Rob: And hang on! Episode 215 of the Polite Society Podcast starts right now.
Show intro music.
Personal news from each participant
Rob- Shopping for a concealed carry gun in California. The Glock 17 looks good. As I was shopping I found that the Ruger SR 22 is now off list in California. The Ruger SR9 is going off list in a few months. This is becoming the revolver state! The lines are crazy! I was at a gun store where you had to take a number to ask a question. (Now serving number 39.)
Seg 2- News
Paul- Texas has a lot of political conventions. It has conventions at the Precinct, County and State level, and Texas has 254 counties! These conventions lead up to the primary vote. Our regular co-host Rachel Malone is conducting training sessions in advance of these conventions and urging second amendment activists to attend. Someone has to expose the record of lazy legislators. There are also petitions to allow open carry and extend where licence holders may carry. Thank you, Rachel. Please give her a hand if you’re in Texas, and contact her at Texas Firearms Freedom .com
John- The citizens of Texas open carry the only way they can. A group of civil rights activists openly carried their long arms last month when two of them were arrested, but not charged. That irritated these honest gun owners. Last week they had an open carry march in Andrews, Texas, and participation doubled in size to 80 participants. No arrests were reported this time.
Rob- Staying out west, we have an update to these two stories from New Mexico that we covered a few months back, and here is a “thank you” to Mick who sent them in.
First, the good news out of New Mexico is that several gun control bills failed to pass out of the state legislature. Some made it out of committee on party line votes, but This includes a bill to block concealed carry in the capital.
Paul- The second New Mexico story is about 64-year-old David Eckert who was stopped by the Demming Police. Eckert was taken to a local hospital and subject to an involuntary cavity search and x-ray to see if he was transporting drugs. No evidence was ever found of drugs or any other illegal activity. . The suit against the Gila Regional Medical Center has not been settled. Unfortunately, several other citizens were treated this way, and no discipline or termination of the officers has not been made public.
John- You may remember an earlier report about two police officers who were holding down a mentally disturbed 90 pound high school student they had just tazed. That is when a Southport, North Carolina detective stepped between the officers and killed the teenager with a single shot to the chest. District Attorney Jon David convened a grand jury. District Attorney David said, “After I reviewed the case I found that a crime almost certainly took place. It was a ‘bad shoot’ and a grand jury agreed.” Detective Vassey has been suspended without pay.
Rob- That news you just read from North Carolina belongs in our NOT A Defensive Gun Use column!
Paul- We took this news item from our Stupid Government File, (WHIT-A-SHEK) Witaschek is charged with having a misfired shotgun shell in his DC apartment. He was prosecuted under DC’s laws outlawing all ammunition components unless they fit a gun you’ve previously registered in the district. Witaschek keeps his guns in Virginia. Spokesman for the DC attorney general claimed the dud-shotgun shell was technically operational and that Witaschek was prosecuted because he posed an ongoing and serious danger to the public. Despite that claim, the DC prosecutors downgraded charges against Witaschek to avoid a jury trial. Appearing before a judge, Witaschek still faces thousands of dollars in fines, hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal costs, and six months in jail.
John- But that doesn’t deserve a jury trial?
Rob- I know why they are prosecuting Witaschek. Most of the evidence in the case was suppressed because the police did not have a warrant for their earlier no-knock raid. DC continues to prosecute him in the hope they can get him convicted of any crime so the city can use that conviction to stop Witaschek from suing the city for unlawful entry. I hope the city fails and pays.
John- The Stupid Government file is bulging these days.
Rob- San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore has a schedule extending past September for the initial interviews for concealed carry licenses. Orange County is taking applications for November. They delay the “initial interview” since California law (Penal Code 26205) requires that permits must be processed within 90 days. The waiting list will get longer, and Sheriff Gore leaves citizens at risk while he fumbles.
Just this week, a masked gunman robbed a San Ysidro hotel at gunpoint Monday night. He struck the night clerk and threatened him with a handgun. In another part of San Diego, a masked man threatened the gas station clerk with a gun and demanded cash. He fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. There are another 180 violent crimes in San Diego each day, and the Sheriff tells us to wait.
John- There are still 30 violent crimes each day in the richest Los Angeles suburbs, and interim Sheriff John L. Scott thinks that is acceptable. Scott will wait until the courts force him to issue permits for armed self-defense in public.
Paul- There is another California story in store.
Rob: Of course there is. There is stupid, and there is California Stupid.
Someone invented what they call a “smart gun.” Sometimes the gun recognizes when it is close to an electronic watch, and it will let you fire it when you’re close to this watch. Sometimes it won’t. That is why the police don’t want it.
New Jersey has similar laws. They claim that a police officer should use “smart guns” so their weapon can’t be used against them, but the New Jersey police are not that stupid. Yes, the requirement is being appealed to the courts, but the courts are weak protection of our rights at best.
Paul- I thought the police were citizens. No?
Rob- Is it an accident that they require us to use a gun that doesn’t work, or is it on purpose?
John- California Stupid could be coming to a legislature near you.
Rob- Oh, like microstamping?
Paul – Connecticut officials have a problem on their hands. Some Connecticut gun owners registered their firearms as required by new laws. Some missed the deadline. So far state officials have ignored the 90 percent of Connecticut gun owners who did not register their guns. Are law enforcement officers going to start kicking in doors? Mike Vanderbough of the Blog Sipsy Street has posted the names, addresses and photographs of the legislators who passed the latest anti-gun bills.
Y’all stay safe out there.
John- Some lawmakers are smarter than others. A concealed carry holder in Michigan is usually prohibited from carrying at schools, churches, sporting events and restaurants that serve alcohol. A bill introduced by Michigan representative Tim Kelly to victims of domestic violence and stalking. The bill is HB 5355. Quoting Kelly, “Anyone who needs to take out a restraining order to protect themselves from violent crimes like domestic violence should be given the same rights as those who work with violent criminals. The unfortunate reality is that some violent offenders.. take advantage of a gun-free zone to inflict further pain on the victim.”
Rob: Yep, that makes Tim Kelly smarter than my California legislators.
Rob- Ukraine’s Interior Minister, That attitude by a government official explains why Ukraine’s citizens would not back down and recently overthrew their government. My thought has always been that the individuals right to own a weapon ought only to be limited by their financial situation. You should be able to own anything you can afford all the way from a 10-22 to an F-22. Finland allows citizens to own their own anti-tank guns.
John- Now that they deposed Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych (YAN UH KO VITCH) and are seeking him for warcrimes, They said Over 70 people died during protests this last week, and amateur videos showed snipers shooting at unarmed protesters.
Quotes from the protesters,
“People should have the right to bear arms, which will be put in written into the Constitution.”
“Authorities should not, and will not, be stronger than the people!”
“Armed people are treated with respect!”
Paul : These Ukrainians figured out why we have a second amendment here in the US.
Rob: I’ve always wondered what a trained SWAT sniper would do if he saw police shooting first aid worker and other civilians.
Paul: Our Gun Quote today is in honor of Ukraine and Venezuela- ”They tell us that we are weak and unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be when we are totally disarmed, and when a British guard shall be stationed in every house? Three million people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us.”
Hang on everybody, we’ll be right back after this

The victim was bitten on her arms and legs. She returned 中国体彩官方app after a few hours of medical treatment. The unidentified stranger kept walking.
The dog’s owner said the man who shot her dog did the right thing. Police said the man who shot the dog didn’t do anything wrong and would not be charged with a crime.
Rob: Doing the same thing in Washington DC makes you a criminal.
Paul DGU- Detroit has two legged predators. A Detroit woman arrived 中国体彩官方app just after midnight. Two carjackers pointed a gun at her head as she walked to her front door. He died at the scene.

John DGU- A burglar broke a window to enter a Dyersburg, Tennessee apartment, but got more than he intended. Hearing his apartment being broken into, Police found Mr. Miles a short distance from the apartment complex, the same complex where he is also lived. Miles was transported to a Memphis hospital where he was treated for the non-life threatening gunshot wound and released into police custody. Miles is now charged with aggravated burglary, but he also has pending domestic violence charges.
Another apartment resident said it was a good example for others, “Don’t break into houses, because you could get shot like that.” The District Attorney’s office said charges would not be filed against the resident who defended his 中国体彩官方app.
Rob DGU- A 中国体彩官方appowner is safe and an armed robber is in jail. A 中国体彩官方appowner in western Washington was in his garage with a friend working on a car. That is when two masked men entered the garage and tried to rob them at gunpoint. The 中国体彩官方appowner’s friend retrieved a gun from his car and The other thief fled. After police arrived, the wounded criminal was transported to a local medical center with serious injuries.
Paul DGU- An 11-year-old girl The female cougar was about 4 years old and weighed about 50 pounds, or half of what it should weigh. It was the third cougar killed in a week in the area just outside Twisp.
The children’s father, Tom White, had chased the cougar away from their calves twice before. The next day, his son went out to feed the dogs and was returning 中国体彩官方app when the cougar followed to the door. The 11 year old had a hunting tag to shoot the cougar.
