buyer pool, so most transactions don’t take place with that kind of restriction, in my experience.

I share your fear of a de-facto gun registry, but what if instead we just had a registry of who is NOT allowed to own guns?. Everyone else, gun owners, anti-gunners, and every schmo on the street who hasn’t even thought of buying a gun would have the same mark on their license or other ID, and only those who were specifically prohibited from owning guns would have an identifying mark. After all, felony convictions are public record, and there’s no right to privacy on those that I’m aware of. This proposal would basically just take what is public record and make it more easily accessible to people on the street. In return for this concession, I would expect universal CCW reciprocity and a loosening of the restrictions on NFA items like suppressors and short barreled firearms.

You could of course still have people cheating the system with fake ID’s, but even now people can cheat the system the same way by stealing an ID of someone else and lying on the 4473 form, or even faking a CCW permit to get out of the background check entirely (in some states).

Thanks, and keep on truckin’

Rob- I want to comment on a discussion you had last week. Ken wrote in and said-

“A private sale, be it at a gun show or in my back yard, without a background check, is a loophole in selling firearms, since background checks are required by licensed retailers but not by private individuals. When I say I am for closing the “gun show loophole”, I want to make sure guns aren’t being sold to felons.”

Ken, I have to criticize you, not for your intentions, but for your methods. What you propose doesn’t work. We know it doesn’t work. You said “I want to pass a law that criminals will obey.. and if it doesn’t work, I’ll pass another law.” No amount of firearms prohibition has been effective in disarming criminals. You have disarmed honest men and women. You’ve also enabled anti-rights politicians who claim their unending stream of prohibitions might “save one life” somewhere someday. Ken, I know you are thoughtful, so I’d like you to find a firearms regulation that has shown to be both effective and the least intrusive means to achieve the claimed result.

Paul, I want to argue with you. You complain about a background check where a federal registry is possible.. and you’re ok using a concealed carry permit where a federal registry is a certainty.

State Gun Rights Advancements

There have been many states gun rights advancements this week:
First, Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signs pro-Second Amendment reform . The new NRA-backed laws will reduce concealed carry permit fees, allow permitless concealed carry in purses and briefcases, and streamline enhanced carry training requirements for active military and veterans. Other key provisions of the measures include protection from federal over-regulation of commonly-owned rifle ammunition, lowering the age requirement for a carry permit from 21 to 18 for National Guard or Reserve unit personnel, and clarifying limits on where cities and counties can regulate enhanced carry permit holders.

Congratulations Mudcats!

Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has signed which compels Chief Law Enforcement Officers (CLEO’s) to certify ATF National Firearms Act paperwork for any applicant who is not a prohibited possessor by state or federal law. Arkansas becomes the eighth state to enact “Shall Certify”.

We congratulate the NFA Freedom Alliance for their excellent work, as well as the citizens of Arkansas.

Sowee, Razorbacks!

Continuing this Gun Freedom Spring, are considering abolishing a concealed carry permit requirement in the state. Maine allows Open Carry without a permit, but requires someone to have a permit if their jacket covers their gun. The bill is a way of telling Maine residents that lawmakers are not going to treat you like a criminal if you put a jacket on.

Sound great! Get on it Maineiacs!

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has signed that allows workers to sue their employers if they are fired for storing guns in cars parked on company lots. This law specifies that the companies’ 4th Amendment property rights cannot trump the 2nd Amendment rights of the employees.

Congratulations to all Tennesseans.

Torrance Police Department’s Theft of a Gun Collection

A gun restoration policy.

The Torrance, California Police Department is for the failure to return a man’s firearm collection and its eventual destruction. For nearly three years, TPD kept 17 firearms worth $15,800, ignored two court orders to return them, and finally destroyed the collection. In that collection were several irreplaceable family heirlooms. This high-handed arrogance will cost Torrance $30,000.

It should have cost them much more.

Torrance resident Michael Roberts had surrendered his firearms early in 2010 when a temporary restraining order was filed against him. When the TRO was lifted, Roberts asked for his firearms. Citing Cal DOJ’s Law Enforcement Gun Release letter, Torrance PD refused. The DOJ’s letter wrongly implies that police should not return guns unless the person can document their ownership and the gun is in the DOJ’s database. The law simply does not allow the DOJ to impose those bureaucratic hurdles.

“It’s been an ongoing problem for years, said attorney Chuck Michel, who filed the. Cities such as San Francisco and Oakland have also been sued based on the same erroneous interpretation, and those cities settled their cases and revised their procedures.” Roberts’ dilemma in dealing with a law enforcement agency that doesn’t follow the law is fairly common, said a CRPA spokesman.

The lawsuit alleged a malicious motive on the part of the department, which willfully disobeyed judicial orders in order to punish Roberts for not yielding to Torrance PD’s unlawful registration policy. A settlement was reach for more than the value of the firearms and requires a change to TPD’s policies. Unfortunately, it’s the citizens of Torrance that will pay the bill. Although It is hard to see this as anything but theft under the color of authority, police and city officials will not personally answer for their disregard of the law.

The citizens of Torrance might just want to take a hard look at their government: it seems it’s no longer a servant, but a terrible master.

[Rob may have had some experience with Torrance. Charlie Foxtrot certainly has, and pretty much considers them all <Expletives Deleted>.]

‘Boma’s Heart is Broken – Here’s Hoping Mooseshell Breaks His @$$
With his habitual obsessive use of I, me and my, Obama announced through that he hasn’t given up on gun control.

to ABC News’ chief Health and Medical editor, Obama once again blamed Sandy Hook on firearms, ignoring the mental illness that many see as the real cause. He blamed Congress, the gun lobby, the NRA and its “intense” members (Guilty!) for the resisting his laws. Obama promised to take steps toward tougher gun policies by administratively tightening up background checks, then oddly free-associated gun control with illegal drug runners. He expressed an intense desire to “chip away” on the NRA’s hold on Congress. He even brought up the tired ol’ cliche that “most gun owners recognized the need for “common sense gun safety laws.” “

It may be telling that Obama choose to be by the fawning Dr. Richard Besser on a location festooned with medical devices and… errrr… unmoving (dead?) patient readouts. Obama might be returning to the old theme that firearms must be controlled as a medical health risk. He seems to be running out of ideas as well as time.

Obama has less than two years to affect gun control and the other hard-left Progressive causes he longs for. These next two years may well be the most dangerous ever for the Republic and the Constitution. Obama’s desperation for a legacy may prompt further unconstitutional executive orders. We must be eternally vigilant. And Intense.

‘Boma Wins Gun Salesman of the Year – Again
Typifying this misadministration’s talent for unanticipated consequences, Obama’s push for gun control backfired as the soared.

In 2013 – the latest data available – more than 10.8 million firearms were manufactured, double the total three years before. Obama’s attempt to capitalize on the Sandy Hook tragedy encouraged a significant amount of buyer purchases, as did the gun control efforts in states like California, Colorado and New York. An unprecedented amount of first time buyers responded to the now or never realities by entering the gun culture with a purchase.

“The surge in firearms sales in 2013 reflects both a long-term upward trend in shooting sports participation and [a] particular concern that year that law-abiding gun owners and those interested in purchasing a firearm for the first time could face tougher restrictions affecting access to and selection of firearms,” said Mike Bazinet, spokesman for the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

Dr. John R. Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, said polling shows a fundamental shift in attitudes. Americans increasingly believing that the right to bear arms must be protected and increasingly see guns as a way to make 中国体彩官方apps safer.

Another measure of the change in firearms popularity is the steadily increasing number of concealed carry permits, which are said to have tripled over the last few years. Nationally, concealed carry permits have grown from 4.6 million in 2007 to more than 12 million now, according to Dr. Lott.

Americans Refusing to Feel Guilty Over Self Defense
In an on-air editorial, Fox News’ that the establishment media’s gun control arguments are increasingly falling on deaf ears because Americans refuse to feel guilty over using guns for self-defense. Many have simply realize that there are seconds–and frequently, agonizing minutes–between the time they dial 911 and the time police arrive.

that concealed carry is surging in the black community, and no less a prominent figure than Detroit Police Chief James Craig explained that this is a historic shift. Craig explained that Detroit residents have simply come to realize that good guys with guns really can protect their own lives and the lives of their neighbors.

NRA Throws Down Against Hillary
“I vow on this day the NRA will stand shoulder to shoulder with you and good, honest decent Americans and we will stand and fight with everything we’ve got. And in 2016, by God, we will elect the next great president of the United States of America and it will not be Hillary Rodham Clinton,” said at last week’s NRA Annual Meeting by Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

“She will not bring a dawn of new promise and opportunity. It would be a permanent darkness of deceit and despair forced upon the American people.” LaPierre said Clinton has long been a threat to Second Amendment rights. “She’s been coming after us for decades,” he said.

LaPierre did not mention any Republican presidential candidates, rather he focused on Hillary’s unsuitableness for the office. “One day America will elect a woman… not because of her gender but because of her character and integrity and moral fitness to hold the highest office in land,” LaPierre said. “That is how a candidate should be judged.

Northeast Harris County Texas Suppressive Fire

The Internet often asks just how many rounds should be carried in a self-defense firearm. The answer is: just one more than you’ll need.

A Northeast Harris County, Texas man needed a lot of rounds to three children and a woman from two trigger-happy 中国体彩官方app invaders. He was asleep on the couch when the criminals kicked open the door and came in firing. The man grabbed a handgun and returned their fire. Not too effectively, as the uninjured suspects ran to a waiting car and took off. The resident, who’s apparently a little grumpy when woken, continued to fire at the departing car. He expended about 10 rounds defending the lives of the occupants.

While our hero’s marksmanship wasn’t the best, his swarm of bullets did accomplish the goal. However, it should be noted that each bullet has a cop and a lawyer attached to it – the shooter is morally and legally responsible for every round fired. So – if possible – a little restraint on the trigger finger is warranted. And, if the threat has ended, and the criminals are running away screaming like little girls, don’t chase them into the street and continue to fire – get some coffee, dude.

Texas Woman Shoots (Now) Ex-Boyfriend

Don’t mess with Texas. Especially with the Texas dames.

A couple brought their to a Houston area gas station. The man jumped in and out of the car several times, hit the driver in her face, and forced the woman from behind the wheel. The man then attempted to crash the vehicle. Fearing for her safety, the woman shot the crazy, now ex-boyfriend, wounding him in the leg.

The suspect was taken to the hospital, and the woman was questioned by the cops. Currently the police believe the shooting was justifiable self-defense. The district attorney has the final say, but the woman is not expected to be charged.

Third World Problems – Here

Reminiscent of lawlessness in Africa, South America and the Middle East, someone may be in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Late one night, a driver encountered a blockade of several cones across the roadway. When the driver got out to remove them, he was approached by three or four people. Happily, the driver had the foresight to go armed, and the potential assailants ran when the driver pulled his gun. Police were unable to find the highway bandits. police have reported several similar incidents.

Law enforcement warn individuals that if they approach a completely barricaded roadway to follow these simple steps:

  1. Lock your vehicle doors and Call 911 immediately (911 will know if there is an issue with the road being closed)
  2. Turn around and use an alternate route if possible, or wait in a secure area for law enforcement to arrive or advise that it is clear.

We would add a 3rd: Stay aware and stay safe – and carry your legal concealed carry firearm.

It’s a dangerous world out there.

I listened to episode 323 and during the 2nd news segment, the subject was the Oregon background check S.B. 941 and an amendment to the bill which would have eliminated the need for state background check. The amendment was submitted by Senator Kim Thatcher would have prohibited persons identified as such on their Oregon drivers license or state issued ID card. Senator Thatcher’s amendment was later dismissed without discussion and S.B. 941 passed out of committee and will receive full senate vote next week. My concern that you dismissed the thought outright “it’s a solution looking for a problem” and “I would support neither of them”. I understand No Compromise and sometimes its just plain stupid. All it takes is a supermajority and bam you lose more rights like what is happening in Oregon now. S.B. 941 will be voted on next week then on to the Governor for signing. Who loses? The law abiding citizens of Oregon. I bet in a couple months that they would be grateful to have the prohibited persons inconvenienced in having to have their license marked. The No Compromise zealots in Washington state refused to vote for a competing bill I-591 to offset the odorous background check bill I-594 and called Allan Gotlieb a turncoat. That’s right the No Compromise folks called the man that runs the organization that has done more of the 2nd Amendment in the courts labeled a turncoat.
Later in the show you were asked how you would make a private sale of a firearm? You answered by asking and making a copy of their concealed carry permit and drivers license. Well I guess your not going to sell any firearms to non-CCL persons. Would a drivers license that has information if the person is or is not a prohibited person do the same. I think it would solve a problem for me because if I sell a firearm I’m going down to the local pawn shop and paying the $20.00 transfer fee just for my own piece of mind. Paul I understand that the 2nd Amendment is your permit to carry, purchase what have you it’s the other 319 million people you need to convince and they all have their faces stuck to a phone with drool oozing out their mouths.
I always enjoy your show and wish it was a full show twice a week. I also like hearing Rob on both your show and Ken Blanchard’s “Black Man With a Gun” show. Thanks

We will have to agree to disagree on this. Perhaps it is just semantics, but I think your premise is wrong. A private sale, be it at a gun show or in my back yard, without a background check, is a loophole in selling firearms, since background checks are required by licensed retailers but not by private individuals.

When I say I am for closing the “gun show loophole”, I want to make sure guns aren’t being sold to felons. It’s a huge leap from “background check” to “registration of every firearm”. These as 2 separate things. You can run a background check and never list the firearm in a “gun registry database”.

If we all agree that it’s the bad person and not the bad gun that commits the crime, I don’t see how checking out the criminal record of an individual before selling him the gun is a problem. On the other hand, registration of any gun is a bad thing.

Just my opinions.

We have waiting periods in California, so I got my Glock19. I also ordered new holsters for it, from Jason at Concealment Solutions. I’m looking for suggestions about replacement sights. Anyone?

I went to sell a gun and order another gun, but I was reminded I can’t buy another handgun for the next 20 days. Welcome中国体彩官方app to california with its one gun a month rule. I was able to put a deposit down on a small 22 handgun for students with small hands, so the range will hold it for me. I can finish the order and application when I’m back from the NRA convention. Mailed in my Arizona and Utah non-resident CCW applications. Read news for Kenn Blanchard. I wrote an article about campus carry and interviewed Amber Kuneau about campus carry. I contacted Doug Ritter and Kathy Jackson for interviews. I promoted Dr. John Lott’s fundraiser on my blog.

I also had something strange happen on my blog. Somebody in a forum reposted one of my old articles. That sent about 600 people over to my site to look at it.. and I have no idea where they came from. Not a clue.

John – I’ve been doing a lot of work and 中国体彩官方app related stuff so that I won’t have to worry about it this coming week with the NRA Annual Meeting. We’ve had my older stepdaughter and her husband here visiting over the Easter Weekend. It’s great to have family here over the holiday.

There is always too much to see and do at the Annual Meeting. I will get to test out the new Glock 43 on Thursday but can’t go to the Dr. John Lott event due to a conflicting event.

Paul – Working hard on the audio book. made progress in turning the podcast into a real business. Recorded interviews already for the show and am getting ready to head out tomorrow for another week of work. I really wish I could attend the NRAAM, but unfortunately it isn’t in the cards for me this year.

Christie Pardons Shaneen Allen

Exhibiting none of the decisive aggressiveness he’s shown around the buffet tables, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has finally done the right thing and.

Shaneen Allen and SonsBurlington County Times

Eighteen months ago, Allen was arrested for mistakenly taking her concealed carry pistol into New Jersey. Allen was pulled over for a minor traffic offense, and, as an honest citizen, she immediately informed the officer that she was carrying a weapon. The cops’ reactions were likewise immediate, they slapped on the cuffs and charged her with multiple felonies.

The single mother of two spent the next 46 days in jail when Prosecutor James McClain decided to make an example of her. Even though Allen had a clean record, he denied her a diversion program and threatened to crush her with the full power of the state. She faced a miserable future of more than 11 years in prison. All for an offense without intent, nor victim.

However, festering corruption like Jersey’s can rarely stand continuous attention: Weeks later, McClain cynically sent a woman-beating professional football player into the same diversion program he denied Allen. That travesty caused gun rights organizations, and the odd , to ignite a nation-wide firestorm. McClain had to ungracefully back-down and let Allen into the diversion program.

Now, still feeling the residual heat, Christie has pardoned Allen. However, the insane laws that jailed her remain in force. Hundreds of other law-abiding citizens, like Brian Aitken, are destroyed for similar petty violations of the state’s draconian, unconstitutional, gun laws. Christie has done nothing to stop those injustices.

You can choke on your Presidential ambitions, big guy.

Gary – I read the pardon, and find it interesting that the Governor can revoke the pardon at anytime, but a Presidential Pardon can not be revoked ever.

Listener Anthony sent this in by e-mail. Governor Brownback Signs Permitless Carry Into Law. Here is a look at the other end of the political spectrum with a governor that does support the rights of his citizens: Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed permitless concealed carry into law. Five states have now adopted Constitutional Carry.

We reported on the bill’s passage through the legislature last week. The Kansas bill enjoyed strong bipartisan support in both legislative branches as well as broad popularity with Kansans. Now, Gov Brownback’s signature has made it law. Opponents were quick to quibble with the freedoms – and corresponding responsibilities – inherent in the bill. Predictably, some of the loudest screeching was from Bloomberg’s Demanding Moms. Disputing the Second Amendment deniers, Brownback noted that the state’s experience with concealed carry has been both positive and safe.
Again, Congratulations Jayhawks!

(Paul- Insert applause sound effect here)

FBI Director Supports Concealed Carriers

FBI Director James Comey was testifying before a House Committee when he expressed support for Concealed Carriers. Comey stated – under oath – that in his decades long law enforcement career he’s never had a problem with concealed carriers. He seemed genuinely supportive of the armed citizen.

Although his political masters can’t be happy about that comment, we applaud FBI Direct Comey for his integrity and honesty.

Operation Choke Point

Last week we discussed the Misadministration’s , which abuses the regulatory process in order to deny financial services to businesses that they feel are objectionable. Politically incorrect firms such as the tobacco, coal and gun industries have been .

In Florida, there’s strong indications that the . recently received notice that the Suntrust Bank would be closing their accounts within 10 days. No reason for the closure was given; the business is said to be an exemplary customer with perfect credit and no overdrafts.

The owner demanded an explanation. A bank representative wasn’t sure why Suntrust was closing his account, but they did know that a lot of gun shops had received similar letters all across the country中国体彩官方app. It was a corporate decision. The gun store owner plans on talking to an attorney.
In a society where bakers are forced by law to make cakes, how is this possible? Oh… right… a pen and a phone.

Sarah Brady Dies
Sarah Brady, wife of James Brady and head of the anti-rights has died. Her life was tragically altered by a madman’s attack on President Reagan. Her husband, James Brady, was severely injured while in service to this country中国体彩官方app. The staff of the Polite Society Podcast would like to extend their sincere condolences to Sarah Brady’s friends and family.

Eddie Eagle

In an effort that actually protects the youth of America, the NRA’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe(R) program has now reached 26 million children in all 50 states. The nonpartisan program instructs school children on what to do if they encounter a firearm. The Stop! Don’t Touch! Get an Adult! training has certainly contributed to the plunging accidental death by firearms rates. We congratulate the NRA for their excellent program and their community spirit.

The District of Columbia Drops Concealed Carry Appeal
The and the report that the District of Columbia has dropped its appeal of a federal judge’s ruling last July that struck down the city’s ban on carrying firearms in public. The case, known as Palmer v. District of Columbia, declared the ban on carrying firearms outside of the 中国体彩官方app to be unconstitutional.

Unfortunately, the District’s decision is not the rush to sanity that it seems. The city is dropping it defense of Palmer to focus on defending its new concealed carry law against constitutional challenge. SAF founder Alan Gottlieb noted that the District’s current carry law is.

Under the present scheme, permit applicants must provide a good reason for carrying a firearm, and the police chief gets to decide whether that reason is valid. So far, few applicants have been approved, Gottlieb said, and that is “a fundamental flaw. No public official should enjoy that kind of sway over a citizen’s right to bear arms. It creates a manifestly unfair system that is wide open to abuse and favoritism, as we’ve seen in New York, California and elsewhere that insiders and elitists can get permits, but average citizens are routinely given second-class consideration, or no consideration at all.”

We wish Alan Gottlieb Godspeed!

Comment- Rob- Ask your congressman to disapprove the DC carry law.

More Guns = Less Crime — Even in California

California’s inmates continue their appetite for handguns despite all their betters do to frustrate their wishes. show an increasing rate of legal handguns purchases, while gun violence, which largely involves handguns, has continued to fall.

In his blog piece, attorney Chuck Michel of CalGunLaws.com discussed the discordinate trends within California. Contrary to claims made by the gun banning politicians, California’s plummeting gun violence rate has no statistical relationship to the new gun control laws. The new gun control laws greatly inconvenience the law abiding gun owners and buyers, but had nothing to do with the declining crime rate. Mitchel credits the new crime control laws.

In 1993, California voters passed a pair of laws over the objections of their progressive politicians. The gun use law took many career criminals off the streets. As a result of that time-honored formula, crimes rates declined. Predictably, California’s politicians are working to blunt the teeth of those laws.

Ah, California.

RAW!!! Arrest Of School Shooter’s Dad Shows Fatal Flaw Of Gun Control Measure, Says CCRKBA

  • (NEEDS EDITING) BELLEVUE, WA – Today’s arrest of Raymond Lee Fryberg, father of Marysville Pilchuck gunman Jaylen Fryberg, on charges of illegally purchasing the pistol used in that shooting demonstrates the fatal flaw of so-called “universal background check” legislation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.

“Apparently,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “a permanent protection order issued against Fryberg back in 2002 never made it into the National Instant Check System (NICS). Penalizing all law-abiding gun owners because a system is flawed does not prevent crime from happening, nor does it keep the wrong people from getting their hands on guns.”

The government alleges that not only did the elder Fryberg provide false information on the Federal Form 4473 when he bought the Beretta pistol his son used in the October shooting, he also allegedly bought four other firearms at various times. It is not known why information about the protection order did not appear in the NICS system, but Fryberg’s status as a disqualified person apparently never showed up during NICS checks. But he apparently knew the protection order was still in effect months before he bought the handgun, and so did the tribal court.

“Instead of spending millions of dollars on initiative campaigns aimed at back-door gun registration,” Gottlieb observed, “Michael Bloomberg and other wealthy anti-gun elitists could better spend their money lobbying Congress to either fix the NICS system or scrap it altogether. Indeed, if billionaire gun prohibitionists really wanted to do something useful with their money, they could donate it to the government to pay for the fixes, including better data entry.

“We won’t forget,” he added, “that Nick Hanauer, the chief proponent of Initiative 594 last year, sarcastically joked on social media after the Marysville Pilchuck tragedy that ‘we need more school shootings’. It was a despicable attempt to exploit the shooting, and it is now painfully clear that the measure he and his elitist friends sold the public would not have prevented what happened.

“Buying elections to pass unenforceable laws that don’t prevent crimes creates a false sense of security that is dishonest to its core,” Gottlieb concluded.

There is some common sense in Oregon. Gun rights advocates have long asked for pre-approval to buy guns.. and conversely, a mark on a drivers license that shows who is not permitted to buy firearms. The Oregon gun owner registration bill was stalled. An amendment proposed by Senator Kim Thatcher would eliminate the onerous background check requirements on private transfers, and replace them with a system whereby only prohibited persons would be identified.

This is how it works. If you are a prohibited person, your driver’s license would include an indicator, just as it does now for corrective lenses or organ donors. Non prohibited persons would have no change on their license. If you wanted to transfer a firearm you would only need to see the back of the recipient’s driver’s license or state ID card. If there is no prohibiting mark, then the transfer is made without a background check. There are no fees, no registration and no paperwork. There will be no record of the transfer and no list of guns or gun owners.

Firearms transfers at dealers would have no changes, except a dealer would have the advantage of knowing beforehand that a person was going to be denied and could save himself the time and expense of running the check.

-There is more news from Oregon. The mandatory background check bill was proposed by state Senator Chuck Riley. Riley won election by 280 votes.. after he accepted $75 thousand dollars from Bloomberg. Now there are plans for a recall effort to remove Senator Riley. Just like Colorado, citizen activists are , reaching out to volunteers, and contacting prospective candidates to take Senator Riley’s vacant seat.

comment-Rob- They turned away 68 citizens who wanted to testify against the bill.

comment – John – But allowed Dan Gross of the Brady Campaign and Gabby Giffords to testify.

Nigerian Massacre (This news should go last)

And finally, this week brought us a sickening object lesson on why arms are necessary in a world where evil thrives. The Islamic extremist group al-Shabab proudly massacred 148 people in a Kenyan. After killing two guards at the gate, the four terrorist were free to roam the school, killing as they pleased. Christian’s were specifically identified for slaughter; Muslims were allowed to go free. Police responded within minutes, but were unfortunately far too late. The murderers were eventually cornered in a school dormitory where, with no more innocents left to kill, they suicided. They left behind chaos and blood-soaked horror.

This atrocity was organized by the same al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists that assaulted Nairobi, Kenya’s high-end . Sixty seven lives were taken in an attack that lasted four days. Many lessons became obvious: No less than recommended an armed citizenry as a way of protecting people from mass shootings. He noted that it was virtually impossible to stop killers from getting weapons, and that you can’t have armed police forces everywhere. He further stated that you have to ask if an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past, with an evolving threat of terrorism?

Unfortunately, Interpol’s recommendations were too easy to for governments to ignore.

Terrorism experts expect that these type of attacks will certainly come to American soil. Al-Shabab boasts that “No amount of precaution or safety measures will be able to guarantee your safety, thwart another attack or prevent another bloodbath.”

The armed citizens of this nation disrespectfully disagree. We arm, we practice, we carry, and we resists our government’s efforts to disarm us in face of these, and many other evils.

Stay safe out there. It’s a dangerous world.

-Rob, you have some personal news you wanted to share.

Rob- I’m getting together with some friends at the NRA convention and I want you to join us. Armed Citizen Saves a Woman Being Carjacked

From Smyrna, Georgia comes an event where an armed citizen saved a woman from death or serious injury. The man ran toward the fracas and fired a shot at a carjacker, likely saving the woman who was on the car’s hood. The shot hit the thief in the shoulder, stopping the car.

Our congratulation to the CCW holder, he acted to preserve a life. But, we have to question the sanity of the woman who jumped on the hood of her car.
Do you think our hero used a Glock? (Smyrna is the headquarters of Glock USA.)

Woman Uses Firearm to Save her Brother
A woman used her firearm to during a 中国体彩官方app invasion at 3:40 AM in the mean streets of Detroit.

Awakened by the scuffle downstairs, the woman grabbed her gun. She fired several times, wounding one of the two attacking her brother. Both assailants ran off. Several minutes later, a 21 year-old appeared at a local hospital, where he is now listed in critical condition. Predictably, the shootee did not mention any 中国体彩官方app invasion, but told police that someone shot him on Chandler Park and he called his cousin to take him to the hospital. Riiiiiight.

Neighbors interviewed about the incident said they would have done the same thing. They also encouraged every Detroit 中国体彩官方appowner to get a concealed carry permit so they can have a gun with them not only in the house, but outside.

Never Bring A Box Cutter to a Gunfight
A Tennessee store owner is after having his throat slashed with a box cutter. The owner of Discount Tobacco and Beer was assaulted by a man with a long criminal history as well as a razor. The unprovoked slashing attack barely missed the owner’s main artery. Desperately injured, he was still able to draw his permitted conceal carry firearm and shoot to stop his attacker. The man was later found dead a short distance away by police.
The store owner is not expected to face any charges.

Never Bring A Brick to a Gunfight
In Harris County, Texas, a turned deadly for the jilted lover. The ex-boyfriend showed up at a woman’s house with a brick to threaten her and her new boyfriend. In that potentially deadly situation, the new boyfriend shot and killed the assailant.

Witnesses said the ex attempted to throw a brick at the boyfriend, prompting the shooting. It gets messy, as the new BFF may have been outside investigating a noise when the shot was fired. The police investigation is ongoing, but at this time it doesn’t appear that the new beau will be charged.

Never Bring A Replica to a Gunfight
A woman and her accomplice were in their attempt to rob two men lured in by promises of a cheap Playstation. The two men met Natasha Brady, 22, but wisely declined her instructions to go behind the house. That’s when Brady’s accomplice appeared with a gun and demanded their possessions. However, one of the buyers was armed, and squared-off at the robber… who dropped his pistol and ran. The pistol was later found to be a replica. Likewise, the Playstation box contained only a brick. Brady was arrested for robbery and her feckless accomplice is still being sought.

Good on the men for exhibiting true gun-sense. In the future, however, they might want to patronize a store where getting robbed is only a figure of speech.

Don’t Torque-off the Old Guy (DTOG) III

Finally, in Oklahoma a seasoned citizen defends his wife and himself when three criminals invade their 中国体彩官方app. As his screaming wife was taken to a back room by a masked intruder holding a gun to her head, another intruder ordered Eddie Gilmore to get on the floor.

Bad move, bad guy.

“I got over between the couch and the coffee table and when I did I went down and put my arm on the coffee table to kind of hide myself and I pulled the drawer open because I had a gun in there.” Old Guy Gilmore came up shooting in every direction he could (his words), hitting two of the crims. The suspects fired back, but neither Eddie nor his wife were hurt. “They could’ve killed her and come right in here and killed me if I hadn’t had a gun.”

The suspects were picked up later, and it seems that they were simply bored and randomly looked for a 中国体彩官方app to rob. It can be a scary thing when criminals are bored. It’s good thing to be able to scare the criminals right back.

Dead-eye Eddie did notice some important things that didn’t happen: “I had some reloads in this one gun and they misfired…next time they won’t misfire.”

Rule Number 1 of a Long Life: Don’t Torque-off the Old Guy.

Listener e-mail discussion

Email #1 from Ken in Phoenix.

Could you guys talk a bit about the Gun Show Loophole on one of your upcoming shows. From what I’ve read, there is indeed such a thing. But every 2A and firearms podcast I listen to, everyone is emphatic that there isn’t. Somehow, the two sides are reading (or interpreting) different things. It can’t be both at the same time, so, would you folks try to clear this up once and for all. Much appreciated.

Ken Silva
Phoenix, AZ

Comment- The gun show loophole is a pejorative term used by anti-rights advocates. Every state and federal law that applies outside a gun show also applies inside a gun show. Dealers are required to use background checks at a gunshow just as they do at their bricks-and-mortar store.. If the state does not require a background check for private party sales, then two individuals can meet at the gun show and conduct a private party sale.. usually outside the gun show. You’ll often see someone carrying a rifle over their back with a flag sticking out of the barrel.. and the flag says “for sale”. In contrast, some states require all firearms sales to be through a licensed dealer.

Some media propagandists claimed that most vendors at the gunshow were operating without federal and state firearms licenses and conducting unregistered sales. That is technically true.. if you count the vendors selling drinks, food, T-shirts, toys, jewelry, knives, rifle scopes, gloves, books, cartridge magazines, ammunition, backpacks, gun bags and gun safes. Most of the gun show isn’t about guns.

Paul- Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention?

Rob- I wrote about The anti-rights lobbyists lied about the bills in the state legislatures. The propagandists phrased the question like this- Should the pimply-faced delinquent who went off to college and got stoned the first time he was away from 中国体彩官方app.. be given a gun to play with at school? That isn’t what the law says. That isn’t what we see concealed carriers do. The article is up at Clash Daily .com and at my blog; Slowfacts.wordpress.com.

John tell us about your blog?

discussing the DC Attorney General’s decision to dismiss their appeal of the Palmer case. I noted that DC will dig in their heels on 2A rights much like the segregationists did in the 1950s and 60s South.

Rob- 20 new doctors and nurses had their first shots with us on Saturday. We paired them up 1 on 1 with volunteer mentors. One of my students had hands so small she could barely reach the trigger on a Ruger mk II .22. Different guns for different people. The volunteers came from the San Diego Chapter of Gun Owners of California. Our monthly first shots events are fully booked for the next four months. I interviewed Dr. John Edeen. He was on Armed American Radio last week, and is Gun Talk with Tom Gresham today.

John – It is hard to believe that the NRA Annual meeting is just two weeks away. I’ve registered for the NRA’s Annual Law Seminar on Friday and am looking forward to hearing speakers including Mas Ayoob, Stephen Halbrook who has been been on the show, and Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit. That is about it for firearms news for me. I’ve been busy with work this week with a 2-day trip to Baltimore. Given Maryland’s anti-self defense gun laws, it was just as well that I never left the hotel.

Paul- Rachel called in, but can’t join us today.

Arizona Vet’s Firearms Confiscated

Imagine losing your Constitutional Rights by nothing more than the word of a feuding neighbor. Rick Bailey, a disabled veteran, is living this in Glendale, Arizona.

For several months Bailey has been involved in a landscaping dispute with his neighbor, Dustin Moss. Things came to a head when Bailey called police to report a strong odor of chemicals coming from his neighbor’s. The next day, Moss went before a judge and claimed that Bailey had threatened to shoot him – sometime in the past. Bailey vehemently denies the charge and there are no prior police complaints.

Despite these very shaky grounds, Judge Baxter issued a protective order. The judge also attached a separate injunction to confiscate all of Bailey’s firearms. The same day, the Glendale police department confiscated Bailey’s lifetime gun collection. Within the collection was a World War 2 era M1 Garand valued at $5,500, and a Winchester 1897 pump shotgun.

The laws that took Bailey’s guns away are the same type of “Gun Sense” laws that anti-rights groups are pushing nationwide. If this trend continues it could be truly dangerous to our rights. A has been set up to assist Mr. Bailey with the legal fees he’ll likely encounter attempting to recover his guns. We wish Mr. Bailey all the best.

(Here’s hoping (against hope) that the Glendale Police Department is taking adequate care of that Garand.)

Rabbi’s Demand: Let Jews Defend Themselves from Terrorism

It’s hard to believe that 70 years after the Holocaust, European Jews are again facing a foe bent on their extermination. Islamic extremists (there, I said it) are conducting targeted attacks on Jewish communities across Europe.

However, things might be different this time.

Rabbi Menachem Margolin, head of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe and the European Jewish Association, is to enable Jews to defend themselves against terrorists. Police forces have been largely unable to stop the specific attacks. Europe’s restrictive laws prevent the law-abiding from owning or carrying firearms for self-defense. Terrorists, who acquire guns on the black market, laugh at such laws. It all sounds too familiar.

America’s gun owners appaud the efforts of European Jews, indeed all Europeans, to arm themselves in face of the rising terror threats.

Never again.

Chicagoland’s First Concealed Carry Anniversary
A year ago, Illinois became the last state in the nation to . In a year, 92,000 residents have received their CCW licenses. Despite all the editorial ink spilled on the street, blood did not flow in the Wild, Wild West of Chicago. In the year. there have only been a couple incidents involving legal gun owners that have created headlines. Most notably, a positive one, where a CCW holder shot and wounded a man firing into a crowd on Chicago’s Far South Side.

Elwood Police Chief Fred Hayes, who previously opposed the law, said he noticed suburbanites with concealed carry licenses seem to be less fearful of crime and more confident in community safety. Law-abiding citizens (are) adjusting their fear level by confidence and knowledge.” Hayes said he stopped opposing the concealed carry law when he realized that the past year has not resulted in the level of violence some anticipated. In his opinion, the past year is a good indicator that the current law works well in Illinois.

However, politicians spring eternal; a number of Chicagoland state legislators contend that a year may not be enough time to tell how effectively it works or whether it will require future changes. Other disagreements about the law’s nuances will likely take center stage, specifically around who should be denied a permit, whether businesses should continue to have to post a “no guns allowed” sign, or whether to expand or shorten the list of more than 25 types of establishments where guns are not yet allowed, such as schools and airports.
Hmm, seems concealed carry is working in Illinois; just like in the other 49 states. Who would’ve thought?

Kansas May Adopt Constitutional Carry
Kansas may become the fifth state to embrace Constitutional Carry after the Legislature gave final approval Wednesday to a bill backed by the NRA. Governor Sam Brownback’s office did not say what he planned to do, but he has signed every major gun-rights measure sent to him since taking office in January 2011.

The Republican-dominated Kansas Legislature has strong gun-rights majorities in both chambers, and Senate Majority Leader Terry Bruce was the bill’s leading sponsor. The NRA joined the Kansas State Rifle Association in pushing for it, while the state chapter of the increasingly irrelevant Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence sought to block it.

Congratulations, Jayhawks!

Gun Debate Heats up in Senate Budget Battle
As the Senate debates the federal government’s 2016 budget, Republicans and gun advocates are that would expand concealed-carry laws and block the Obama administration from issuing what opponents call a “backdoor” ban on guns. “We expect more gun-related showdowns in the next 72 hours than in the next nine months combined,” the Gun Owners of America in a message to supporters asking them to call their senators about these issues.

The recent attempt by the ATF to ban certain types of armor-piercing ammunition used in AR-15 rifles is still fresh in the minds of many Republican lawmakers. Senators James Inhofe and David Vitter are pushing an that would prohibit the ATF from attempting to ban bullets that are primarily used by hunters and sportsmen. Inhofe is also offering other pro-gun amendments prohibiting the Obama administration from establishing a national firearms registry and barring the government from pressuring banks to close gun shops’ bank accounts. Senators Lamar Alexander and Steve Daines are offering an amendment that would stop the Fish and Wildlife Service from cracking down on antique guns containing ivory.

Please contact your Senators in support of these efforts.

California Judge overturns three judge panel in the Peruta case

Judge Sidney Thomas was the dissenting opinion in the three judge panel hearing the case of Peruta versus Gore. Ed Peruta asked for a concealed carry permit in San Diego California. San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore said Peruta did not have a good cause to be issued a permit. The three judge panel sided with Ed Peruta. Judge Thomas disagreed. Late last year Judge Thomas became the chief judge of the ninth circuit. He requested that the full circuit re-hear the case. He ordered that the decision of the three judge panel be ignored. He further decided that the California Attorney General, Kamal Harris could speak for Sheriff Gore.

Judge Thomas was appointed by President Clinton. Thomas coordinates which of the judges on the 9th circuit will hear the case. That means the fix is in, since you determine the judicial outcome by selecting which judges who will hear the case. Alan Gottlieb of the Second Amendment Foundation said quote “We expected the Ninth Circuit to decide to hear our case en banc. I believe that this case will be finally ruled on by the Supreme Court.”

Since judge thomas’s ruling, the Orange county sheriff has stopped processing concealed carry permits.

John- The lawsuit was originally brought in San Diego County. To offer some perspective, both San Diego and Orange County have a larger population than 20 US states. Yeah, Orange county is larger than Iowa.

Rob- And San Diego County is slightly smaller than Connecticut.

Paul- Only Orange county doesn’t get a senator, and 20 states do.

A short history of Concealed Carry gives us a condensed history on concealed carry. Notice how things have changed in the last 30 years.

The number of states with that denied all concealed carry shrank from 16 to 0, though some of those states still have a de facto-ban on civilians carrying firearms.

The number of states with a discretionary “may issue” policy shrank from 25 states down to 9 states.

States that have a “shall issue” policy rose from 8 to 36.

States allowing concealed carry without a permit rose from 1 to 5.

During the same time period, the rates of both total homicides and gun homicides have fallen by about half.

The Quebec minister of public security said the provincial government will create their own firearms registry for rifles. and is not required to give the data to the province of Quebec. The provincial minister of security said quote “The premier has taken steps to put in place a Quebec gun registry with or without the federal gun registry data. There will be a Quebec registry.” close quote. A federal court found their gun registry illegal.

Now Canadian advocates for armed self-defense will have to fight the Quebec government in court.

The Florida House Stands its ground

Some Florida cities on private property. Florida state Representative Darryl Rouson, a Democrat from Saint Petersburg, proposed such a bill. The Florida House Criminal Justice Subcommittee killed the bill citing existing law that makes gun owners liable for any damage or injury they cause. There is a difference between damage and a disgruntled neighbor who complains about hearing shooting next door.

Paul- It doesn’t matter if you are shooting for recreation, for training, or in self-defense; you are responsible for everything that happens until the bullet you fired comes to a stop.

DC told to join the United States

Florida senator Marco Rubio and Ohio representative Jim Jordan to revise the firearms laws in Washington DC. The bills require “shall issue” of concealed-carry permits to residents and visitors who are not criminals. DC residents would be able to purchase firearms in neighboring states. The legislation allows private citizens, companies, and public agencies in the nation’s capital to determine whether they want to allow firearms to be carried on their property. The bill also pre-empts DC re-regulation of firearms. I’m sure the DC city council is shocked that mere citizens would want the freedom to protect themselves.

Paul- Oh, the horror. How will those poor DC politicians run their municipal political campaigns without Bloomberg money?

New Jersey Mayor suggest firearms safety in public schools

Deborah Cope is mayor of Bass River Township, New Jersey. She is president of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. She also owns and shoots handguns. in New Jersey elementary schools. Quote “We talk about drugs, alcohol, sex, texting, bullying in schools.. but firearms safety got pushed off to the side, and we’re not talking about it with kids like we used to.” close quote. Mayor Cope also wants to present her idea to reinstate gun-safety programs in schools during the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. That conference is scheduled for late in April.

Operation Choke Point
In any regulated environment, there’s an obvious temptation for the bureaucrat to make things worse based on their feelings. Ever face a DMV employee that hates you? When that temptation to influence becomes a government mandate, fundamentally wrong things can happen.

The Obama administration’s seeks to restrain businesses they find objectionable. Using bank regulators, they choke off the objectionable’s access to loans, bank accounts, checks, credit card processing, and other necessary financial services. Payday loan firms, casinos, tobacco distributors, porn — and gun firms have all been targeted. These firms are all engaging in legal commerce – and are being punished because they are politically incorrect to this administration. The Obama administration has weaponized the regulatory process, a blatantly illegal abuse of regulatory power.

Operation Choke Point is a clandestine operation. Holder’s Department of Justice has denied Operation Choke Point’s existence — and has promised never do it again. However, many legal businesses have and are feeling the choking grip of this operation.

Mike Schuetz, owner of Hawkins Guns LLC, in Wisconsin, told Fox that he had audio recordings between himself and Heritage Credit Union. The recorded conversation revealed that Schuetz’s recently opened bank account had been closed because Heritage Credit does “not service businesses that deal in guns and ammunition.” Other small business owners like Schuetz are claiming their livelihoods have suffered under Operation Choke Point.

Congressional hearings over the DOJ’s Operation Choke Point were set to begin Tuesday. Schuetz hopes the hearings will put an end to the DOJ program and hold accountable those who put it in place. “It’s a sad day in America when this kind of things happens…” said Schuetz.

Demanding Moms Choke on Kroger
During a March 25 appearance on , Kroger CFO Michael Schlotman said the retail food chain will not comply with the demands of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, especially as those demands touch on changing store policy to disarm open-carry customers in states where openly carrying a gun in Kroger is legal.

“(W)e follow local laws [and] we ask our customers to be respectful to the other people they are shopping with. And we really haven’t had any issues inside of our stores as a result of that.”

By the way, on December 8 that Kroger’s profits rose 21 percent after refusing to ban guns. Mess with us, will you?

A judge defends online ammunition sales

Jessica Ghawi was one of the victims in the Aurora movie theater murders. Jessica’s parents, Sandy and Lonnie Phillips, sued online ammunition sellers saying they did not screen the murderer from buying equipment and ammunition. US District Judge Richard Matsch said no. The companies are protected by the federal . The judge also ruled that the defendants, meaning online sporting goods companies like Lucky Gunner and Sportsman’s Guide, are entitled to an award of reasonable attorney fees and costs.” The Brady campaign paid to bring the lawsuit, so I wonder if it will be the parents money or bloomberg’s money that pays the legal bills.

Comment – John – I just received an order from Sportsman’s Guide that included ammo! I’m also a Lucky Gunner affiliate.

Dr. Lott says the FBI numbers were skewed before the election

Dr John Lott at the Crime Prevention Research Center, said the latest statistics from the FBI contain numbers that are misleading at best and deliberately fudged at worst. Quoting Doctor Lott, “The FBI put out a clearly incorrect set of numbers on public shootings shortly before the November election last year. I have been reading FBI reports for 30 years and I have never seen anything like this.” close quote. The FBI took its numbers from news reports rather from more accurate law enforcement crime data. A shows that if the biases and errors were corrected, the Bureau’s data would show that the annual growth rate for homicides in mass shootings had been cut in half.

A Washington State school board learns its lesson

The Kiona-Benton School Board in Washington State to allow designated school administrators to carry guns on campus. They would provide an extra level of security for students and staff. School Superintendent Wade Haun said, “I think the big takeaways are the fact that our students will be better protected and our staff will be well-trained and we will continue to train other staff members as well in other ways to keep our kids safe.” School officials will take training and the school district will cover the costs. The board had earlier approved paying for firearms training for school administrators.

Last year, school officials in Toppenish, near Yakima, Washington also approved arming staff on campus. Critics say armed staff don’t belong at school, but those same critics ignore the fact that criminals continue to ignore “gun-free zone” signs.

Paul- They call the police because the police have guns. Well.. duh.

Paul- That brings up this weeks Gun Quote- “The theory of the gun-free school zone is that mass murderers won’t bring guns if teachers and parents don’t bring theirs.”

John- That reminds me, the movie Safe Haven comes out on the Sportsman’s Channel on April 1st. Hang on everybody, we’ll be back with our interviews segment.

Dr. David Yamane

Joining us today is Dr. David Yamane who is a sociologist at Wake Forest University. He is a California native and received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. His most recent research has been into David will be teaching a new class this fall at Wake Forest entitled “Sociology of Guns”. Today he’ll talk about his introduction to firearms and how this has led to his research into the gun culture. As an aside, he strings tennis rackets professionally and was named the “Stringer of the Year” for 2014 by Tennis Industry Magazine.

Were firearms a part of your growing up in California? How were you introduced to firearms? How did this lead to your interest in studying the gun culture and especially gun culture 2.0?

How would you define Gun Culture 2.0?

Are there other scholars you respect?

Many approach the study of firearms from an advocacy perspective, either pro or con. Could you tell us how your approach is different?

Your research interest is in studying legal gun ownership and use (as opposed to the the focus on crime, deviance, and social problems that dominants the social scientific literature on guns). Could you talk about that a bit?

How have your colleagues reacted to your research interests in firearms.?

What do you think of the campus carry debate?

Will we see you in Phoenix at GRPC?

Man in a Wheelchair Kills Two 中国体彩官方app Invaders
A wheelchair bound man successfully defend his life after three men broke into his apartment in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Even though he is partially paralyzed and only has use of his hands, Two of his attackers died at the scene, the third escaped with his life.

The resident’s mother said that her son did the right thing, he had to shoot the men. “I’m surprised my son made it out of there.”

Sadly, this is not the first time the man has faced armed intruders. In 2011, a group of 中国体彩官方app invaders shot him seven times while he was still in bed. That attack sentenced him to life in the chair.

A Close Shave in a Philly Barbershop
Talk about a : if it wasn’t for a concealed carrier walking into a barbershop at just the right moment, several adults and children could have died.

Eight to ten people were in a Philadelphia barbershop when Warren Edwards refused to “chill out” and began shooting. A customer who had just walked into the shop pulled his legally carried concealed weapon and shot Edwards several times, at least once in the chest. Edwards died on route to the hospital.

“The person who responded was a legal gun permit carrier,” Philadelphia police department Cpt. Frank Llewellyn said,. “Could have been a lot worse if it wasn’t for this guy who responded and basically saved a lot of people in there,”

The concealed carrier turned himself in at a police precinct. It is unknown if he will face any charges, but it is believed that the shooting was a case of self-defense.

Once again it should be noted: when seconds count – the cops are only minutes away.

Don’t Torque-Off the Old Guy II
In another of our continuing “Don’t Torque-Off the Old Guy” series, a seasoned citizen captures a Cobb County, Georgia bank robber.

The military veteran was in a Wells Fargo bank when he saw a holdup in progress. The unnamed CCW holder ran to his car where he retrieved his pistol. Feeling his oat fiber, he tackled the young punk and held him at gunpoint until the police arrived.

A passerby observed that “I immediately knew by the way the man was standing, his stance, he was in control of the situation.” A nearby resident applauded the old guy for taking charge of the situation. “It’s wonderful that someone is willing to take action and show the bad people out there, you can’t do this and we’re going to stand up for what’s ours.”

It must be noted that no matter how heroic, most self-defense instructors would not recommend that a CCW holder get involved in this type of a situation. There was no immediate threat to life, and things could have gone very bad very quickly. That being said, we certainly applaud this hero, and award him our Old Guy of the Week.

13 Year Old Fights Off a Larger, Stronger Predator

Although this self-defense situation doesn’t involve a firearm, it does show that We are the weapon – the gun is only one of many tools.

A 13 year-old Pontiac, Michigan girl was walking 中国体彩官方app Saturday night from Walgreens when she was attacked by a predator. “Some man yelled at me, he was like, ‘Hey,’” she said. “I turned around and I started speed-walking. And then he ran behind me and pulled me back into the bushes.” The girl said the man was strong; tightly grabbing her arms. “I was scared,” she told the news channel. “He just pulled me into the bushes and kept saying ‘come on.’ I was just fighting back because I was scared.”

“And then I kicked back at him and he loosened up.” She kicked back at him three times – in his groin.

We pause while the male listeners finish wincing.

Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe said the girl did the exact right thing in that situation.“ Pretty good thinking on her part, she did the right thing,”he said. “She screamed and yelled and kicked. He went down and she ran away.”

Now, that’s Girl Power!

Not in my used car lot you don’t

A masked gunman walked into a used car dealership in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The robber held the store employees at gunpoint and demanded cash. What the robber got instead was a from an armed employee. EMTs transported the robber to a nearby hospital where he died. Police have closed the investigation, but have not released the robbers name while they notify the next of kin.
