Seg 1- Catch up
Toby: My dad came out of surgery. Thank you for your prayers. Melisa bought you a computer interface for his Chronograph and a 1911 blue gun for training. He also got the Sig Sauer 1911 chambered in 22 cal. It shoots well. Also a 22 conversion for his AR. My Desert Eagle might be coming back. It is chambered in 50 action express, so might convert to 44 magnum.

Rob: I took another family shooting out in the desert. It was my family plus a dad, his daughter aged 12, and his son age 11. I shot another IDPA match. IDPA if you’re really good. A friend received some threatening phone calls, so she came over for some discussion about self defense and how she could respond. Lights, locks and cameras first. Firearms second.

Tom: I did not get a handgun for Christmas, but I did get a 410/22 folding rifle. It is a backpack gun with a beautiful walnut stock. I received a GoPro camera and electronic hearing protection along with Massad Ayoob’s book, “the truth about self-protection”. Also received a cleverly built range bag/ back pack. I gave my mom a security camera and my dad a pistol. Check our facebook page for pictures of our gun gifts.

Paul: Spent Christmas on the road earning a bonus so we can go to SHOT show. Nothing earth shattering, getting ready for SHOT show, if it is possible I am even more excited about SHOT this year than last. In doing research for the show ran across a leak that the new Glock is supposedly a single stack .380 that is TINY! From the pics I have seen it is only just double the size of a Zippo lighter. I am going to withhold judgement until I can shoot the thing at SHOT show, but I am not thinking I am going to be impressed.

Wondering why we aren’t getting more calls to the voicemail line, that number is 605-215-1438. By the way the number is 605-215-1438. Did I mention that the number is 605-215-1438?

Segment 2- NEWS

Rob – South Carolina Governor for Christmas, the Beretta Px4 Storm. This caused several of the anti-gun crowd to lose bladder and bowel control when they said online that they hopes Governor Haley uses the gun to shoot one of her family members. That passes for reasoned debate with gun haters.

Toby – A washed out Ohio lawmaker who voted against the human right of self-defense now Our listeners in Ohio should belong to the Buckeye Firearms Association and receive their e-mail updates.

Paul – Musician Toby Keith in Woodbridge, Va. I’m sure that will play to some of the Washington DC bureaucrats living in northern Virginia, but it will probably keep some Virginia gun owners from entering his business. Please let us know if you’re in the area and chose to take your group to another place to eat because of Keith’s no-guns policy.

Tom – Concealed carry classes in Illinois have begun. The For example, you can not carry at a large public gathering, but you could stand outside the crowd, or walk through an outdoor art exhibit as long as you did not stop. The litigation is only beginning.

Rob – When Federal land-use-fees stopped in Josephine County, Oregon, the sheriff’s office effectively closed. led by a retired law enforcement officer. One commenter said they like the idea since they know the citizens will follow the law.

Toby – A reminder that we have a legal system, not a justice system. A Pennsylvania state trooper was treated for depression seven years ago. The trooper’s doctor cleared him to return to work. due to his history of mental health treatment. The feds refuses to return his right of self-defense.

Paul – In still gun free Chicago, one person was shot dead and seven wounded on Christmas day. These events vary from murder to multiple drive by shootings. Another example that

Tom – Connecticut gun owners waited in line as new laws take effect in 2014. Elections have consequences, and there are jobs in other states.

Rob – Also in Connecticut, Economist Mark Gius from Quinnipiac University published a new study titled The study determined the effect of state assault weapons bans and concealed weapons laws on the murder rates from 1980 to 2009. Restrictive states had higher gun-related murder rates than other states, and assault weapons bans were ineffective.

Toby – Our third story from Connecticut, The officer shot himself in the leg while sitting at a local bagel shop. Reports say the gun was not his service weapon. Demonstrators say the officer should have been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment. “Had that been me, my permit would have been revoked, my firearms would have been seized, and I would have been arrested on the spot.”

While I’m sorry the officer was injured, but there certainly appears to be two separate firearms laws for law enforcement and for civilians.

Paul – A bill filed and ready when the Missouri Senate returns to session would This is an extension of the medical theory of gun violence which says we need to identify and quarantine gun owners. Fortunately, the same bill proposed by the same democrat Senator did not advance in prior years. Thank you to Greg from, Bremmerton for sending this link via email.

Tom – Also sent in from listener Greg in Bremmerton, AK 47 inventor Mikhail Kalashnikov dies aged 97.

Tom – DGU1- man says he was forced to fatally shoot his 35-year-old son after his son turned from beating his own wife to attacking him. The shooting took place at the 中国体彩官方app of the father, 67-year-old Billy Wilkey, at 723 County Road 2061, near Hardin… Authorities say that Friday afternoon, Wilkey’s son, Flint and his wife got into an argument at their 中国体彩官方app. To avoid further trouble, the wife went to the 中国体彩官方app of her father-in-law. The younger Wilkey followed. They got into another argument. Flint Wilkey left and then came back again. This time, the altercation got physical. According to witnesses, Flint hit his wife with his fist and pulled her hair. He pulled his wife outside and tried to get her into his truck. Billy Wilkey tried to stop his son from beating his wife, when he says the younger Flint turned on him. The elder Wilkey fired one shot from a 9mm handgun, which struck his son.

Rob- DGU 2- Alabama Sheriff’s Office, a 中国体彩官方appowner caught two men stealing scrap metal from his property Friday afternoon and confronted them with his rifle. Deputies said Aaron Michael Lawson, 23, of Gurley, approached the 中国体彩官方appowner and said he would kill him. The 中国体彩官方appowner shot Lawson once in the groin, and deputies said Lawson and the other suspect left the scene. Lawson was arrested after having surgery at Huntsville Hospital. Deputies said they arrested the other suspect, Paul Curtis Reed, 25, of Gurley a short time after the incident

Paul- DGU 3 – Apparently, a 39 year old man forced his way at gunpoint into a 中国体彩官方app off Wren Road in Anderson county, South Carolina. The assailant put the female 中国体彩官方appowner in a choke hold. The 78 year old male 中国体彩官方appowner shot the suspect in the chest and the 中国体彩官方appowner was shot in the stomach. The suspect fled, but later died in The 中国体彩官方appowner is in stable condition. A background check of the suspect revealed a criminal record including violent crimes and drugs, and that the suspect was released from prison earlier this year.

Tom- – An Akron man whom police said was held at gunpoint until officers arrived to make an arrest has been charged with burglary. Monte T. Harris, 24, of Bettie Street, was booked into the Summit County [OH] Jail. He was scheduled for an initial appearance Monday in Akron Municipal Court. Police said two residents were awakened about 3 a.m. Sunday when a man climbed through the kitchen window of their Akron 中国体彩官方app. The male resident then fired a shot at the suspect inside the house. The suspect ran down into the basement, where the resident held him at gunpoint until Akron police responded.

It seems a customer dropped his firearm at a North Carolina restaurant. It went off when it hit the floor. The pocket pistol doesn’t appear to be in any holster. If it was in a holster, it wasn’t a good one. Clearly the owner was negligent in his gun handling. Was this weapon faulty? I don’t know. Was there a safety on the weapon? Was a safety engaged? Did the gun break? These are all good questions but preventable with a quality holster. This black eye falls squarely on the imbecile gun owner and unfortunately on the rest of us.

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — Kernersville Police say they are investigating after . Officers said they responded to Palenque Mexican Restaurant on North Main Street at 1:18 p.m. Video from the restaurant showed a man attempting to pay at the register when he dropped a handgun and it discharged. Police told WFMY News 2 the round from the gun struck the counter at the register, then a half wall before entering the ceiling. No one was injured during the incident. The case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Kernersville Police December 28th 2013.

At the same time and place, members of the pro-rights group Come and Take It Texas from citizens off the street so the firearms could be donated to needy individuals in the Safe Mother program. Safe Mothers trains disadvantaged women to use handguns for self-defense.

Tom- The city of Seattle was ordered to pay over failure to release public records relating to Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn’s January gun buyback. The settlement includes an apology by the mayor’s office’s. During some of these buybacks, pro-gun groups outbid the cops for the more desirable firearms.

Rob- The US department of the interior Department officials say the administration is concerned about the potential clash between gun owners and encroaching urban populations who like to use same land for hiking and dog walking. “It’s not so much a safety issue [emphasis added]. It’s a social conflict issue,” said Frank Jenks, a natural resource specialist with Interior’s Bureau of Land Management, which oversees 245 million acres. He adds that urbanites “freak out” when they hear shooting on public lands. Lets be honest that it is really a social conflict issue with the Obama administration paying off its anti-gun special interests. We will let you know who to call sa we learn more.

Paul- A national disability rights group on Friday ripped the federal department of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for They demanded that U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder take immediate action to stop the practice. In particular, an agent persuaded and paid a mentally disabled man to get a tattoo on his neck of the ATF false storefront’s logo, a squid smoking a joint, a false store used to set up illegal gun purchases. The ATF later charged the mentally disabled man with violating gun laws.

Tom- Illinois certified firearms instructors . The Illinois State Police opened the application process to allow instructors to apply before the January 5th opening date. State police are using the instructors to test the application system. Right now there are about 2,000 certified instructors listed on the concealed carry website. Authorities expect the website to process more than 400,000 applications in 2014.

Rob- Virginia Delegate Mark Cole introduced a bill allowing possession of a stun weapon, knife or firearm on private or religious school property. Our listeners in Virginia should contact their state delegates and support Cole’s bill.

Paul- In New Hampshire politics, plan to run for Senate in New Hampshire. Brown was briefly the Senator from Massachusetts. Chanting “Down with Brown”, the protesters wore hunters orange and outnumbered the activists who coughed up $50 each at the Brown fundraiser. The protesters singled out Brown’s votes for a federal assault weapons ban, Brown’s opposition to a national conceal-and-carry law, and his support from former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. It looks like Senator Brown could have pandered to Massachusetts voters or New Hampshire voters, but not both. Forty-four percent of New Hampshire households have at least one gun. Seg 3 Interview with Rick Ector
Rick Ector is a Veteran of the US Air Force and earned an engineering degree from Wayne State University. Rick also lives in Detroit and was robbed in his backyard. That changed his life and changed his career. He started Rick’s Firearms Academy. Now he teaches the certification class for the Michigan Concealed Pistol License. Rick instructs and matches first-time handgun buyers with the right gun. Rick Ector, welcome to the Politics and Guns Podcast.

What else should our listeners know about you?

What are the common mistakes you see when people consider armed self-defense? They buy the wrong gun or are sold the wrong gun! They also buy the wrong equpment to fit their needs. It may be a great gun, but it doesn’t fit their hands at all and is the wrong firearm for their purpose!

How many students have attended your classes? About 3000.

I checked your website and you have a class coming up in January with Terry Johnson. What is that class about? Going to the range is fun. Learning the laws are essential. This class is about Michigan’s gun laws.

How do people contact you?

This is the POLITICS and Guns podcast. You’ve commented on Detroit and Michigan politics where they concern the right of self-defense. For example, you met an unfortunate Michigan Senator who lost his memory and you helped him remember how he voted against our right of self-defense. My question for you, Rick, is did you jump into politics or were you pushed?
It was a self-defense situation and I had to comment on politics because I value the human right of self-defense.

Rick’s answer to gun buy-backs. “L.E.F.T.” Law Enforcement Firearms Transfers. They have collectors on scene who will out bid the LEFT.

Rob- A DeKalb Georga man received a call from his 中国体彩官方app security system while he was on his way 中国体彩官方app for lunch. The 中国体彩官方appowner called 911 when he walked around the back of the residence and saw three people standing inside. The three intruders exited the rear of his 中国体彩官方app and ran toward him. While being rushed, The remaining two suspects fled on foot.

Paul- We have another story of an alarm system stopping a break in, even though the 中国体彩官方appowner was miles away. At 5 AM yesterday morning, Justin Blair and Jimmy Walker kicked in the door of a 中国体彩官方app in Christian, West Virginia. The 中国体彩官方appowners were out of town for the holidays but received a call as their security alarm went off. The 中国体彩官方appowner called a relative, who investigated with gun in hand. The relative assumed the house was empty, but saw two intruders and identified them as local residents. Walker was shot in the chest. The police arrived and put both suspects into a police car where Blair kicked out a window and ran. Walker is in the local hospital and Blair is in jail.

Subject : New York Triggers

I few episodes ago you guys were talking about the incident in NY where the cops accidently shot bystanders. I feel the triggers they use played a pretty decent role. I recently became a Glock Armorer, and this is what I learned. There are 2 different NY triggers made by Glock. While I am not sure as to which one they use now, they have the NY1 which is 8lbs and the NY2 which is 11 lbs. The design is completely different than a regular trigger spring. The reason they use them (I was told) is that NYC replaced the revolver with the Glock as their service pistol in the 80’s. They wanted a trigger that was similar, so officers did not accidently shoot anyone with a “light” trigger.

In the (Armorers) class, we installed both the triggers in a G17, and believe me, it is just like shooting a double action revolver. To be honest, I was thinking about installing one in my G19 strictly for training purposes. If I can shoot straight with a 11 pound trigger, switching back to by 2 pound competition trigger should be a breeze.
What are your thoughts?

Sticks, thumbs up on that Savage 24. My first gun was a 24DL , .22/20 guage. Very tight choke and accurate .22. I could shoot .22 shorts and no suppressor needed. I think the hammer makes more noise than the actual shot. FWIW, I was in the 7th grade, 1964ish. My father paid more for it new than you stole yours for!

Paul, listen to the end of this episode. I could swear you said prevention of firearm ownership instead or preservation. (JPFO) But then my hearing isn’t that good. Amazing what a box of .357s shot back in my young and stupid days without hearing protection will do.

I was kind of dismayed on how it seems that Glen Tate has given up on the system. I thought I was the only one. I still vote but see no real hope. We can’t even get control of our schools, so how can we hope to change much in the larger scheme. That not saying I’m not still swinging but I kind of feel like I’m in in the ring against both Ali and Marciano at the same time.
Enjoyed the show as usual. It it actually the first on my list when checking for new episodes.

Paul: Last September, the CEO of Starbucks asked that people refrain from bringing guns into their stores. Well someone forgot to read the memo. A man described as in his mid 20s, 6 foot to 6-2, walked into a Colorado Springs Starbucks last Sunday. The man produced a gun and demanded cash. He left when the clerk handed him the cash from the register.

Tom: CHILLICOTHE, OH The American Drug War claimed another casualty while sitting on a couch at 中国体彩官方app. She was shot by an incompetent police officer, who fired his weapon through an exterior wall prior to raiding the 中国体彩官方app. At about 10:30 p.m. on December 11th, a group of cops prepared to break in and capture people for drug possession. One of the officers, Sgt. You or I would be in jail for this. The four rules apply all the time.

Rob: News Article sent to us from Chris on Facebook
1750 carry-on bags were pulled from U.S. airports this year often loaded, according to the Transportation Security Agency. John Pistole, the TSA administrator, said that amounted to an average of about five weapons a day uncovered by screeners. Many of those guns are loaded. “There’s a procedure for anybody who wants to transport a gun on an airplane to declare the gun in checked bag, rather than through carry-on. You can’t take it in the cabin of the aircraft. … You have to declare it to the airline and have to have it unloaded. You have to have it in a locked solid container in your checked bag,” Pistole said.

The number of guns confiscated by the TSA has skyrocketed from 660 in 2005 to double that in 2011 – and nearly triple that in 2013. The TSA said the increase was possibly tied to the fact that the number of weapons Americans carry continues to rise, up 16 million last year alone.

Airports in Atlanta and Dallas saw the most confiscated guns. None of the weapons confiscated in 2013 was intended to be used on a plane. Pistole said the travelers found with weapons in their carry-on baggage were not terrorists or people trying to do harm. “It’s just a matter of people not thinking about what they’re carrying. … These are people who have simply forgotten and go through [security checks] and then realize their mistake,” Pistole said…

Fliers found with weapons in their carry-on bags faced possible fines and arrest and a forfeiture of their guns. “Our request is that before you stop and think of what you’re packing and then to travel accordingly.”

Most of us are doing it right. About .01 percent of us are doing it wrong.
Paul: Use to protect your luggage.

Paul: If you want to take guns out of the hands of dangerous criminals (you know, the ones actually using their guns to commit crimes) a gun buy back event is about the worst possible idea. And the people running this latest gun buyback even admitted that they didn’t expect any criminals to turn their guns in. The Living Faith Christian Center in Baton Rouge hosted the gun buyback that resulted in 71 handguns, shotguns, and rifles being turned in for $4,200 worth of gas cards with no questions asked. But ONLY legal guns would be eligible for the $50 Circle K gas cards as illegal guns would be refused. East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said, “We’re not thinking gangsters will turn in their guns.”

Rob: Sent to us from Chris on Facebook- A Tyson foods employee in Monroe North Carolina was assaulted as he sat in his car. The employee got off work at around 5:15 in the morning when two strangers approached his car in the employee parking lot. The two thieves opened the car door and hit the employee in the head several times with a firearm, and tried to drag him from the car. The employee retrieved his own gun and . The robbers ran. The victim retrieved their weapon and called police. Both robbers were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Monroe Police said the employee acted in self defense and no charges will be filed.

Paul: Fort Worth, Texas police responded to a robbery that ended with the robber being shot. The thief walked into the Smoking Dragon Gift Shoppe at about 7pm Saturday and demanded money while showing a gun to the stove clerk. The robber ran off but was was found nearby. The thief was taken to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Hey, Tom, a tobacco shop is another cash business.

Tom: We have a contrast between these two stories from New Jersey. Early Saturday morning, who attempted to carjacked him as the officer was putting air in his tires at a gas station. Marcus Brent, 19 and also from Newark, was then found at University Hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot wound and was taken into custody.

On Sunday night, a man was shot and killed as he walked with his wife to their car in the Short Hills Mall. The two assailants fled in the stolen car which was later recovered in Newark. The man was killed by a gunshot to the head.. and by politicians and law enforcement officers who deny New Jersey citizens the right of self defense.

Rob: This story is unusual in how it was covered by the local news in Minneapolis. Back on December 10th, a contractor was working in a vacant 中国体彩官方app when a robber walked in through the open door. The thief picked up a crowbar and threatened the contractor. The contractor was The robber fled with no shots fired.

What is unusual is that the news article goes on to quote a National Research Council report saying that firearms are used as many as 3 million times each year. The article went on to say that Minnesota law requires reporting defensive gun use, but that this crime was only reported as an attempted robbery so the statistics under-report self-defense incidents. I say thank you to KSTP for your honest reporting.

Paul: Also in Minneapolis, an armed civilian drew his firearm after he saw two armed two thugs banging on the windows of his corner market. The thugs saw the armed citizen and ran. When the civilian approached the store, he saw the store owner clutching his head with a nasty head wound. The two thugs had tried to rob the store but the store owner pushed them outside and locked the door. The good Samaritan completed the 911 call. Again, there were no shots fired. Thank goodness for Minnesota shall issue, but does this count as a defensive gun use under Minnesota law?

A Cleveland Ohio 中国体彩官方appowner was beaten before he recovered his gun and shot the two robbers.

Maybe now the victim will realize the importance of carrying your weapon. Occasionally I find my wife’s EDC gun in the safe. I politely remind her the only thing safe is the gun. CCW doesn’t help if we don’t carry. We also need training. I speculate perhaps a person aware of their environment may have noticed two men in the driveway. I hope I never experience needing my weapon and not having it.

Paul: WTVG (ABC Toledo) reported recently that a man defended himself and his girlfriend when a man forced his way through a window in an attempted 中国体彩官方app invasion.
From the :

A Toledo man is recovering after he was shot, possibly during an attempted 中国体彩官方app invasion, Thursday morning. Antione Garrett told police he and his girlfriend woke up to the sound of someone breaking into their 中国体彩官方app. He told investigators, when the suspect came in through a window, Garret fired a handgun at him multiple times, and the crook took off. The robber was taken to Toledo Hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

Under Ohio’s Castle Doctrine law, which took effect in 2008, if someone unlawfully enters or attempts to enter the owner’s occupied 中国体彩官方app or temporary habitation, or occupied car, citizens have an initial presumption that they may act in self defense.

Rob: DGU with 37 shots fired! — Police say an attempted robbery turned deadly when the victim pulled out a gun and opened fire on the suspect. The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. with 37 shots fired Tuesday when an armed man attempted to rob two men who were walking to their car. One robbery target grabbed his gun and a shootout ensued that saw 37 shots fired.
Police say two accomplices of the stickup man started shooting as well before fleeing. Two weapons were recovered at the scene overnight, and late today police found a third handgun believed to have been used during the wild shootout. The robbery victim, 26-year-old Khalif Murray, was critically wounded and remains hospitalized in critical condition. The initial robber was mortally wounded, having been shot in the head, stomach and back. He is identified as 25-year-old Broderick Howard, who is known to police with pinches including firearms violations dating back to 2006. Howard’s two accomplices remain at large. Multiple surveillance cameras in the neighborhood did not yield pictures that have helped detectives.

Subject 2013 Darwin Awards (But I think the winner is a repeat)

There are a couple gun entries here. One to shake your heads at and one to laugh about.
You’ve been waiting for them with bated breath, so without further ado, here are the 2013 Darwin Awards:

Eighth Place In Detroit, a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an 18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys.

Seventh Place A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who “totally zoned when he ran”, accidentally jogged off a 100-foot high cliff on his daily run.

Sixth Place While at the beach, Daniel Jones, 21, dug an 8 foot hole for protection from the wind and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom, when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach used their hands and shovels trying to get him out but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Fifth Place Santiago Alvarado, 24, was killed as he fell through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth to keep his hands free rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor.

Fourth Place Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger.

Third Place After stepping around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door, a man walked into H&J Leather & Firearms intent on robbing the store. The shop was full of customers and a uniformed officer was standing at the counter. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol. The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, and several customers also drew their guns and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt.

HONORABLE MENTION Paul Stiller, 47, and his wife Bonnie were bored just driving around at 2 A.M. so they lit a quarter stick of dynamite to toss out the window to see what would happen. Apparently they failed to notice that the window was closed.

RUNNER UP Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from a local bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more excited and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge, they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope. Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman’s cable lay nearby. They secured one end around Bingham’s leg and then tied the other to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. Bingham’s foot was never located.

AND THE WINNER IS…. Zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt ( Paderborn, Germany ) fed his constipated elephant 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged-up pachyderm finally got relief. Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded. The sheer force of the elephant’s unexpected defecation knocked Mr. Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock as the elephant continued to evacuate 200 pounds of dung on top of him. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves… ‘Stuff happens’

BAXTERS CORNER, NEW BRUNSWICK — RCMP in New Brunswick say no charges will be laid in a shooting that killed a man late last year. The Mounties say the Crown has determined there is no likelihood of conviction in Ryan Firlotte’s death because it can be argued he was shot in self-defence. Three men, including the 31-year-old victim, were wounded after shots were fired at a vehicle on Nov. 10, 2012, in Baxters Corner, about 26 kilometres northeast of Saint John. Police say the shooting occurred during an altercation with a 35-year-old man who had been assaulted earlier that day in the Saint John area. All of the men were known to each other. The Mounties recommended that prosecutors consider charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal negligence. But they say the Crown decided not to proceed with any charges after reviewing case law. RCMP say they agree with the Crown’s decision and their investigation is now complete.

Tom: in Centennial, Colorado. A high school student legally bought a shotgun and then brought the gun onto school grounds. Colorado politicians told us that couldn’t happen once they passed their new gun laws. Within seconds, an armed school resource officer had the student in his sights and the student took his own life. If you remember, the anti-gun pundits told us that armed safety officers at school were useless and even dangerous. The student was a committed anti-gun liberal and had a grudge against a teacher. Two others were injured.

Toby: Also in Colorado, a judge ordered Colorado Springs police to a man they arrested for legally carrying his weapon in public. James Sorensen sued and won after he was improperly arrested at a festival in July, one day after the Aurora shooting occurred. The entire incident was caught on camera. The officer who disarmed Sorensen told him to get a lawyer, that’s exactly what Sorensen did. The police blamed improper training for the arrest.

Rob: And now on to Florida. Florida’s first district court of appeals had an unusual ruling before a panel of all 15 of the district’s judges. The judges ruled that Florida universities They ruled the University restricted a fundamental, constitutional right to keep and bear arms for self-defense by doing so.

Tom: Here is some more good legislation- Two Republican Ohio legislators Our listeners in Ohio should give their support. The Ohio Association of Police Chiefs declined to take a position. Maybe you should call your local police chief too.

Paul: A bit of bad news- In the year after the Newtown Connecticut murders, the anti-gun advocates spent over 14 million dollars on lobbying and advertising, The bad guys have Bloomberg and Hollywood. Where are our billionaires for liberty?

From the Un-Named listener in the Russian Federation
Subject: Hello from the Russian Federation
Hey Fellas!
I wanted to say hello as a fairly recent listener to your podcast. Love the show and appreciate the gun talk.
A little background on why I am in Russia. I work for one of the largest engineering, construction and procurement contractors in the world. And our client is one of the largest companies in the world. I engineer/design oil production facilities all around the globe. I recently (August) left Iraq where I spent over 2 years. Wherever we went we were under the protection of private security companies. Mostly ex-British special forces and Para-regiment soldiers. They carried AK-47 and 74’s and CZ 9mm pistols. Body armor and Kevlar helmets, B6 armored vehicles always. In the summer the hottest I experienced was 140 Fahrenheit. Needless to say, extreme conditions.
Being ex-military myself I got to be pretty tight with security forces and we discussed firearms and shootouts at length. (to be clear, I was never involved in a firefight). Since I am a firearms enthusiast, I was curious as to what these Brits had to say about what weapons they preferred and would ask each team what they preferred. With very few exceptions, they would have preferred to carry the M4 over the AK. I think only one team leader ever said he would have preferred the AK. I found that interesting…You see Brits are not from a firearm culture and have not been raised discussing what everyone else says in better. Most had never even held a weapon until they entered military service. When pressed on a sidearm caliber, .45 ACP. 9mm is a toy, especially with ball ammo. “couldn’t stop my 90 year old grandmum with a full mag” one big fella joked.
I could write some more about being on the M-1 Abrams when I was in the Army, but I’ll save that for another day.
I would appreciate it if you would not use my name as I would not like to advertise the fact that I am away from my family. Keep up the good work!
Name redacted at the request of the listener… Minnesota boy in Russia!
PS, I have talked to dozens of ex-Iraq military about chemical weapons also. I was pretty surprised about what I heard. Not what you will hear on the TV that’s for sure!

Sandy Hook and the Body Count of Gun Control

A guest post by co-host Rob Morse.

December 14 is the anniversary of the murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. We could talk about effective measures to stop public violence, but that talks to your head. The battle is for your heart, and Big-government media like the Washington Post wants everyone to trot out their I have another idea. I have a list of people harmed because they were denied a firearm. I’ll go first because I’ve had enough!

knife_attack2012-wideMy college girlfriend was raped after her attacker broke into her apartment and held a knife to her throat. Monica couldn’t have a gun for self-defense because she lived in Chicago, and Chicago had very strict gun control laws. Gun control is the theory that it is better for a 130 pound woman to be raped by a drug addict twice her size than risk injuring a rapist. That stupid theory may work for a Chicago politician who has his own security detail, but my friend Monica paid the price.

Monica had to leave Illinois, and she moved to a state where she could defend herself.

mill valley policeSome victims can’t run away. Let me tell you about a girl named Anne. She was a family friend and was 中国体彩官方app from college. She sat in a quiet park near Mill Valley, California when she was murdered. She was murdered by a mentally ill man who brought a gun into a gun-free zone and shot her. Of course Anne obeyed California gun laws, so she wasn’t armed. There was no one to help her when she was attacked and murdered. The police didn’t find her body for hours.

That is the murderous insanity of gun prohibition! We pretend that crazy people and criminals will obey gun laws while people like Anne are disarmed.. and murdered. I named my daughter Anne, so this stays personal for me.

Do we need more names and more examples like Monica and Anne? We are not talking about an untried theory, or even a theory that worked well in other countries. Gun prohibition in the United States started after the civil war to disarm newly freed black men and women. Gun prohibition was a bloody success at suppressing freedom. The control freaks recently repackaged gun prohibition and re-branded it as gun control, crime control or gun safety regulations. It failed as prohibition always fails, and I’ve named a few of the victims to prove it.

How many more names will it take to convince you? How many more victims will you stand for? My friends lived that experiment. I can’t ignore what has happened to them. The Washington post may forget these victims, but please don’t ignore what has happened to your friends.

Now it is your turn. What stories do you have?

The New York City Police Department has , weapons made illegal by New York City’s preemptive gun laws. These laws made long guns illegal if they hold over 5 rounds. Gun owners can turn in their guns, leave New York City, or sell the guns outside New York City. Have any of our listeners received a Bloomberg love letter yet? Can anyone remember when registering a long gun prevented a crime?

Also from the big apple- The New York Police Department sent two detectives to Kenya to collect . They learned there were only four attackers. The attackers never fired automatic weapons. They had a few grenades. They killed 67, wounded over 200, and slipped out of the mall and escaped at night after 18 hours in the mall. The responding Kenyan military shot two SWAT officers by mistake, killing the commander of the Nairobi SWAT unit. The lessons learned for civilians are to leave the building rather than hide in place.. and carry your gun if you can and shoot on the move.

Paul and Rob,

Listening to episode 187, your talk about private schools having rules about no guns allowed and their liability got me doing some searching. I thought you would like to see the policy that General Motors has in place for all their facilities. This applies to anyone onsite (employees, contract workers, suppliers, even UAW) despite the fact that not everyone has access to, or is given, this policy to read it.

Global Security

(Policy GS1)

IX. Sub-Policy GS1.3 – Security

The Security Section of the General Motors Global Security Manual defines and describes the

security requirements for all General Motors locations.

C. Guns, Dangerous Devices and Other Weapons

In support of the General Motors Workplace Violence Prevention policy, General Motors will not tolerate the possession of guns, dangerous devices, or other weapons while on company property including company parking lots. The only exception to this policy involves security personnel carrying firearms in situations as noted in the Security Section, Chapter 1 of the General Motors Global Security Manual, law enforcement personnel and armed guards transporting money on and off the premises, or where General Motors posts or otherwise communicates a different local policy (e.g., where General Motors believes this policy conflicts with a local law). Misuse of firearms by personnel authorized to carry must be reported to security.

Though employees may legally own and carry weapons for personal reasons such as hunting or personal protection, it remains a violation of the policy to have weapons of any kind on General Motors property, even when they are kept in employees’ personal vehicles. Weapons are not allowed in company vehicles while on company property or while engaged in work-related activities. Weapons may not be carried to work-related events even if an authority having jurisdiction has issued a permit to carry or conceal the weapon. Violation of this policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including discharge.

Application of this policy does not preclude assigned drivers of company vehicles from the lawful possession of firearms in the vehicle when they are not on General Motors property or otherwise engaged in work-related activities. The term ‘dangerous devices’ includes any device, the possession of, which reflects an intent and capability of the possessor to use the device to inflict personal injury, whether under circumstances of assault or self-defense.

This not only includes martial arts devices and other objects generally recognized as being weapons, but also would include otherwise innocuous devices that are possessed in such a manner as to reflect the prohibited purpose and capability, such as, for example a tire-iron, lead pipe or baseball bat stored beneath a vehicle’s driver seat.

It is great that they say this is supposed to prevent workplace violence, but we all know it won’t. Since the security that actually walks around, at least two of, the main Detroit area campuses don’t carry guns it isn’t really going to stop anything. And with at least 2 attacks within a block of the global headquarters at the Ren Cen this year, I’m hoping that this will change. But considering my “tire thumper” is even considered a no-no to them I doubt it. My pepper spray probably isn’t even allowed since self-defense items are prohibited. Of course they won’t take responsibility if anything happens to some on premises, let alone to or from work. I almost wish something would happen to someone so they can try and sue GM for taking away their 2nd amendment rights of personal protection while travelling to and from work.

When you started talking about truck guns with Ben Branham my first thought was the .40 Glock you carry Paul. And that had me asking, how do you carry that in the truck? I can’t get comfortable with a gun on my hip when I am sitting down. I’ve tried multiple holsters (Black Mamba CE, Cross Breed Super Tuck, even a couple OWB) and switched from a double stack .40 M&P to a single stack 9mm Kahr. Driving a rig all day you must be one really tough guy.

Paul- My Glock 22 is carried in a Black Momba CE at the 2:30 to 3 o’clock position.

Rob- Jeremy, I’m as eager as you are to hear how Paul does it. I’m in San Diego where the military went to drop-leg holsters for two reasons. First, the mechanized infantry had problems sitting down while carrying a sidearm, and second they had trouble with standard holsters while wearing body armor. It is hard for civilians to wear a drop-leg holster and call it concealed.

For Rob, here are a couple of local gun groups I belong to. So you can stop the whining. J

Michigan Gun Owners (MGO)

Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO)

Rob- Jeremy, we will add both your Michigan groups to our close-of-show shoutouts. MGO and MCRGO go to the head of the line!

Keep up the great work. I just downloaded the app through Amazon, but since I use Podcast Addict to listen to the show I don’t know if I will use it. But I’ll support the show none the less.

Thanks again Paul, I can’t wait for my patch to get here. I’ll be sure to post some pics up on facebook when it get here. Since I am already typing this e-mail I did have a question for any of you guys. I am looking for a holster recommendation. I have a G23 with a TLR-1 light and I am looking for an OWB holster. I have already checked with Jason Christensen a few months ago, and he did not have a Sidewinder in that setup. I have a Black Mamba, and I love it just looking for a OWB rig. Are there any other makers you guys would recommend, or should I just keep bugging Jason till he build one? Thanks for any input you can give, and for the swag.

It appears we, along with countless others (including Mississippi Gun News), may well have been “had” regarding yesterday’s item about the ““!

A poster on the Forums.Officer.com apparently did some digging and it seems the letter was only sent to one person, for reasons involving his specific permit. The letter was then supposedly altered to appear as something different. It had been accepted that parts of that letter had been officially redacted. Our thanks to a JPFO member who found this and notified us about it.

It’s usually easier to defend yourself and your family from a threat if you already have a gun. However, a Louisiana family still managed to defend themselves using their assailant’s own gun against him. According to The Daily World, a suspect armed with a handgun and wearing a ski mask, entered a Ville Platte, LA 中国体彩官方app on Sunday. The armed suspect confronted a male visitor to the 中国体彩官方app, held a gun to his head and demanded money. The residents of the 中国体彩官方app refused. That’s when the suspect tried to execute his hostage. Fortunately, for some reason, the gun did not fire and a fight ensued.

Topic: 4 rules of Gun Safety
Paul teaches gun safety. Everyone needs to know the rules of gun safety. Kids can’t follow the rules they don’t know. We can’t assume that young adults have a background in firearms safety.

  1. Treat a gun as if its loaded. (we’re forming good habits)
  2. Keep the weapon pointed in the safest direction (usually up or down)
  3. Finger on the trigger only when the sights are on the target.
  4. Know your target and what is behind it.

Rob: last Saturday night, pointed a gun at the clerk’s face and told him it was a robbery. Rather than giving in to the thugs, the clerk stayed calm and told the robbers that “mine is bigger than theirs.” That made them stop and think. The clerk believed their gun was a fake and he reached under the counter for his own gun. At that point, and they left rapidly in their white SUV.

Thought you might like this.

While no gun owner with any sense or desire to practice the REAL law of the land – the Constitution – would ever elect to live in the dump that is New York City, there are some who are stuck there and they’re either going to have to get out or get their guns out! That’s right, confiscation has begun!
New York City has begun sending out confiscation notices that support their local laws demanding that gun owners “immediately surrender” rifles and/or shotguns that hold five rounds or more of ammunition. (See the notice we’ve posted below.) In New York City it is illegal to possess a rifle or shotgun with the capacity to hold more than five rounds according to NYC Administrative Code 10-306 (b).
