Rachel: I’m Rachel Malone and on tonights show we’ll talk about self-defense news.

John: I’m John Richardson, and we’ll talk about self-defense news and defensive gun use.

Rachel: John, I already said we have news.

John, Yes, but we have a lot of news, so climb aboard.

Rachel : strap in

Rob: and hang on! Episode 272 of the Polite Society Podcast starts right now.

Show intro music.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Rob- Cleaned all the handguns. JPFO picked up one of my posts about my sheriff, William Gore. That got me a few hundred hits on the website. I went to the first meeting of a new chapter of Gun Owners of California here in San Diego. I tried to set up an interview with a local gun store owner. He’ll come on next Wednesday. I toured a huge new indoor shooting range. Dry practice. I’d like to give a shout out to the podcast . They mentioned our podcast the other day, and I’m a listener to theirs.

Rachel- nada. Just daily life. I’ll be at a shoot this weekend testing out a new course of fire for a rifle marksmanship course, so I’ll report on that next time.

John – I received my new Kydex holster for my SIRT pistol. I’ve been both practicing drawing and dry firing. I’ve also been getting stuff ready for my trip to the Gun Rights Policy Conference. On a very serious note, I’d like our listeners to keep a long-time friend of the show, Bob Mayne, in your thoughts and prayers. that he will be undergoing surgery this Friday to remove a tumor from his brain at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He says he will have friends and family with him but he needs our prayers and support. He hopes to be 中国体彩官方app by Monday.

Seg 2- News

John- The dealing with the state’s gun laws with respect to out-of-state visitors from states where their gun possession would be legal. He said that imprisonment is “neither necessary or appropriate”. Following that directive, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain said, “”In applying the factors set out in the clarification, I determined that the defendant in this case should be offered the opportunity to be admitted into the Atlantic County PTI Program. I have communicated that determination to the court and defense counsel.” This is great news.

Rachel Comment – It goes to show that when heat is properly applied, politicians will get in line.

Rob comment- what were they thinking when they prosecuted Brian Aitken? New Jersey also needs to lighten up on its own citizens.

Rob- Let’s continue with good news. When California police don’t have a crime with which to prosecute honest firearms owners.. they invent a crime. Too often this becomes a case of he said, she said, where the judge believes the police officer despite contradictory evidence. This time was different. Mindy Costa was charged with transporting her firearms illegally in an unlocked case. The police video shows that the case was locked. In other words, the policeman lied. The police then scrambled to find some crime with which to charge Ms Costa so the department could avoid a charge of malicious prosecution.

Torrance, California has a little know local ordinance that prohibited the carrying of firearms throughout the City of Torrance even if the firearms are carried in accordance with California law. Ms Costa was transporting the firearms for self-defense, rather than work, trade, business, sport or recreation as allowed by law. There is an exception if a handgun is carried by a concealed carry holder, but the Torrance police don’t issue carry permits. Ms Costa’s lawyer said she would not accept a plea deal to the misdemeanor charges. In effect, the Torrance regulation is a complete ban on the purchase, possession and use of a gun for self-defense at 中国体彩官方app.

Ms Costa submitted a series of letters and dialog with the City Attorney’s Office challenging the ordinances as a violation of the Second Amendment and as being preempted under California law. Finally, the city attorney agreed. Costa’s lawyer said she would file a lawsuit unless the regulations were rescinded in 60 days.

On August 12 the ordinance to repeal the unlawful sections of their codes were brought up for a second reading as required by law and This happened because one person was willing to stand by her innocence.

John comment- God this sounds like a corrupt southern sheriff.

Rob- it is southern California. But Ms Costa is also from southern California.

comment- For a while there I needed to read the article to tell if it was Torrance, California.. or Newark, New Jersey.

Rachel -The next news article reminds me of the corrupt Garden State of New Jersey, but in fact it is from New York. Dwayne Ferguson is an anti-gun activist. He lobbied for laws that make carrying a firearm on school grounds a felony. He also brought a firearm on school grounds and was arrested. In New Jersey they’d sentence him to a decade in prison. In New York they’d sentence you or me to 4 years. But things are different when you’re politically connected. On Monday, Judge John L. Michalek sentenced Ferguson to 100 hours of community service,

John comment- it is a close race to see which state is the most politically corrupt.

John -Another corrupt Sheriff helped change the laws in Alabama, if only be being a horrible example to others. Aaron Williams was a reserve deputy in Washington County, Alabama. Williams worked for the prior sheriff, William Wheat. Williams had a permit to carry for the last 14 years. That stopped when he supported the old sheriff in an election and the new sheriff took exception. Sheriff Richard Stringer tore down the campaign signs of his opponent, and in some cases, replaced the signs with his own. Then the sheriff refused to give concealed carry licenses to the opponent’s supporters. Sheriff Stringer said, “As hard as you fought me, and as many of my signs as you tore down, son … you crapped in your nest with me. Don’t you stub your toe.”

State Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale credited the recording posted on Youtube with helping to pass a bill he sponsored last year that loosened restrictions on Alabama pistol permits. Now Sheriff Stringer has less discretion to deny carry permits. That wasn’t enough for Aaron Williams. Williams left Washington County and moved to Mississippi.

Rachel comment- power corrupts, and the power to deny the right of self defense is obviously too much temptation for this small Alabama Sheriff.

Rob comment- This reminds me of the corrupt Milwaukee DA that scoured his department trying to find out who exposed his political vendettas. The leaker was a lawyer who had to leave the county after he was discovered and the press harassed his elementary school age children.

Rob-Speaking for corrupt cities like Milwaukee and Chicago.. 36 people were shot last weekend in Chicago including 12 and 16 year old boys.

John comment- how is that gun-control working out for you, Rahm?

Rachel comment- It works for Rahm. It stinks for the rest of the citizens.

Rob-You may not like politics. You may dislike politicians from both parties. That is good for the anti-gun billionaires who want you to sit 中国体彩官方app and drink rather than help a candidate and make phone calls. Billionaire Michael Bloomberg handed out endorsements this week, and Among the candidates receiving backing are 32 candidates for state offices, 61 vying for House seats and 17 running for the U.S. Senate.

In the Senate, the group is endorsing vulnerable incumbent Democratic Senators like Kay Hagan (N.C.), Mark Udall (Colo.) and Mary Landrieu (La.), as well as Rep. Bruce Braley (D-Iowa). Braley is battling for the seat to be vacated by retiring Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa).

Rachel comment- Vote check. Tell me you’re registered to vote.

John comment – And Bloomberg isn’t the only one supporting these anti-gun incumbents with money. So are Americans for Responsible Solutions who have made them priority campaigns.

Rachel- And speaking of Bloomberg and his Moms Demanding Action, . In addition to being anti-gun, she seems to be ignorant of history as well. On Twitter yesterday, she was engaging in a war of words with pro-gun activists. One person noted a quote from Nazi propaganda minister Josef Goebbels saying “If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear.” Ms. Martin responded “Mr. Goebbels’ words are wise words to live by.”

John Comment – you just can’t make stuff like this up!

John- The National Shooting Sports Foundation did its research and . They presented their report at a public hearing of the Wildlife Resource Committee of the California Fish and Game Commission. Non-lead ammunition is not available for about half of hunting calibers, and the report found the California ban will cause severe shortages nationwide. California’s ban will at least triple the price of ammunition, driving more than one-third of the state’s hunters to hunt less or stop hunting completely. The expected loss of more than 50,000 hunters in California will cause a loss of millions of dollars in salaries and in tax revenue.

Rob comment- votes have consequences.

Rachel comment- there is a similar lead-ban proposed in Oregon last week. Oregon gun owners, if you snooze you’ll lose.

Rob-Yes votes have consequences, but different states are different. Let me remind you that the democrat controlled legislature in Colorado passed anti-gun bills last year and also raised taxes. Democrat Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed them into law. Colorado citizens then recalled two state senators, including the democrat senate majority leader, John Morse. Those anti- gun votes continue to have consequences. Michael Bloomberg said thier anti-gun vote would guarantee the politicians a wave election. And it might.. sort of. Colorado Republican Bob Beauprez(BOO-PRAY) leads incumbent Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper by Representative Beauprez among likely voters, 50 percent to 40 percent. The two candidates are essentially even among female voters, while Mr. Beauprez has a 20-point lead among male voters at 54 percent to 34 percent. The Republican challenger also leads the incumbent by 13 points, 50 percent to 37 percent, among independent voters. The poll has an error of plus or minus 2.8 percent.

Rachel comment- Senor Hickenlooper, this wave election.. it does not mean what you think it means.

Rachel -Since we’re talking about polls, a recent poll in Utah had some encouraging results. Sixty-four percent of Utahns are in support of teachers carrying concealed weapons in school. The poll was . As you’d expect, appointed police chiefs in Utah took offense. Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank agrees with the 33 percent polled who said kindergarten through 12 grade teachers should not carry concealed weapons in the classroom. The poll surveyed 395 Utahns representing each county in Utah. Participants were asked if they thought teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons in the classroom, and if they were aware that Utah law allows them to do so without having to tell parents or school administration. Four out of five thought a concealed weapon in the classroom made schools safer.

Hang on everybody, we’ll be right back after this

John- Legislation introduced Wednesday in the House of Representatives would dissolve the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Representative Jim Sensenbrenner from Wisconsin introduced the bill. . Sensenbrenner said “The ATF is a largely duplicative, scandal-ridden agency that lacks a clear mission. It is plagued by backlogs, funding gaps, hiring challenges and a lack of leadership. For decades it has been branded by high profile failures.” Gun owners know that one of the notorious ATF failures was Operation Fast and Furious that walked thousands of firearms into the hands of the Mexican drug cartels.

Rob comment- the bill won’t pass the Senate, but I like it anyway.

John – comment – I have to disagree. It is better to keep firearms regulation under an inept agency which gets no respect than put it on the FBI who gets a pass most of the time even when they kill a mother with a child in her arms as at Ruby Ridge.

Rachel -All firearms bills are not equal, because some can be misused. This is an election year, so many politicians are trying to be noticed. They propose bills that pretend to be hard on crime. The real question is whether the law will stop violent crime or simply turn gun owners into convicted felons. Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed intends to introduce a bill setting a ten year minimum penalty This is also a trap for perfectly innocent people going about their daily lives. The question for Missouri gun owners is if Senator Nasheed’s bill is the usual anti- gun catch all bill that criminalizes most lawful gun uses. I hope our listeners will keep us informed.

Rob -From the same people who brought you TSA and want to lose your health care information.. . The system was down for two hours on Friday, and had been down eight times earlier in the week. The system started experiencing problems when the FBI implemented the Next Generation Identification system. This new system merges facial features, scans irises, and reads palm and fingerprints to identify criminals. All this is to replace the single Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System. The outages affected both NICS Contracted Call Centers and NICS E-Check.

Rachel comment- I’m sorry, please call back later. We’re experiencing technical difficulties and your rights are unavailable at this time.

John -Denying rights in Washington leads us to this next story from the District of Columbia city council. A federal district judge said the city must allow concealed carry for district residents and for visitors. The District asked to indefinitely postpone implementing the judges ruling. It isn’t surprising, but the judge rejected the request. The judge went further. District Court Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. . that would only grant the right to carry arms to a small number of individuals. DC citizens would first have to prove they had a “good reason” to carry a firearm. The bill’s sponsor Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said from now.

Rob comment- in other words, the DC city council adopted New Jersey legislation.

John comment- Looks like it. We’ll see if that satisfies Judge Scullin.

Rob comment- I read some of their speeches justifying more regulation and I had to laugh. They cite example of example where their gun control regulations completely failed.. And then they say that is the reason they need more of the same.

comment- insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Rachel -Speaking of New Jersey.. where human rights go to die. Permits to carry a handgun would now cost $50, up from $20. Appealing a denial of a permit to buy a handgun, which currently does not have a fee, would now cost $50,

Rachel Last month, we reported on the that would allow the sale of alcohol at gun shows but also potentially end gun shows as we know them with stiff new regulations. At the public hearing, TABC members heard testimony from a roomful of gun owners and gun groups who opposed the new rule as it was proposed. Yesterday, TABC voted to withdraw the proposed rules changes. It seems that the only people disappointed will be those with the Dallas Safari Club – the ones who originally requested this rule.

Rob Comment- Sometimes, having enough money DOESN’T get you want you want.

John -Talk about the agenda at the GRPC

the conference starts this Friday, and it is free. Registration opens at 7pm, and then they have a free reception with a cash bar. Here are some of the speaker’s I’m looking forward to hear, and to talk with during the breaks.

Jeff Knox, Larry Pratt, Stephen Halbrook, Philip Van Cleave, Scott Bach, Jim Wallace, Andrew Rothman, Tom Gresham, Dan Schmutter, David Jensen, David Kopel, John Fund, George Owens, John Lott, Massad Ayoob, John Edeen, Chris Bird, Gene Hoffman, Alan Korwin, Robert Young, Timothy Wheeler, Tim Schmidt, Charles Heller, David Codrea,

Rob comment- Anthony Colandro and John Pierce will be there too.

John comment- what about Emily Miller, Bob Owens, Kathy Jackson and Fredy Reil?

Rachel Gun Quotes- If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves. – Winston Churchill

Segment 3 Interviews

Segment 4 DGUs

John -It’s been a while since we’ve reported on a DGU from Detroit. when he caught two men trying to break into his storage building. After one of the men acted like he had a gun, the 中国体彩官方appowner shot him in the chest with a shotgun. The burglar is reported in stable condition. Meanwhile, police picked up the other man as he tried to flee. Police say the 中国体彩官方appowner did the right thing and had a right to protect himself. They will, however, leave the final decision to the prosecutor’s office.

Rob – A 中国体彩官方appowner in Van Nuys, California found an intruder in his guest house at 11 pm. The 中国体彩官方appowner and the intruder fought after the intruder threatened to kill the 中国体彩官方appowner. The intruder hit the 中国体彩官方appowner with a glass measuring cup and followed the 中国体彩官方appowner towards the main house. The 中国体彩官方appowner grabbed his firearm. The intruder threatened to kill the 中国体彩官方appowner and , 25 year old Grachia Nalbandyan, in the hip. Nalbandyan then tried to steal a car to escape. He has an extensive criminal record and is on federal probation for possession of a firearm. Nalbandyan was denied bail because the break-in was a violation of his probation.

Rachel -Burt’s Meat Market has been on Lyons Avenue in Houston, TX for more than 60 years. The manager said in all that time they’ve never been robbed and he’s never had to touch the gun he keeps in the store until last night. A thief walked into the store and pointed his gun at the teenage clerk’s face. The store manager saw the gunman from the back room. The robber stumbled out of the door and was able to run away, as the search for the robber continues. The manager said “I looked out a window and all I could see was his hand with a pistol. I didn’t know what to do. (it was) just spur of the moment. I just did what I had to do. Everything happened and I did it on instinct. I was just worried about everyone else in here.”

John -Dog attacks can be really scary. when a roaming pitbull attacked his 10-year old German Shepherd service dog as they walked to a store. The man, after kicking the pitbull and hitting it on the muzzle with his pistol, was forced to shoot the pitbull in the side to stop the attack. The service dog’s vest saved him from serious wounds. The pitbull was taken to an emergency vet hospital. Police say the man is not likely to face any charges for shooting the pitbull.

Rob- and lived to tell about it. After one of the three masked robbers shot him in the leg and hip, he returned fire killing two of the three attackers. 21 year old Ronny Lawson and 23 year old Antonio Gracia were both pronounced dead at local hospitals. The third robber is still on the loose. Det. Capt. Dave Davis said that Lawson and Gracia has long criminal records and they are now looking to see if they were involved in other armed robberies in the area. The clerk who was shot is recovering from his wounds and a second clerk in the store at the time was unharmed. An interesting sidebar to this story is that the clerk that was shot was legally open carrying his pistol at the time of the attempted robbery.

Rachel – A thief had been burglarizing a number of condominiums in Palatine, Illinois. A condo-owner came 中国体彩官方app late Thursday morning and found Noah Perlman in her bedroom. Perlman was armed with a hammer and large screwdriver. The thief was charged with residential burglary, felony possession of stolen property valued at over $10,000, forgery of a stolen check, and possession of a controlled substance.

Rob comment- Do you really have time to get a gun from a safe AFTER you arrive 中国体彩官方app and find an intruder?

Rachel- comment- Gun check. Where is your gun? I have mine right here.

Rob- John, did you mention that you have a Ruger LCR? I noticed that the LCR is now available for 9mm with moon clips.

John – I have the original Ruger LCR in .38 Special +P. I’d love to have the new LCR in 9mm. Moon clips will make reloads really quick.

John- I just renewed my Curios and Relics FFL. What was interesting about that was a question on the renewal application. . If yes, list websites from which you conduct your internet business. I’m wondering if they was a sop to the gun prohibitionists who have been making sales of firearms using the internet a cause celebe. As I said, why this question and why now?

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Paul- Didn’t get the show that was supposed to go out on Wednesday out on time. It released just this morning. Went shopping for a new handgun for my beautiful blushing bride Susan. She decided on the Glock 23. The store that we support with our business didn’t have one in stock so we ordered it and it should be in late this week, just about the time that GRPC starts.

Got a new Concealment Solutions holster. LOVE the Sidewinder Pro. I never thought that I would like any holster better than the Black Mamba CE however Jason outdid himself with this one. Just like the Black Mamba, this is a hybrid holster, the Sidewinder pro is a outside the waistband hybrid holster. That means that it is both leather and kydex. It also has a thumb break retention strap. I haven’t totally retired the black mamba, however I wore the new sidewinder all this week while I was on the road and I absolutely am in love with this holster. The only negative that I can find is that I have to get used to adjusting my belt to a tighter hole, however that does have the added benefit of making it look like I lost a little bit of weight!

I also have a tiny bit of a rant, if you have an NRA, SAF, GOA, S&W, Glock or other sticker on your back window of your car or pickup PLEASE drive courteously. I don’t have one on my pickup for theft deterrent reasons, but if you have one and you are driving like an idiot you are giving us all a bad name.

John – I couldn’t agree more with Paul on this. I only have my NRA Life Member sticker on my car and you have to look to see it. As for gun stuff, I had planned to take my new rifle to the range and sight it in. I didn’t get to the range but I did take the rifle apart to learn more about it. Found out it assembled on a FN Mauser action from a 1951 Belgian Navy rifle with a barrel made in Pennsylvania. The gunsmith who crafted this rifle also glass bedded the stock.

Rachel- I haven’t been doing much with politics and guns the past few days, beyond working on raising a responsible citizen to join the coming generation of polite society. I really enjoyed his team’s football game Friday – not only because we won soundly, but also because of the great sportsmanship Jordan’s team showed. They played with passion and heart, but every time after they routed the other team during a play, as soon as it was over, they were there giving their opponents a helping hand. That speaks well of becoming a great citizen.

Gary – new products available to order – including ammo.

Paul-The state of Hawaii denied firearms permits to legal permanent residents because they were not yet citizens. That practice was appealed and found unconstitutional. If the state has any concern justifying the regulation of firearms, the exclusion of legal non-citizens is not narrowly tailored to meet that concern. The case said is was permissible to deny firearms ownership to illegal residents. The case is sure to be appealed.

Rachel- Legal private firearms ownership is virtually non-existent in the People’s Republic of China中国体彩官方app. However, for 2,200 Yuan (about $320 US) you can get a black market Type 64 pistol with silencer and 5 cartridges. It should go without saying that Chinese gun laws are very strict. However, .

John – . On Thursday, they voted to approve a resolution that would allow students and others who have concealed handgun permits to carry their guns on the Waco campus. Unsurprisingly, school spokeswoman Lori Fogleman tells the Waco Tribune-Herald that Baylor officials believe allowing the guns would create security challenges. Texas law allows college students with concealed carry licenses to have guns in a locked compartment in their car on campus. Any changes would have to be approved by the University’s Board of Regents.

Paul – is so desperate for publicity that they held a vigil on Friday evening for a convicted felon killed in a shootout with another man. Nigel Scarlett had been previously convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and was known to be in the drug trade. According to the lawyer for the man who shot Scarlett, the man had no criminal record and shot Scarlett in self-defense after being threatened by him. He suspected Scarlett was behind the 中国体彩官方app invasion that left his cousin and her boyfriend dead.

Comment – They picked a real winner there.

Comment – Sure would have been nice if they cared as much about honest folks threatened by the likes of Scarlett and others.

Rachel – are starting to attract the attention of the New Jersey mainstream media. My9NJ in their Chasing New Jersey segment brought attention to these billboards and had an interview with both Frank and NJ State Sen. Jeff Van Drew. Van Drew, a Democrat, is sponsoring a bill that would give judges the same discretion that Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain has. If you watch the whole episode, you can tell the news staff is sympathetic to Shaneen Allen.

John – . The event is being held in Philadelphia on October 11th and 12. As the sponsors say, this event is to help support a single mom fighting to keep from being separated from her children over a honest mistake. If you are in the area, we’d urge you to attend.

Paul – case saying, “”This is a case, where a woman with no criminal record, should not go to jail.” He acknowledges that she made a serious mistake but thinks the charge should have been something like disorderly conduct. He noted that Ms. Allen would have had no problems in at least 30 other states. Bramnick also endorsed legislation nicknamed Shaneen’s Law that would lessen the penalties faced by legal concealed carry permit holders who get ensnared in NJ’s laws. The proposed law would mandate pre-trial intervention instead of a minimum of 3 1/2 years in prison.

Rachel – – legislation to prohibit the federal government from requiring race or ethnicity to be disclosed in connection with the purchase of a firearm. The ATF changed Form 4473 in 2012 to require the disclosure of race and ethnicity citing a 20-year old OMB mandate. As Rep. Black notes, failure of the purchasers to check the appropriate box can result in the ATF shutting down a dealer’s business for incomplete forms.

John -A U.S. Army veteran who never fired a shot while serving in Afghanistan found himself exchanging gunfire earlier this week. 27 year old Shaun Cooper and his family were at 中国体彩官方app. A teenager knocked on the door, and then began shooting into the house. Cooper grabbed his own firearm. The teen saw Cooper through a window, and fired at him. The teenager is in stable condition at a local hospital. Las Vegas Police believe the teen was attacking the family after arguing with Cooper’s 14 year old brother.

Rachel -A man posted on Craigslist that he had a rifle for sale. Three men came to look at it. They examined the rifle then turned it around and pointed it at the seller. They then tried to rob him of his valuables. and told the men to lie on the ground because he knew his handgun was loaded and he knew the rifle he’d handed them wasn’t. The seller then grabbed his rifle and ran away to call police. The three men were arrested and booked into jail in Hanover County, North Carolina.

Paul – Our listeners understand that the right to keep and bear arms is about more than just firearms. It includes knives and swords and other implements of defense such as spears. And it was a short spear that he used to protect himself against a 中国体彩官方app invader in Wichita Falls, Texas on Wednesday night. The 中国体彩官方app invader, Thomas McGowan, was lucky to escape with just cuts to his hands and shoulder. As Mr. Wilson said, “I am a Christian man and I don’t want to take life, however I want to make sure that he (McGowan) understands that his life was mine to take. I let him have it.” Police found McGowan a few blocks away from Wilson’s house. After taking him to the hospital to be treated for his wounds, McGowan was charged with criminal trespass, DUI, and evading police with an automobile.

John – Thursday night got more than he bargained for after the trucker pulled out his firearm and used it to protect himself. Joshua McCann was in San Antonio to pick up a motorcycle and then deliver it to Michigan. The robber approached McCann saying he was a cop. When McCann asked to see his badge, the robber said he was going to steal McCann’s truck. That’s when McCann pulled his firearm and shot the robber three times killing him. Police confirmed McCann’s story with bystanders and employees of the motorcycle shop.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

John – I really haven’t done anything gun related since last week between visiting my step-daughter who is “with child” and work. I do hope to get out this Saturday to sight in some rifles.

Rob- I went to a new range nearby that opened a few weeks ago. I’m trying to get a tour so I can review them.

Rachel- I took advantage of a break in between students to run out to the range and shoot my newly set-up AR. I knew I was gonna love it, I just had no idea it was going to be THAT much fun. It was.

LOOK FOR NEWS OF NEW JERSEY BILLBOARDS “Free Shaneen From Unfair Prosecution.”

John -You are the first responders. That is hardly news to our listeners, but it is wonderfully refreshing to hear it from the county coroner in Winston County, Mississippi. Coroner Scott Gregory is fed up with the rash of 中国体彩官方app and car burglaries in the Louisville, Mississippi area. “sit down before you read this. I’m not encouraging anyone to go on a killing spree. If more folks would handle their own business, I think we would stop getting these calls of houses being broken into. I say shoot the idiots and call the coroner!” 40 year old Scott Gregory isn’t your average coroner. He’s has been a radio host for 20 years and how hosts a morning show on a classic rock station. He was a fireman and funeral 中国体彩官方app worker and was elected coroner in 2003.

Rob – Our listeners are also the first responders to defend our rights. We received a message from the Minnesota gun owners political action committee. Anti-self-defense activist Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly have been spreading their anti-gun money around the Minnesota election. Giffords and Kelly spent more than $130,000 on a direct mail campaign supporting anti-gun politicians in Minnesota.

We will lose our right of self-defense if we sit back and do nothing. Sending 15 dollars a year to the NRA is not enough. Are you registered to vote? Do you support and volunteer your time to candidates who defend your human rights? The election season is here.

Rachel – Here is more on politics. We reported a month ago when Washington DC lost a court decision. The court told them to allow concealed carry for residents and visitors. Mayor Vincent C. Gray, D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and council member Tommy Wells will We know the city council will put barriers in the way of concealed carriers. Preliminary reports show the city will adopt a restrictive “demonstrated need” approach to concealed carry. This is modeled after the laws of Hawaii, New Jersey, Maryland and Massachusetts.

DC residents would have to complete the onerous DC firearms permit process as well as additional safety and training requirements. City officials say the bill will meet the letter of the law since they will “provide a means for those responsible and suitable firearms owners who can show they have a legitimate need for it to obtain a permit to carry a weapon in public in a concealed manner.” The city’s police chief would have the authority to deny concealed-carry permits to those who don’t meet the standards. Permit holders would also be barred from carrying guns in locations including government buildings, public transportation, bars and restaurants, stadiums and places where public officials need to be protected.

John – We have sore news on Panera Cafe. Panera came out with an anti-gun stand last week when they “requested” that patrons leave their guns at 中国体彩官方app. You and I resent the request to be disarmed victims. We are not alone. By a ten-to-one ratio, respondents said this decision by Panera Bread Cafes made them think worse of Panera. Only 9 percent approved the decision. THAT is news you won’t hear on NBC or in a press release from a Bloomberg astroturf group.

rob – Kochanski’s Concertina Beer Hall was robbed a year ago. Three men walked into the bar and staged a robbery. Two of them were armed. The bar owner shot two of them and killed one of the robbers before the thieves ran away. 100 people celebrated the event this year at Kochanski’s by

Rachel comment- I read the old article about the robbery and self-defense shooting and there were hundreds of comments in support.

John comment- this really is a neighborhood bar. This is the second concealed carry class they had in the bar. They had the first class nine days after the shooting last year.

Rachel- Voters in Alabama will designed to protect their right to bear arms for self-defense. The amendment would preserve their legal rights even if the Second Amendment of the US Constitution were overturned or limited by federal judges. If federal courts said that sheriffs could deny the right to bear arms, then the Alabama constitution would limit the right of state officials to infringe the right to legally bear arms.

John – Gun Quotes

The show used to be called politics and guns, and we are a few weeks away from the next election. Our quote is “If your answer to every failure of government is MORE government, then you are like an alcoholic trying to drink yourself sober,” said Will Spencer

Hang on everybody, we’ll be back after this

Segment 3 Interviews

John Pierce- Washington initiative 594. Assault weapons bans have failed. Assault weapons were never a problem. Gun control advocates now want to impose “universal background checks”. Background checks are a way to register firearms. This also requires a background check for any “transfer”. 594 increases the waiting period from 5 days to 10 days for all handguns. A SBR requires a transfer. They want to make firearms ownership too cumbersome to be practical. Every firearm in the state requires registration. This law does not read like the rest of Washington legislation. It looks like this law was copied from New York legislation.

-DC proposes more regulation for concealed carry. We have a statement of intent from the DC city council. They want a “may issue” system based on an immediate need. You need prior police reports to justify your future need. The need requirement was approved by the 4th circuit court. Reciprocity would depend on demonstrated need as well.

Segment 4 DGUs

Rachel- Stupid runs in this family. Three men cased a Houston convenience store. One came back wearing a mask and waving a shotgun at the owner and his family. That is when 20-year-old The thief fired back while Seth yelled at the thief to drop his weapon. Seth finally shot him again and killed him. Paramedics removed the thief’s mask and the store employees recognized the thief. The thief’s brother came to the store the next day and threatened to murder the family. The store had been robbed several times before.

Rob Comment- I hope the Houston police put the fear of death into the thiefs family.

John – Comment- it won’t be long until the dead robber’s family claim he was a good person and was turning his life around.

Rob – 60 year old Todd Taylor went to his estranged wife’s 中国体彩官方app in Swatara, Pennsylvania. He fired several times at her 中国体彩官方app with his shotgun. He walked inside and shot through doors, wounding people barricaded inside. . The nephew then disarmed Taylor and waited for police to arrive. County prosecutors will not file charges.

John?- An employee for an armored car company walked up to a bank in Lakewood, Washington. He noticed a man wearing an obvious disguise standing outside the bank. Instead of entering the bank, he contacted another armored car employee inside. As the armored car guard approached from inside the bank, the robber drew his weapon and fired. The robber was hit in the head and the thigh, but managed to limp to a getaway car. The criminal was later dumped at a near by hospital and rushed into surgery. Police are looking for the female driver of the getaway car.

As I said, that is $6 plus dollars that won’t be going to their anti-gun cause.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Rachel- I visited with Texas GOP Chairman Steve Munisteri at a local Republican club meeting last week and reminded him about the resolution we passed at the State Convention in June to prioritize gun legislation. Hopefully he will encourage the State Republican Executive committee to take up that issue. However, it looks like we’re going to have to wait until the December meeting for that; I attended the quarterly SREC meeting yesterday and, unfortunately, gun right legislation was nowhere on their radar.

Sometimes political activism involves high-energy, fast-action, heavily-involved intense work. This weekend was quite the opposite. On the surface, nothing was accomplished for gun rights or liberty. It was the slow, behind-the-scenes work of meeting people in positions of authority and power, networking, holding them accountable, letting them know we WILL be back, and being supportive of those who have supported us in the past. Our time is all limited, and political activism can be discouraging; I believe we must each pick what we feel is the most valuable way to use our time. For me, this past weekend, that was the SREC meeting, and I’m glad I went.

Rob- Steel shoot with two new shooters. The other three friends that were supposed to join me called in sick. I chose the slow and sure approach and had one miss out of 30 targets. That was good enough to win a pin.

Paul – Had Monday and Tuesday off for truck repairs and since I want to go to GRPC I worked Saturday. That means that we record this one on Sunday. I did get some exciting gun related stuff done this week though. I secured the range for 2 REALLY cool weekends next year. We have already released that Bob Mayne and Ben Branam are coming up to do their Beyond Concealed Carry class in May, and Just this week we finalised plans for Kathy Jackson to come back to Sioux Falls next August to to another Cornered Cat co-ed class! I have one more that I am working on that I am SUPER excited about that just isn’t ready to talk about yet. I REALLY wish that I could because it is super cool, but stay tuned I hope to be able to give out details in the near future.

Had a bit of a scare when I got to SF last night. I was backing my truck into a spot at a receiver where we do drop trailer loads. There wasn’t supposed to be anyone there, and as I drove around the building there wasn’t. As I finished my back a SUV pulls around to the back of the building (where I am backing in) and has it’s bright lights shining right at my truck. (when I back I have the driver’s side window rolled all the way down and at some points in the back I am actually sticking my head out of the window as I look back) I had no night vision now, and all I could see was these bright headlights pointing at me. I stopped the truck, set the breaks, rolled the window up and grabbed my phone. After a few minutes the SUV started rolling again and when he turned his headlights away from me I could see that it was the security patrol. Just a gentle reminder, if you are around a truck that is backing at night, even your low beams can hurt the drivers eyes if you are pointing them at the truck as he is backing up. High beams will mostly blind him and really get him paranoid.

Rachel- You won’t believe it. I can’t believe it actually happened….but it’s true, I finally got those parts put on my gun, thanks to a great friend’s help. My AR now has a low-profile gas block, free-float handguard, BattleComp compensator, EOTech, and a couple of Magpul add-ons. Now I really can’t wait to go out and shoot the thing.

John – Since the weekend, it has been work, work, work. I did get time this afternoon to drop into my local surplus store and now have a great first aid kit. All I need to make it a blowout kit is a chest seal.

Rob- I had dry practice and a group training session. I’ll take a group to their first steel shoot this Saturday. I’m already excited that the Gun Rights Policy Conference is two weeks away. I’ve already had a friend say he can’t go due to financial problems.

Rachel- Arizona is a gun friendly state. Unfortunately this is the political season and there is a gun grabber in every crowd.. even in the Arizona legislature. Democratic Representative Victoria Steele plans to , including at a gun range. There is never a shortage of politicians who want to limit your access to firearms. Let me apologize to our democrat listeners. I know these politicians don’t speak for you.

John Comment- So kids would be confined to shooting crew served weapons that sit on a tripod? That doesn’t make sense.

John – We reported that a California District Court judge found aspects of the 10 day waiting period unconstitutional. A similar case has been filed in Georgia. The organization The suit names Sheriff Richard Roundtree as a defendant and is seeking the county’s ordinance on selling used weapons be overturned. The county ordinance places a mandatory 10-day hold on used firearms before a dealer can resell them. The gun rights group maintains this violates Georgia’s preemption law that prohibits counties and cities from regulating the sale of firearms. 10 days might once have been a reasonable time to report and detect a stolen firearm. Now it takes seconds with electronic communications.

Rachel Comment- I hope the county pays up.

Rob – Here is a city that is getting an education in human rights. The city spends money on parades and public events. It spends money on security provided by city employees. The city spends taxpayer money on sanitation services provided by city employees for these special events. The city sets up public address systems. So there you are as a member of the public at.. say the fourth of July Celebration in a city park.. and the city says you have to leave your right of free speech at 中国体彩官方app. The Idaho constitution protects the first amendment for speech and assembly. The Idaho constitution also protects the right to bear arms in public. That is why. Fortunately Coeur d’Alene City Councilman Steve Adams has made Coeur d’Alene’s local ordinance – banning all weapons at parades and public assemblies – an issue since March of this year. Councilman Adams again asked the council to allow people attending a local parade or assembly to carry firearms.

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance asks firearms owners to attend the city council meetings in Emmett, Fruitland, Lewiston and Mountain 中国体彩官方app as well.

John Comment- we asked you nicely, and since that didn’t work, here is a lawsuit you get to explain to the voters.

rachel – We’ve heard anti- gun groups advocate making a panicked phone call to the police every time they see a firearm in public. That may now land someone in jail for lying to the police. 21 year old John Crawford called police and said a man was waving a rifle around inside a Wal-Mart store. Crawford said the man was pointing the rifle at children and threatening them. Crawford said the gunman had shot people and was reloading to shoot again. Police arrived and shot the gunman.

Video records indicate the shopper was carrying a pellet rifle he was buying at Wal-Mart. The shopper was talking with his girlfriend at the time and was in a calm state of mind. Now the witness, John Crawford is changing his story and says the shopper was never a danger to anyone. Before he was shot, the shopper told the police the firearm was not real. Investigation showed the air-rifle was unloaded and the shopper did not have any pellets for it. All of this was captured on security video. All of Crawford’s statements are recorded on the 911 call. The investigation brings Crawford’s actions as well as the actions of local police into question. Local police. A grand jury convenes on September 22.

john – Turnabout is fair play, and also funny. The corporate management of Panera Bread Cafes asked gun owners to avoid their restaurant while carrying. In response, a shooting range posted a sign asking patrons not to bring their full carb loaded automatically glycemic Panera bread into their range.

Rachel Comment- works for me. I can avoid Panera.

Rob Comment- I remember Panera Bread. An Omaha, Nebraska Panera Bread store was robbed and the

Rachel comment- Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal made a public statement supporting Panera’s no gun request, Quote “Another company does the right thing. Panera Bread asks customers to leave guns at 中国体彩官方app.”

John – Comment – that would be the same Sen. Blumenthal that lied about his service in Vietnam.

rob – Here is another case of turnabout. This time the police are claiming that their ignorance of the law justifies a false arrest. We told you about the Vice Principal at a Bakersfield junior high who was arrested for bringing a firearm on campus. The police forgot to check that the Vice Principal had a concealed carry license when he brought his licensed firearm with him in his backpack on campus.

Rachel- Comment- The cops are saying the law is too complicated to understand?

Rob- Comment- Yep, that is their defense.

John- Comment- These are the same cops always say “tell it to the judge”. The vice principal will do exactly that, and the cops should lose big time.

Rob- Comment- I wish I were on that jury.

rachel – There appears to be a double standard for teacher’s misconduct in California. In the previous example, the teacher did not break the law, but was put on administrative leave. Here is an example of a teacher threatening students with Consider what your sheriff would do if you said things like California teacher Krista Hodges. Quote, “I already wanna stab some kids. Is that bad? So happy to be done with school for ten days, but especially to be away from the ones who truly try my patience and make my trigger finger itchy.” I wonder why the teachers union protected this teacher but not the vice principal?

Rob- Comment- They were blinded by their anti-gun ideology.

John- comment- you or I would be in jail if we said thing like that online.

john – The California legislature passed bills requiring that air-rifles and toy guns have barrels with a bright orange muzzle. That bill has not been signed into law, but . The dangerously naive thinking of the proposed law is children are at risk once criminals paint their firearms to look like toys.

Rachel- comment- Politicians have never stopped grabbing guns simply because their laws don’t work.

rob – Hours ago, the The pre-emption bill was strongly opposed by advocates of local firearms regulation like Kansas City Mayor Sly James, Senate Minority Leader Democrat Jolie Justus, and Saint Louis Mayor Democrat Francis Slay. The vote in the senate was 23 to 8, and the bill is expected to easily pass in the state assembly. A carry permit in Missouri already allows the licensee to carry concealed or open. This bill also reduces the age requirement for a conceal carry permit to 19 from 21 and allows specially trained teachers to carry concealed guns in public schools.

rachel – New York City is buying This reduces police response time after shots are fired on the street. The system only covers a fraction of the five boroughs. The city hopes to have the system operating by early 2015. The police commissioner and mayor said the system could help police reduce the rising number of public shootings.

John- Comment- These are the same city officials who disarm the citizens and make them helpless.

Rachel- comment- Yep, no concealed carry.

Rob- comment- not even a pocket knife. New York City is officially a weapons free area.

Rachel- comment- their gun-free zone is broken.

john – Now this is a gun buyback I can support. . The police offered gift certificates and tickets to a minor league hockey team. Ohio Carry offered cash. Quote “We saved about 100 guns. Anything worth saving was saved. I would say less than 10 guns of actual value made it through us to get turned in to police. If the guns weren’t worth anything, we directed them over to the police to at least get something for them. And we did encounter a couple with scratched off serial numbers that we immediately directed to the police.”

Rob- comment- Every gun that we keep guns from police buy-backs, a gun grabber sheds a tear.

John – comment – It also goes to show criminals can use gun buybacks to ditch hot guns anonymously.

rob – It worked in California, so now they gun-grabbers are trying it in Oregon. is scheduled for September 16. The Oregon House Interim Committee On Agriculture and Natural Resources will hold an “informational meeting” on lead ammo legislation. Governor Kitzhaber behind the lead ammo ban. It’s unclear if this legislation will start as a ban on lead ammo for hunting, or a ban on lead ammo altogether. This is a political effort, not an environmental one, so I’d ask Oregon firearms owners to become active now. This first hearing is a political setup since it is open to the public but only invited testimony is allowed.

John- comment- the name for this is rationalization.

rachel – The Bloomberg group Moms Demand Attention has told Kroger Supermarkets to ban firearms, or else their billionaire funder will take out advertisements against the supermarket. They made that press release during the same week when They knocked three people unconscious and stomped and kicked one of the unconscious victims. The store was in Memphis, Tennessee

Rob- comment- It’s called Mogadishu on the Mississippi for a reason!

john – Wait, friends, there is more. The media outlet MSNBC ran a poll asking its viewers if Kroger shoppers should be allowed to carry handguns in the store. Only one person in six said citizens bearing arms could threaten public safety.

Rachel- comment- I doubt that was the answer they expected.

Rob- comment- I bet they won’t ask that question again.

rob – The US Department of Justice is hampering an the legal investigation lead by.. the US Department of Justice. The IG said “The FBI and some other department components … have refused our requests for various types of documents. As a result, a number of our reviews have been significantly impeded.” The DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Operation Fast and Furious was one of the DOJ programs that ran guns to Mexican drug cartels. Those firearms were then used to kill mexican citizens and US border patrol agents.

rachel – Firearms sales reached a phenomenal record last year. This year The National Shooting Sports Federation released its August 2014 adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 989,337 per month. That is the third highest August on record for the 16-year-old system, even with a decrease of 2.7 percent compared to the August 2013 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,016,559. For comparison, the unadjusted August 2014 NICS figure of 1,538,347 reflects a 9.2 percent increase from the unadjusted NICS figure of 1,408,468 in August 2013. The adjusted NICS data were derived by subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks used by several states such as Connecticut, Illinois, and Utah for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases.

John- comment- Gun culture 2.0 is alive and growing.

Rachel- comment- I’d heard that gun sales were down, but I didn’t believe it because I still couldn’t find 22 caliber ammunition on the shelves.

Rob- comment- I like the way you think. One observation on store shelves is worth a stack of statistics.

john – Gun culture 2.0 is not confined to the United States. A report from Vienna reveals that applications for and there are now 85,000 registered weapons in the city. A local woman said she bought a gun after several of her neighbours had been the victims of crime. In Austria, gun laws are much less strict than in the United Kingdom. Many weapons that require a full licence from the police can be purchased over the counter in Austria, such as pump-action shotguns and repeating rifles. Only weapons like handguns and semi-automatic rifles require a licence, and there were 460 new applications last year.

rob- A New Jersey lawmaker took up the case of Shaneen Allen. New Jersey State Senator Jeff Van Drew said “In this case, we’re punishing an innocent woman who made an honest mistake, and was totally legal in her 中国体彩官方app state of Pennsylvania. I mean, honest mistakes happen, she’s a legal, law-abiding person and a mistake occurred and quite frankly the judge should have discretion and jurisdiction.” so cases like Allen’s can avoid the state’s mandatory jail time if convicted. A similar bill is in the New Jersey House.

rachel – The new jersey second amendment association started their fully informed voter project this week. They handed out leaflets across from the County criminal court in Atlantic County, NJ. They greeted people arriving for jury duty and said “Good morning, may I give you this brochure on juror rights”. Over all, people seem to be interested in knowing what their rights are. They will be back next Monday to continue leafletting in Atlantic County. They have plans to expand into all of New Jersey’s 21 counties.

Tips and tricks

Kids and guns-
Kids and guns is a continuation of kids and responsibility. I added rules to child’s play. When you see kids play with monsters, you ask them where the monster went, and ask them to put the monster away in its crate when they are done playing with it. Later you ask, Where is your sword. You didn’t leave it on the floor where I’d cut myself, did you? Here, you need a scabbard for your sword. The point is that there are rules even in fantasy play.

This continues when your children shoot finger guns. Don’t point that loaded finger gun at me. Let’s check if your finger gun is loaded. You need a holster. Treat your finger gun as if it is always loaded.

Children and Firearms: raising a polite society

How do you raise a polite society?
How do you raise your kids to be the kind of citizens you want them to be….responsible, trustworthy, courteous; able to handle firearms safely and competently, understanding their purpose and use? How do you make that happen?

Same way you’d teach anything else really important that you want to instill in them: model it. Be that person. Let them see you as a safe, responsible, knowledgeable firearms owner and user in your daily life.

1.) Safety
2.) Privacy – consider what they will tell others. Don’t let them have information that’s not public until you trust them to keep it private.
Rob- Say that again-

Teach them to keep information private – there are some things we just don’t talk about.

As long as you don’t hinder your safety or privacy, include your children in the way you make firearms a part of your everyday life.

Safety Rules
– make them memorize as young as possible
– even before then, let them see you living out the safety rules

– Let them see you clean guns (considerations: good ventilation)
– Let them help you (age-appropriately and with supervision as needed)
– Show them how it works (age-appropriately) so it’s not a mystery
Scenario: Jordan figuring out how to reassemble, exploring the various parts and seeing how they fit together

Rob? Take the excitement away from firearms by satisfying a child’s . A dirty gun gathers no excitement. A dirty gun in pieces is less than exciting, it is repulsive. My children had to clean before they could touch. They had to clean before they could shoot.

– start them as early as possible with toy guns, wooden sticks you’re pretending to be guns, stocks with a sling; when they’ve demonstrated safety and maturity, move to BB guns, airsoft, then actual firearms
– Teach them to do it just as you would with a real gun – using a good holster, being careful not to sweep bystanders when drawing
Scenario: children carrying play guns alongside their parents at open carry walks – follow the same safety rules
Scenario: when I’m loaning a youth shooter my 10/22 for an Appleseed shoot, I will show them how to use it and carry it safely, then I let THEM be the ones to carry it to the line.

– Be sure it’s comfortable and enjoyable
– Noise: use plenty of ear protection
– eye protection – teach the importance
– Hot brass: they’ll experience it eventually but try to prevent it from happening the first few times
– Elbow pads, knee pads, etc.
– Fit the gun to them – shorter stocks, risers, etc.
– Gloves sometimes help
– Let them take their time – dont’ rush them
– Let them leave when they’re done – don’t force them to stay
– Food and water
– Let them handle the guns, clear them, dryfire, etc. long before a trip to the range so they’re comfortable with the gun
Scenario: Appleseed shoots are a great introduction to shooting for responsible youth shooters. Bring a group of friends and make it the cool thing to do. Go out for ice cream afterward – that’s my tradition and everyone knows they’ll have that to look forward to after a long, tiring day at the range.

Other considerations:
– It’s OK if they don’t love guns. Your goal isn’t to raise a gun nut – it’s to raise a safe, responsible citizen.
– If your kid didn’t want to read, he’d still have to learn. He may never be an English major but he still needs to learn to read fluently. That’s how I’d treat firearms training – like a mandatory school subject that they must learn, and then they can choose what to do with it in the future after they are fluent in the basics.
– Consider what things might make your children dislike firearms and try to prevent it. For example: you paying more attention to guns and shooting than you do to them; a poor experience shooting; being laughed at; guns that don’t fit well; having to go to a shooting event when they wanted to do something else.

John – I did a post that I put up last night playing off something Sen. Harry Reid said Monday. Reid, talking about the Koch brothers, said billionaires were trying to buy our democracy. Harry’s right but he had the wrong billionaires. If you look at the amount of money put into the universal background check initiative in Washington State, I-594, you will see approximately 75% of it comes from five billionaires plus one multimillionaire heiress. Collectively, they have put in over $5 million dollars into the campaign. On the pro-gun side the largest individual donation was by a Boeing engineer and it was for $1,500. Now who are the billionaires trying to buy democracy. You decide.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant

Paul- The truck died.. again! This time it is the AC unit. Dry fire practice. I have a sidewinder pro holster on the way.

Rob- I’ve been busy. Business cards, ammo, dry practice, steel shoot. Wrote an article. John, one of our listeners sent me a link to open source software that records the shot pattern from your SIRT pistol. Listener John in Texas, please take note. Oh, I edited Wednesday’s show on my day off.

John – Not much in the way of gun stuff to report since Wednesday. I did order a Kydex holster to go with the SIRT pistol. It’s hard to practice your draw without a holster unless, of course, you want to end up like Plaxico Burris.

Rob- you don’t have an M&P?

Rachel- I taught my brother how to take apart, clean, and reassemble my AR and XD. That’s the beauty of 中国体彩官方appschooling. It gave me some great ideas for a tips and tricks segment on children and firearms…stay tuned for that in the near future. I’ve also been making plans for a Battle Road defensive handgun class with some friends of mine. You know you have great friends when that’s their idea of hanging out and celebrating everyone being in town together.

John-Joseph Palumbo, co-owner of the Albion Gun Shop, released information today that New York State Police officers from the Narcotics Enforcement Unit under threat of a warrantless SWAT Team Raid. Since the passing of the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (S.A.F.E.) Act, the New York State Troopers Narcotics Enforcement Unit has been delegated to enforce the S.A.F.E. Act and to handle all matters pertaining to the S.A.F.E. Act. This unit visited Mr. Palumbo on several occasions, disrupting his business, to see that Mr. Palumbo is compliant with the S.A.F.E. act provisions for licensed gun shops owners. “The New York State Police told me that my guns were NY S.A.F.E. compliant. The chief of the Medina police told me my rifles were NY S.A.F.E. compliant and in fact purchased one of the guns from my shop.” James D. Tresmond, attorney for the Albion Gun Shop, raised the possibility of entrapment. “My client disclosed to me that he would not have sold these rifles to the general public had they not been approved by the New York Division of State Police”

Rachel Comment- That makes sense that Governor Cuomo got the drug cops to enforce the gun laws. The drug cops are usually the most corrupt unit on the police force.

Rob- Could dirty cops tie up an honest store in court and drive them out of business.

Paul -We brought you a number of pro-self-defense news articles we found in the mainstream press. Perhaps this next news item explains why the press has changed their attitude. In San Francisco, while he was sitting inside his Television Station news van. The thieves took his wallet, computers and television equipment. All this happened in “gun free” San Francisco.

Rob Comment- Go ahead, mister news announcer. Tell me the police will protect me. I dare you.

Rachel- A firearms manufacturer in Oregon was suddenly blocked from processing credit card transactions. The company that Calico Light Weapons Systems used to process the transactions said the company was involved in illegal activities. The manufacturer denied this, and the bank would not specify what activities were illegal. Operation Choke Point lets the Departments of Justice and Treasury block banks from servicing selected businesses. Calico Systems recovered by partnering with McMillan Merchant Solutions. McMillan is based in Arizona and was started by members of a firearm manufacturing company. McMillan simply decided that it won’t be cowed by the government’s strong-arm tactics.

Paul Comment- This sounds like more lies, denials and delays from the obama administration.

John Comment- And the Obama administration didn’t run guns to Mexico either.. just ask the mainstream media.

Rob- comments- Calico sells springs, screws and small gun parts. They were accused of selling firearms over the internet.

Rob- The Point Marion Police Department in Fayette County closed its doors after settling lawsuits against two police officers. The city manager of this Pennsylvania town said “We had to lay off all the officers due to the fact that we do not have police liability insurance.” The insurance carrier dropped the department after paying two settlements against the department’s only two police officers. One of the officers was fired from two other nearby Police Departments. This time the officer was sued was by the ACLU for arresting a citizen who was recording the officer on his cell phone. The ACLU won. Insurance premiums went up ten fold. The city can’t afford the insurance and The city is now patrolled by state police.

John- The Second Amendment Foundation and the NRA’s Civil Rights Legal Defense Fund The Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Islands is a US territory. As SAF head Alan Gottlieb notes, ““The Second Amendment does not just apply to the continental United States and Hawaii. It also applies to territories under U.S. jurisdiction. The issue is a fundamental civil right, not only to possess a handgun, but also to use firearms for self-defense purposes, which is currently banned in the Northern Marianas.” The Northern Marianas are located north and east of the Philippines in the Pacific Ocean and includes the island of Saipan.

Rachel Comment – It is good to see the NRA and SAF working together on this issue.
Rob- comment- Guam issues concealed carry permits.

Paul- Speaking of the Second Amendment Foundation.. The organization Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership will officially . JPFO operations will move from Wisconsin to Washington. The new board of directors at JPFO has not been made public.

Rachel- School started, and some things changed this fall in Idaho. That is because Idaho became the seventh state to allow concealed carry on campus. Oregon, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Mississippi and Wisconsin also allow students to conceal weapons on campus. Campus carry in Idaho requires an enhanced permit, and some 3000 permits have already been issued.

Rob- Comment- I’m know these laws drive some of the college administrators crazy.

John- Comment- The college administrators are crazy to oppose campus carry. I’ve had soldiers and veterans as students in college courses. We’d be crazy to disarm them. These experienced adults have seen more stress and demonstrated more self-control than ANY university administrator.

Rachel- Comment- Soldiers and veterans absolutely have the right to carry on campus…along with the rest of us.

Rob- Most of us are familiar with the gun safety education for elementary school children called the Eddie Eagle program. It is once again part of the curriculum in some Jacksonville, Florida schools. The school allows parents to opt out of the gun safety program. The only reason this made the news is that He said he would have opted his child out of the program if he’d known it was developed by the NRA. The program encourages children to stop when they see a gun, not to touch it, to leave the area and tell an adult right away. School officials said the district hopes utilizing the program will help prevent tragedies that start by children playing with guns.

Paul Comment- All publicity is good publicity.. as long as they spell the name right.

Rachel Comment- again, the beauty of 中国体彩官方appschooling: you can throw in gun safety or even shooting classes without going through any government red tape or dealing with school regulations..

John- Billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg knows how to pick his allies. We criticize the mayor for his organization Mayors Against Illegal Guns. That is because so many of his mayors have been arrested for corruption. Once you’ll take money from Michael Bloomberg, you’ll take money from anybody. Now we see a similar thing happen to the Bloomberg group, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Erika Quinn, the Oklahoma leader of Demanding Moms, has a restraining order against her. The restraining order bars Ms Quinn from being within 300 yards of her children and prohibits her from having firearms.

Rachel- comment- Gun control means training regularly. Gun sense means taking a real class in armed self-defense. THAT is how real moms keep their children safe.
Rob- comment Does Twitter have throw-back thursday?

Paul- Does it feel like there are one set for rules for government officials and another set of rules for ordinary citizens? The rest of us have to be fingerprinted. The rest of us have to undergo a background check. The rest of us have to demonstrate training and proficiency. The rest of us are disarmed in most government buildings.

Rachel Comment- Not if you’re a judge.
Rob Comment- I read where two Califonia judges were disciplined for having sex in their chambers.
John Comment- I wonder if the judge can enter a post office while armed?

Rachel- Shaneen Allen was arrested for bringing a gun into New Jersey. Also in New Jersey, Bonnie Oliver Allamong was prosecuted for bringing her firearm to her sisters house to protect her sister from domestic abuse. Both are victims of New Jersey prosecutors. Now lawyers have asked to look at the prosecution record to see if there is a consistent pattern of abusive prosecution.

John Comment- That says something when attorneys question the impartiality of the prosecution.
Paul Comment- We have a legal system, not a justice system.

Rob- Many gun owners across the country中国体彩官方app are subject to background checks as they buy firearms and get licenses to carry concealed. The background check is the holy grail of gun-safety for gun prohibitionists. Recent news revealed that and worked as a baggage handler at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The MInneapolis Metropolitan Airports Commission handles security clearances and background checks for the airport. The terrorist was recently killed while fighting in Syria.

Rachel Comment- well that makes me feel safer.
John Comment- at least he passed his background check.

John- at approximately 3:21 p.m., Tuesday. The 中国体彩官方app’s owner called police after he found a man in his basement. The 中国体彩官方appowner went downstairs looking for his cat. He found a partially disrobed intruder instead. The 中国体彩官方appowner called police and grabbed his handgun. 42 year old Billy Ray Snow was arrested at the scene and charged with trespassing.

Rob Comment- and intoxication, I’ll bet.

Paul- as they were walking to their cars after closing time Monday night. Fortunately, one of the employees was legally carrying concealed and fought back. One of the attackers, a 15 y.o. with gang ties and a long criminal history including armed robbery, was killed. Police took the rest of the teen attackers into custody. Milwaukee Police Lt. Mark Stanmeyer said the group was believed to have been responsible for dozens of robberies over the last three days. No charges have been brought against the man who defended the group though he was originally taken into police custody.

Rob- that must be why Chicago politicians want to disarm everyone who goes into a bar.

Rachel- . She was awakened by noises and found the door to her attached garage open. She grabbed her handgun, a . and followed her pitbull to her 中国体彩官方app office where they found Kudlacz hiding in a closet. He tried to get out of the situation by saying Mrs. Haley knew him. She responded, “ I said I don’t know you, shut up and quit talking to me.” She noted to the media that she wanted to control the situation. Kudlacz had been in the process of stacking stolen clothes, gift cards, and jewelry before he was found. He was charged with burglary.

Paul Comment – Interestingly, the location is just 4 blocks from the University of Nebraska – Omaha campus. And yet authorities want to keep students and staff at risk in a gun-free zone.

Rob- Police said Cihak, who armed himself, walked into his living room to find Bryan Remley, 25, going through Cihak’s belongings. Cihak said he was armed because his 中国体彩官方app had been broken into a week earlier. The intruder started running towards the 中国体彩官方appowner who fired two shots but missed. The 中国体彩官方appowner ran to get a backup gun and came back to find Remley in the kitchen unable to get out. He held him there until police responded to the 911 call placed by Mrs. Cihak. While waiting, Remley told the 中国体彩官方appowner he’d come back and mow his yard if he’d just let him go. Remley was charged with armed residential burglary and a probation violation. Mr & Mrs Cihak said they have a plan to be armed whenever they get up in the middle of the night.

I thought this story might interest you. It encompasses registration, bans, storage, and government craziness.

Commentary : It’s a story about theft of registered firearms in New South Wales Australia. It seems that criminals are still finding a way to become armed. Color me shocked.

Paul- Chris emailed in this link to a story and says that this is why he carries a gun.

A white Missouri couple was brutally attacked outside of a Springfield nightclub by a mob of young black men, and now police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the attackers.

According to , the incident happened on Aug. 22 outside of the Outland Ballroom. The victims sustained serious injuries after being assaulted by multiple black males.

Meredith Cole said she was outside of the club where her boyfriend Alex is a DJ, when she was approached by the group, who attempted to sexually assault her. Cole said she went back inside to tell her boyfriend what happened, and when they went back out to identify her assailants they were viciously attacked by the group.

reports that both of the victims had to seek treatment at the hospital for their injuries, which included a fractured ankle for Cole.

Seg 2- News News_Partner_white

Rachel -John Katso was a New York prosecutor. He prosecuted organized crime. He prosecuted street gangs in Syracuse, and put 130 gang members in jail. He and his family were threatened. Katso asked for and received permission to carry a firearm. His car was robbed in the church parking lot while Mr. Katso and his family were inside. His firearm was taken from the car. A few weeks later, the thieves used the stolen firearm in a strongarm robbery of an illegal gambling house. All that happened 14 years ago. This November, John Katso is running for congress. Here are points to ponder;

One- Take your gun with you when you go to church.
Two- Read political comments in New York media very carefully.

John Comment- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms loses about 15 firearms a year.

Rob- A police officer in New York city stopped at a Bronx bodega on his way to work at the 44th precinct. Fortunately, they did not kill the officer. Backup officers caught the thugs and recovered the pistol.. this time.

John Comment- The 44th precinct is where John Cardillo was a patrolman. We’ve had John on the show.
Rob Comment- I’ve heard an officer say he can never lose a fight. The officer can run away, but if he loses a fight then the odds are the thugs will kill him with his own gun.
Rachel Comment- Here is an important safety tip- don’t fight a police officer.

John- Welcome中国体彩官方app back from your long Labor Day weekend. In New York City, 15 people were shot on Saturday and Sunday, and another 10 were shot on Labor Day. 4 of them died from the gunshots. In Chicago, 33 people were shot and three of them died over the three day weekend.

Rob Comment- Ouch. Those gun free zones aren’t working, are they!

Rachel- This phrase has become a joke, “Trust me. I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” The US military was going to help local law enforcement by giving them surplus military weapons. They received M-4’s, M-14s and M-16s. They received shotguns, handguns and armored vehicles. As you’d expect, the local police departments are not as careful with other people’s property as they might be with their own equipment. and the entire program is under review. Weapons are missing from police arsenals.. as well as two humvees.

In Mississippi, the Meridian Police Department was suspended from the program after their inventory showed four missing M14s. In neighboring Arkansas, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department was suspended after it lost an M14 assault rifle and a night vision scope that was “damaged and destroyed” without prior approval. The Huntington Beach, California Police Department was suspended from the program after losing an M16 assault rifle. Quote

“The loss was discovered during an internal audit, and an investigation was inconclusive as to how that occurred.”

John Comment- I have a curio and relics license, and I don’t think the lost weapons were transferred with a 4473.
Rachel Comment- No, probably not.

Rob – This law enforcement officer knows his citizens. Maryland politics are dominated by Baltimore and the DC suburbs. Rural Maryland is another country中国体彩官方app entirely. Wicomico [wy-KAHM-ih-koh] County Sheriff Mike Lewis reminded the citizens of his county that . “I made a vow and a commitment. As long as I am sheriff of this county, I will not allow the federal government to come in here and strip my citizens of the right to bear arms.” Sheriff Lewis is mindful of keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous felons, but also explained, “We do not need to strip law abiding citizens of their Second Amendment right to bear arms. That I get upset over. I really do. I can tell you this. If they attempt to do that, it will be an all-out civil war. No question about it.”

Rachel Comment- I bet he is part of the Constitutional Sheriff’s and Peace officers association.
rob Commnet- I wish he were my Sheriff.
John Comment- Yeah, but then you’d have to live in Maryland.
Rob Comment- Good point.

John- Welcome中国体彩官方app back. The California legislature did not close business until 5am Saturday morning. There were several proposed bills that attacked the right of armed self-defense. Some of them died in the legislature, and some of them are sitting on the Governor’s desk waiting for his signature. The Firearms Policy Coalition wants to flood California Governor Jerry Brown’s office with e-mails and faxes. Give them some clicks at These bills establish firearms restraining orders, mandate firearms registration, and mandate a gun owner re-transfer his own firearms each time he leaves or enters the state.

Rachel Comment- Let’s give California gun owners some help.

Rob – Here is some more news from the land of the fruits and nuts. A junior high school vice principal in California was arrested after he didn’t break the law. Bakersfield police took 51 year old Kent Williams, into custody sometime after 9 am. Williams is Vice Principal of Tevis Junior High School. Assistant Superintendent Gerrie Kincaid said she immediately notified police when a district administrator called her with an anonymous tip that a staff member had a gun on campus.

It took the Bakersfield police several hours to conclude that no laws had been broken because the Vice Principal holds a valid Kern County concealed weapons permit that allows him to have a firearm on a school campus. The Vice Principal remains on paid administrative leave from the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District for violating district policy by bringing the firearm on campus before he received permission from Superintendent Gerrie Kincaid. Superintendent Kincaid said “We’re a gun-free zone.”

Rachel Comment- Evidently they are far from a gun free zone.
John Comment- A gun free fantasy zone maybe, but not a gun free zone.
Rachel Comment- Does an “anonymous tip” sound suspect to you too?

Rachel- Here’s some breaking news from Texas. Today, Michael Keoughan stood trial regarding last January when he was openly carrying a rifle. Michael is a part of Come And Take It Texas but was doing a solo walk in a new location as part of a brand-new CATI chapter. CATI-TX has stood with him through his legal harassment this year, and today he was vindicated as the jury returned the verdict: Not Guilty.

Rob Comment- It is legal if we all do it but not legal if you open carry alone?

John – The Washington Times described the . There are some 57 thousand businesses that welcome the armed citizen. The Cajun Experience in Leesburg, Virginia, has Second Amendment Wednesdays, where patrons are encouraged to either go concealed carry or open carry. Shiloh Brew & Chew in Maryville, Tennessee gained national media attention by putting a sign in the window of her restaurant welcoming firearm owners with permits. The Chicken Express in Bossier City, Louisiana, gave a free combo meal to patrons who showed up with a concealed carry license. John Kavanaugh owns Kavanaugh’s Esquire Club in Madison, Wisconsin decided not to disarm his honest patrons with a “no guns” sign. Quote ”..what if a crook came in and realized he was the only one with a firearm? Why should I post that? There’s never been an issue about it. We have such a variety of customers — older, younger, a lot of families.” Some restaurants ask their customers to disarm. The Pit Authentic Barbecue in Durham, North Carolina, decided to hang a “No Weapons, No Concealed Firearms” sign in the window. The barbecue restaurant was robbed at gunpoint in May. Two employees were injured, with one ending up in the hospital. Their Raleigh restaurant is the one that hosted Gabby Giffords on her so-called listening tour.

Rachel Comment- Gun check! Who has their gun?
Rob Comment- Podcasting makes me hungry!

Rachel- Last episode we talked about more school districts with armed school staff on campus. This is why they are critically important. . The 15 year old student told her friends she wanted “to do a mass school shooting and end it with suicide by cop.” Her friends told school officials and the student was arrested. She is being held at the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center.

Rob Comments-??? I’m sad that this young lady is suicidal. We’re lucky she was stopped in time. I’m glad more school staff are armed.

Rob- This is a story about someone who hates gun owners. The self-proclaimed liberal democrat Mike Dickinson saying “Dear god, please use Ebola to infect the NRA and it’s various members. For they are a true virus and true terrorists in America. There would be no funnier thing then to see the NRA members in a death clutch of their gun while dealing with Ebola.” Dickinson used shock media to get attention before. In July he offered 100 thousand dollars for nude photos of the hunter and college cheerleader Kendall Jones. Dickinson also attacked the The Tea Party and Christians.

John Comment- I don’t think reaching out as a kinder and gentler gun owner is going to help with this guy. He hates us.
Rachel Comment- Haters are going to hate, and it isn’t about us.

John – We have discussed the impact of concealed carry on the murder rates in Chicago a number of times on the podcast. Kurt holds that it is unnecessary to rely upon statistics to make our case for gun rights. Kurt states, “I don’t care because fundamental human rights–and the right to self-defense must be seen by any rational, ethical person as chief among those–cannot legitimately be held hostage to a requirement for a favorable statistical outcome.” He goes on to make the point that using numbers to justify our rights tacitly surrenders those rights if the numbers turn against us. He concludes by saying that our opponents try to bolster their weak arguments using stats like “a gun in the 中国体彩官方app is 43 times as likely to kill a family member” etc and that we must be better than that.

Rachel – This might seem philosophical, but we can do that every now and again. Some liberal politicians want us to turn in our guns. All of them. Those are their words, not our words. Their “common sense regulation” is simply a series of stepping stones to disarmament. We’ve taken about 23 thousand such steps in the United States so far, and the gun grabbers are still not satisfied. Let me modify that last statement; citizens will be disarmed, not the government. In fact, as citizens are disarmed and crime soars, the police claim they need more and more arms. We’re told again and again that officer safety is paramount. We have another example of where totalitarian power leads. This example comes from Iraq. ISIS, the Al-Qaeda associated group, issued this declaration for all land under its control. in Iraq . . .

No public gathering are allowed other than those organised by ISIS. No guns are allowed other than those belonging to ISIS and carried by its supporters.

It has been said many times that power grows out of the barrel of a gun, and it looks like ISIS is embracing that idea.

Rob- Gun Quotes- To trust arms in the hands of the people at large has, in Europe, been believed…to be an experiment fraught only with danger. Here by a long trial it has been proved to be perfectly harmless…If the government be equitable; if it be reasonable in its exactions; if proper attention be paid to the education of children in knowledge and religion, few men will be disposed to use arms, unless for their amusement, and for the defence of themselves and their country中国体彩官方app. — Timothy Dwight, Travels in New England and New York [London 1823]

Rachel-This defensive gun use story is from Orchard Park, New York. A 中国体彩官方appowner and his son heard unusual sounds from an upstairs room at 1am. They saw two people dressed in dark clothing use a ladder to break into an upstairs window. The 中国体彩官方appowner called police. The 中国体彩官方appowner and his son also grabbed their firearms and . Police arrested 18-year-old Jacob Rappleye and 22-year-old Anthony Guarino. Both are charged with attempted burglary, criminal mischief, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Mendez was taken to an undisclosed hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Mendez already has a pending case in which he has been charged with two counts of criminal damage to property of less than $300, Class A misdemeanors, and mob action, a Class C misdemeanor. He also is under court supervision for a misdemeanor battery charge, a case in which he also was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 2 felony; resisting or obstructing a police officer resulting in injury, a Class 4 felony; and theft of less than $500, a Class A misdemeanor. Those charges were dismissed.

Rachel Comment- Another frequent flyer.

John – This is why you carry. It happened along a walking path in Lancaster, Ohio. Dinah Burns was walking her dog when two young white men came out of the woods along her path. One of them held a baseball bat and said she was coming with them. The two men were not afraid of her dog, but they fled after Dinah Burns is licensed to carry a concealed gun, but she’d only recently started taking her weapon while walking her dog.

Listener e-mail discussion.

Rob- I got an e-mail from listener John in Texas who recently got his pistol instructors certificate. He also has a SIRT pistol and promised to share his training tips with me. Congratulations, John, and I want to hear your ideas.

Rachel- Here is an e-mail from TJ

Hey everyone,
Can you guys give some tips on keeping front sight focus while transitioning between targets and shooting while moving? I tend to shift my focus from my sight to the next target and then have trouble refocusing on the front sight to make my next shot. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

TJ Gauthier

Rachel- practice slowly and perfectly
Rob- distance. point shoot versus slow aimed fire.

Rob, do you have any new posts you want to mention? Only that my post on my “may issue” sheriff was picked up by NRA news. How about you John?

John do you want to mention anything off of your Only Guns and Money blog you would like to talk about?

her very long-running and very popular gun blog, View from the Porch. At the heart of her decision was having to deal with a cyberstalker. I said the person involved needed to be charged, convicted, and imprisoned. While I have been informed of his name, I don’t feel it proper to state it on the podcast as that would be giving him more attention than someone of his ilk deserves.

John- Rob, what do you have up on SlowFacts?
Rob- I’ll have a post comparing self- defense in two cities.

Seg 1- Personal news from each participant
Paul – I am looking for some help with the GP2AS. If you live south of the Canadian border, East of Montana, North of Oklahoma, and West of Illinois and are interested in helping us grow, please email me. I am mainly looking for people to help with the Facebook Site and our Website right now. Mostly just doing for the great plains what we do on the show here, just on a more regional level. I am looking for people from each state, and the more involved you are in the second amendment cause in your state the better. These are NOT paid positions, but if you ask nice I MIGHT be able to get you into the GRPC at no charge. You would have to pay for your own room and get yourself there though.

John – My wife and I took a “road trip” today to Greenville, SC to tour the recently opened Cabela’s store. While not as big as some, at 105,000 sq. ft. it was plenty big. I saw a lot of nice firearms in their Gun Library. What I didn’t see in the store was .22 LR rifle ammo.

Rob- Only work and work at 中国体彩官方app. Nothing gun related. I need to buy ammunition.

Seg 2- News

Paul – It should surprise no one that Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey has that he doesn’t plan on intervening in the Shaneen Allen case until it has been completely adjudicated. Christie is quoted as having said “I don’t like to intervene in the judicial process until the judicial process has an opportunity to work its way through,” he said. “I think then and only then is it the appropriate time for a governor to consider action.” My own editorial comment is that now isn’t the time to let up. Let’s keep pouring the pressure on Christie and the other people who have bearing on this case. The number for the Governor’s office is 609- 292-6000.

John Comment- Ms. Allen’s lawyers originally hoped to raise about 25 thousand dollars through donations. They raised that, and more. There are also many thousands of dollars raised to put up billboards calling out the local prosecutor and asking why the Atlantic County Attorney chose to prosecute a single black mom who had no prior convictions. She could serve up to 11 and a half years in state prison.

You can donate at SAF.org too.

Rob -In a continuation of the theme we have had over the last few episodes, there is a positive news story in what is usually termed the mainstream media that appeared recently. An article appeared on recently that advocated teaching your children to shoot. What is even more amazing is that this appeared AFTER news broke about a shooting instructor who lost his life in a tragic incident with a child shooting a full auto uzi recently, in fact it is mentioned right at the beginning of the article. The story is well written and worth a read.

John -Jacob Smith is a junior at the University of South Carolina. and he’s not alone. Smith belongs to USC Students for Concealed Carry. Unfortunately there is a minor crime wave on campus to fuel their cause. Less than a week ago, the university says a student was held at gunpoint at the Horseshoe, taken to an East Quad dorm, and forced to give the suspect money. Over the weekend, a gunman was reportedly spotted near the Russell House. Most recently, a 19-year-old was the victim of a strong-armed robbery. University President Harris Pastides has promised more patrols of uniformed and plain-clothed officers as well as more security cameras and call boxes on campus. However, Jacob Smith, who is also in the US Navy, proposes another solution. Smith wants the law changed so students could defend themselves.

Rob – July 1st was the first day that Idaho citizens with an enhanced permit could carry concealed on the campus of Boise State University. Idaho has liberal carry restrictions for an ordinary concealed carry license. Course work for the enhanced license covers legal education and range time.

Paul Comment- no streets running red with blood?
Rob Comment- not a drop.

Paul- A that piqued my interest a group of small business drivers is circulating a petition that drivers be able to carry in order to defend themselves. It says in part that the current patchwork of laws from state to state interferes with interstate commerce. It’s an interesting take. I don’t believe that it has much of a chance until next year at least, depending on the elections this fall, however it is worth a look. Thanks to Greg in Bremerton for sending this one in.

John- Voters in voted to take gun restrictions out of the hands of politicians and appointed city managers. The votes were finally counted in the special election, and now the voters have the authority to decide if guns are welcome on city property. From now on, only a public vote can enact a ban on open carry in Castle Rock.

Rob- And that is how it should be. It should be citizens and not bureaucrats or politicians making the decision.

Rob- Talking about votes, California legislators defeated an ammunition registration bill by the slimmest of margins. The final vote on California bill SB53 You would need your ammunition buyers ID card to buy ammunition. It would have required a fingerprint check to buy ammunition. The bill would have made it illegal to buy ammunition online. You could be arrested for picking up my ammunition from the ground at the range.

Rob- I reached out to some of the legislators, so we might get to hear from them next episode.

John – A tragedy happened in Omaha this week when a member of the film crew for the television show “Cops” died after being shot while filming for the show this week. Bryce Dion, a 38 year old sound engineer for the show was fatally shot while helping to film a police response to what appeared to be an armed robbery at a Wendy’s restaurant. The reported that film crews for the popular TV show wear bullet resistant vests while filming. Unfortunately a vest wasn’t enough to stop the tragedy this time.

Paul- You might remember that outdoor signs promoting firearms safety were taken down by the city of Phoenix. Later the city lost a court case against them for violating free speech rights of Train Me Arizona. Here is a similar situation in Washington, DC. Project Child Safe wanted to run advertisements at major airports across the country中国体彩官方app. The ads advocated responsible gun ownership and said, “Own It? Respect it. Secure it.” The advertisements went up in Hartford-Springfield, Las Vegas, Little Rock, Providence and St. Louis. in Arlington, Virginia refused the advertisements.

Rob Comment- Free speech for me, but not for thee, in DC?
Paul- Comment- You’re a poet.
John- Comment- the second amendment is too political for DC?

Rob- Also in Washington DC, there was an anti-regulation article in the conservative Washington Times. The article said that . “(The origin of gun control) is actually the statist belief in big government. Too many activists and politicians crave the power by controlling people’s lives to the nth degree. They find fulfillment in believing that they are improving society by making better decisions than ordinary people would make. It’s the ultimate loss of freedom when your personal safety — and your family’s — must be entrusted totally to government. Millions of Americans are saying they don’t trust government to protect them. That is why they insist upon their right of self-defense, free of government threats to restrict or remove it.” The article is by former congressman Ernest Istook.

Paul Comment- Congressman Istook gets it!
John Comment- Think the congressman will be a the Gun Rights Policy Conference later this month?

Paul – The Clearview, Colorado Library is being sued. The library asked Erika Sattler after another library patron spotted the her carrying a handgun complained to a library staff member. Erika Sattler has a concealed carry permit, but the library has a policy prohibiting weapons of any kind except those carried by law enforcement. Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, the gun-rights lobby that was instrumental in recalling two state senators last year, is bringing the suit against the library.

Rob Comment- The smell of bigotry is strong in the Clearview Library.

John- There are some 23 thousand firearms regulations in the United States. Law Professor Eugene Volokh came up with he thought were both abusive and vulnerable to legal challenge. The restrictions on concealed carry in public topped his list. They affect 50 million people in California, Washington DC, Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island.

Paul -Comment- we have our work cut out for us.

Rob- Our friends in Montana can use our help. Gary Marbut is running for the Montana House of Representatives. He is no stranger to Montana politics. Gary was President of the Montana Shooting Sports Association, and helped enact 64 pro-gun bills in the past 30 years. Gary was named by SAF as the Grassroots Activist of the Year, not once, but twice. Gary has vowed to not take any money from any special interest groups, only from individual contributors.

John Comment- until the billionaires for liberty start spending, It is up to us little guys to get the job done.

John- Statistics appear to be on our side again in Illinois, or more specifically the windy city. The Blaze reports that crime rates year to year are appearing to drop even though not one single tactic has changed in policing policies during the same period. Both robberies and burglaries are down 20 percent. The only change according to The Blaze is concealed carry licenses over 83,000 licenses have been applied for, and over 68,000 have been granted in the state since January.

Rob- The chicago cops gave up on prosecuting some crime in high crime areas. They saved police effort for the well-to-do areas of the city.

Paul – Comment: Please remember that early this year a similar story appeared and we cautioned you not to become too optimistic and that it had been a horrifically cold and brutal winter. Sure enough this summer we are seeing murders and shootings up again. Are the numbers good news, yes. However before we claim any sort of victory other than individual DGU’s lets get a few years of numbers.

Rob- All of us need to follow the four safety rules. All of us, all the time. Agents and staff searched the El Cosmico hotel and campground next to the headquarters looking for damage. The agency said the negligent discharge took place during a training session.

John Comment- So federal agents don’t have super powers with a firearm?
Rob Comment- Nope.

John Gun Quotes
“It is the privilege of every citizen, and one of his most essential rights, to bear arms, and to resist every attack upon his liberty or property, by whomsoever made.” – Roger Sherman of CT, 1790, during a speech before the US House of Reps. Sherman was a signatory to Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution.

Paul- Hang on everybody, we’ll be right back after this

Segment 3 Interview with Chris Petersen of PTR industries.
Segment 4 DGUs

Rob -A man trying to rob a Dairy Queen on the south side of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He threatened the cashier with a gun through the drive through window and demanded money from the till. The cashier gave him the money and then ducked behind the counter. The man then asked for more money. The thief was struck at least once and died after being transported to University of New Mexico Hospital. No restaurant employees were injured during the incident. No no other suspects are at large. Police do not expect to file charges against the store employee for firing in self-defense.

Paul- A strange DGU , A 中国体彩官方appowner had had his 中国体彩官方app broken into 4 years ago and he stated was just getting his sense of security back. Then earlier this week he is in bed and the doorbell rings and rings and rings. Then come loud knocks at the door, and someone trying to kick the door in. The 中国体彩官方appowner was on the phone with 911 and had his handgun. When the bad guy broke in the 中国体彩官方appowner ordered him to leave and then to stop advancing. when the intruder did neither the 中国体彩官方appowner shot the intruder. The intruder falls down immediately begins crying, begging for his life and asking to call his girlfriend. At last report he was in the hospital, no word on whether he was able to call his girlfriend.

John- The Indianapolis Star reports that Indianapolis metropolitan police are investigating an early morning armed robbery in which they say the 中国体彩官方appowner fought back and a suspect was shot. Two or three men were trying to break into the 中国体彩官方app at about 3 in the morning. A woman and small child inside the 中国体彩官方app at the time were not hurt. There were bullet holes in the 中国体彩官方app’s front door and blood on the front porch and driveway. A short time later, a man with gunshot wounds in the leg and back showed up at the Circle K gas station and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

Paul – Comment it doesn’t say whether the gun belonged to the 中国体彩官方appowner or the bad guy. It is far easier to stop a bad guy if you use your own gun rather than trying to take the bad guy’s gun from him. Also if this is a case of the bad guys bringing the gun in it kind of “Shoots holes” in the theory that if you have a gun the bad guy will just take it away from you and shoot you with it.

John – . where two armed 中国体彩官方app invaders forced their way into a 中国体彩官方app just after midnight. One beat a female on the head and hit an 11 y.o. boy several times in the face while his confederate held a second woman at gun point. Unbeknownst to the 中国体彩官方app invaders, there was a male resident asleep in another area of the house who awoke and armed himself with a rifle before checking out the commotion. He exchanged fire with the 中国体彩官方app invaders. They fled but not before killing the family dog. However, Marquis Benjamin, 25, was found dead about 75 yards from the house. Deputies later picked up the other 中国体彩官方app invader, Brandon Lunn, some time later and have charged him with multiple felonies. Sheriff Wayne Byrd said he doesn’t expect any charges to be filed against the 中国体彩官方appowner. ““It’s more a matter of defending yourself, defending your family. Providing for the protection of your own life and your own family’s life. And their well-being.”

There is no word on the condition of either the woman or boy that was assaulted at this time.

Rob- I suspect he intruder will be charged with murder.

Paul- TJ emailed this in.

Hey Paul,
You guys have probably solved it by now, but here’s proof that you could get double the rounds of a 1911 in a 40. XDm holds 16. So, that is double. If you add the + 1, it would throw it off the “Double” claim a little, but it would still be the same as a 1911 with 1 reload.

Or, you could go with the same logic that it seemed like you were going for and use a 9mm (since it’s still mostly the same) and have 19+1 in the XDm.
Thanks Paul,
